I have a stock, unrooted for now, One S and there is this app on the phone that doesn't do anything. It looks like it should, but when I hit it in the app drawer, it says that it is "not ready or unsupported" in a warning text and refuses to open. What does it do, and how do I make it work? Does it need a new SIM card to work? Because I have a blank one. They accidentally left an extra in my phone box when I got mine activated.

This is an app which relays on your operator SIM card data and does whatever the carrier programmed it to do.
So what would it do if I put a blank SIM card in?

What is blank SIM?
Just plastic no contacts?
BTW, in my ROM it's called "Fun & Info".

Just dismiss it, this is not the sim card unlock. Not sure what it is but I just press cancel.
Is it rom related??

Might be a noob reply but, have you download "Phone Info" from play store and checked your preferred network type? Get into "Phone Info" click "Device Information" and be sure that your preferred network type is "LTE/CDMA/EvDO"
Try reprovisioning your sim card, dial *2767*3855# it will wipe your internal SD card so back up anything you want before hand.

I had the same problem. I just rebooted and 4g was back
I had a similar issue I had to Odin back to stock for a fresh start
Idk if verizons having issues or not, but the other day my phone stopped using 4g all together too. Phone info says its set right, and everything seems fine. Verizon is sending me a new simcard.

I have two G3s that I swap the sim bask and forth between all the time.
All of sudden, the sim works fine in one phone but the other phone says "no sim card".
I reflashed the ROM ETC but nothing changed??
Most likely need a phone replacement. Go back to stock and try

Actually, reactivating the phone fixed it.
I'm running the latest CM and often receive an error stating that my Sim Card has been removed, and to Restart my phone to get service
Not sure if its my phone or sim card, I tried swapping my sim card in my old G1 but it said I had to put in a sim card unlock code which I don't have.
I'll upload a screen shot as soon as I can. it's annoying when the error pops up in the middle of a phone call!

Try a different rom, if you have the same problem it's the card.

Good day.
So i purchased a htc one v from the virgin mobile network.
On opening the base compartment i discovered that there was no Sim card area exposed. Instead this version is enclosed with plastic.
I would assume that if i open the device with a screwdriver that there will be a Sim card area. however i'm not sure if it would be enabled.
Secondly, I'm not sure if the virgin mobile software would accept a Sim card.
So i want to know:
1. Will the slot be there and active if i open it?
2. Will it be possible to flash the phone to a different carrier?
Plz give me a detailed response with some sources. I wanna be sure of whether or not it is possible to use this as a gsm device
