[Q] Mac Rooting Method - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a current rooting method for Mac OS?
Currently running 3.1 on WW.

If no one has a method yet, and you don't want to wait, I would suggest using a friends or relatives PC.

If you are on 3.0, I think you can root via GingerbreakBB, but it would be a manual procedure. Maybe... or maybe it's the wine talking.

I really don't know Mac OS, I saw a Mac only in picture but...
i think the intel based macintosh are able to boot from a linux live-cd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
As stated here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
you have to press "c" during startup to boot from cd.
If you try this and if it works, can you please report back?

If that doesn't work, then I think you can get something called refit or rEFIt, but not r3fIt
You can burn it to a CD/USB and it will allow you to dual boot. It does not require writing anything to the drive.

You'll need to get android sdk for mac and use the equivilent of adb.exe.
I am in the same boat as you.... waiting... with a mac...
I've rooted it successfully using Parallels (win7) on Snow Leopard.

The main issue here is the lack of flashing tools for the mac. So far both Omnious and the Flash Tool are windows only.

I have.
If you have an Intel based mac, use Parallels (or VMware).
You might be able to get away with Qemu or bootcamping windows will work.
Just dont try to root from the desktop (virtual folder! the script wont work) but from root (C:\).
Also (maybe also on native windows) you have to connect the phone in 1 second or the script wil quit with error. Start the script, connect the phone, press any key to continue..
Btw, I did this on a normal laptop (Dell XPS m1530) running OSX SL 10.6.4 (99,9% native install), virtualizing Win7 to flash

One of those times I feel like saying "get a real computer" will fix your issue
First time i couldn't root my phone (also mac with parallels on).
I used the root files from the Bin4ry, Each time step 2 won't work.
Than reading the whole guide i saw Proyaz bunch of files with recently new firmware for x10i, an R2b020 (i think),
This time i had to try three times the root.
First time step 2 wouldnt' work, after retry of step 1 step worked. But then after step 2 i had no sudo rights?, again tried this time, in the meanwhile i was changing clothes for a party, Tada, after third time it worked flawless.
So yes, you can root from mac xD

SBF without RSDLite?

Is there any way to SBF without using RSDLite? I have a Mac and don't have access to Windows at all, and won't for months.
The Linux way should also work with Mac OS X.

SuperCID on mac os ?

Hi everybody,
As you know, superCID is required to have InsertCoin 4.0.7, and maybe other ROM's which use android 4.0.3.
But I just can't use bootcamp with mac to write supercid, so i'm wondering how can I do that on my mac ??
I hope someone has a solution..

Goto the android developers site. There are instructions for mac.
I would post a link but I'm not near a computer.
Good luck.

ADB works fine on a Mac. There is a version for Mac, and the instructions are fairly clear.
If you find ADB intimidating, search for "Fastboot Commander" (may be one word). It's a GUI that runs in Linux shell on a Mac and may be easier to understand.
I would recommend learning ADB if you're going to be fooling around with Android.
I didn't find adb on developer's site, but I find this : http://esausilva.com/2010/10/02/how-to-set-up-adb-android-debug-bridge-in-mac-osx/
So I can obtain the serial of my device thanks to adb, but what should I do to superCID my phone ?
Maybe head to the root thread for instructions?

Try this out and follow the instructions exactly as they are given. Quite a few have had success already with it.

You did that via Linux right? And did you use a class 10 microsd card with the same GB size as your phone? It took some people multiple tries to get it to work. Maybe you can ask or pm nconfer13, Cnexus, or edfunkycold and see what they say.
nc did it with windows 8.

It is meant to work on Linux which you can dual boot to your computer.
im not to fimiliar with linux is there a trusted site for me to get it?
so do i just dual boot and write the disk image again? I wasnt able to find where he was talking about linux and how to use it. Can you direct me to the page number?
According to @Sandman-007 over in this thread, Ubuntu is popular. The link above is actually another thread where a user is in the same situation as you.
Edit: this is the Sprint GSIII thread that has additional information about this unbrick method. There's not a more clearly defined list of directions anywhere else.
I will also add the link to Ubuntu OS and here it is: Ubuntu .
So essentially the only difference is im using linux to write the debrick image to the sd card where as the other method was to use windows32 to write the image onto the sd?

From what little I understand of it, the entire process needs to be done via Linux. I couldn't begin to explain why you need Linux since there's only the info from both threads to go on. However, following all steps through Linux works.

Well Android is technically a mobile version of Linux and the process uses the terminal app built in all Linux OS which the terminal app for Android is emulating.

I guess what looks weird to me is that it just looks like you're running ADB commands. It's all good that it works on Linux, its just that there's little documentation already so from outside looking in, I can't see what is Linux specific.
God damnn it just my luck. When ever i put my sd card into my adpater unbuntu goes into a black screen saying, could not write bytes: broken pipe. Checking battery state and i cant do anything. The sd card is completely nothing on it.
okay so i got over that by fixing the timing. Anywho in step one after doing the sudo thing i dont see my sd with a letter next to it. only numbers such as sdc1 and so on...

Hard Bricked after customization..

I bricked my Photon Q while customizing with font apks and soft key customization.. I cannot access recovery, as it just attempts to normally boot. When it normally boots, it gets to the final frame in the boot animation and does not do anything else. I do not have boot loader unlocked and this is a last resort for me. :crying:
I will answer any necessary questions to getting my phone unbricked!
Thanks!

I have not, trying to boot in any mode except Fastboot will go through the normal boot, also I am running a Linux OS and do not know if I can run RSDLite through Wine or not.

Do NOT run RSDLite thru Wine (or a VM for that matter).
Borrow a Windows machine if you have to.
RSDlite runs with no problems on VirtualBox (closed source binary version - with USB pass through) running XP. At least it worked well with Motorola Droid 2.
[edit]
I know flashing bootloader may be more risky, but for many (countless) times I flashed Droid 2 and 3 under linux running a VirtualBox VM with XP installed, and never had any problems. I haven't done it with PQ, since I had no need to flash it.

I'm not saying that it is impossible - certainly with USB passthru it *should* work.
But why risk it? I can't recommend using that method - again, may work... but may turn your device into a permanent paperweight if something flakes during the flashing process.

I will borrow a Windows machine and try RSDLite, I will post results in a day or two..
I'm still wondering why I was bricked by installing simple customization applications. Maybe it was just a coincidence though.
