Lost my recovery. So I got the VERY first GB leak on this phone the KF1. I tried searching but to no avail. Alright. So I dont have a recovery mode. How? Everytime I do the button combo to go into it, it takes me straight to download mode. I've played around a bit on it and I got it to work off adb but I want to get it back into the volume combo thing. Any ideas how to get that back? I have no idea of CWM works on this version but Im open to stuff. Also on a mac not pc so ODIN isnt an option at the moment.
Please, do not, I repeat, DO NOT flash KF1/2. Those were horrible.
The method of getting into recovery and download mode is different from every other ROM.
I believe it was just holding either volume up and power or volume down and power.

Yeah, what bkoon said. I'd flash the base KG4 (first GB with the right boot loaders) then maybe drop a more updated ROM on it. I'm currently on KJ6. Probably will put drhonk's latest kernel on it for cwm
, root, & voodoo.
I'm not sure of the button combo for recovery, I use either the quickboot app (requires root) or the Android SDK so I can use adb.

Vol up+vol down+power. As soon as see the splash screen let go.
But the kf series has jacked bootloaders. ODIN KH2, then odin drhonk's modded kh2 kernel, then feel free to flash what you want

sorry i was busy with my kids and halloween and couldnt get to my pc, anyway the program on your pc is http://www.mediafire.com/?6cx6u7pphu4b5cd mini partition sorry way off. then you just convert the entire sd card to ext4 which will lose all your data, so BACK UP. then you should be able to go into download mode (battery out plug the usb in pc and phone then place battery in and push down vol. button and then you should be able to odin. i would odin the kg4 rom with voodoo and then from there you can flasj via cwm any rom you want. let me know if you need any help

I'm following the guide here to install a rooted gingerbread rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127121
I've gotten to the step where I'm in a bootloop showing the fugu tweaks but I can't seem to get back into download mode. The first time I had to get into download mode i used the vol Up + down then plugged in the USB cable and it worked. After flashing in odin that method wouldn't work so I just did adb reboot download to get there.
Any ideas?

Just hold down power and the down volume button. Or you can pull the battery and hold down the volume down and power and put the battery back in.
What comes up? Does it talk about a failed recovery?

Volume down and power will put you in download mode. Then you flash the GB Zimage using Heimdall or flashing the Zimage.tar in Odin. Follow the instructions in the OP. After you get the funny loop screen power down. Then volume down and power to get in download mode. Connect usb and use Heimdall to flash the zimage or just use Odin and place the zimage tar in pda nothing else and flash.
Get Zimage.tar for Odin here

I didn't know that you only need vol. down to get into download. Thought you had to do vol. down + up.
But thanks for the help, I got it working
No problem. Glad you got it working
Hi, well, I got a new samsung showcase phone a few days ago, and
being from Guam, I'm not really sure where the phone came from (carrier-wise).
But here's the stats on my phone:
Hardware version I500.04
Model Number SCH-I500
Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband: S:i500.04 k.EC04
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: SCH-i500.EC04
I've managed to root the phone using superoneclick, but I've been stuck all day trying to flash clockwork recovery on my phone. By following the steps posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-850898.html
I was able to get up to the point where the phone rebooted due to this command
redbend_ua restore /sdcard/recovery.bin /dev/block/bml8
After I downloaded ROM manager and flashed clockwork recovery (3.0.0.8),
I still get the stock samsung recovery (3e). There's also no way for me to manually boot into recovery.
Some users have successfully flashed CWR on EC04 (or I'm assuming) since, well at least one user (JWnSC ), was flashing custom roms on theirs.
Anybody willing to provide help?
Also, I'd like to mention that I'm very lucky to NOT have bricked my phone at this point.
I flashed mine via odin but you will loose your stock recovery permanently. Currently no ec04 odin files to return to stock so be careful what you flash.

Well, I tried flashing the .tar JWnSC linked, and Odin successfully flashed it but every time I try to go into recovery (via Quickboot), it sends me to the stock recovery screen. What is the button combination to go into CWR? Because when I use all three buttons, it sends me to download mode, same thing with vol down + power button. Vol up + power while powered off, does not do anything for me other than freeze my screen for a couple of seconds and boot up normally. However, while it is powered on, vol up + power sends me to an "unknown mode"/upload mode. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong at this point.
Edit: I had to flash 3 button combination for download mode (via Odin) found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-821698.html) because my phone (I think) did not have download mode. I never really had seen that "unknown mode"/upload mode until I started messing around with all the button combinations.
I have a broken power button and currently boot looping ics, I will have to jig into download mode, the button combos don't work for me now, and will one click to stock, then need to flash a kernel with cwm with Oden that can use the search key as enter and then to CM7.
My problem is what kernel to use that has the ability to use the key in cwm

I searched around a it in the development section and what I would suggest possibly trying to find a 2.2/2.3 rom that includes cwm and a custom kernel that you can flash with odin. I would get conformation on this but I believe you can change a .zip file to .tar and put it in the PDA slot of Odin and flash it. Though the worst that can happen is it fails and you just have to one click back to stock. Oh and be careful with bootloaders when doing this if a rom flashes them I would avoid it it's an unnecessary risk.
Edit: I believe you can use the above method to go straight to cyanogenmod you had to use odin originally to get it on your phone way back when cm7 was in beta.
I think the last DesignGears Cog-kernel (Cognition 5.2?) used the Home key as the 'enter' in recovery. Might that work out for you?
I am new to the ROM scene. I recently tried to install the MIUI ROM, but the text messaging didn't work. So I tried to install another ROM (Dark Knight). Now my phone only boots to recovery mode. I have searched the internet for a solution, but cannot find one. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a recovery bootloop caused by switching from MIUI to ICS, similar to switching from GB to ICS ..
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29028593&postcount=1
Here is the Infuse toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702026

Return back to stock using this: Heimdall One-click Back-To-Stock UCLB3
then flash one of entropys daily drivers using the same method but with this: Entropy heimdal kernels/recovery (this will give you red cwm allowing you to flash roms...if you flash ics from this recovery you will need to do a double flash-flash like normal, then reboot back to recovery and flash again
both links are taking from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
How to get in download mode (needed to run the programs i linked):
1) remove battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up+down simultaneously -but do not touch the power button...don't touch the power button, just don't do it lol
4) while holding both volume keys connect your phone to the computer using a usb data cable (like the one that came with the phone)
-you should now be in download mode or at a screen giving you the option to boot to download mode or reboot system

I can't get into CWM either. It just keeps rebooting and getting stuck on the boot screen.
For getting back to CWM, pull the battery (USB unplugged) so it turns off fully, put the battery back in, hold the volume up and down both on the left, and turn it on (hold power until you see something, let go of power but keep holding the volume keys). Once you see CWM come on, you can let go of the volume keys.
You flashed what from what? If what you flashed isn't the same major OS version, the nandroid backup is probably only going to be helpful through Titanium Backup or some other program since you won't be able to flash it successfully.

Ok so I tried to get back into CWM and it was unsuccessful. It just gets stuck on the boot screen still. I flashed my 2.3.6 stock rooted nandroid backup from this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404863 . I can still get to recovery mode just not CWM. Any ideas?
Okay... recovery mode but not CWM... what does that mean?
CWM IS recovery mode. Are you trying to get into download mode instead? For that, battery pull, battery in, plug in USB to computer, hold volume... up (I think), turn on (power button until the screen lights up), let go of power, should be in download mode.

Yeah.. I meant i couldn't get into recovery mode but I can get into download mode. Do you think this would get my phone working again? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Working as a phone, yes. If you can get into download mode, you should be able to flash stuff. If you flashed from Froyo to GB-custom, use the one-click twice... first to get the basic ROM over, then tell it to do bootloaders as well. If you flashed from GB to GB-custom, then you only need to flash once.
I'd suggest using the second link, BWaT+stock. Basically, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822626
If you have any problems, make sure you're following the guide fully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
After you get it booting up with root, you can extract apps from the nandroid using Titanium Backup or something else similar.
