Looking for help Rooting Verizon S3 on a Mac - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just recently switched from the Galaxy Nexus which I had rooted no problem. I'm new to this Odin thing and haven't found a guide on internet on how to root using a Mac, wondering if anyone was willing to help or had any good literature on this process to pass along. Thanks!

use virtual machine program.

For mac you will likely have to use Vm as a poster above mentioned, as odin does not exist natively for mac. Either that or use bootcamp (what i ended up doing) vm seems to be hit or miss for this odin stuff with drivers and whatnot. There was a utility for older galaxy phones called heimdall which worked on mac and it would let you flash like odin on mac though it doesn't appear to support the siii.
good luck. :good:

Ok. I'll kook into those options. Thanks a lot guys I appreciate your help so early in am

Surprisingly my iMac needs SOMETHING. Normally what you say is absolutely true, but...
My Captivate and Skyrocket both have USB ADB connection issues on the Mac. I have a Droid2 and it works fine, but connecting the Captivate gives me a LOGCAT of about 1 page, then it disconnects. The Skyrocket NEVER connects.
Tried it on another identical iMac and SAME RESULTS so it's a hardware / Apple configuration issue. Go figure!
I'm searching the forums for some additional information but so far no luck!

Hard-bricked Cappy, I need help (running Linux)

My laptop is running Linux (Fedora 17) and I read somewhere there was a way to unbrick the unbrickable with a linux device. I dont remember where I read it, and I know Heimdall is incompatible with the cappy. Can somebody throw me a bone here, or possibly just a link to a walkthrough? Thanks,
Owl
It works fine with Linux... Odin on the other hand is the problem.

Well it seems my current problem is Heimdall is supported by Debian Linux, whereas Fedora is based on Red Had. I need to find a proper package (.rpm) of the 1.3.1 version. I've been warned the new one may not support the cappy.

[Q] permission denied when rooting verizon gs3 (sch-1535)

Alright, so I previously had a GS3 rooted and didn't have any problems going through the process. I am trying to root again however I keep getting a permission denied log. I have been following max lee's video how to root gs3 on mac and have googled this, cannot find a whole lot of info.
Any advice?
Thanks
This is the new method after the OTA update:

Just reread and see that you're using a mac, which I'm not familiar with any methods that work.

Is this going to be compatible with mac?
No that one is not compatible with mac. I dont know why they haven't made Odin 3.07 for mac yet! Frustrating.
It is very frustrating! Do you know any alternatives to go about this with a mac?

None on xda. You'll need someone with a Windows pc to properly root.

They did create Odin for the Mac it is called Heimdall. I just googled that as I am typing this post. It is not hard to do some research before saying that there isn't any alternatives for the Mac.

I've never recommended it because their website (or what I believe to be their website) doesn't verify that it works with GSIII:

Rooting/unlocking the vzw gs3 sch-i535 with a Macbook running lion OSX?

I have a question about my galaxy s3 sch-i535 model from Verizon Wireless. I have understood that it looks easiest to do this process via windows, and I have messaged and inquired with many ppl about the best way to complete this process using a mac. Is there a guide I can use to do this? I've used windows computers before to do this and have eooted a motorola bionic but I havent been successful in finding a guide for doing this. Any help would greatly be appreciated (I actually even searched this site or tried to at least). Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you want you can send me a email at [email protected] . Thanks again!

For one your in the wrong section my good ol fellow and 2 the rooting boot loader unlock procedure only works on windows. I too use Mac. So here is how to solve the issue. Do it from a windows PC or get VMWare or Parallels and run a virtual machine of windows on your Mac. Note windows installation disk, .IMG is not included. Good luck.

Yes, there are guides out there to root your S3 from a Mac. Can you search this site? Yes, you can. Can you search using the all mighty Google? No, you cannot. Please utilize ALL of your available, and free resources before posting.
Here's your answer; all of these links by searching "rooting S3 mac" on Google and youtube

Unfortunately you can't root with CASUAL on jelly bean. If on 4.1.1 OTA you have to use ODIN, unless they get Heimdall working.

Please help I have not been able to root sch-i535 for the life of me!

Hey guys, I have no idea what I am doing wrong here. I have a Verizon galaxy s 3 sch-i535 running on 4.3 and I cannot root the darn thing for the life of me! I have debugging mode on, so that should not be an issue. I have tried using motochopper with an old mac of mine, Framaroot, an app called Poot, and one from China thats mostly in Chinese. I have gone through tutorials for using all of these and have failed every single time. I even tried motochopper on another sch-i535 and had no luck there too. Could anyone clue me in on what I'm doing wrong?? Thanks
You are using root methods that do not work on 4.3, you need to do more research. Go use towelroot by geohot.
