Root on Mac? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is there a way to root the Verizon GS3 on a Mac?

I can't say for sure about NATIVELY on Mac.
But i can say that i rooted successfully through Parallels for Mac. Smooth as butter.

Really? I'll definitely try that out! Thanks so much!

No problem. I'm on a late 2009 MBP OS X 10.7.4. I virtualized Windows 7.
I installed Parallels Tools before installing the Samsung Drivers. It might work if you do one before the other, but I'm just letting you know my setup to have it work best for you.
I would advise just don't let the computer sleep or hibernate during the flashing process, as I can't vouch for those actions.
I also did it with Parallels in Full Screen mode.
Good luck!

Thanks for the FYI! Would love to know if anyone has done it "natively"

You'll need to get android sdk for mac and use the equivilent of adb.exe.
I am in the same boat as you.... waiting... with a mac...
I've rooted it successfully using Parallels (win7) on Snow Leopard.

The main issue here is the lack of flashing tools for the mac. So far both Omnious and the Flash Tool are windows only.

I have.
If you have an Intel based mac, use Parallels (or VMware).
You might be able to get away with Qemu or bootcamping windows will work.
Just dont try to root from the desktop (virtual folder! the script wont work) but from root (C:\).
Also (maybe also on native windows) you have to connect the phone in 1 second or the script wil quit with error. Start the script, connect the phone, press any key to continue..
Btw, I did this on a normal laptop (Dell XPS m1530) running OSX SL 10.6.4 (99,9% native install), virtualizing Win7 to flash

One of those times I feel like saying "get a real computer" will fix your issue
First time i couldn't root my phone (also mac with parallels on).
I used the root files from the Bin4ry, Each time step 2 won't work.
Than reading the whole guide i saw Proyaz bunch of files with recently new firmware for x10i, an R2b020 (i think),
This time i had to try three times the root.
First time step 2 wouldnt' work, after retry of step 1 step worked. But then after step 2 i had no sudo rights?, again tried this time, in the meanwhile i was changing clothes for a party, Tada, after third time it worked flawless.
So yes, you can root from mac xD

Lost in root process...

I just bought a Charge today, came from the thunderbolt... I am completely lost with the root process and all the ed1, ee4, odin stuff here.
Is there a root process using a Mac?
I am on baseband ED1, is that good bad what?
My phone keeps telling me to update do I do it?
I hate touch wiz, I only like aosp so I want to obviously run gummy, there aren't any other options yet as I can see.

I have to post this guide so much haha, and yes you can update, assuming its EE4 and not some random new update I wasn't aware of, EE4 is what all the themes and ROMs and such are built on, plus the update itself is incredible with the browser fix and 4G fix and other awesome fixes
Thank you! I didn't know that guide would work for mac. I will try it now...
It works for mac it's just the drivers he links you too are for windows, just find the mac Droid Charge drivers and you're good

[Q] Mac Rooting Method

Is there a current rooting method for Mac OS?
Currently running 3.1 on WW.
If no one has a method yet, and you don't want to wait, I would suggest using a friends or relatives PC.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
If you are on 3.0, I think you can root via GingerbreakBB, but it would be a manual procedure. Maybe... or maybe it's the wine talking.

I really don't know Mac OS, I saw a Mac only in picture but...
i think the intel based macintosh are able to boot from a linux live-cd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
As stated here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
you have to press "c" during startup to boot from cd.
If you try this and if it works, can you please report back?

If that doesn't work, then I think you can get something called refit or rEFIt, but not r3fIt
You can burn it to a CD/USB and it will allow you to dual boot. It does not require writing anything to the drive.

Is this suppose to be a troll or something, because the link you provided leads me to a site to download jzip, a program that seems to be the same thing as winrar...

If something doesn't make sense to you that's doesn't mean the idea is wrong.
You are not installing driver TO A tablet. You are installing drivers to a Windows for the Windows to be able communicate with the device in ADB mode.
Win XP is a no-go. The drivers I provided in my link work with your tablet 100% when installed in Windows 7 32/64.
This is a proven fact.
So try them on a Win7 computer
Got it. I guess I'll be visiting my friends house soon I really hope the drivers work, I'll report back as soon as I can. Thanks.

Sorry to bother again, but can't seem to find anyone in town (It's summer vacation where I'm at right now). Would it work if I installed the drivers using a windows 7 virtual machine? And are there really no drivers that would be compatible with win XP?
ur answer is simple

[Q] OPO Root problem. Device not found

Hello everyone,
I've been a member since the I had my Sony Xperia X10 and Samsung Galaxy S3 and both phones were rooted using xda forums. I greatly appreciate this community and should contribute more but I'm not that advanced as most users here. I do have a little some experience tinkering around with the computer but I'm mainly a hardware type of guy and know only a little on software.
But here is my problem. I tried a few methods of trying to root my One Plus One and had little success. I came to a conclusion that it's a driver issue. When i use the command adb devices, it wouldnt show any devices. When I look in the device manager with my OPO plugged in, the drivers are missing. I tried to manually download android sdk and install from there but still no luck. I tried using the GUI toolboxes which has the adb and drivers to install. But still came out with no luck.
Can anyone assist me with my situation? When I turn on Developer Options and checked Android Debugging and USB Debugging Notify, I would not get the message to confirm and give access to the computer. I can open all folders in Windows 7 of my OPO and I use the original data cable supplied with my phone.
Thanks in advance!
Try manually installing the correct driver in device manager. Chances are that Windows is picking a matching but incompatible driver from your old device or tries to be smart.
