[Q] Cant install new ROM -> stuck in white HTC screen

I have tried installing several different ROMS all with the same result. -> stuck in the HTC white screen, not even the black letter that come after it normaly.
I followed the noob s-off guide, did every step like in the guide. Next i tried loading a new rom (Revolution HD and RCmix) both are the newest version as of now. Installing the entire ROM takes like 2 mins max (seems kinda short) but in both cases it says it is installed OK.
Everytime all i could do was reinstall the recovey (because that didnt work also) and then do a recovery of my old ROM.
I searched all the forums but nobody with a Sensation is having trouble with it.
I have a Sensation with HBOOT 1.18 and i have Android 2.3.4 with the 1.45.401.3 softwareversion.
I really dont get it. Can anybody please help with my Sensation problem???

do you have root access? s-off and root are two different things.
something definitely is off was your h-boot 1.18 prior to applying the noob proof s-off? because generally after gaining root your h-boot will change to 1.17xxxxxx
you will need this file
after s-off install clockworkmod or [4ext recovery (in my signature)]
*after recovery installed
*copy paste the downloaded file (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip) into the rootof your device
*reboot into recovery and apply update.zip
it might say the install was aborted. (go ahead and try again) if it says aborted one more time thats alright. it did this for me for both my sensations but it still gave me root access.
there is an app called Root Checker on the market that will verify if you have gained root access and give you possible solutions if you havent acquired root access through this process.
after you have achieved root access you will be able to apply roms successfully
Let me know if this works
Hi rddocke,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I forgot to mention in my post that i did do the rooting explained in the guide and by you, i am 100% sure i have root acces on my device, i can run titanium backup for instance (and actually backup), use setcpu and i have the extra "Superuser" tile in my list of programs.
I have HBOOT 1.18 before S-OFF and after I have 1.17.11111 i believe (definitely 1.17.xxxxxx).
U have any more help to give?

Hi,
I'm not sure which guide you used to get s-off,but have a look in my sig for the s-off guide there.
Did you do the super CID stage?
If you haven't,that might explain why none of the ROMS you are trying are working.

Noob Question About S-On, S-Off, and HTC's unlock

I used HTC's official unlock and my phone is unlocked, but has S-On. Is there a benefit to S-Off now that mine is unlocked? What is the difference between how the unlocks are? Sorry if i'm not making much sense, I'm new to this place and Android in general... I just got my sensation last week.
Welcome to Sensation
Don't worry, everyone's a noob at some point, I'm pretty much still a noob myself but as far as I understand it:
To this point you have unlocked your bootloader which simply allows the phone to boot with third-party software installed. In your phone there is a form of security check and the level of security is determined by whether you are S-ON or S-OFF. It's a flag at the radio level of your phone that checks images before they are allowed to be written to the system memory. So when you gain S-OFF, you gain unrestricted access to the NAND flash memory on your device, also known as root. With S-ON you can get temporary root but it's not guaranteed, with S-OFF you can get permanent root no matter what you flash.
Essentially gaining S-OFF permits superuser access to the phone, giving you control over all aspects of software and hardware.
If you like your phone the way it comes to you, all filled up with bloatware and stuck using only the latest version of Android that your carrier releases OTA, with a boring/crappy splash screen and boot animation (and so on and so forth ) then you have no real reason to get S-OFF.
If however you have seen some of the shiny ROMs put together by the devs here at XDA, or have a sweet custom splash screen you'd love to see every time you boot up the phone, or just like the idea of having complete control over YOUR phone and flashing what-the-hell-ever ROM/firmware/radio/other stuff you damn well please, then you should definitely consider rooting.
The disclaimer to all this is that if you aren't careful and don't thoroughly research what you're doing BEFORE you do it, you could brick your phone and give yourself some serious grief. The fact you're even asking this now is a point in your favour, there are far too many 'help me' posts on here from people who did something without bothering to try and understand it first. Knowledge is power and there's buckets of knowledge on this forum and others.
I'd suggest reading here and here at the very least.
Hope that helps
s-off means you may do anything with your phone,
you will lose warrenty at s-off gain it at s-on
as the other guy said if u want a nice toutch to your rom s-off it and install, if u want it still legal dont
Thanks for the info. I've been considering using an ICS OTA file on my HTC Sensation 4G, but the guides i've seen only mention S-OFF and nothing about the unlocked S-ON. I just can't wait for the official release!
On the other hand though, I also want to remove bloatware from this phone and found a script for such... but i can't seem to get any temp root method working. I'm not ready to jump off the deep end yet, but i'm tired of the unnecessary stuff.
I also couldn't wait for the official ICS release so I s-off, rooted, super CID, and flashed an ICS firmware and went to android revolution. Honestly, it's one of the best decisions Ive ever made. If you think your stock phone is running good right now, you'll be amazed when you flash it, it will run absolutely faster I tell you.
Though there are alot of risks doing all of that, it might brick your phone completely. So be very careful, read and understand everything if you're going to do all of those stuff.

Hey Guys Noob here,
I need help big time. I gone and mess with something I shouldn't have. I'm a first time android/touch screen user so bear with me.
I was trying to S-off my phone (alrady rooted- after several tries) but I downloaded the juopunutbear zip file on my phone. I mistakenly loaded it via the CWM recovery and now the screen is stuck on that juopunutbear image.
I have tried to flash my rom because I thought it was just a boot loop, but nothing happened. I NEED some advice please don't tell me I bricked it. :crying:

if you can boot into bootloader then you are not bricked
secondly what do you mean by juopunutbear.zip and from where?
edit:you said that you are already rooted
which means that you have unlocked bootloader from htcdev site am i right?
Yes it was already unlock from HTC dev, but I was trying to get S- off using the wire trick method. In reading the Jounutbear guide thread it directed u to a link which has the zip file which I should have run on my pc but I had mistakenly installed it from my sd card and now it isn't going furthuer than that screen. I now can't using the Jbear exe bcuz it not recogining it.
I don't really want to keep adding my nonsense to the thread how can I PM someone for help.

do this
install 4ext recovery
enable smartflash from it
flash the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
I did all that but the phone keeps booting up with the Juoputnutbear image that point to the phone. It looks similar to when I was just rooting the phone but it just no picking up nothing but that.

that's weird
did you perform a full wipe(from recovery) before flashing the rom?
also as long as you are on S-ON use 4ext recovery to flash the rom
and before flashing the rom enable smartflash from 4ext
if you have done all the above then use a ruu.exe to return to stock condition

Well that thread seems to be a mouth full remember I'm a noob. But I will try and read that again to get what it really says. It seems though that it was a complex instruction how to get back to the stock rom? Isn't there a file for that I can download. I get to doing that RUU thing to see if it works tho

Hey guys good news
I finally got the phone to power on. I saw this thread that highlead my pro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284273 but I was really got the details from another forum. I don't know if I'm allowed to post it so I won't, but I'll sum it up.
All I need to do was flash the boot image on my current rom (get this from the zip file) and also flash the recovery image from a backup I had and presto.
But I'll go and follow you guys instruction about enabling the 4ext smart flash from now on. What I want to know though is for some custom roms (eg cyanogenmod 10.1) do I needs to be S-off to install it?
If so I'm still gonna try and S-off this here thingy. Givethanks y'all

no you are fine now
there is no problem with juopunutbear because now you have patched hboot which is unlocked
you are fine also with cwm recovery
but if you still want 4ext do only step 2 from here

Thanks i have read that post but i am just unsure into best solution.
I updated to ICS over the air through vodafone so i didnt have my phone rooted. I then came across the wifi and bluetooth problem so i thought i would unlock using HTCDEV method.
My phone is now unlocked but im unsure what to next!
My aim is to fix the wifi problem so what do i do.........
* UN UNLOCK MY PHONE THROUGH HTCDEV SO LOCKING IT BACK UP(IF THIS IS POSSIBLE) AND WAIT FOR A RELEASE THROUGH THE BETTER ROOTING METHODS FOR 1.27.0000
* PLACE A ROM ON MY UNLOCKED PHONE SO I REMOVE WIFI PROBLEM?
ANY OTHER OPTIONS.
I AM COMPLETLY NEW TO THIS BUT FAST LEARNER.
THANKS
You are not able to put another rom on you phone, as HTCdev dosent give you a complete S-off. You can however root it and put either Ext4 or Clockwork on it, and then root it.
Htc has allready put a patch out for the wifi problems, this you should get via OTA update.
For proper S-off, so that you are able to install custom roms you will have to wait untill Juopunutbear is released.

there is a new update 15mb one released by HTC itself to solve wifi issues and all..so we'll first try that or then we'll go with custom recovery method
here is the link where the update was available
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24841388&postcount=65588
its a flashable zip..so for that a custom recovery is required
have you got any custom recovery on your phone now?
(you can check it by going to boot loader(HBOOT) by pressing power + volume down button after switching off the phone)
you'll get a white screen which is HBOOT
and then choose recovery by using volume up/down buttons then press power
(just like enter) if there is an exclamatory mark with inverted triangle then you got stock recovery then you need to temporarily boot through custom recovery
first download the zip file to the root of the sd card
then
1.follow the steps from this guide to setup adb/fastboot
guide to install adb/fastboot
2.once that is setup get the recovery.img from 4EXT thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
try to get the smart flash on one...which is the one for you
3. then follow the steps from this sub heading "[ Update ] Alternative Method to Flash Boot.img for Custom Roms" (ignore the last 3 steps in the sub heading)
which is present in the earlier thread ive provided
4.flash the zip file that you've downloaded and kept in sdcard
using recovery
Hopefully the patch helped with your wifiproblem. However, if you want to go further you can install another rom, as long as it complies with the firmware, that you cannot change.
If you want to go further, you can take a look at this ( my post at the page)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298&page=35
as a supplement to TRKAAA's wonderful work
WiFi Error and Custom Roms
•S-OFF devices will not have that WiFi error . the following is for members who used htc dev to unlock bootloader instead of doing Revolutionary S-OFF .
•Unlock Bootloader using htc dev Unlock Method ( may or could void your warranty ) or Super tool ( if it is legal to use it ) and ( use htc drivers v3.0.0.7 )
•you can use a Custom Rom that uses a Custom Kernel ,and solve WiFi error ( while you still on htc dev unlock method , i.e NOT S-OFF ) by installing the Boot.img ( includes custom kernel ) bootloader
•if the Custom rom uses the Exact same version of htc Stock Kernel ,you will not have WiFi Error
•Wifi error is usually happens because of the kernel ( in your case it is because of kernel mismatch )
•in htc Method the Boot.img is still locked , Note that the Boot.img includes the Kernel
•the kernel is located inside Boot.img , and Also the kernel components ( when you install a rom ) are located in System \ lib \ modules . the Module Folder is a Kernel Folder . if there is a mismatch between kernel and kernel components you will have WiFi error
•a sample case , the Boot.img is still the htc stock Boot.img ( i.e it includes the stock htc Kernel ) , and you installed a custom Rom that includes a custom Kernel
•When the Custom rom is being installed it will not be able to replace htc Stock Boot.img ( i.e the Stock Kernel , because it is locked ) , But will be able to install kernel components System \ lib \ modules ( because it is Unlocked ) , and Here comes the kernel mismatch and the WiFi Error ( the Kernel is still the htc stock kernel , and the Kernel components are for a different custom Kernel )
I think this is what i need to do to get my wifi working again.
Only thing is i havent a clue where to start. I have unlocked through htcdev but that is as far as i have got.
were do i find the custom roms with the kernals needed to fix my wifi problem.
Please any step by step info into how to do all this and were to get downloads from would me much appreciated.
Please somebody could you tell me what to install and where to install it, these step by steps are confusing me!!!!!

New to sensation and need some help from experts ;)

so yeah you can't soff now...the other thread you've seen might be "unbricking sensation thread" that's not advisable to do until you know what you are doing.
So there is still one way for you to install custom ...i.e. HTC dev unlocked bootloader..this will give you an unlocked bootloader which is enough to get a custom Rom running on your device...but remember using HTC dev unlocked bootloader may void your warranty..and there's no way you can argue with them if in some case you require warranty as they will have phone details logged once you do unlock from HTC dev....so try it at your own risk. Also HTC dev unlock doesn't give "S-OFF" but only unlocks bootloader but still you can flash custom roms if you got this so called unlocked bootloader.
Once you got the unlocked bootloader...you can flash a recovery..preferrebly 4EXT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
Get the recovery updater apk on your sd card ...and install the apk....and then open it up and flash the latest 4EXT recovery which has smart flash on.
Remember to say "yes" when you are asked whether you are S-ON as this will enable smart flash mode.
Once you got recovery installed you can download the Rom (I guess it is ARHD as you've mentioned it) and flash it through recovery..remember to do a nandroid backup before you flash this new Rom...just to be safe in case something screwed up happens

[Q] Q: S-off, Root & Custom recovery M8 4.4.4

Hi... I just got a New HTC One m8 (outside USA), had it for 2 days and updated (don't know I took the right choice) to 4.4.4 and Now I get this annoying not verizon Sim Icon, also, tethering can't be activated, etc. I want to Install a Custom recovery so I can flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...od-enable-music-channel-crop-5-extra-t2915160
The point is... I'm kind of lost, the post says I have to Flash the file with custom recovery, while finding how to install a Custom Recovey like TWRP it says that I have to be S-off and to be S-off I was reading I need to be Root user, and to root I think I need to flash some things or be S-off... Don't remember really... I've read too much tonight... so... will somebody tell me the steps to be able to Install that file, have tethering activated and see if I can have my m8 rooted so I can unnistall the app showing that annoying Not Verizon sim card Icon... Thank you.
P.D. Remember I'm running 4.4.4... =$

For now you are stuck S-ON and not rooted till they release the new Sunshine.
Edit: In other words you cannot do anything you want as far as S-OFF, rooting, flashing custom recovery, flashing SuperSu via custom recovery ect....
