Sorry your research failed you.

Doesnt the D3 only have the standard WW 3G Freqs, i.e. Band I. It'll be 2G on T-Mobile.

You tried the all in one toolkit?
Or the new virtuous Rom ?
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
I thought getting S-Off would be hard with the new bootloader. All you really need is some free time (Hour at the longest), and some Tigers Blood (Keeping the SWAG up).
Carrier Unlock can be done for free, on a stock rom. A simple terminal command, and BAMN! Unlocked.
Rooting is so simple, ADB and 10 minutes.
Moto devices tend to not have a recovery image. Bootstrap is all you have. Going from an HTC device to Moto is a hard thing to do. When you root/unlock the device, alot of issues arise. Plus the D3 has no devs, only Hascode. You'll have 1, 2 good roms. Atleast here you have some more choice. Motorolla devices suck. I've worked with phones a better part of my life, and know many in the game. I'm best friends with a Motorolla phone tester. He's using the new Quad-Core Moto phone (Spyder 2X), pure Jellybean on it. It sucks ass, slower than slow. Our phone murders it in speed. I've never meet a happy moto owner. In the area i live in, having some best friends whos parents work for Moto is normal. Even there parent, engineers for the phones......say there P.O.S.

So quick and easy that months later I forgot that I did it already.
Also, I used the Droid 3 and Droid 4 at work and they suck. Build quality seems cheap, keyboards are too clicky, and phones are enourmous in size.

thank you sir you are a scholar
I'd hate for you to leave the doubleshot scene because you couldn't get the phone rooted. Its a great phone with great devs. Its a touch confusing, this one, because the firmware rev changed the process, and it may not be immediately apparent which of the instructions you need.
These are the steps I took three weeks ago to get a new-in-the-box 1.63 phone from its original condition to cm9. I ended up using hassoon's toolkit but not his gui. But the download contains adb, fastboot, a working recovery, and such dlls as are required. Used htc unlocker procedure, and I'm still s-on and it hasn't been an issue (except that I have to have my laptop to flash new roms.) So you can put the wire down.
Fetch hassoons toolkit. Fetch the HTC sync installer. I presume you've done all this, but I'm putting it down for the sake of completion. Download cm9 alpha6 to your phone's sdcard. Also, open the cm9 zip and copy the included boot.img to your computer. Probably should put it in the directory created by hassoon's, right next to fastboot.
Run the htc sync installer as far as installing the usb drivers. Cancel out before installing sync.
Extract hassoons toolkit somewhere handy.
Go to HTC's site and walk through the unlocker process. Use the binary adb in hassoon to perform the instructions therein.
Now you have hboot 1.63, unlocked, s-on.
Use fastboot in hassoon's kit to flash cwm. Don't forget to clear data and cache. I usually go ahead and wipe system and dalvik cache.
Boot into cwm. Install rom. Power down, then power up to hboot. Switch to fastboot mode.
Flash boot.img using fastboot.
Reboot.
Profit.
My phone is always with me. I'll pay attention to yer thread if you have more questions. Call it my contribution. Ftw.

why wouldn't you just root your evo? 2.3 has been out for a while, I'm using it on my sprint hero.. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for sprint to update to 2.3
I might be kicking a dead horse but I don't really like the design of the Echo; the idea is cool but the actual functionality might be lacking; for me anyway.
Having two screens will have a bigger rain on the battery and reviews have stated that the phone slows down a bit when simultaneously using different applications.

See I would root my evo but there is just so much work involved in acctualy getting to the point of flashing rom's and I don't know much about what I would have to do inorder to do it. Also I've only had it since December 1st and don't want to risk bricking it. Also from what I heard the GB roms are pretty unstable...

It's almost impossible to brick an Evo, and I mean that. All you do to root is go to Unrevoked.com and download the application and run it with your phone connected. It's not hard at all. Flashing a ROM is as easy as downloading a ZIP file and putting it on your memory card, and then going into the recovery menu and choosing it. There's even protection built in that checks the integrity of the ZIP before flashing it, so if there's something wrong with it, it won't flash.
Anyways, when your run Unrevoked, it will root your phone and add a custom recovery image, but it won't flash a different ROM, so you have nothing to worry about.
unrevoked took 10 min on my phone, been flashing zips since jan 1
I got my Evo on September 1st, which I think was before Unrevoked was released (or at least before I knew about it). I did it the hard way. But after going through a bunch of replacement Evos, I've been using Unrevoked. I love how you can flash any recovery image you want with it.
Ok ill give it a shot but what do you guys recommend? Unrevoked forever or unrevoked 3? I don't know the difference... also how do you get clockwork recovery or whatever? Or is it not needed. Any help is very much appreciated.

Just download Unrevoked. Unrevoked Forever is included and is just the portion that sets your bootloader to S-OFF (allows you to flash other ROMS). It's completely reversible in case you need to take your phone in for repair or exchange. I'm saying this from experience.
After Unrevoked, download ROM Manger from the Market and go to town.

If your not to sure what you should or shouldn't delete, then the best thing for you would be to just flash a stock rooted rom. Like clearD, tcp, or dilligaf.
Titanium backup is the right way. Why don't you try twopumpchump optimized stock Rom in the development section. We're very helpful over there and will walk you through it. You can flash a ROM that already has the bloat removed.

As long as you have them saved on your sim no. Personal data yes. Apps not if you back them up. Make a nandroid back up before flashing. All you have to do is download the rom, place it on your sd card. Then boot into recovery install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, pick the rom select yes. You just flashed a rom.. As far as I know no one has completely bricked their inspire, even the people who have had corrupted boot loaders have been able to recover.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to sit down at my desktop and try and mess around with it, college has taken up a lot of my time. I will say its a lot more complex then people think it is. It makes me really appreciate the people who bake roms and make themes.
I will probably sit down this weekend try tweeking a few things, and hopefully get it to work with out boot looping. Makes me wish some one lived around here that could teach me a few things I am a visual learner. I will get one working though .

You only need the first page - the rest is just random posts.
Google 'flash a custom ROM on Android' to get more info on the actual flashing procedure but I wouldn't do ANYTHING until you understand what it is you're doing
If you need to ask if you need to flash a certain rom then the answer is NO, you do not need to flash.
There's a learning curve on how to do it, and do it correctly, learning how to go back to stock, and also upkeep of the rom (flashing everytime it's updated)
What's wrong with your phone right now that you want to put a ROM?
Don't feel like you need to put a ROM just because other people are doing it.
Your rooted and S-off already right?
I flashed my tmobile to revolution hd the first day I got it. This site is really helpful with all its guides. I did the whole thing in less then 24 hours and before this phone I knew next to nothing about android an s-off etc. If you read the guides properly I dont think its possible for you to screw up.
P.S I use mine in Canada with mobilicity, but I am guessing u r with tmobile.
Have to ask, but why did you root your phone? Did you actually have a reason to or did you do cause everyone else did and it 'looked cool'?
I'm not having a go but rooting actually isn't needed. The Sensation out the box is a great handset. The ONLY reason I did was to remove the bloat I don't use (including most of HTC's widgets). If HTC were to release a phone that allowed this without root I'd have no reason to - even if I could

Im not going to lie but i did it cause everyone else was doing it and seemed like the thing to do... Since doing that I have actually learned a lot... Its the greatest thing when you can take a phone and COMPLETELY make it your own from the rom that you have on there to the splash screen and the boot and down animation... Knowing its there because thats what YOU want there not what HTC or your carrier wants there is the greatest gift... Its YOURS.
See, there you go. Not a good example for a 'should I root' question
Fair enough, you've learnt now but you'd look like a bit of a tit if you'd bricked your phone without knowing how to reverse it.
Word to the OP - READ EVERYTHING
Do not attempt to do anything until you know what you're doing. OK, there are some things you can only learn having done a few things but for the most part build up your confidence by understanding everything the guide(s) tell you
I agree with mr. burglar I did it because of all the modification options. I just like things different. If I could change the rom in my toaster I would.
Well I have had a fair amount of experience jailbreaking iphones... I know that its nothing like rooting a droid... I did not root blindly either... I came about doing myself cause I did some research I saw that the evo was being rooted and they said it was the same for the Sensation... I found a really great detailed video in two parts on you tube of how to do this step by step so there was going to be no error... Not only that there are lots of people on craigslist i could have paid to root... I took the chance... well no some a chance but I was certain that I would have no problems with doing this it was a 15 minute or so journey that came out just fine
I wanted to try flashing my Rom because I have read that after flashing with android revolution made their phone faster and battery last longer.

well cant argue against trimming the extra fat which is kinda slowing down the phone. Nothing like a lean mean calling machine.
Without root, you can't get rid of Sense. CM7 is so fast! Add a Faux kernel and see everyone else including the SGSII in the rearview mirror.
This was the video that i used to root my HTC Sensation... The video is for the Evo 3d but it also works for Sensation too... Watch first and decide wether or not you want to proceed

i rooted my phone just to get rid of the bloatware. i like play around with the stock rom first than move on to a custom rom.
if you are serious about rooting i sugest you read the guide several times before you continue. if you have any questions there are many here that will help you. i also like to add that it would be a good idea to check what rom you are using now and download the .ruu for it and keep it in a safe place. i have seen several questions here of someone trying to return their phone back to stock for warranty, exchange, or what ever reason they want to return back to stock but they dont know what rom they had before flashing. so download this ruu first before trying to flash a different rom. it will save you the hastle.

This post has the best links for ya... I personally prefer to do the downgrade manually.
You won't regret this device, trust me ... It says 800mhz on the box but I run at 1ghz and most shifts are overclockable to 1.8-1.9ghz. Sense isn't too bad either, i.m.o, way better than blur. Look forward to seeing ya around the forums!

Since you are on 2.3.3 you will have to downgrade hboot and root from froyo. The link I posted goes to a post with links. The first link of that post is the one you are looking for...

ok sorry not familiar with down grading i usually just flash a tar file or run a windows batch file that automatically roots and runs the scripts automatically for you..

There are some batch scripts made by the developer Indirect... I believe the first link I posted has a link to that script as well... Its not difficult, just take your time and be patient...

Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255474
Or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357157
And there's one more link to a script but I cant find it right now.
Like Drob said, to be able to get full s-off you'll have to downgrade your Hboot using one of the above mentioned methods. Or you could upgrade to 2.3.4 and use HTC's half ass unlock tool.

I guess technically you dont have to use sdk/adb.. Im sure you could use terminal to temp root and push the misc.img, then use ShiftRR (an automated root for 2.2.) once you have ruu'ed.

Yes, but in the long run it's going to be better to have all that ISH set up anyway .
Just a question and please dont take it the wrong way, but how does one plan on working on deving/porting miui or anything for that matter without the sdk/adb? I feel it is VERY important to have adb setup.

There's no need to use the unlock bootloader thing from htc, Indirect (over in the dev section) has a root method for 2.3.4 (if you choose to update to 2.3.4 anyway) that doesnt involve using the unlock tools

Well if your taking it to Sprint. Upgrading it to 2.3.4 is probably one of the first things they'll do. Before they even trouble shoot it . if you end up keeping the device, and they upgrade it. you can use the method suggested above. The link is below.

i took it to sprint they didn't give me a new phone sigh... and they did some stupid test whitch i know i could have done myself being a hacker and all.. i noticed phone freezing lagging like crazy my epic at the time was wonderful.. but they didn't upgrade firmware at all.. so i guess how would i upgrade to 3.4 ??
Setting>system updates> firmware update.. rooting does solve all the problems that the phone has

I got the one s and its working perfectly and smooth but only one thing is starting to irk me, and that's the bloatware...I want to get rid of it and heard that there's only a temporary root but correct me if I'm wrong I would like to know if theres a permanent root for the one s to get rid of the bloatware. Any type of advice is really appreciated.

You can use the available root method to remove bloat. Search the forum before asking questions and you'll find answers. Check in development. Congrats with your new phone hope u love it.

there is permanent root for the One S... flash it and use something like titanium backup to remove all the bloatware

depends if you want rid of portions of the bloatware..you could just use rootexplorer and knock off the apps you dont need. i do that with sense roms old and new..and get rid of crap like peep etc..
htc needs to get wise to that lol...never understood why they insist on filling there roms full of rubbish..saying that..some people like
Ze swings and roundabouts me thinks...ZE swings and ze roundabouts
Well thx and it would really help if someone would post a thread link so I can get straight to it, I would look around in the forum but my busy hours at work won't let me, and this amazing phone just needs the bloatware completely removed...oh and if you guys know any good roms for the one s, I know they are still in development, but if the essentials work that's all I need to know...thx for taking time to help a noob.

Unlock at HTCdev then use the above link(paulobrien method) it works with US T-Mobile also. Its as simple as connecting phone to PC and installing the file. Presto! Root!
I have US version and it worked fine. After rooting download Rom Manager from play store and use it to flash recovery.

What about the security, I saw it on some of these videos that they have their phone rooted with s-on still on the phone. Do we not mess with the security on the phone?

just got through unlocking the bootloader, everything went great, but just a quick question before i root it, is it safe to run the root from the hasoon2000 kit to the phone that is a tmobile version or should i try the O'brian method? im just curious and take precautions, i dont want to brick my phone at all.
quick edit: i used obrians method, worked good and everything works fine, started up normally with a little lag then smoothly continued, im figuring that thats it....now for a rom anyone has a good rom that is good, i like the same default one that was with the phone, but all i wanted to do was keep everything and just completely take out the bloatware....i dont mind having the themes changed i just want the bloatware out of this amazing phone. thanks for helping me out.

Now that your phone is rooted just use Root Explorer to remove all the extra crap you don't want on your phone. Look in "/system/app" That's where the bloat is located.
