Message of unknown origin. - HTC Desire S

Hey. I received this message on my phone. Does anyone know how this could have been sent as it does not appear to be a regular sms as u can see and plus, the message is of a political nature, thing that I do not want to be a part of. I think it's from my mobile carrier and I am going to make a big scene if that's the case. Any ideas if anyone other than the cell carrier can send this type of notification?

L.E.: ok, so i did some digging around and i found this:
A Flash SMS message is a text message that you can send to an individual that stands out from the rest. Whereas a normal text message would be routed to the recipient's text message inbox, a Flash SMS will display on the screen of the recipient's mobile device. This is a great feature for when you have a text message that you want someone to read immediately.
Seems that anyone can send this type of notification using an app available on play store..

not good

As soon as I see that picture, yeah, no doubt it's just a popup notification because it says "Phone" on the window, which probably from 2 things. One from apps notification, and one from flash sms. Most of it, flash indeed.

I don't like that!

These are Operator PUSH notifications.
Can be disabled from Settings->Call->Cell Broadcast
Uncheck the "Cell Broadcast", or you can change the channels.
Generally Channel 50 is used for Location info (that used to get displayed under operator logo in older phones).
But you can disable them as we have more advanced system for getting the location (via GPS + Cell Info). :victory:
But it can also be show by some malicious apps installed.

SMS delivery report

I can't seem to get the 750 to show a message when the SMS has been delivered. If I look at the sent folder, I can see if it was delivered and at what time. I would like a visual display like I get on my other phones.
Anyone any ideas?
I have installed Salman's application but it does nothing!!!

yes, is there anything to do so its easy to find out if the sms is sent or not
I have found this to be network specific.. When I use my Vodafone sim on my Treo750, I do not get a delivery report, while if I use my 3AU usim, I do receive delivery reports..
You can see it in your Sent Items folder and the msg icon would have a little green tick to indicate a successful delivery..

Have you configured your Message Notification options?
Messaging > Options > Notification > Request SMS receipts > When delivered
The above option not available on Vodafone :-(
So is there any way to make the delivery receipt pop up like a SMS does? It's troublesome to go the sent items just to check that the SMS has been delivered after sending.
i dont think it does.. i have a nokia e61i and it does have the pop-up notice..
maybe someone has developed an app for the treo750?
SMS Delivery Receipt
I'm using an unlocked (RWE) version of the Treo with Telfort/KPN as mobile provider. I never had decent SMS deliveryreceipts on my phone. Fidled with all kind of setting-combinations with no luck. I hope this will be fixed in the upcoming WM6 upgrade...
In the mean time; I'm using Samans SMSDRFix to get an receipt. This is a handy tool that works. It has a few drawbacks although. The original setting for SMS-deliveries should be on (otherwise you'll get no DR's at all), and when it's on; you'll get a double message all the time (one popup and one 'notification' on the todayscreen) but thats better than nothing at all. The last one is that this app is not designed for 240x240px screens, but that's not effecting the functionality.

Hi, when you look to the SMS you send and klick on the Date, you have the Message delivered or waiting for. It come no Popup, but the SMS become a stamp.
That's not what I need. To much a hussle to see the stamp. And it don't work all the time(strangly). The popup should work as I saw it on other WM5 HTC devices.

[Q] Inc. SMS Name/Number inconsitency

Hi,
I have noticed that some (not all) incoming SMS display the sender's phone number instead of this name. The sender seems to be properly set up and I can not find any obvious difference.
Anyone got an idea how to always get the name on incoming SMS?
Another issue, some sender appear without their photo. In the contact list they show their photo correctly.
thx
On my device is name and number... Anyone know how to disable numbers in text messages?

This is a problem with me - come from an HD2 running American Android and that never done it, i fully expect a native device not to haha
Sender and number here.
Right try this its worked for me.
Settings-power-fast boot (uncheck it)
Turn off your phone wait a few seconds and switch it on.
Boom! Working
Must be some sort of fast boot state save or something

I also found it on my DS yet, and try to solve with cleaning the data and cache of SMS in Settings->Application->Manage->SMS.
you should have a try as my recommendation

[Q] SMS notifications on top, but message does not appear in conversation

Hey there, I hope you're doing great!
I'm creating this thread because I was wondering if the issue I am about to describe is a known bug or if it only happens with me.
The problem I am experiencing is sporadic, as I cannot determinate a specific cause for it; it sometimes happen right after reboot, and sometimes after long usage, after a call, simple idling, etc.
Of course the issue is that when I receive an SMS message from a contact, I see it pop-up at the top as a notification, but when I want to see it in the threaded conversation, it is simply not there. I can continue texting, and they continue receiving my messages properly, as do I... only by looking at the top status bar though, because other than that, the threaded conversation remains the same during the whole exchange.
My phone is not rooted, it is a brand new LG-P999 from Videotron (They call it the LG Optimus 2X here!) and it runs Froyo 2.2.2!
Thank you very much for your help, and of course, excuse me if this issue has already been looked into! Otherwise, have an awesome day!
Is it possible you are using a third-party text app? I ask because I mainly use Google Voice for my texts, but every now and then someone will text my phone number, which of course means it goes to the phone's message app. As you mentioned, you get the notification and can respond just fine. However, if I don't pay attention, and go to my Voice messages, their messages will not appear, and I have to switch to the built-in message app to see their conversations.

Thanks for your reply, but I am actually using the stock SMS app!
Hmph, started looking into the "Messages" app settings and found something called "Text messages on SIM card" and found all the messages I was "missing".
What causes this?! =O
*EDIT*
I looked on the Internet a bit but found nothing pertaining to the LG-P999/G2X. I, however, found information on the matter saying that this is usually caused by reaching the maximum capacity of SMS messages in your phone. I have about 120 messages all in all, which is certainly a very small number! I also have about 4.50GB of free space on my phone!
Thanks for the help!
This is a known issue from LG... Call the tech support and open a ticket.
Voicemail notif is causing this issue... default storage is change to simcard by the OS...

Thanks a lot, it is definitely a relief to know that this is a known bug. Do you know how we can change the default storage of the voice mail, or I need to root?
Thanks!
I just wanted to add that I successfully found a permanent workaround to this problem by installing GoSMS Pro! No more "disappearing" text messages

How to set up Google Voice?

I've tried googling the problem to no avail. In the options of Google Voice I set it to receive text messages, but no matter how many I receive it won't show them--they keep going to my generic touch wiz app. How did you guys set it up?

It really depends on how you want to receive them. I use Google Voice exclusively and I have it configured to use the Google Voice app and not the stock SMS app. How do you want to receive them?
One thing to look at:
- Log into voice.google.com from a (desktop) browser. Look for the text on the left that says "Your number" and click on your phone number.
- You should see at least two items, the first being "Google Chat" and the second being your mobile number.
- Check the "Receive text messages on this phone" box if you want to receive your Google Voice text messages via the stock messaging app on the phone. I leave this un-checked though because I prefer to use the Google Voice app.
You should also be aware that Google Voice can only receive SMS messages. It does not work with MMS messages which are typically used for sending pictures and some group messages.
And finally make sure you have notifications turned on for your Google Voice app. Maybe you are receiving them but it just isn't letting you know.
This was very helpful, thanks! When I went to that page I saw the "Google chat" thing, along with my number (it was under registered phones). However, I couldn't check "receive text messages on this phone" because that option wasn't present. It also wanted $20 to port my number; is that something you paid? I have an access number that's different from my phone number, but I guess that doesn't help. What's next? Thanks in advance!

Stupid AT&T Messages app

I got pretty excited when I saw the Messages app and read that it would sync texts to tablets, so I figured I'd give it a try. After 5 tries, it hasn't worked yet. Each time, it says "AT&T Messages setup not complete." I tap "retry," I get a text that says "This is an automated message, please ignore. (some random gibberish)," and then a red text notification that says the setup is not complete.
Is this app even worth trying to make work? I used to use Mighty Text and that would send my texts to my HP Touchpad -- sometimes.
You're better off with mighty text I used that when I had a Nexus 7. Very cool to text from the tablet. Not sure why you had issues though. My only problem was I couldn't recieve or send mms or see emojis when txting with people with iphones.
