Hi,
Any one noticed bad GPS reception after upgrading to latest ICS? Usually it takes Maps 2 to 3 seconds to lock to GPS, not it takes 2 minutes.
Cheers,
Abdul

GPS locks in within seconds for me and the signal is great.
Read somewhere that turning off Google location services helps with gps lock, might give it a try.

I use my GPS everyday for work. I have noticed from 2.3.6 that it takes longer to locate my position and it says "follow the route" instead of starting the directions. If I start driving it kicks in and works fine. At least it hasn't crashed on me. I had something wrong with 2.3.6, it would want me to set it to manual network time in the middle of driving somewhere. I will try those fixing and let you know.

I had the same problem and assumed it had to do with location etc and just a bad signal.. Flashed the agps fix and haven't looked back..
Now I lock within a few seconds and everything is perfect

GPS Status lets you force an update of the "almanac" data, which sort of assists the GPS in figuring out where it's at when it cold starts. The GPS satellites aren't always in the same spot, so the almanac tell the unit where to look for them at any particular data/time.
GPS on my Thunderbolt has been 100% accurate the few times I use it; but I have wifi and vzw positioning enabled, so maybe I'm getting a bit of GPS assist from those.
GPS status will also let you see exactly where the satellites are and how many you're unit is locking on to.

+1 for GPS Status ran that and i instantly locked on with 5 meters
I am noticing a trend now... Each morning the GPS wont start. I startup maps in the morning, and I get no GPS icon. (AGPS still works) When I turn GPS off, GPS won't turn on again... A reboot is required to fix the problem.
2nd phone now with this issue... starting to wonder if its related to charging all night...
I don't think it is related to charging, randomly my GPS will get stuck, either when I first try to use it, or after it has been in use for a while, the GPS icon just sits there, and it won't lock on, and I have to reboot.
Annoying to reboot when you're driving in an area where you're actually relying on the nav to be working!
I've had this issue too. I really hope they come out with an update soon. Love this phone besides the small nuances.

Weird, I don't have this problem but I do have a problem if I leave my WiFi on all night while it's charging. If I do, in the morning when I take it off the charger, the WiFi icon is gone and my 4G icon just keeps flashing every 5 seconds. It won't stop flashing and my phone will not have data until I reboot. Now I just turn off WiFi before going to bed since it doesn't happen any other time.
The easiest way to fix that is reconnect your wifi then while connected to wifi turn wifi off. Boom.

Did you guys get this GPS issue resolved with the new ROMS? I have the same problem and it doesn't seem to change if I use the stock Froyo or latest CM7.
Reboot and the GPS locks pretty quickly.

My GPS is "better" with the new baseband, but that is a highly relative term. It still takes 5 minutes or more to connect usually. The oddest thing though is when I go into GPS Status, I can see it is locked onto 7 or 8 satellites, but still doesn't have a lock, which is dumb because at least 4 should have a perfect lock. I will NEVER buy another LG phone in my life. Wish I'd have just waited for the Sensation, ugh.

My phone was from Wind Canada which has a baseband from Jun 7, 2011. If I am correct, there is no way I can even try the new T-mobile basedband that came with the GB update. LG updater says my phone is up-to-date, and I have not been able to find on the forums here a flashable file for the new baseband.
We're not sure when the Wind version of the GB update is coming. Hopefully soon, but the phone only launched here about 5 weeks ago.
Any other ideas?
I'm running stock and my GPS is incredibly slow. Using GPS Fix can never get a fix within 15 minutes. Any ideas? Should I just return the phone? I bought it at a tmobile store over a month ago. Would they even accept returns this far out?
You only have 14days to return but I would go plead a case how your not satisfied with the product

I think installing a Gingerbread build breaks the GPS.

That's when my problems started.
Hopefully the official GB update provides some fixed GPS drivers.
I noticed that it goes back and forth for me. Sometimes it locks right away, other times I have to close and reopen slash turn off and on GPS. Do remember though there are always areas that are hard for any GPS to fix a location on. I know some of them here in the twin cities.

That's what I thought...at first.
But I have 2 G2xs. One that has never been flashed, and one that was flashed to CM7 and back to stock.
Never been flashed picks up GPS everywhere, indoors, outdoors in under 5 seconds. It's perfect.
Flashed one hardly works. Sometimes never gets any GPS satellites. Other times it gets them but never locks, even with 9 or more satellites in view. Before flashing, it worked fine.
Here is a flashable fix for GPS. It will put AngryGPS into your system folder.
This is the only thing that has worked for me with every ROM I've tried.
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/GFYVVOWRB0
Reboot to recovery
Flash Zip
Reboot.
Go outside. Test GPS with an app that requires it. Give it some time to lock on.
I take no credit for this. It was sent to me by a friend. Just passing along.
Update: thanks atb1183
what black magic is this?!
wow, phone use to take 30s to a few minutes to get a lock. this and other roms
then i make a shortcut (add > shortcut > activities > angrygps> ...angrygps)
run that, click on tracking test
another 10s and i get gps lock. now all apps get gps lock almost instantly.
i can actually get gps in my work building that cant even get 3g, 4g, edge, or even voice signal without repeaters running.
I hope other devs include this sorcery in their roms as well. and somehow make it run automatically daily to ensure awesome GPS

This method will get you a lock inside in seconds with like 5 meter accuracy. You can make the shortcut using launcherpro. Other launchers may work. Thanks again atb1183!

Yes, with every thing I've ever tried it will lock but it takes 5-10 minutes. I have tried various tweeks that have been suggested with libtestmode, gps aids, and gps status. None seem to make any real difference.
When I saw this thread I just flashed the zip on top of what ever state it was in, and again I don't see a difference.
So I'm wondering if there are optimal settings needed to take advantage of this zip.

I had a semi fresh flash of octaine on my phone before flagging this, nothing special and it worked like a charm. Maybe reflashing to clear all of the other things you tried will help.

is that the cm7 gps fix from the vibrant forum? the one where you could choose no gpsd and so fourth?
Can't get navigation on my g2x to work at all. I can get a gps lock fine in google maps indoors and out but navigation just stays locked on the searching for gps prompt, even when it clearly shows it getting my location fine. For the record, im using Eaglesblood GB 2.8 on faux's 0.50 kernel and the march baseband currently, but I havent gotten it to work with any gingerbread rom ive tried.
Tried all sorts of gps apps, wiping dalvik and other things but every solution ive tried has failed. All the threads ive found on the subject haven't been helpful. Is there any fix for this?
A reboot usually fixes that for me, but for you I guess it didn't, try and reflashing the rom without wiping data.

Searched through the thread and couldn't find it. Does it work for GB though? Pretty sure ParanoidAndroid is ICS.
edit: Just tried it and so far it hasn't changed anything
same here, Maps had a Lock, The GPS icon is solid, but when navigation starts, it keeps saying "Waiting for GPS".
THIS IS NOT A GPS LOCKING ISSUE, AFAIK, please someone correct me if i'm wrong.
It appears to me that the navigation app doesn't recognize the lock. I have found that when this happens, no amount of waiting will bring joy. AND if i go back to maps, it has my location perfectly...... reboot normally fixes, but it is REALLY annoying. Hope somebody can shed some light on this.

I am having the same issues with my G2X as well, I left a ICS rom because it was too unstable and went back to GB 2.3.7 with HellFire Pheonix Rom. My GPS used to work fine awhile back so I don't why its not locating on Navigation. Where can I find a GPS zip file for GB?
