I mistakenly bought S3 L710 for Sprint even though I am currently under Verizon 2 year plan. The price on ebay was cheaper for the sprint version and I jumped on it without double checking. I have read online that the hardware is (essentially) the same and they both have 4G LTE technology. My question is whether it's possible to activate this phone on Verizon and then flash the Verizon's software.
PS: I have been reading this forum for a bit and it appears that some other people are trying to cheat with ESN/IMEI manipulation. I am not trying to do anything of the sort, all I am trying to do is activate a Sprint version phone of S3, that I paid full price for on ebay, on Verizon network.

I want to know that too.I have sprint gs3 but i dont want sprint and waiting to flash it to Virgin Mobile but might flash to Verizon if i can use their 4g.
seeing as how the Sprint version does not have a SIM card slot (it's embedded), and all verizon LTE phones require an LTE SIM card, then no, you can't.

Oh so ever since Verizon got LTE now they got sims?So sprint is the only one that has cdma?
No, pure and simple.
If you use nefarious methods and spoof your ESN, you could get it to connect to VZW's network, but you would only have CDMA, since the LTE radios on Sprint and Verizon use completely different frequencies, and they can't be told to listen elsewhere.
Turn it back around on eBay and get (most) of your money back and put that toward the Verizon one. It's the only way it will work.

I believe so since there is a spot for a sim card. Verizon typically uses this spot for the LTE card, but I've heard that can be used as a SIM for other carriers. I'd wait for somebody to confirm what I've said before you consider it fact though.
Yes. You need to be rooted and do a few other things, but you can use it on both AT&T and T-Mobile with a bit of tinkering.

However, ther question is still up in the air as to whether the phone has hardware for WCDMA on a band other than 2100mHz. Only time will tell for that one.

I would have to say "no" on that one since it's tied to Verizon's CDMA network and they use a different set of frequencies than Cricket does which is tied to Sprint's network. The Ultra/MAXX/Mini are already factory unlocked for GSM purposes, however, so that does offer a lot more choice in terms of carriers overall, but still no chance of use with Cricket.

So then i can use this phone for the No Annual Service Contracts, for sprint? It is a verizon phone but it could be unlocked for sprint.

Sprint uses frequencies that aren't compatible with the Ultra/MAXX/Mini so now, you won't be able to use any of those devices with Sprint - that's what I just said. If you can't use it with Sprint, you can't use it with Cricket, Boost, etc. They're not compatible devices, and flashing wouldn't change that.

So Will the Ultra work on T-Mobile then? or does it only work on Verizon. The IMEI is clean, and I just want to know what i have to do to use on any other network but Verizon.. I hate Verizon..
It's as simple as what I just explained: there are two primary cellular technologies, CDMA and GSM. CDMA traditionally has never required SIM cards in their devices and is used by companies like Sprint, Verizon, Boost, Cricket (in the US) and many other cellular carriers worldwide. GSM has always required SIM cards and that's used by AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, and many other carriers in the US as well as around the world.
The Droid Ultra, the Droid MAXX, and the Droid Mini are all Verizon contracted devices but because Verizon must now provide unlocked GSM capability in the phones they sell (at least for the Droid series, that much I know for sure, but other devices like Galaxy S-series, iPhones, I cannot be 100% certain about) that means when you get a Verizon branded device you should be able to - and you can with the Ultra/MAXX/Mini - put a GSM-based SIM card in the phone and use it with any GSM-based cellular carrier anywhere in the world without having to pay anyone to "unlock" the phone for such use.
tl;dr version: Yes, you can use the Ultra with T-Mobile, you just need a T-Mobile SIM card with active service on it and you're good to go. I used my recent Droid MAXX and the Droid Mini I had with T-Mobile without any issues.
But I got sick of waiting around for a miracle that probably won't happen so I sold both of them, got a Samsung Galaxy Express last night, 20 minutes after I got home I had unlocked it for T-Mobile (using the well known unlock trick), rooted it, installed CM11 Official on it and it's been working fantastic today and pulling down close to 35Mbps with T-Mobile's LTE here in Las Vegas.
I'm a happy camper at the moment...

I've finally upgraded from my Verizon S3 and am contemplating selling it locally. What I've seen with a lot of people who buy used phones is them wanting to use them with other carriers. So, does anyone know what carriers this can be flashed to ?

I've used mine on straight talk. I've seen other people use them on AT&T and even TMobile but I never have myself

I know the safe carriers would be those that use Verizon's network:

It does have a SIM card and GSM radio so in theory it should work on ATT and TMo but I'd probably not tell people it will.

That's very true. Realistically it should work on any carrier but we all know how VZW makes it tough on nearly everyone

Hey guys im going to be pre-ordering tomorrow and want to know your thoughts on which carrier variant to go with. I have AT&T where I live but I have heard that tmobiles phone are usually easier to get bootloader unlocked, or they come pre unlock. Which one do you think is a better choice?
I'm sure the tmobile one will have all. The band's requires for att.. Or at least the main ones. If you're looking at modding, go the tmobile route. But Idk how easy it will be to get the tmobile one and have them unlock it for you. I went through hell with my s6 edge and getting them to unlock it

I am debating the same thing. Last time I got a TMOB, and paid for a 3rd party unlock which took a week. Then canceled the TMOB service before the 30 days were up.
TMOB won't unlock phones until they are on plan after two payment cycles and the phone is fully paid off.
Now TMOB unlocks via app and I understand there is a 3rd party vendor that might be able to get them unlocked, but might be troublesome. I asked my sister who is a TMOB customer if she could just outright buy the phone for me but she said under her plan they require her to surrender her old phone so I have to put it on their stupid plan.
Not sure if you can get the phone via MetroPCS as a pre-paid plan and avoid this nonsense but it seems their phone choices are severely limited.
Definitely looking for a better way to get an unlocked bootloader.
I'm in the same boat. Have an AT&T S4 and finally looking to upgrade but after the hell AT&T gave with the S4 locked bootloader I think T-mobile is the way to go. Just hope unlocking it for AT&T will be a straight forward process.
The guy that unlocked an S6 for me emailed me back that he was not sure yet if he could unlock a TMOB S7.
I believe AT&T has more bands than T-Mobile.
Will get the AT&T model as will use with prepaid carriers and AT&T supports most T-Mobile bands. T-Mobile does not support all AT&T bands.

The only bands that are missing from the 930T (t-mobile version) versus the 930A (AT&T) are bands 29 and 30 which don't appear to be used in the US at all. I found the bands on the product pages on both sites. You are better off getting the t-mobile one and hope for an unlocked bootloader. AT&T will be locked down for sure.

What I'm currently debating is preordering the AT&T S7 from Best Buy to get in on the VR and MicroSD, then just selling once an unlocked T-Mobile variant becomes available No other way to preorder a 930T without an account right?
The TMOB preorder is up. You need to subscribe to a plan to order it. It does not let you pre-order it on a post paid or prepaid plan.
I am really hesitant to preorder it since TMOB sucks and won't unlock until after 2 billing cycles. And you have to unlock it using their app verses typing in a code provided by a 3rd party unlocker after you turn the phone on when a non-TMOB sim is inserted.
Guess I'll have to wait until some unlocked ones appear on Swappa or Fleabay. Hate doing that as I was just burned with a phone that that eventually popped up with a blacklisted IMEI.
Like Flame Red said, there's no way to get the T-Mobile one without signing up for a plan but you also get a year of Netflix with the t-mobile one that's worth WAY more than the microSD from Best Buy. You can cancel the plan immediately though and hope for a third party unlocking service to unlock the phone for a fee.

So technically speaking, no matter what version ill get it will be locked to att after I put in that sim card?
I wonder if that means the bootloaders will be the same on all the models, since they are all the same except for the radio differences?
Neither for me. International versions only
As far as unlocking goes, I've been in that scene for about 6 months. If it's an app unlock, no biggie, it'll just cost about $30 more than without the app unlock. You should expect to pay about $20-50 for the unlock once the phone comes out. No sweat!
The big difference between att and tmobile is not the sim lock, but the fact that att phones come with locked bootloaders thereby severely limiting their attractiveness to the mod community.
I got an att gear s2 but I don't have att service so I wanted to know if I can use it to connect to let's say T-Mobile since its an esim.
Unfortunately this is why American carriers, at least that's what my knowledge covers, f&#king suck! Out comes this new technology that for the first time will allow people to have the potential to use any carrier with the same hardware, and then carriers like AT&T refuse to unlock them.

The esim should be universal right? Like it should work for any carriers. If so wouldn't it work if we pay for an unlock code? Even tho we wouldn't be inserting another sim, the imei would be released to be used by other carriers. Does it make sense at all? Lol
My n6 was like that. It couldn't be used by other carrier until I unlocked it and its imei was released from att to be used by others.

The problem I noticed is the fact that there are custom settings for AT&T and so even if you unlocked it, I think you would need to still flash the appropriate software. I'm just guessing though.
It's really frustrating that I've got the first big consumer device using an eSIM and I can't take advantage of it's most basic and essential feature.
Any updates on this? The AT&T watch is like half the price as T-mo and I'm interested in using AT&T watch on T-mobile if possible
