TF300 Bricked - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys just rooted my TF300 last week switched throug 3 custom roms and then went back to stock firmware....did a re root after stock install.
worked fine for a month but suddenly today screen just went black and refuses to display anythin. Ican tell that the screen is on (backlight glow visible) but it wont display anything. When i reeboot via power button screen works fine for 20 seconds till the asus logo and then degrades slowly to complete black. Warranty is void due to unlocked bootloader. plz help!!:crying:

Does the screen look ok when you boot into recovery? If it does try reflashing the rom, if not it might be a hardware issue.

what firmware on you on? if your on 30 flash back to 29 then see if it works

screen has deteriorated further refuses to show the boot logo also tablet seems to be working fine tho can hear it getting emails (makes the notificatioin noise) so looks like a hardware issus sending it to the local Asus service centre any idea hw much a screen replacement will cost ?

Don't quote me on this, but I recall someone saying that their screen had cracked and had to get the screen replaced, and the cost would have just about as much as a new tablet, since the glass/IPS screen is all one unit.
I recall reading that, but can't find it now, so I may be thinking of something else.

Ok guys the tab came back on by itself I just left it alone for the night and it's fine today *fingers crossed* hope it does not act up again. Thank you guys for ur replies.

Hmmm... I am going through a similar problem... I've noticed that when this unresponsiveness occurs and I keep my phone for charging the touch becomes normal again. But as soon as I disconnect the problem comes back.
I had this issue before too. When I was on TheFrankestains miui v10.5... And now I am on RemICS v2.
I'll like to mention here that on v1 of RemICS I didn't face this issue. In v2 the developer did mention a change in the kernel.
Also another er thing with the unresponsiveness the bln is acting weird too. Now I don't know what to conclude from all this.
And ya when it had occurred before I did take it to the customer service. And all they did was remove my screen guard and reflash the stock. :what:
The problem disappeared that time but it has resurfaced again. :sly:

Even I'm facing this issue and thats the exact reason i'm not going to service center. I doubt its a H/W issue cause the screen does work! If it had been a H/W problem then the shouldnt have been any touch response!
Its might be similar to backlight issue but too bad we're facing it on stock aswell.
I had posted a logcat in the dev ICS thread but no response from anyone.
If there are more people facing this issue then please come forward.
I got only one phone. . And i cant use it.

I'm on ICS Alpha V6 . I get this problem occasionally.
Problem occurs when i get a call and the touch becomes unresponsive. Not all the times but sometime. If i lock the screen and unlock it becomes proper. Sometimes it takes 2-3 locks and unlocks. Weird. Never had this problem in stock before .
Everytime this problem starts after a call. Happens on stock as well as custom Roms. Can't figure out if it's software or hardware problem. But the touch becomes normal when the phone's kept on charging.
Anyways going back to the customer service tomorrow. Will tell them to change the touch panel.

Probably Hardware, i am using RemICS v2 and NOT experiencing this issue on both my device and my sister's device (tried the call thing too)
I advise you guys to go to the service center (without a screen protector) and with the stock rom (so they don't have to flash anything) so they see it live, and hence there's no point of flashing stock again (over stock lulz) they'll probably change the screen for you.
i have the same problem now.. i dunno if i will ever get this phone fixed. my warranty's expired for a month.

Same problem for everyone...
is it more likely to be a hardware issue??
It is a Hardware issue.
I gave my phone to the Service Centre yesterday. I called them today to check on the status. They said it's a hardware issue so they'll give it tomorrow. Let's hope for the best...
BTW I will get an extended warranty on the replaced part, won't I?

And the problem is back. Not entirely though.
After deep sleep if I unlock the phone, the touchscreen doesn't work. I have to lock and unlock to get it working.
After unlocking, once the display goes off, the menu and back keys stop working. Have to lock unlock again.
Had flashed cm9 stock kernel yesterday morning since gps isn't working for me in UCv15. Didn't face any problem yesterday after flashing stock kernel.

<sigh> Tf700 dead in less than 45 days

Of course, its unlocked, so I guess I am just SOL??? What BS... I was just using Tapatalk and noticed some graphical glitches (mouse cursor turned into a 'block', etc), so I decided to reboot - long story short, it now locks up in random places while booting. Sometimes, if I hold the tablet upside down (glass facing ground), I can get it to boot, but then it'll lock up either at the lock screen or shortly thereafter...
I've tried everything - I did manage to get back to stock (firmware updates and recovery seem to work fine), but still cannot actually use the device.
Since it seems to matter how the device is physically held, I'm very sure that its a hardware issue - is there *any* way that Asus will repair under warranty even though Its unlocked? The problem is obviously not related to the unlocked boot loader - just wondering if *anyone* had Asus honor the warranty if unlocked?
Not very happy...

I got my unlocked Prime serviced on the warranty. It had a broken HDMI port. They serviced it for free. The only thing I had to pay for was shipping it to them. Just play dumb when you phone them up. Good luck!

If you can't come up with a better solution, grab a square trade warranty. I bought mine from them when it was about 60 days old. A few months later i had a accident with it on my stairs. It too, was unlocked.
edit... don't ever pay full price for a square trade warranty. there are always 30% off coupon codes floating about.

I'm so sorry!!! Any insights on what might have caused it?
You said you saw some screen artifacts. Were you running an overclocked kernel? May have fried something.
Nope - no over clocked kernel (does one even exist?)... No idea what caused it - I've seen those artifacts before though and reboot always seemed to fix it. My guess is that it was just slowly dying...
I'm going to buy another one today and explore my options for this broken one (square trade is sounding like an idea though!)... I need my tf700!!!

I flipped mine to reboot :
my tablet is not unlocked or rooted ---- twice when it froze up I was unable to reboot -- nothing --- I was freaking out big time --- first time it happened I just gave it a flip - glass down -- and flipped back up (just out of frustration) --- and lo and behold -- it rebooted !!! and worked fine .....
at first I thought it was just a coincidence that flipping worked, but ,
2nd time it happened I deliberately gave it a little flip (just a gentle one -- no shaking it like an etcha-sketch !! ) -- glass down - back up ---- rebooted --- worked fine........and has ever since......fingers crossed..........and I am ohhhh so gentle with it now too ........
When I rang them up about the screen flex which also has nothing to do with an unlocked bootloader they said it came up in their system as unlocked and they couldn't actually book it in for a warranty claim.

Did your device get jarred or any kind of impact that may have caused loose connections internally? If nothing else can be done. Last resort is to open it up and check for any signs that can be the cause of your troubles.

There is NO way to LOCK your device by yourself.

Just asking if there is a way (or if somebody is working on another way) to unlock it with another tool, like on other devices.
It's stories like this that makes me glad I sprung for the 3 year extended warranty from squaretrade. Hope Asus helps you out OP.
Good luck, jtrosky -- ASUS might help you out on this one, and I hope they do. Fingers crossed, and keep your spirits up.
Thanks for all of the "good luck" posts - I appreciate it!
For now, I bought another one and will weigh my options on what to do with the bad one...
By the way, the new one is a C7 and has the exact same amount of light bleed in the exact same spots (mainly, above the dock locking switch), but since you can only see it at boot-up, I have no problem with that. Everything else on this one seems to work fine though.
Leaving this one stock and unlocked for a while, at least until I get a SquareTrade warranty or something!

Ugh... While using Tapatalk on my new replacement TF700 this morning, I noticed that there was a "dim" spot (about an inch long) on the left hand side of the screen (in landscape mode). Upon looking a little closer (from an angle), I can see what appears to be a bad "section" of the backlight which just isn't lighting up - there are actually two of these "defects" on the left side, but the other one isn't at bad. Before I go to exchange it, can someone please check their TF700 and see if they have a similar issue? I just want to make sure that it's just not the was it's supposed to be, although I certainly never noticed it on my original TF700 (which is not with me, so I can't check to see if that one has the same issue or not).
It's just driving me crazy when using an app with a white background -it's very noticeable...
Thanks for any help anyone can offer! I'm really starting to wonder who the hell (if anyone) tests these damn devices!!

I know this is kind of stupid, but just be sure that it's not fingerprints. They showup as dark areas against a white screen. I'm sure that that you have already eliminated that as a possibility, but just in case...
Man, that's bad luck!

Hi,
I get the same problem with my TF700T. The screen wont respond to touch, sometimes I have to reboot the tablet twice for it to work properly. But after awhile it will go back to the same thing ...not responding to touch properly.
I have done a hard reset but is still giving me the same problem. Is there anything I can do?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Send it back to Asus you have a hard ware issue.

If it is still under warranty, I would send it in for servicing. If there is no physical to the screen, we can certainly take care of it for you. Not 100% sure, but it sounds like the digitizer when out.

[Q] Touchscreen problem

Hi everyone! I have been having a problem with my tf700. It randomly registers touches in the middle part of the right end of the screen. Sometimes it registers one continuous touch, a lot of small touches, or sometimes it works fine. I am currently unlocked and running CromiX 4.4 but this problem started like two months ago after i unlocked the device. The "phantom touches" are annoying to the point of making the device unusable randomly as they mess with whatever i am doing with the tablet. If i put it to sleep and then wake it up the problem desapears for a short while (or for a random interval for that matter).
I wanted to know if there is a way to disable just one section of the touch screen, so these touches dont affect me. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
Try and search the forum. One other guy recently mentioned this issue and had to send it back to ASUS. must be a hardware defect
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
Thanks, yeah it seems to be a hardware problem. I didn't want to get to ASUS because they will probably charge me a full new touchscreen or something like that, so i thought that maybe there was a way via software to disable just the little section that gives problem in the screen.
Sound like an issue that needs fixing rather than a work around if you haven't dropped it I think it would come up as a defect. So maybe wouldnt need to pay

I will take it to ASUS then. I have not dropped it but my warranty was voided when i unlocked it, so i will have to pay. I live in russia right now, but bought the tablet in the states, hope that is not a problem. Thanks for you help.
Just to be sure, I'd try and reflash an old version of CROMI (3.4.7) -- if the problem goes away, it is a funky incompatibility. If not, you have a hardware issue, but that should fall under warranty.

[Q] Tab is running - display stays dark

Hey. hope someone has a good idea:
tablet had a display crack
was unlocked
i let it repair with rma
they wanted to change the motherboard. i said no motherboard is not brocken, just unlocked
they repaired the crack
i got tablet back
now i can start the device. but nothing is shown on the display. it stays dark (with white background light).
But tablet is running. i can hear starting sound and if i connect tablet to PC i can access all files on the device like normal.
but still nothing is shown on the display. not even starting logo, recovery screen... nothing.
any idea?
Customer care says: yeah you have to replace the motherboard, because its broken.... but it is not broken. it works fine. it just seams that the connecten between display and motherboard is not working correctly.. any idea? any help?
asus wants over 250€ for the motherboard!
i feel tricked
Well the motherboard is fine if the tablets does boot and work but it might be that the connaction to screen and the motherboard isnt working right .
And if the screen worked befor you sent it they should have fix it themselves because the problem happend when they had the tablet.
Btw. I am new here so i might be wrong
But i do know a few thing and it doesn't look like it should happend if tge glass itself was the only thing broken.

i think they try to make money and say "MB is unlocked = brocken = need new one" $$

Once you have unlocked you cant do anything because it voids the warenty
