[ROM] VIPERrom v1.0.2 [BETA] (Froyo 2.2) UPDATED!! 11-16-2010

First and Foremost...
Thanks to evilpeople, noobnl, Whosdaman, Herver for theming, mysteryemotionz for the awesome images, and Firon for getting this out and workable.
UPDATE!!
Version 1.0.2 is HERE!! I've moved some installable files from system to sdcard so you can install and uninstall when and what you want. Open Astro File Manager and look on your sdcard for the folder "VIPERapps", that's where the files are such as ADW, ROM Manager, CarHome and more!
NOTICE!!!
These Froyo roms are BETA because the official release has not yet been made. You flash this at your own risk, and cannot hold me responsible for anything you do to your phone. You can try if you'd like, of course, but I will simply laugh at you.
I would like to give credit where due, so this rom is based off the 4.2 release found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836111). I've added quite a few changes myself, and will have changes in the changelog, along with screenshots to show you what you're working with.
But first...
A few pointers...
--MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING THIS ROM!!!!! (As you should before installing any new ROM)
--Save any apk's you'd like on your sd card before installing.
--Make sure your battery is at 100%. (Flashing kills battery fast)
--WIPE data at least 3 times to be safe. (You don't need to wipe dalvik, as CWM does this for you when you wipe)
--Choose "Install zip from sdcard", then "Choose zip from sdcard". Or something along those lines.

--Added Mini Info (Has a VERY useful widget)
--Removed Sprint Bloatware (Minus the Hotspot and TV by request from a few)
--Fixed Browser.
--Added XDA App (to keep up to date of course lol)
If you would like any of the apk's without having to download another complete rom, let me know and i will put a zip up with all i've taken out.
There is no more problem with the browser, as i have replaced it and the downloading option works. No more "Not enough space" issues.

I said AUTO ROTATE LAG. NOT AUTO ROTATE REFUSES TO WORK.
Next time you order someone to search through a thread thats a gazillion replies long, make sure you are doing it for the right reason.
I'm familiar with the sensorcalibutil, worked perfectly for getting my auto rotate back to working in 2.1.
2.2 has a horizontal calibration tool in Settings -> display which does the same thing, and did not help.

The wallpaper comes stock with the ROM? ...or are you just interested in the wallpaper and not the ROM? Lol...

I'm feeling look of the new ROM... Can't wait for DEVs to start themes rolling out, But I just loaded the newest update for this ROM and I want something DIFF for the rest, FO-SHO. But I was wondering if you can find a clear notification (pull down) bar, glass dialer, glass swype keys Or the ones we use to use on 2.1 I don't want to seem so needed, but you said we can ask... Edit to add:
Besides not having an internet browser, everything works and is in good shape. Not having a browser means Google Search doesn't search the 'net, but as soon as you install one it fixes it.
Definitely slimmed down...much, much nicer then stock. Sure beats the hell out of going through and deleting all that crap by hand.
Camera app works completely, just in case anyone was worried or was gonna go ahead and ask that question down the thread.
What Sinfamy said below about the T-Mobile name on the lockscreen is the only thing visually amiss, and the missing browser out-of-the box (which you aleady are handling) are the only two things I can see out of place.
Market works, and another browser can be gotten from there for the time being.
Stable, no problems flashing, runs great.
Makes for a great springboard to start from, and can't wait for the eventual kernel release and such to follow.
I found my ROM, lets me keep the stock camera app (which I like and have gotten used to), kills the Tmo/HTC bloat for the most part, and now i'll get much better update support then staying with the stock ROM.
Ck23, you did a good job with this and I don't really see the need to go play with any other ROMs now, this is basically what I want.
Staying tuned in for the Kernel, and the tweaks/updates that'll be following.
Gonna buy you some kool-aid, you earned it.

Looks great, can you align the carrier "T-Mobile" to the left or something so it doesn't overlap wit the notification bar?

If it's like EVERY OTHER ROM it's:
1. Download ROM
2. Reboot into Recovery
3. Perform Master Reset (wipe data/cache/system)
4. Wipe Dalvik cache under advanced
5. Choose install zip from sdcard
6. Find file and click ok
7. Let ROM installer script do its work
8. Reboot
9. Upon first boot it will take some time. Give it time for everything to get settled before you start using the phone too heavily.
Hopefully this helps. If CK wants to add anything to this, please do!

Worked on my 3rd try. I restored my original backup and followed the instructions listed above. this ROM is great. you rule CK23!

Any pics of the notification bar? Does "Tmobile" and recent apps still take up prime real estate, or is it cleaned up and minimal?

ahh right ok,
i understand about forums getting cluttered by needless threads (which is what i have done here) and will just keep this thread updated. as i have no knowledge of cooking roms this is the only way i can give something back to the forum. if it is only a copy ans paste job, as long as someone gets some use from it.

Hi mate i just downloaded this ROM, installed and try to run it, but it stopped at boot animation ;(
Wanted to give it a go, but no luck.
Please report if anyone had the same.

sadly miuitoolbox is not from miui china or miuiandroid, miuitoolbox is an app developed by miui.us team and it cant be ported

Here the effects are very slow, it is normal?

it is just the weekly update of the miui US rom which is based on sense.
@highflights,
make sure you are on the correct firmware 3.32 and i would do full wipe before flashing the rom again, then you should be good to go buddy.

it is not normal for the effects to be running slow, what effects are you talking about? what rom have you had installed before flashing this one, or are you just updating from another version of miui.............................sudeki300

Do v4 themes fully apply yet?? meaning everything: phone, sms, notification bar, framework, lockscreen, icons, etc etc..
Love miui, and non fully applied themes is whats keeping me from coming back

the V4 themes nearly work fully except status bar icons, they only work fully on the ASOP release, this is because of the change in sense file system. for instance there used to be a carrier icon in the systemui file that could easily be changed. but know the carrier is written in text on a xml file. most other bits work on V4 themes but not the best bits like status bar mods...................................sudeki300

5. No more call bug but Phone.apk is not themed
Known Bugs:
2. Joy Home have little bug - desktop icons are blured but have transparent status bar BUT Espier launcher, works without problem(and available update).
Recommendations:
- Videocam illusion app -> Working for recording videos (with stock camera app in CM7.2 is not working)
- Imo instant messanger -> Multi-client IM (skype, facebook, msn, and lot more)
- Advanced task killer -> set up auto kill (aggressive, when screen off)
- CM settings -> disable boot animation, Compcache RAM usage 26%
- Don ´t use MIUI Launcher - slow, not for our GPU
This port is very smooth, first boot can be slow, on start up can be an error message (click force close and everything will be OK)

Joy Home have little bug - desktop icons are blured but have transparent statusbar
There is a second home, works without problem.
This port is very smooth, first boot can be slow, on startup is error message (click force close and everything will be OK)

Incoming call no problem, outgoing other person cant hear you. I will happy if some developer can help me

Oh good try buddy , but i guess you may not know they're several other GB/CM7 based ROMs with this bug .. I hope all of you guys who port work as a team fix this one bugging bug !! I cant use as my daily ROM

Your girlfriend is looking nice good to see another porting but the known bug is in all the ports so please try to fix the caling issue

I am not developer android developer, but i have experience with java programing, today i will learn the structure of Android, this is first step to start fixing

I don't think it is very smart to be showing a mobile number in some of the screenshots so I think you should take the screenshots with mobile numbers off.

It is my own number, I sent SMS and call to myself. I understand your opinion if the number is not my.

Try fixing the calling problem by copying some library that start with "libphone???.so". I've ported both Sendu & Lezo and both of them don't have the call problem, but I have no idea why the user have the call bug And also wipe data as well.

I couldn't figure out what in the world was up with the camera. The developer said it worked great on the Supersonic except for the FFC. The CM9.1 I used as a base has an impeccable camera as well as 1080p! That's why I picked out a couple that have used before as add-ons to stand in until I MIGHT come up with something.
Other than that....I'm loving it myself! I'm glad you are too. Wait till she settles in...it looks like it's going to be sweet on battery usage too.:good:
As far as tracking errors go anything else will probably be related to the port. In that case it's probably going to be beyond my ameturish control. LOL

Josh's MIUI v.4 is lookin' good isn't it!? I don't blame you a bit either. I stayed on it for about 3 days myself & anyone that knows me knows that's a loooong time for me on a ROM! LMAO Now I have a good nandroid though and I revisit them all as time goes by.

Interesting....I tried a Gstore 3rd party camera app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera ) & it did the same thing...then pulled the camera.apk from the CM10.1 that is my DD ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187130 )...it also did it too
I'm going to think about this one---I really want to like it, but the camera is a deal-breaker for me....back to CM 10.1 Official.....
I'm thinking that it's something in the kernel--3 different camera apps without preview....Hmmmmm....
As for really nice----YES!!!! I ran it for a couple of hours & could only find the camera bug....

I understand how it goes man. BUT....the cameras I put in there: Camera MX & Night Camera were working like gangbusters. At least on mine. With the DoubleShot I KNOW the camera is a huge deal but those are filling in nicely for me.
It's just WAY too powerful a ROM not to put it out there just because the camera we're used to seems to be borked at the time. If you come back to it, try those. Like I said though....I know how it goes.

If you can just get used to the new camera we're not used to seeing, you'll LOVE it. The video even has an option to turn on the LED for night shooting.
That's why I put several out there though. Variety is what makes the world go around.

In my case, the main camera gives me a brief peek at the "viewfinder" image then puts up a black rectangle that covers the entire image. You can clearly see the rectangle's outline a fraction of a second before it covers all the preview area.
The other camera shortcuts just FC, or give me a combo settings screen THEN FCs when camera is chosen.
The only other negative comment I have is that I miss the JB navigation bar. One of our phones has a glitchy BACK button, and Nav Bar compensates for that. (*_-)
Other than that, everything I noticed is good--I'm blown away by this ROM! It's quick, responsive, and smooth.

Yeah....in my haste I overlooked carrying some necessary libraries over with those camera apps. You should be able to just go into the market & uninstall/reinstall them and be good to go. OR just use Root Cleaner included in the ROM & then do the Market reinstall. You can also uninstall the main Camera with Root Cleaner. My bad. The Nav Bar just wasn't available in this one & I haven't yet learned how to get it in there. Sorry Jesterfell.

This is supposed to provide a basic nav bar. It probably does not allow customizing or re-sizing.
I've also seen something like it in one of the MT4GS ROM threads. Wish I could find THAT one now.
I will be trying it, but probably not for a few days. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Don't sweat the cameras. Un-installing & re-installing is not such a big deal.

You simply need to edit your build.prop and add the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0. You can use any good editor in Android to do that, or Build.prop Editor.

Edit: Oh, BTW, it DOES add it into "Settings/System" with all the editing functions there. I just didn't put it thru it's paces is all.
