my brother has a xoom tablet and he just bought an asus tf300. Im trying to transfer all of his apps and app data to his new tablet but his xoom does not have root access or an unlocked bootloader. I usually used Titanium Backup to do this but seeing I dont have root that is not going to work for me. I know how to root it but I dont want to wipe all of his stuff. is there anyway to backup all of his stuff to an sd card or pc in order to transfer it to his new tablet on a locked xoom with no root? its running HC. Thanks

From Honeycomb, no.
From ICS, possibly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351 but I haven't heard of anyone on a Xoom getting it to work successfully (your mileage may vary.)
And as far as I know there is no way of rooting it while it still has the locked bootloader.

Should be able to restore to any 4.0 device afaik, tho I would refrain from restoring the system applications onto any device other than a xoom.

Based on the thread I originally pointed you at I have the following question: did you have a backup password set in developer options before you took the backup? If so, then I'm sorry, I don't have any other ideas for you. I personally don't have any way to currently try it myself to see if I can get it to work.

thanks for your help. I didnt put a password on the backup and i could not restore the .ab file to my other tablet. I backed up my internal memory and unlocked the bootloader, installed CWM and rooted it. I restored the .ab file to the xoom, backed up my apps in Titanium Backup and transferred the TB folder to my new tablet and restore it that way.....thanks again

Hello,
I've got a Skyrocket i727 and am stuck on the psneuter part when trying to root. I'm sorry for posting here since I'm sure the answers lie somewhere, but I've been researching since yesterday and haven't found it. I'm on a satellite internet connection that is pretttty slow.
Anyways, so I have the drivers installed, and then run SuperOneClick as Admin on windows 7. I click root and it runs until psneuter then appears to be stuck. It freezes there. When I close the black command screen that has opened it suggests I turn off debugging mode. When I try to close debugging mode it just stays at Waiting for Device...
So, what am I missing?
Thanks so much in advance.
SuperOneClick didn't work on mine because it had updated to 2.3.6 from 2.3.5...Which one do you have?
You need to use this method if your on android 2.3.6

So, I've done some reading about CWM and am still not quite sure what it is. Does it replace my current setup? Do I lose my stuff?
Edit: for anyone else following this topic I found this info about cwm:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
Is it possible to do this without having an external sd card?
Must have external SD. CWM is an aftermarket recovery that replaces your stock recovery. It allows you to flash roms, make nandroid backups restore nandroid backups ect.....

I had this issue over the weekend. Go out to samsungs site and find the kids drivers. In the superclick in the "exploit" switch to zergrush, click root. It should say do you want to install drivers, click yes and it shouldn't take more then 10 minutes.
Anyone know of a non-destructive root method for ICS? My wife and I are swapping phones. Mine is rooted and all but hers isn't and I want to make a Titanium backup of all her stuff.
So far the only method I know of to root is via OEM unlock and flashing clockwork recovery. Then installing su via CWR. The OEM unlock erases everything.

I believe you can root it without unlocking the boot loader using SuperOneClick but I could be wrong. Either way worth a try

Move the TitaniumBackup folder to your PC before starting. Don't forget your pictures folder too!
just copy your entire SDcard to your computer , and then after unlocked bootloader copy it back
Thanks guys, but that doesn't restore any apps or their data.
I'll try the superoneclick.

My understanding is that you can unroot as needed, so I wouldn't consider rooting the S "destructive". There are instructions to be found easily that explain how to unroot your phone.
Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant -- disregard the above.
Can't you back up most stuff using MyBackup?

I think he means the wipe accompanying a bootloader unlock as being destructive.

Actually I found another program that works even better (imo). It's called RootUnlocker and it worked for both the Nexus S running 4.0.3 and the LG Optimus 2x running 2.2. However, it didn't work for my Acer a500 but there's currently no method to root 3.2 on it. You need to down grade first.

Edit: Correction, it's not called root unlocker, but rather Unlock Root (http://www.unlockroot.com).
Had my Xoom since Christmas. I unlocked and rooted mine soon thereafter. However, my sister and brothers didn't think it was neccessary so they didn't let me do theirs. Now things have changed my sister wants a new boot animation and since updating to ics I can't adb push it to where it needs to be. But there is a problem she has been playing Sims freeplay since it came out and is pretty far along in the game and doesn't want to lose that. I know when you unlock the bootloader it erases everything. I want to know if there is someway to backup the important stuff on her tablet before i root it.
If your sister's Xoom is actually on ICS then you could try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351
actually been trying that for the last thirty minutes and i'm not getting consistent files sizes for the backups
If I'm not mistaken there should be a way to root without unlocking the BL. Once you have root you could use titanium backup to backup all her apps/data.

Pics or it never happened
In all seriousness tho, you can't get a custom recovery on the Xoom without unlocking the bootloader, and you can't flash/adb the root files to it otherwise. (well, unless this works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527665&highlight=root, but I think this also unlocks the bootloader)
Hi, I just rooted my phone by using this awesome guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659, I was wondering what are the larger benefits i should be doing now that my phone is rooted? and how do i upgrade from CWM V5.5 to CWM V6 ? Thanks a lot

Download the latest CWM Recovery and flash it as you did the previous, would be smart to get the CWM Touch version.
Well lets see with a rooted phone, you can install apps from various APK files, some of which allow you to use your device as a tethered modem for a laptop or Tablet. What more can you do with a rooted phone, well you can install various custom ROM's, but if you are not familiar with that aspect, READ, READ, and READ some more take several days to read on how to do it, before you download anything to do it. NO ONE will take responsibility for anything that you do to your device, except for yourself. You brick it you buy it.
There are a LOT of custom ROMs out there, read up on them, and find one that suits you. Don't just flash the first one you see, be as best informed as you can possibly be.
thanks, right now im trying to backup my efs folder, but the apps i tried ktool and efs pro says it doesnt support the skyrocket. what else could i do?

Get Super Manager from market. Copy the whole EFS folder to an external sd card. Then from there copy it over to your comp. This way you have two backups of the whole thing.
My phone is rooted, what would be the best way for me to unlock the tethering option without having to pay for it? I would prefer a way to do it like by root explore and changing some values as to installing an app....any input would be great. And yes I'm rooted on stock ics, from att

After I had rooted mine, I went in and was able to use tethering WITHOUT an app, nor making changes. (that I recall). Mine was still ICS Stock but rooted.

Flash the moded 6.0.15 cwm recovery from sk8erwitskil in the dev section and it has the option to backup the efs as an img..Just copying the efs folder will not do a crap for you cause the permissions are messed up this way...And by the way learn to do things by your own (by reading here) ... Its xda here not a cooking forum and links to google play store..
After installing CWM and CM 10.1 vingray the xoom worked for a couple off days and then it got stuck at the load screen with the motorola logo. Tried factory reset and installing CM again, but the device cannot find sd-card slot. Is there anyway i can get it to find the sd-card slot(is there drivers maybe)? Or even start over from stock? CWM workes fine.

I dont think so. Nothing ever finds the sd card. Tried all the options in CWM but nothing helps.

And installed the wifi xoom restore into the platform tools folder. Then it showed up in the command prompt. Easy as hell when i first got there. But thanks anyway its up and running Now its time to root and install CM all over again. Not giving up.
