If I press volume up, I get emergency mode. If I press volume down, it reboots back into the crash screen. I've searched for info on pmapp.c and can't find much besides the fact it's common to a whole bunch of phones, making me think it's something to do with the chipset.
Any help?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that the phone will boot into fastboot mode, but only stays in fastboot mode for about 10 seconds. Afterwards, the screen turns white scattered with multicolored pixels (sort of like a camera's high ISO noise, if you know what I'm talking about) and then the screen flashes on and off every few seconds.

samsung gt-8010 crashed - maybe during auto update?!

Hi. Yesterday I left my tablet in the kitchen - roughly 50% battery, and when I went to pick up in the evening - I had not expected it to be empty, but things happen. So, I put it on the charger and rather than seeing the "charging" icon, I got a snow/grey screen.
After waiting 15 minutes for any change I googled, found, and tried holding the poweroff button for 30 seconds - screen flashed off/on but no change in the "snow". Then tried holding off+left side of volume key in and saw the android icon (1 sec), but then got half snow, half android - and what looked like "Do not ... something". Again, after waitiong a bit, repeated steps and now (and for over 15 hours) all I see is:
Upper left corner, in red
ODIN MODE
Directly under this in white text
PRODUCT NAME: GT-N8010
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
And the middle is just the Android ICON, with message:
"Downloading..."
"Do not turn off target!!"
I suspect the batter ran down - so it "turned off" and is stuck somewhere. How do I get it to restart?
Many thanks for any suggestions!
Michael
I seem to have the same condition as described here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2771124 - except I was not trying to flash my system. This all happened automatically.
I have also tried the hard-reset (power + right-volume) - but that just gives the snow, or zebra-snow (half the previous screen, half snow).
Saddened me.
12 hours later: edit added...
I guess this is old news to all of you - but many links to pit files - whatever they may be are no longer active - and I still have no clue what that would add to help me clear my issue.
Suggestions?

empty message box appear every 30 sec

Hi,
I have a very strange behaviour happened to my nexus 5 after upgrade to android 6.
When my phone is unlocked and screen on, every around 30 sec my phone will show an empty message box like the image 1 below
hxxp://postimg.org/image/c2c3idkeh/
hxxp://s28.postimg.org/c2c3idkeh/Screenshot_20151203_002123.jpg
it will cause the screen which already at dim stage (normal dim screen before screen turn off) to turn back on again (like the screen has received touch input) thus the screen will not turn off if i don't intentionally press power button to turn off screen.
I find that the message box is similar like in the image 2 below
hxxp://postimg.org/image/5hbl93gh7/
hxxp://s17.postimg.org/5hbl93gh7/Screenshot_20151203_002206.jpg
It's very annoying because the empty message box keep showing whenever i use my phone. And if i forget to press power button to turn off the screen, the screen will stays on cause battery drained very fast. I still can use my phone normally tough
it happen both on stock ROM and cyanogenmod ROM (I'm using "12.0-20150202-NIGHTLY-hammerhead") but it doesn't happen when the phone on recovery mode.
My current phone setup :
Nexus 5
ROM : Cyanogenmode 12.0-20150202-NIGHTLY-hammerhead
Recovery : twrp-2.8.7.1
Anybody know what cause the behaviour and how to fix it?
appreciate all the help
I can't post link yet so I have to change the link for http to hxxp

1st Gen Moto G - I can't get past the Fastboot menu

Hi folks.,
Daughter has a Moto G. It constantly powers on - goes to the "M" boot screen for a few moments then a sort-of black screen, although the screen is actually on - it is just displaying black pixels. It just stays there.
With a couple of long presses of the power button I can get it to turn off and then, if I'm quick, I can do the power/vol down combo to get into Fastboot menu.
HOWEVER - whatever option I choose Factory/Recovery whatever (other than the Barcodes - which shows the Barcodes) it just goes straight to the "M" screen for a few seconds and then the sort-of black screen again.
It's been a long time since I fiddled with Android stuff (I'm Windows Phone) so any help and guidance for an old idiot like me would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Same issue here
Hi, I'm having the same issue here.
Do you have an idea of what could have caused it? I mean, how did it start?
Do you ever get to see the battery charging icon when you plug it?
I thought it was a battery related issue at first, but guess it's not. Gonna try to install the firmware again to see if that helps.
I've noticed it shows the cmd getvar.all when I plug it to the laptop while on fastboot mode.
Does it say the fastboot reason?
Does your computer recognize it when you plug it?

Unmodded Moto G5+ failed to validate boot image, suggesting Software Repair Assistant

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the n00b question if this is something that's already been asked & answered somewhere, but I've spent hours trawling the forums, & the web at large, & I'm no closer to solving this issue, & I'm at wit's end - I hope someone will be kind enough to point me in the direction of a fix for this sudden issue.
Yesterday evening, my unmodded Moto G5+ XT1685 (Potter) was attached to my battery pack, as is often the case, just sitting on the table & when I looked down at the screen, I noticed an unfamiliar message was showing:
Bootloader logs
Start Up Failed:
Use the Software Repair Assistant on computer
to repair your device.
Connect your device to your computer to get
the Software Repair Assistant.
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
failed to validate boot image
ERROR: Failed to pass validation, backup to fastboot
Fastboot Reason: Fall-through from charger boot mode
USB connected
I have no idea what's gone wrong, but I've tried a number of things to fix it, & haven't made any progress. I've downloaded the drivers from a post I found on here, & have tried the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant, Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant, & Motorola Device Manager, none of which are able to recognise the device because it's not booting into fastboot, I believe. The volume rocker allows me to scroll through a number of different options: 'Switch Tools mode' (where I can toggle 'Tools Mode Config' from ENABLED to DISABLED), 'Qcom', 'BP Tools', 'Barcodes', 'Factory', 'Power off', 'Recovery mode', 'Restart bootloader', & 'Start'. None of them seem to do much, & I just keep ending up at the same screen if/when the device powers up again. I've held the power & volume down buttons for ages, as someone suggested somewhere, but apart from the LED flashing a few times, nothing seemed to happen. I've removed the micro SD & put it back in, but that didn't make any difference. When I select to power it off, it doesn't turn back on when I press the power button, however it'll power back on soon thereafter if connected to a charger or my computer. It's got me flummoxed!
So, any advice? Is it borked? What should I try next? I'd really appreciate your learned opinions.
Cheers!

Korean V500N screen won't turn on

It is the second time this happened. Last time it fixed itself after half an hour.
The screen is always pitch black and the device stays warm.
Most of the time it is boot looping with a black screen, the 5G led on the back keeps blinking in different colours. When connected to a PC, in Device Manager I can see two "LG-V500N", then it disappears after a minute, and comes back, repeat.
Sometimes the device boots and stay booted with a black screen, I can tell the device is on because it is listed in "adb devices". Unfortunately I don't have any authorized device to connect to it via adb.
I am not sure what I can try, I have pressed and hold power + vol down many times but the screen remains black.
I also have trouble switching off the device, it seems to either stay on or boot loop.
After letting it rest for a few hours, switching it on shows this screen, with a white/gray line at the top of the screen, and after 5 seconds it switches itself off again.

Get into download mode by powering off the phone and pressing volume up while having it plugged into a PC. Then find a guide to flash a kdz lgup. You will probably lose data or have already lost it

It seems the phone will not stay in download mode for more than 5 seconds, it powers off after showing the big download mode screen for 5 seconds.
I will try to leave my phone on the charger for some time and then try again.

I managed to get the device to enter and stay in download mode, however the screen stays pitch black and I am not sure if I should continue flashing.
Would you go ahead and flash it if you were me?
The device is currently on Pie, I will probably try flashing a Pie KDZ first, before an Android 10 KDZ.
Sometimes there is a brief moment where the screen comes on, that's when the LG V50 logo shows before entering download mode.
Did an UPGRADE with V500N11r_00_KT_KR_OP_1017.kdz, which should be the same firmware that the device is already on, it flashed successfully, didn't seem to help, screen remains pitch black.
Did a REFURBISH with the same kdz, didn't seem to help either.
The phone seems to continue to boot loop after the REFURBISH flash. When connected to PC, LG-V500N shows up and then disappears repeatedly. Sometimes I can hear a sound effect being played from the phone, sounds like it has booted and the sound probably came from the initial setup screen.
Seems the phone has stopped boot looping, it is on the initial setup screen. The screen remains pitch black but it responds to touch.
Not sure where I can go from here.
Edited:
The screen has come on briefly once for a few seconds, it is on the initial setup screen. I only had time to switch the language to English, then the screen went black and the device seem to have crashed (no longer makes sound or vibrate as I randomly tap on the screen)

I think it's some faulty hardware at this point. You've tried everything possible as of now.

Hi! I bought an LG V50 and exactly the same things you described happens to me, the screen starts, it shows the logo, but then it goes completely black, but phone starts, sounds are heard and the touch screen work. But not image, screen is black. Could you find out what hardware defect it is? It's the display module, or will it be the motherboard? Thanks
Nope, I have sold the phone as parts.
