Why devs dont make roms for the s3 variant - HTC One S

Because it isn't as popular as the S4. Give it time, there will be ROMs for it soon.

That you are what? I believe all One S phones are being shipped with S3 chips. That will grow the population. Like I said, give it time.

All non T-Mobile One S's.
The devs already know about you guys, you JUST got a custom recovery. Won't be too much longer before you get a rom. Didn't someone say they would cook for it?

The problem is we don't even have enough developers work on S4. See we only have very less S4 Roms compared to One X and One AT&T(AKA One XL).
The S3 isn't as popular as S4. Although it will ship S3 in all countries outside US now but I see almost NO ONE going to buy it in HK(and all S4 sold here).
I believe the situation won't be better on other places. The One S S3 definitely is a failure. The Asus Padphone and some of China Android phones started to ship with S4 now. HTC told us Qualcomm doesn't has stocks isn't correct.

I don't really think the S3 Variant will become that popular. I know that it is being sold outside of the US now but most people who wanted a One S wanted it for the upgraded processor. I've seen a lot of threads about people who got the ''New'' One S and either returned it for an S4 or--more likely--changed it for another phone. Why pay for an S3 variant when you can get a One XL with the S4 or a One X with the Quad Tegra.

Exactly.
The replacement of S4 variants with S3 variants in markets where the S4 one had been sold will also affect warranty and repair related exchanges, however. I have had my S4 One S replaced by a S3 One S by HTC and am currently disputing with them to get an S4 version back.

Yes, but when did you buy it? Purchasing a S4 One S isn't the problem. The problem is purchasing an S3 One S for the same amount or buying an S4 variant only to have HTC send you a S3 when you need it replaced.

You can unlock it using the official HTC Dev website - alot of issues at the moment as the site states it MAY void your warranty but to consumers themselves they stated that it WILL. Even though people are trying to return handsets because of faulty issues unrelated to bootloader or custom roms.

SGS3
Samsung phones are definetly more widespread than HTC phones. Most people just stay with their current brand...
Definitely SGS3. It may not sell as well as the predecessor but it will definitely sell millions, and that's what matters.
hi
it really depends, on which phone sells, and in what numbers.. the more numbers they sell the more bigger and better ROM community. I would say wait for a few months after release and see which phone sells better.
the GSII/9100 was probably the first BIG-SELL for a non-iphone, and hence has a big community, and is still selling...
I really doubt if GSIII would equal the success of the GSII, as most people still have the GSII with them. The only folks who will buy it are the older phone owners.
also, I read somewhere Samsung chose to use a inferior-performance-quad processor over a superior-performance-dual-core for marketing reasons, and probably to recover some costs over its quad-core development, so at least I am going to wait and watch for a while, and am not sure how many of us here share my perspective...
Anyways... enjoying wanamlite+siyah3.1.2 on my gsII for now...

[Q] HTC One S: S3 vs S4

HTC finally launched One S in Asia, but with S3 instead of S4 which is overclocked to 1.7GHz. How do you think overclocking the processor will help and to what extend. I suppose it will be faster than normal 1.5GHz S3 processor. But how much does overclocked S3 fall behind S4? How will it affect the applications? I'm plannin to buy HTC One S, only ones available here comes with S3...excited, yet not sooo happy bout S3 processor. Any inputs and thoughts are welcome.!
There are a few threads on this. It does not perform nearly as well as the S4, and the S4 has already been OC'd to 1.8GHz-2.0GHz. The only thing the S3 has going for it is slightly improved battery life.

Nope, the S3 gets less battery... Where did you hear that?
And my question here is:
How much of a difference there is, when spoken in real-life usage and terms.
The benchmark is quite different, but in reality?
Would i lose a lot when getting a S3?
My dilemma is, that my carrier has only S3 handsets and through them i can get an S3 basicly free, cause my employer would pay most of the monthly pay.
But i could get a S4 variant which i would have to pay myself, around 20€/month.
Since i am quite the enthusiast and have high standards, is the S4 worth paying for like that?

What is the point of this thread? It is obvious that an S4 is better than the S3. I mean why the hell would they upgrade to a lesser chip? Why would HTC and Samsung put the S4 in their flagship devices? Only reason the S3 is in the One S in some countries is costs and supply.
Stop trying to convince yourself there is no difference. Sorry about your luck in availability where you live.

It is due to shortage of the chips that are produced. The need for Flaghip phones is greater then the capability of producing S4 chipsets. So HTC has decided that asians and eastern-europeans are inferior people who do not deserve the better one.
I consulted with my carrier product manager and he said(few days after consulting with HTC) that to estonia there will never be (offically) available the S4 chipped models.

I confirm you in all HK/TW forums we indeed treat HTC as a racist company. We have support by facts in this case. HTC isn't going to tell us it's a S3 until people found it out and they don't lower the price, they sell you a S3 with S4 price. The price here at HK is even higher than Xperia S by US$13, strange enough. The worse case is HTC TW official replied the S3 is as great as S4....lol
There are some HTC fans who still buy the One S(S3) in Taiwan while in HK/China, I see no one going to get it, I've never seen one who equipped with One S in the street. I could tell you most shops here refuse to sell it too.

On the box, it says the GHz of the phone. 1.5GHz is S4, 1.7GHz is S3 I believe, might want to double check that though.
Here in Serbia carrier that sells HTC One S received only phones with S3 processor, but you can find S4 in stores, it's just without any carrier plan (free sale), and it's too expensive that way in my opinion.

Find info where it states Model at back of phone's box. If you see Z560e then it's S3 inside, but if you see Z520e - it's S4 processor.
Cheers.
I was in the same dilemma living in Asia and being from one of the countries where the S4 is being sold. What I did was get a friend from Australia to buy me on the Aussie website "topbuy" for 499 dollars (and they sell the S3 version for over 600 US dollars in the country where I live. Unbelievable). Good deal and still got the better version with 1 year Aussie warranty.

Honestly? I'd go GS3 if I was gonna upgrade right now. The One S is 'eh' at best and since it's a "high end HTC device", we probably won't see another one for a while. I contemplated upgrading to it within the week but they said I'd lose my 10 GB grandfathered data plan - which I absolutely refuse to do.
Funny thing too, they offered me a One S for $350 + Two year extension. I asked them if they realized that it's two hundred to two fifty on Craigslist in my area. They had nothing to say to that.
I absolutely love the SGS3, but wouldn't get it right now for T-Mobile for three reasons.
First, the T-Mo version costs more than other carriers SGS3s. That just rubs me the wrong way.
Second, we get the Qualcomm S4 version here. Dual core? Seriously?? I think that's lame considering EU gets the Exynos quad core version.
And last, and most annoying, the T-Mo SGS3 won't be compatible with the upcoming LTE because of the spectrum T-Mo is planning to use. Boo!
TL;DR I'd just wait. Sensation isn't top of the line anymore, but it's still pretty decent until some real upgrades find their way stateside.
Well i thought google said they will release at least 5 nexus devices in november, one for each different manufacturer. Why not get the next htc nexus then?

What's bad with dual core? The S4 keeps up with the Tegre3 and even beats it in some benchmarks. Does Android even benefit from quad core yet? I don't believe it really does. Hell, I have eight cores in my notebook and Windows hardly uses four of em.
If you want a good phone with good performance and best AOSP experience (speed, battery life, etc) wait for upcoming nexus.
I can live with sensation until google released new nexus phone.
But if you want a beautiful software and functionality go to HTC.
I dont like samsung experience but i should admit their hardware still the best (not its build quality tho).

Nothing bad with it really. Like I said, our Sensations are more than capable right now with dual core. It's just that if I'm going to break out the wallet and potentially renew my contract, it better be for a serious upgrade. An update from s3 to s4 just doesn't blow me away.
Remember when our Sensations came out and GB wasn't ready for dual core? Well now we have ICS and all is good. Same concept. I'd really hate to be on a dual core SGS3 and then the next version of Android comes out supporting quad core.
Silly to upgrade now. The GS3 is certainly "better" than the Sensation, but it's not enough of an improvement imo to justify the upgrade. I side with the people who say you should upgrade once new phones absolutely blow yours out of the water, not when they are merely a bit better. S4 dual core is pretty nice, and it beats the Sensations lackluster S3, but I'd rather wait for S4 quad core + Adreno 320 (a truly next gen gpu rather than Adreno 225, which is a slightly modified version of our gpu) or A15 exynos + Mali t-604 phones to hit, because they will undoubtedly roundhouse kick our sensations.

Good point. I, however, would like to mention that I never meant that I would get a GSIII right now, cause I'd have one if I did. All I meant was that if OP was getting a phone upgrade right now, GSIII over any HTC offering [T-Mobile's One S] is the way to go.

Thinking about getting a nexus 4, Anyone else with me?

I really, really want the nexus 4 and I could sell my HTC One X on craigslist and get around $300 for it. Is anyone else doing this as well or am I just stupid and should I keep my HTC one x?
I will be jumping to the nexus for sure... After I see how early adopters fare with it.
After getting the one X I swore I would never buy another non-nexus phone. Granted the hardware on the nexus phones normally isn't the top of the line, but I never felt locked down in any way with the nexus phones. Want an unlocked bootloader, one simple command in adb and she is unlocked.
Also since there is only going to be one model all developers will be creating roms and kernels for just that nexus. No 4G models, or models with different processors, gpus, ect ect.
From what I have seen the specs will be good enough for me, as long as the battery life is as good as the one X and there are no production problems I will be grabbing one right away.

I was searching if HTC One X+ would work with Tmobile high speed data and that is how I came across this post.
I do not mean to be smartass but simply stating that Tegra 3 is not blown out by S4. OP might have made a choice but all I am saying is that HTC makes better product than Samsung and LG in general. When spending $500 or more on a phone I rather have a phone which has decent quality and premium feel to it.
By the way polycarbonate is nothing but more durable plastic and has similar look and feel.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the Nexus 4 is less than $400.
Anyways sorry for coming off as rude, however choosing to trade in the Nexus 4 for an HTC One X+ is NOT worth it, as he is giving up HSPA+42 (now LTE as well), for limited markets with HSPA+21, as well as an S4 Pro, amazing development support, updates straight from Google, no bloat or branding, and bugfree custom ROMs.
Polycarbonate/plastic have the advantage over aluminum and glass in the fact that it is lighter. I don't give a fck but you can't just call out those materials just because they "feel cheap." Why does this even matter to the OP? He never mentioned any Samsung

Well AT&T devices don't support HSPA+42 anyway, so even if the reframed network does HSPA+42, the phone itself would not access it.
