I would love to see an HTC Sense ROM ported to the Infuse! Sadly I don't think I would be of much help on the developing side, I wouldn't mind being a tester if you ever happen to need one though.
Sweet, thanks. Once I have time, I'll start working on it. And as far as testing, you'll be the first one
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
If its no problem I'd like to join @some_shyguy with testing it
Sent from my Samsung Infuse running CM10.1
Yeah, that's fine. Although the ROM will work for the most part, please expect major problems with it, since it is a port of a port.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Thats not really a problem. If you don't mind my asking, what version of Android will it be running?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
IIRC, it will be running 2.3.6/2.3.7. I do believe that it uses CM7 as a base, so expect those issues as well as other
But we already got much faster smoother and more stable jellybean!
I don't see why would you want old sense UI
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
That's not the point. I just wanted to know if there was interest in it.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It's harder then you think....
First you got to find an HTC device with a similar (preferably same) chipset...which is rare since most htcs run qualacom hardware
A while back I did find a device with pretty much the same chipset that should be useable...gotta see if I still have its ruu (ruu is HTC official Rom release...actually stands for Rom update utility)
You then gotta extract the ruu contents (requires both windows and linux...)
Then you need to build the infuse kernel from source changing the bootclasspath in the init.rc and other stuff relating to sense instead of touchwiz
I'm not saying its impossible...and its still something I would like to do...but unfortuantly I just don't have the time to really do anything anymore due to school and work...and I recently got into league haha...so when I'm not working or at school I'm either with friends or playing league...but usually I'm at work or school. Oh yeah my infuse also got stolen...so no device to work with anymore (damn car fishers)
That's the basics...theres a few tutorials on how to port sense to no sense devices that can help you...just google how to port sense
Anyways, good luck...thus reply was mainly.to let you know what your in for and what kind of computer setup your gonna need (dual booting linux/windows)
Edit oh yeah...pretty sure the device I had found had an ics 4.0.4 stock Rom...at least for Iraq users...but English should still be an option in that Rom and if its not we can always add it in...anyways ill let you know later if I can find the ruu/device for you to work with
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Not to be mean, but I've got the hard part covered. There's a sense port for the captivate that rums on top of cm. I'm not saying that its going to be super simple, its also not going to be as hard as you described.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I think were talking about similar but different things...
I think your talking about taking an sense Rom that's already been ported to a non sense device and then porting that port to us
I'm talking about taking an official HTC sense release, extracting the contents for a flashable zip and porting that
Regardless either way requires kernel work as the init.rc needs to be edited -which is an easy task for those who can work with source
Anyways, goodluck the more options the better...there will definitely be people wanting this as its unique for the infuse
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, if I wouldn't have owned a captivate, I wouldn't know about all of this, and I wouldn't even attempt this. And yes, I'm talking about a port of a port. I'm by no means a dev, but I'm slowly learning, and I thank you for your help.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Since I've never seen a captivate port for us...here's a sense Rom for the galaxy s...galaxy s is the device we port most of our Roms for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593939
Idk how that compares stability wise as it seems to have some fairly big bugs (WiFi) anyways...that's just another option

Whats with all the urgency? Its not like porting is an overnight process. Porting typically takes days weeks and sometimes months.
It is not that easy. I believe Gingerbread (2.3) requires a new kernel. That we do not have, nor do we even have kernel sources for 2.2 yet. It might be possible to port PART of it, but there wouldn't be 4g, amongst other things. Also, this would likely be the GSM version, which leaves us without a proper modem.
So all in all.... Probably not going to happen.
I saw this posted earlier on androidcentral I believe and they were talking about a password on the .zip I think maybe it was the filename but google it for yourself lol

Apparently you really don't. CM6 is still ages from being ready for the Epic for example.
Not to mention we don't even know how to full extract or even flash these files properly.
Stop being so impatient about this. It will be no easy path, period. In all honesty, we may never get it working.
There might even be problems further down. We might not have a touchscreen driver, we WON'T have keyboard, hell the screen might not even turn on.
You seem to think that this is some easy task that will be accomplished, and it is not.
Simply put; Don't get your hopes up.

I was wondering if any of you guys were interested in full AOSP build or if CM7 was good enough for all you. If so, would you guys like optimized or pure vanilla, or both? I have some time soon, so if there's enough interest I'll compile a build for all y'all.
So who wants it?

AOSP=Android Open Source.
I had to look that up
That would be awesome! Either way would be good
Just how far from aosp does cm7 deviate?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Hellz yes please!
I'll give either one a go.
I, for one, would be interested in a AOSP rom for our Inspires. There are somethings in CM7 that I could careless for, although I found ways around them. ex: Removing ADW launcher and replacing with stock GB launcher.
Alright guys, I'll start work tomorrow and keep everyone posted through this thread, so check back

Exactly I love getting into new things, and AOSP was next on my list. Unfortunately, high school and a tattooing apprenticeship take up a lot of my time, so the kernel went unsupported for a bit. It's going on the backburner, but it'll be re-cooked after I finish porting AOSP. I'm shooting for a fully working MIUI kernel too now that we have gingerbread 1.3.18, but AOSP takes precedence. plus cattleprod should probably be able to beat me to it. so I should be able to get started tomorrow night, or Monday morning at latest.

Speed and battery tweaks
Touchwiz 5 launcher
Touchwiz theme
Touchwiz widgets
S-Voice app
Google Now
All sgs3 system media
Sgs3 wallpapers
Xloud and beats mod
And much more that I probably forgot about........
As it states I am just wanting to see who would be interested in it as I dont want it to be a wasted effort. Also you guys are more then welcone to let me know what else you would like included or changed. Thanks in advanced for the support and im looking forward to see your guys opinions.

I think the allshare app is just like wifi calling it is heavily dependant upon proprietary Samsung things that are built into the stock kernel and stock rom. Not saying its impossible but highly unlikely it will work on a custom rom that is not stock based.

If you're good with the Aroma installed, you can setup a customized install to choose what to install or not install. I like the ones that let you keep your kernel, modem, etc.
surely im not the only one thats thought of this? is there a way to merge hdmi functionality with a jelly bean kernel?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
IIRC, to "merge" functionality of HDMI, the drivers have to written up from from scratch. The only roms to have it, I may be wrong, were stock roms, or roms based on stock.
ok so this would takes tons of rom writing knowledge and time lol no wonder anyone would want to tackle it. except maybe a major corporation who would pay someone to do it. im geussing you couldnt take a stock rom and basically copy most of the code to another rom? i mean "copy " by writing similar code into the newer rom to get it to work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
really thats all that really keeps me from running all the jellybean flavors on my phone. if someone took the time lol they would probly already have came up with a newer version of rom by the time it got done. oh well too bad im not a coder lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
In theory, everything is possible. But honestly, for this to happen, we need Adam outler, entropy, and some others to get this done. You would have to get hardware info, and have tons of spare time to do it

I know you devs are working hard to complete the difficult part of porting the rom...
My question is, once it is ported, would it be easy to mod the rom or tweak it to make it smoother, or would it be too fragile? Could you just flash a mod which was made for a HTC One rom? or would each mod have to be changed to be compatible with the port?
Keep up the good work

It's actually depends if it's Rom dependent. But I would say yes. Unless it's not replacing any necessary libs
I would say yes since I saw a Samsung tablet port to note ii and they said don't use mods for note ii. Use tablet mods. So it should work. I honestly never use that much mods. So can't say exactly but it's most likely no.
