I this normal? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey, my problem is that even using most of the time the brightness at 50%, google services can drain even more battery!
To me, that's not normal because on ics those never appeared on my stats saying that it was eating X% of battery = google services never wasted to much battery

I never have sync of any location or GPS on. I'll sync once and that's it I'll just use my backup its an app aNd I can save everything o could possibly need.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

I doubt sync is doing that though. I have gmail set to sync whenever and Google Services never pops up on that list. Disable the backup transport for a day and see what happens. If it doesn't show back up again, you found the culprit. I personally never even use it.

The location service takes up a lot of battery live in my experience. I'll take a look at the dump file as soon as I'm home after work. First look told me, your phone isn't correctly in deep sleep.

In my experience: battery saver are useless, they often decrease battery live.

So I have taken a look at the dump file.
It seems that your phone isn't sleeping correctly. Have u used the phone at all in the duration of the dump file?
Your phone is not rooted, am I right? If it is rooted turn in the alarms in the better battery stats settings.
I would suggest:
- get rid of any battery saver and task killer
- disable location service

Google Play Services Zapping Battery?!?

Try turning off photo sync on data. I set it to only upload on wifi and when plugged in. It went crazy on my nexus 4, but I have not had any issues with kitkat.

Your wakelocks or horrible. You need BBS as stated, but the instant drop is indicative of a bug in the stock rom or kernel. If it keeps doing that after the wakelock issues are resolved, you may need to flash another rom.

I think Google search incorporates Google Now which yes, mega battery drain in my opinion especially if it is polling for location constantly.
edit: that looks like my battery stats when I don't try to conserve energy and have heavy usage.

google services consuming battery

Ya I will thanks. I did notice something today though. When I got the phone Tuesday I activated it on a second line to get the discount. The next day I went back and switched it over to my line. After I went back I started getting this pop up saying- something went wrong....I'll try to attatch pic. Doesn't say what it's for or anything. So I went into sync and unchecked a bunch of craps. Haven't seen it again. Been about an hour.

Same issue here, coming fro the Note 3 I figured I would be disappointed with Battery but not like this. 4 hours off the charger and minimal use and I'm at 60% , Android System using 46% and Google Play Services using 42%. I'm also on Verizon...
I seem to be doing a little better today on battery. I went into app manager and disabled every Verizon app I could. I also unchecked administor box in Google. Haven't had the pop up yet today bout signing into something. So I'm still hoping this phone will hold up. 6hr31m at 73%

That's interesting. I'm still showing Google services consuming a fair amount of my juice. I think I might factory reset this phone because I don't know what the salesman did when he set it up. That's why I don't usually go into a retail store for new phones, they get there grubby paws all over it.
Go in Google now and uncheck the "ok Google" shortcut. A lot of complaints for 4.4.2 on the Moto X showed improvement by doing this. i did it day one just to be careful since i never use that shortcut. phrase. Just something to try and see if you have improvement. 4.4.2 on the Moto X had a crazy battery drain bug and that helped it.

battery drain question

So I'm running linaro Mahdi with linaro uber kernel and I left it unplugged over night. It went from 92% battery to 16% in the morning. Android system ui took 47% according the battery setting. Any ideas what's draining the battery?

it very well could be. if its a "stuck" process, the best thing to do is to just reboot, as a reboot usually fixes them.

Android System UI is exactly that, the user interface. It normally hovers around 2% or less on a stock machine but custom UI elements or perhaps even widgets could drive it further up.
What custom UI elements and widgets are you using?

One of those is most likely the cause. If the issue continues, you might want to remove them 1 by 1 until it goes away. Alternatively you can remove them all and add them back 1 by 1 until the issue reappears.

I was reading more about that process and one person said the high drain is due to having pocket mode turned on for the lock screen notifications. So im trying out using peak to see if that lowers my drain
