Sideways pictures when sharing, Is it a gb issue?? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Ok so I am back to using the infuse after royally bricking my Vivid This is my second infuse. I didnt like my last one because no matter what i did it would always load portrait pictures sideways in mms, facebook or any other share app. The only way around it was that I used go sms and i could rotate before sending but what a stupid hassle. Well this infuse I just got is on froyo and already rooted, and I dont seem to have the picture issue at all! So my best guess is that issue is related to gb. Just wondering if anyone has a confirmation of this. Ive done some searching but no definitive answer yet. If it is a gb thing then i will happily stay on froyo. After bricking my vivid and costing myself a few $hundred Im not in the mood to play geek now with my phone anyway. LOL

Wow...tell us how you really feel....kidding
I never had this issue with gb...the latest gb is very stable, i used Aeon custom ROM as my dd, daily driver for a ROM.
I know don't want to play geek , so the best bet is staying with a stocky gingerbread Rom...imho, if you find your self wondering, click my signature pic for the super infuse page for all the listings. There's lots of smart and great peps around here that can answer your questions. Or you can pm me...
Trolling via Tapatalk 2, on my GNote...

I'm having the same issue with my Infuse after updating to GB. With Froyo, my pictures were always right-side-up when copied to my PC, or shared via Flickr/Facebook/etc., whether I took them in landscape or portrait. Since updating to GB last week, pictures taken in portrait come out sideways - 90 degrees counter-clockwise, which is 180 degrees from "normal" landscape pictures - when I copy to my PC, and whenever I try to share via Flickr or Facebook. They DO, however, properly rotate when I share them via Instagram and MMS, and they display right-side-up in Gallery on my phone.
I've done a bunch of searching over the weekend, and don't see any solution here or anywhere else, other than stupid people saying "don't take pictures in portrait." This problem started when I got the stock GB update from AT&T through Kies, and it's still the same after trying a few different ROMs, including Saurom and Aeon (which I'm LOVING, and would have to have to get rid of). Gonna try going back to Froyo and I'll update with results soon.
EDIT: Went back to a Froyo ROM, Refuse 1.7, still had the same picture orientation issue. I let Kies update to GB again with the same results BUT I did think to try a different camera program (Camera 360) and using that seems to fix this issue. So after a week of poking around at this, I'd say the issue is with the GB stock camera app. Now if only Google would fix their My Apps list to show more than 20 pages, as I reinstall everything. Again.

It depends how you take the picture...I think if you take it portrait it goes normal but if you take it landscape then it goes side ways...could be the other way around...but I remember having that issue whenever I'd try to upload a pic to facebook...
Anyways...infuse is better then the vivid...at least when it comes to development
Edit...also may I ask what you did to hard brick your vivid?

Camera will not focus

Yesterday I notice that my camera on my Samsung Captivate will no longer focus and I can't use Shop Savvy or the Bar code scanner any more. I read someone this might be a hardware issue. I've had this phone for a little over 2 months and totally love it coming from the iphone 3gs. Problem is i need to unroot the phone and set it back from froyo 2.2 to Eclair 2.1. I've tried the one click unroot but keep getting signature failed errors. I don't want to be stuck with a phone that can't take pictures. Can anyone help please.
Are you sure your focus mode is not set to macro?
100% positive... Looking to unroot this phone now and restore to 2.1. My current build is JI6. Once I find out how to do that I'm going to call samsung and try and get a new phone.

Thanks downloading the file now. This really sucks as I love this phone. Wish the Camera things didn't happen. When working it took some great pictures.

Inspire 4G screen/display resolution problem

Hi there, today I received my HTC Inspire 4G, so I start to play with it and I notice that the screen or the resolution is very poor, I compare with my friend Inspire 4G, and his HTC the screen resolution is awesome, the colors are so nice... while mine the resolution is awful like low pixels..
Is this is a bug or something or it is a factory problem with the video card driver or something???
anyone with this screen resolution issue and can this be fixed or maybe return it to the store?
hmmm curious to see what this looks like you got any pictures by chance?
how can i take a screen shot without rooting it...
with a camera...
this is what I'm taking about
Yea it shouldn't look like that. For simplicities sake, I'd take it back and just have them replace it.

thanks a lot for your help
I mean you could go through rooting it s-off and flash the stock ruu. To see if it was just a bad flash from the factory, but honestly it would just be easier to take it back get a new one and make sure it is fully operational.

yeah, I could try it, I bought it from amazon wireless, and I'm from another country, so returning it it's gonna take long..
should I root it and try re-flashing the RUU?
Well if you root and s-off might as well flash a stock/custom rom. It might solve your problem it might not. If it doesn't you can always revert back to stock and ship it back. I recommend the Ace Hack kit. It takes a little longer then the one click, but you won't run into any trouble after doing it. Least you will know if its a a software or hard ware issue.

I already downloaded the ACe Hack kit, but dont know how where to begin...
I already make the Gold Card
Once you have the gold card made the rest is simply typing scripts in command prompt, plus a bit on the phone, provided you have adb working and your device is recognized.
Extract the contents of the hack kit and open the readme html file for the instructions.

I'm from Panama, but the phone was shipped to NY to a friend, so I can return it without problem..
Well last night I rooted it, downgrade it, flashed with the original rom, flashed to Coredroid rom, flashed to Android Revolution rom, in every rom it has the pixalation and the screen resolution problem, and unrooted it, flashed with the original rom again, and all is like new..
so it is a hardware issue.. today I'll call to amazon custom service to make the replacement..
I'll post when they replaced the phone and have it again..
thx for your help mudknot2005
ok, i called and talked to them, it's a hardware issue , so I will send it back on Monday, wait about a week and got a new phone...
I'm glad they gonna replace it..
Anytime that is what we are here for. I am guessing you turned s-off back on? If not I would do that before you ship it. To make sure all you need to do is boot into hboot, holding down volume down and power while it is restarting.
Glad to hear amazon is going to handle the issue .
I got 3 in a row with bad screens. Made me wonder if there was a bad shipment here in Pittsburgh. I wound up getting an atrix but am taking it back also. It's very buggy, I've had to do battery pulls almost daily due to the phone freezing up.
I hope your able to solve your problem. I live close to an att store so I didn't try any of the mentioned methods.
Best of luck with it.

Entire screen resolution issue
Sorry to hear everyone else is having problems, too. What led up to my issue is I tried RC Kingdom's newest ROM, and then all hell broke loose on my poor screen. And yes, I followed the youtube video on his page to make sure I installed it properly. It was sharp and crisp before I installed that ROM. I have tried everything in this thread to resolve my resolution issue, but to no avail. Tried using the stock RUU to reset back to factory. No cigar. Then I re-rooted and put my backup from nandroid on. No bueno. After that I installed CoreDroid's newest rom, RCKingdom's newest rom, and Virtuous's newest rom. Again, no luck. And I did this all from both 4ext recovery, and CWM. Attached I have provided 4 screenshots from various areas to show it's a ROM-wide issue. If anyone could help, I would <3 you forever!
If there is anything I am lacking to provide assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. I may be a noob, but I used the forum search tool, google, didn't make a new thread, and tried resetting back to stock, so please be gentle.
EDIT: I'm looking more closely at the screen, and it looks like the picture on the screen isn't filled up to the edges. Can anyone else either confirm of deny this? Thanks!
EDIT2: The edge of the picture on the screen definitely doesn't match up to the phone screen. From what I've researched on google, it could mean bad flash memory, either from time, or a bad flash. Does anyone else have ideas?

Your first sentence caught my eye. Just wanted to say this issue is very rare. Not sure if you realize this, but you responded to a 5 month old thread, where only 2 people had this problem. Haven't seen anyone mention this issue happening since then. Back in March, the Inspire was brand spanking new, so that might explain why a couple of people had the problem back then, maybe due to a few manufacturing process glitches that happens with some brand new products.
Now on to your problem. I took a look at your screen shots, and I honestly don't see any issues with your resolution. The 1st screen shot looks like you were in mid-swipe when you took it - the icon tilting effect is a normal thing when swiping between screens on a Sense 3.0 ROM using the 3D effect. The other 3 screenshots look fine. I do see a little jagginess in the scroll page indicator in your Sense dock, but I'm viewing your images on a 24" monitor and I'm willing to bet that jagginess isn't noticeable on a 4.3" screen.
One thing to keep in mind about Sense 3.0 ROMs is that a lot of stuff has been manually resized and doesn't always look its clearest. For example, I've noticed that on a lot of Sense 3.0 lockscreens the icon font looks a tad blurry. But I did notice that you said the problem happens on the stock RUU, which might indicate you've got a hardware problem that cropped up coincidentally while you were flashing ROMs.
Do your screen shots represent what you're actually seeing? Be sure to look at them on a computer monitor before answering. Regarding the issue you mentioned where your image doesn't go all the way to the edge of the screen, can you post of a picture of your phone taken with a camera? I can compare your phone's screen to mine.

[Q] OTA software update hangs

I've tried to search but I haven't seen anything about this...
I was running a leaked GB a while back, I believe it was 2.3.5, and I was having a TON of issues (phone would shut off randomly, I'd turn it back on to a once full battery completely drained). Anyway, I went back to Froyo to try and just clear everything out and start over, when I noticed that AT&T finally released GB on Infuse?! Only to take it away now that I know about it because of "glitches".
Anyway, there's an OTA update that my phone keeps trying to install... it's 19173KB (19MB?) and I hang around 21-25% every time I try to download it.
Is this Gingerbread? What is it? (I'm clear back on 2.2.1 so who knows)
Can I use the newest GB on here without having the same issues? The poor phone had sooo many problems it was saddening, which is what I'm trying to avoid.
Oh another thought, is the fact that I'm of course rooted keeping me from successfully doing an OTA update?
Its a froyo maintenance update.

Good to know
I FINALLY have a version of GB that doesn't shut off on me and drain my battery all the time...
But now, after flashing dman's UCLB3, my phone will not read an SD card at all...
I've reformatted them, used different ones... nothing. I got the whole video thing to work though, which is a plus!
Any ideas?
(I'd post this over in that thread, but I don't have 10 posts yet, so I'll just stick to my lil thread over here)

When you flash dman's uclb3, there is a change in the access of the microsd card.
flashing entropy's kernel may fix this
there is also a method to fix this in his thread...myself and others have discussed this...read the main thread..it will show you how to change it.
you can also read the first 10 pages of vagabond..there is a fix there also
Lol thanks, after I posted this and messaged you I started to look around a bit more... the first couple of searches didn't turn it up, but I'm finally finding some info on it.
the things we do to get gb working... sigh
PS - we need more mac friendly stuff! I don't like having to turn on my crazy desktop of doom.

Is my Samsung Infuse DEAD?

Hey, guys. Hoping some of you experts can help me diagnose what's wrong with my Samsung Infuse. I bought it off Craigslist at the end of May, and the guy had the phone with the original screen protector on it, with the original case and all accessories, so I had no reason to believe it had any problems. He told me the phone was already rooted & unlocked, which I wanted since I signed up with Straight Talk. I used it for June & July and had a host of problems, so I put on the CM10 ROM last week to see if it helped. It didn't. Here are the problems I continuously encounter:
1. When going to unlock my phone with a pattern, once in awhile it won't detect my finger-presses. Sometimes nothing shows up at all, sometimes one of the dots will highlight as I pass over it, but it won't draw. Eventually the screen turns off, and I turn it on and try it again. Usually it ends up working.
2. The battery dies much quicker than I expect it should. I tried running JuiceDefender and not running JuiceDefender, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Even without using my phone much for anything, even with the screen off, the battery will run out before the day is out. It's like if you were driving and had a hole in your tire... seems like some sort of a leak.
3. The cell radio seems flaky. Sometimes I won't get texts on time. A lot of the time I can't access any data, which is very important as I use Google Voice for lots of my texting, so I send a text and it won't go out. Loading web pages or reloading my email shows that it is a data problem.
Those are the primary problems, and I suspect that somehow they are all related. I'm not sure if the Craigslist guy sold me a lemon, or there is some other problem that came up. I've tried multiple ROM's and disabling every app I can think of. Can anyone think of anything that would cause these problems & any way to fix it? Or do I just own a broke phone that I have to throw in the garbage?
Thanks in advance for reading!
a whole slew of problems can lead to a whole slew of possibilities for your issues.
first, i wasnt aware that you could do any of this on a straight talk phone, but i could be wrong. i am not the "expert" you may be looking or hoping for, though one i am sure will show up.
second, i think the response you may get is......did you go to JB straight from Gingerbread??? that will cause HUGE problems.
dd you read OP and follow to a tee??? again HUUUUGGEE problems.
the "never fail" here.....READ READ READ. feel confident as to what you are doing and follow steps one at a time. UNDERSTAND steps one at a time.
first thing that never hurts.....return to stock and start from scratch.

Odin "stock-root & modded 3e rcovery.
follow all directions TO THE TTT.
if that doesnt work, you might have to get some mortar, you've got yourself a BRICK.
i know almost everyone else here is more of a expert than i am, but i do believe that is where they will tell you to start
good luck and be sure and thank the experts

While I have no idea what you're getting at by your Straight Talk comment, as ST is little more than AT&T service that's sold through a 3rd party at a discounted rate, the fact that he's using ST may be part of his problems, at least in regards to the network issues. I'm also having an unbelievable amount of data issues on ST. ST is having some network problems that are affecting a decent amount of customers who are on their AT&T network.
One thing that the OP may want to try is this: Download DNS Changer from the Play Store, and change your primary and secondary DNS to OpenDNS1 and OpenDNS2. Or try different settings, as there are a bunch that are available. That has made at least some difference with my data connectivity issues.
Based on my own experience, having tried to go to JB directly from GB, is that if it's going to affect your radio, it's likely to completely wipe out your EFS data so you won't have ANY cellular or data networking capabilities. As stated, that's simply based on how it worked out for me, and there could easily be other side-effects that just didn't happen to show up for me.
I agree with returning completely to stock UCLB3, with the GB bootloaders. Then flash Entropy's 4.4.2012 Kernel, which will also install CWM Recovery. I'd personally reccomend Heimdall, as it seems to be somewhat simpler. Detailed information on returning to stock via Heimdall can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079&highlight=heimdall+uclb3
If you use it, be sure to thank qkster for making it available. He's probably the most helpful person you're likely to find on this forum, especially where us noobs are concerned.
I would take it back to stock and start all over.
Here is a very helpful thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700416
I agree with parrot head. When issues arise go back to stock. That's the best part of our phones. They are damn near impossible to really mess up. Just have to be ware of bootloader flash going wrong. If you got your gb rom from keis your good to go though.

Appreciate the response, guys. I guess it doesn't hurt to try to start from scratch... AGAIN! It just seems like I'm putting an awful lot of hours into putting new ROM's and bootloaders on this phone. Going to be especially frustrating if I go through all the steps and it still doesn't fix my issues, which would mean my phone is broke. Oh well, guess I have little other choice.
All of the issues sound related..
It shouldn't take long to drop to stock and flash up to JB.. I've bobbled and missed steps here and there and have had to return from stock more times than I care to admit.. even rooting and flashing up the ladder only take about 20 minutes if even that..
Good luck!

Yes, the flashing process isn't that long, it's getting back my phone to all of my customized settings that ends up taking weeks. Home screen icon positioning, logging in to every app, system settings, etc.

Spent a whole day going back to stock, then CWM red, then ICS, then Jellybean. Things seem to be markedly better, but the phone still seems laggy in a few places. Is this just because it's not the latest and greatest processor?
Also, the GPS just does not work right. It's still identifying me as being in Missouri even though I'm in Nevada. Consistently. Do I just have to live with that?

Are you still using the Trebuchet Launcher that comes built-in to the JB ROM? If so, that may be part of your lag problems. I just use ADW EX launcher. Here's an excerpt from the Paranoid Android JB OP:
******* EVERYONE: If you experience a sudden lag for no reason, IT is due to Trebuchet. GOOD NEWS though... From reading the log cat on my end, there is a very simple fix... Go to settings -Launcher - Homescreen - And Check "Resize any widget" and you are good to go! Instantly fixes the lag problem that a few have been experiencing. I have located the source code that needs to be changed and this will be enabled by default on future builds. ********

As far as the GPS goes, I think Samsung just used ****ty receivers in the Infuse. My GPS isn't quite as bad as yours seems to be, but it's nowhere near as accurate or reliable as the GPS chipset in my crummy little Optimus V.

[Q] Has anybody gotten a GT-P5113 rooted with Jellybean yet?

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113 and I want Jellybean on it pretty bad. Jellybean is android 4.2, I think. Right now I have 4.0.4 and turned off OTA because I have a rooted stock ROM. My Friend has the same tablet, NOT rooted and took the latest OTA update. She still has 4.0.4 but a different kernel. Samsung is really dragging their butts about releasing Jellybean for this tablet, what is the problem?
I use Clockworkmod ROM manager to manage my ROMs, but originally rooted with Odin and a Windows 7 laptop. Does anybody actually have a GT-P5113 rooted and working on Jellybean yet or is this just a fantasy?
If so, could you please tell how you did it, source files, or at least a URL to the howto page?
Thanks.

Yeah? No kidding? Well that is better than what I got, I did a cyanogenmod through clockworkmod and it was pretty cool and all, but no jellybean. Still had 4.0.4. I messed with it for a while, but all my stuff was gone and even Titanium could not bring it back. Since the new ROM didn't do anything spectacular, I used CWM to put back my old rom and apps. I do not want to start all over again if it is not what I want.
I will go see if I can find it. If you can, give me some links to check out. Thanks! :good:

Yah, it is true, there are JB updates for this thing. All ROMs are rooted so there we go! What I found is:
[ROM][GT-P51XX][JB][4.1.2] CyanogenMod 10 official nightly builds
Now the instructions say to use the P5100 ROM but there are P5113 ROMS too. We also need Google Apps: Oh Christ, good luck figuring out which one you need.
For JB we need a CyanogenMod 10. Can be found here for P5113.
We get Android 4.1.2 and Jellybean! I did this last night from the Cyanogen mods in CWM and was not impressed, plus I did not read the instructions about using Titanium to backup only my user apps and NOT the data. NO system apps. Thus, I could not use Titanium to restore my stuff and was pretty pissed about starting all the way over and not even having JB. This is different and this I can do, besides, it is not even difficult.
I am definitely going for this but this time, I will do it right, get my apps backed up in Titanium the way it says, get the right ROM from the page I gave you the link for, and follow the instructions in the above link. I need some time for this but tomorrow I have to go and get my girl. She is close to 100 miles away and I got a roommate moving in for a few months, this will be hectic but I will get it done. Since doing this ROM will put me back to stock with all my stuff gone, I need my apps and google maps and navigator to get my baby, I restored back to my rooted Touch Wiz because everything works great. In the car, I use my Verizon Razr Maxx to get WiFi without that hot spot bill with an essential tool for rooted phones: wifi tether for root users. I turn this on, I have wifi for the tablet and can use Google Navigator on the big screen, not to mention great music and talk radio with Tune In, Pandora, or Slacker. If you got a rooted phone and a WiFi tablet, this is a Must Have app and it is totally free!
Thanks man. If anyone is interested in what happened, did it work, is it cool? Is it difficult, and do I have any tips, I will be glad to post them here, upon request. Wish me luck and thanks dude!

Yeah, that is the one I was looking at. Hey, did you backup your apps to Titanium? I never backed up "just downloaded apps without data before" and that is what I have to do or else I will be stuck trying to remember and install almost 400 apps. Did you use Titanium to restore your apps or did you just do the ROM and then do everything by hand after that? Oh, do you have a GT-P5113? Thanks!
I have a I777 ATT so I have a lot of my backups with titanium and just transfered them over to the Tab. Most of the time I just restore app and no data. Some I get them fresh from the market. Yes I am using Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 WiFi, GT-5113 same as you.

I have had this thing on my screen for days, wanting to do it, but not wanting to lose the tab if I have to pickup my girl, she lives about 75 miles away and the huge 10.1" tab screen is excellent for Google Maps and better yet, Google Navigation. It gets me right there and if I am low on cash, I can tell it to bypass tolls. The Florida Turnpike and I95 pretty much run, side by side, so either is about the same drive, but the Turnpike will cost about $7-8 each way, only two lanes, no stops but for 50 mile apart rest areas. I95 is free and has more lanes but chokes with traffic during the week at rush hour.
The rest of you guys can skip this stuff in red, it is way off topic...
This really sucks man, she is watching over her sick dad, he has black lung on oxygen all the time, Virginia and the coal mines, you know. Then he is hospitalized with a heart attack. So, she stays at his side 24/7. Sleeping on the hospital floor and all that. The other kids, many older, do not bother this much. He comes home and she sleeps in his room, on the floor, by his side, to give medicine on schedule and in case he has any sort of complication. I tell her that she is burning the candle at both ends and will not make it, come down by me, let me pamper you for two days, decompress, and feel good. We will get you a self inflating air mattress to cover your sleeping needs, plus whatever kind of girly stuff she needs. It takes her a whole day and night to start to loosen up and feel better. Now she goes into the shower, next stop, Netflix in the bed for some fun and rest. They phone rings, it her family, telling her dad needs her, he is getting worse and she is the only one who can care for him proper. She made out a detailed notebook of prescription medication, dates, times, initials, just to make sure that he is cared for proper, and the lazy ass sister iwth 6 kids and all the rest of them cannot "take care of dad" so she has to come home, NOW. *@# Dammit, there goes our "happy time"
AND the next day of rest and pampering for my baby. She is a good chick, she makes me lay down and does her thing, she won't leave unless I am "so satisfied that I won't even look at another girl" (I don't look at other women anyway, I am old fashioned and never cheat.) and right back into the car we go, to take her home and then I drive back home again. I only got like 4 hours sleep the night before and I am way too tired to make this drive but I have to. She is *****ing the entire way to let her drive, but she does not have a license so I am a bit uncomfortable with that so I have to put up with her the whole time and she is right. (She owes fines from a long time ago and we do not have the money yet to pay them all off, payment plan.) I make it there, dad seems no worse than when we left or so it seems, and I drive home. Got pretty close too but then got nailed by a State Trooper, caught me not staying in my lane and everyone is doing 65-70 MPH, do 55 and you will get run over. I show my credentials and explain that I am way tired, the entire dad/girl/sick stuff so he gives me a sobriety test. Follow the pen with your eyes only. What is your education level, high school graduate? Recite the alphabet, NO singing, from A to Z. I pass both tests with ease. He says fatigue and intoxicated appear the same to a cop so I think maybe he will give me some sort of break, only 15 miles from home now. NO. On ticket for "Fail to stay in single lane", $166 plus one for "Unlawful speed 70 Interstate", $266. $432 in fines plus points, could this day get ANY worse?!! And I am a decent guy too. Never lie, never cheat, don't steal, faithful, the whole 9 yards! I need a ticket lawyer. ...sigh.
Yeah, here is the happy couple... Pictures Attached.
So yeah, that is exactly the ROM I am looking at, you say it is good, I am up for it. I did grab a Cyanogen 9 from inside of CWM, but that was not Jellybean and then everything was gone. ClockworkMod made the entire thing fast and easy, but did not offer cyanogen 10. I restored the previous backup.
Okay, so help me out here. The download links on that page do not work, man. The Google Apps are so numerous, which one did you install for your GT-P5113? I want to do this really bad but when I tried CMK9, CWM made it real easy, backed up the current system first, did the update really fast, wiped all caches, and I was left with, not much of anything. I did install Gapps and downloaded the Titanium backujp that I paid for, wanted to put my stuff back but Titanium could not find any backups. I forgot to do the setup and tell it to look on the SD card as well as Dropbox and G Drive, I think I am supposed to restore apps only, NO DATA. Once I put my gmail account back in, my contacts and all should come back and Titanium will do the apps so this should not be that hard.
I can download the ROM and install from SD card with CWM, should be a piece of cake, but I need good links to the ROM AND Gapps. Can you help me out? I want what you got. Thanks!
[Solved] 4.2.1 installed!
I finally got Jellybean installed with the Cyanogenmod ROM 10.1. This one works good.
cm-10-20121130-EXPERIMENTAL-p5110-CODEWORKX.zip
gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip
This page tells exactly how to do it and where to get the files.
By the way, you can forget all that attach the cable to the PC stuff and just use Clockworkmod ROM manager to install this, piece of cake. Put the two files on sdcard, boot to recovery, wipe both caches, install the zip for the ROM and install the zip for gapps. Done!
Thanks everybody. Just wanted to close this thread properly.
