I am new to the ROM scene. I recently tried to install the MIUI ROM, but the text messaging didn't work. So I tried to install another ROM (Dark Knight). Now my phone only boots to recovery mode. I have searched the internet for a solution, but cannot find one. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a recovery bootloop caused by switching from MIUI to ICS, similar to switching from GB to ICS ..

Here is the Infuse toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702026

Return back to stock using this: Heimdall One-click Back-To-Stock UCLB3
then flash one of entropys daily drivers using the same method but with this: Entropy heimdal kernels/recovery (this will give you red cwm allowing you to flash roms...if you flash ics from this recovery you will need to do a double flash-flash like normal, then reboot back to recovery and flash again
both links are taking from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
How to get in download mode (needed to run the programs i linked):
1) remove battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up+down simultaneously -but do not touch the power button...don't touch the power button, just don't do it lol
4) while holding both volume keys connect your phone to the computer using a usb data cable (like the one that came with the phone)
-you should now be in download mode or at a screen giving you the option to boot to download mode or reboot system

Lost my recovery. So I got the VERY first GB leak on this phone the KF1. I tried searching but to no avail. Alright. So I dont have a recovery mode. How? Everytime I do the button combo to go into it, it takes me straight to download mode. I've played around a bit on it and I got it to work off adb but I want to get it back into the volume combo thing. Any ideas how to get that back? I have no idea of CWM works on this version but Im open to stuff. Also on a mac not pc so ODIN isnt an option at the moment.
Please, do not, I repeat, DO NOT flash KF1/2. Those were horrible.
The method of getting into recovery and download mode is different from every other ROM.
I believe it was just holding either volume up and power or volume down and power.

Yeah, what bkoon said. I'd flash the base KG4 (first GB with the right boot loaders) then maybe drop a more updated ROM on it. I'm currently on KJ6. Probably will put drhonk's latest kernel on it for cwm
, root, & voodoo.
I'm not sure of the button combo for recovery, I use either the quickboot app (requires root) or the Android SDK so I can use adb.

Vol up+vol down+power. As soon as see the splash screen let go.
But the kf series has jacked bootloaders. ODIN KH2, then odin drhonk's modded kh2 kernel, then feel free to flash what you want

sorry i was busy with my kids and halloween and couldnt get to my pc, anyway the program on your pc is http://www.mediafire.com/?6cx6u7pphu4b5cd mini partition sorry way off. then you just convert the entire sd card to ext4 which will lose all your data, so BACK UP. then you should be able to go into download mode (battery out plug the usb in pc and phone then place battery in and push down vol. button and then you should be able to odin. i would odin the kg4 rom with voodoo and then from there you can flasj via cwm any rom you want. let me know if you need any help
"IV. Flash the Recovery Image
1. Remove the battery from your device (if you put it back in).
2. Plug the phone in via USB cable to your computer.
3. Right click OneClickRecoveryFlasher.exe inside the NvFlasher folder inside the file you extracted in section II and select Run As Administrator (if such an option doesn’t exist, just select Open).
4. Once it is done, unplug the device from the USB cable.
5. Now, hold Volume Up and Volume Down (and keep holding them through the next couple of steps).
6. Plug the phone in via USB Cable (with the volume up and volume down still being held).
7. While still holding the volume up and volume down buttons, click on Flash ClockworkMod 3.0.2.7 on your computer.
8. Once it says “S/W Upgrade – Please wait while upgrading…”, you can let go of the volume up and volume down and just wait for it to finish flashing in the command prompt.
9. Once it is done, it’ll say press any key to continue in the command prompt window on the computer. That means it is done, press enter then unplug your device from the computer.
10. Put your battery back in.
11. To boot into recovery mode in the future, simply turn off the phone then turn it back on by holding down Volume Down and Power and keep holding it until you see the word Android in Orange letters.
V. (Optional) Flash a Custom ROM
1. Head to our How To Flash a Custom ROM procedure to begin flashing custom ROMs (like Gingerbread ROMS etc.).
VI. (Optional) Flash Back to Normal Recovery
1. You can follow section IV but click Flash Stock instead of Flash ClockworkMod to get back to a stock recovery image."
this is the way i flashed my phone, i tired different roms but in my opinion the g2x is not really worth rooting, so i want to go back to stock. i did a back up before flashing any new roms,
so my question is if i restore the original back up,follow step IV but then go to "flash stock" instead of Flash ClockworkMod ,will that unroot my phone completely stock? (tmobile wont know that it was ever rooted?)
thanks for the help, i read other unroot methods but not sure if this will do.
I believe that just puts back the default recovery and removers CWM. Looking at the steps you took, you never rooted your phone in the first place. Do you remember using SuperOneClick or another rooting tool? Flashing Recovery!= rooting.

After installing CWM did you immediately make a backup? If so you weren't rooted. The ROMS you installed were but the backup isn't. Just try to install an app that requires root privileges and see if it works. If it does, just download SuperOneClick and click Un-Root.

Sorry, I'm new at rooting and this is first phone I rooted, but yea your right, it won't let me use rooted apps on the first back up I did (stock one) it only let me on the other Roms I installed, so how I get back to completely stock? If I hold power and down volume it takes me to recovery, Thanks for all the help

I upgraded from stock clean factory reset Froyo to ICS today through the following steps.
1. Rooted Device via One Click.
2. Used [ODIN][UCLB3] UCLB3 Unbrick - Return to stock - Working PIT included, Did Unbrick with Root Included.
3. Downloaded SGS Flash Kernel and flashed Entropy kernel DD_03042012.zip.
4. Applied GB BootLoaders via Odin.
5. Installed "The Infuse Toolkit" to backup everything.
6. Installed latest Infinitum ICS via instructions on Llama's Video tutorial.
Everything seems to work fine but when I tried to go into the Recovery mode to upgrade to JellyBean it just stays stuck at the Galaxy S / Cyanogen (mod) logo and never goes into it. I have to remove the battery to get out of it, but if I let it boot up normal it goes into ICS without any issues.
What did I do wrong? how do I fix it?
Have you tried rebooting to recovery from the power menu, and also booting into recovery manually?
Hold vol+, vol- & power, and let go of power when you see the samsung logo.

That is the only way I tried. I shut it off, held the volume +/- and power and then let go of power when the logo comes up and hold the volume buttons for 10+ seconds and still nothing. Even tried holding it for a minute+ and nothing. Just stays stuck at the Galaxy and cyanmod logos and I have to remove the battery for it to shut off and then it boots back into ICS without issues.
How do I boot into recovery from the power menu???
Most roms have the option to choose between a normal reboot and to reboot into recovery.
If that does not work, use the heimdall one-click ics recovery linked on cm10's OP.

Are you talking about the OP here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129
Where it says:
"Stuck at the Samsung logo after not following my directions? Thats fine, just Download ICS one click HERE. Put your phone into download mode andconnect to your computer and then double click the ICS file and click flash.. This will flash the ICS kernel and ICS recovery and reboot. When it reboots, you will need to pull the battery or else you will get stuck at samsung screen. Put battery back in and boot into recovery and follow above steps to flash Jellybean."
That has a link to here: http://d-h.st/fy6
For the file: SGH_I997-ICS-Kernel-One-Click.jar
Once I do that, can I just use ICS or will I HAVE to upgrade to JellyBean???
Thanks!
That's the one. And no, you can stay on ICS. That will only flash an ICS kernel with blue recovery.

IT WORKED!!!
I downloaded that JAR file, executed it, installed the drivers as it requested and allowed it to flash the kernel after I got the phone into Download mode. It then booted into ICS without any issues and I was also able to get into the Recovery mode with no problems. I then proceeded to install the JellyBean ROM and Justin Bean's GAPP Aroma files. It now works without issue!!!
The only real gripe I have with JellyBean is the 720p video recording is super choppy. If that was working then it would be perfect for me.
Thanks again for your guidance!
Hi,
I have this old Galaxy Ace Plus phone which doesn't boot. It had an old SlimRom on it and I installed the stock firmware over it by odin.
The phone starts boots to the 'SAMSUNG' logo that appears in the middle of the screen just before the homepage screen and vibrates sort of 'prrrr prrrr prr prr prr' and reboots and the same thing continuously.
Since then it won't boot and won't even go to recovery mode. When I press the recovery mode combo it does nothing 'black blank screen and no sound or vibration activity as if the phone is switched off completely'.
As per a few threads I saw to fix the bootloop you need to go to recovery and flash a file but because I can't go to recovery I am stuck.
However I can go to the download mode.
Here is what I have tried so far..
Re-downloaded and reinstalled the stock firmware
Tried to flash different recovery's.
Tried different ODIN versions (all say passed/OK)
Reboot manually after odin flash directly to recovery mode
Played with battery and some buttons
Tried different location stock firmwares
Nothing so far..
Is there anything else I can try ?
Thanks.
have you tried with the last firmware for ace plus ??

Thanks for the reply.
All the Ace plus firmwares on sammobile are 2.3.6
I have tried of a few regions but all are failing at the same boot loop.
hmm.. have you tried to flash TWRP ??
ps: are you sure that you can't go on recovery ? the combo is volume - volume + home button + power button (on/off) and when you will see the logo "samsung" you must leave the power button but don't leave the other.
Yes i have tried the correct combo. However i will search and try to flash twrp.
Will let you know.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I have flashed it and it says RES OK and green color so I assume its fine. However the phone doesn't accept my recovery button combo ( Vol-Up + Vol-Down + Power + Home ). I think its scrap now.
Yes, I use Odin 1.85
maybe you have got a problem with one of button ?

I think so....I had the same problem some days ago....and I think it's an hardware problem (the power button)
You can also try to connect the phone on the pc via usb and try with adb commands
-write on cmd (terminal) adb shell and if you get
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 * ( the port number maybe can change)
* daemon started successfully *
-now write adb reboot recovery and the phone must reboot into recovery
When i use my mo it ll reboot
sorry, but what do you mean with mo ?
I am curious because I can't be able to get into download mode from any custom ROM i had tried, and I would like to do an heimdall flash back into stock.

Yep, "adb reboot download" has never worked on any MTD ROMs (CM7 and newer) - something to do with a proprietary module not doing working (before my time...).
Anyways, the way that I always get into download mode is:
1) Power off your device
2) Push and hold both volume buttons
3) Plug in the phone to the computer.
If this doesn't work, then you can buy a download mode jig (or make your own - its a resistor attached to two of the pins IIRC).
