Ok I am having a problem with my Motoactv. Here is the story so far and any one with suggestions please post.
I got a motoactv last October, worked great, this device developed a loose corner, I could just about open it up and peek inside. I sent it in and they fixed it...sort of. After looking at device and trying to put the music on it that it had before it would only sync about 6gb worth of music. I reset device to factory about 5-6 times. Always the same device would only hold 6 gb of music. The back of the case was stamped with a 16gb mark, the the motoactv program showed 14 gb of space total, 6 BB used and 8 BB free. I could not even copy and paste the library of music in to it. BTW my music library that was on it origanly was 12gb including podcasts. Now at this time I tried to reformat the device using windows, when I did this the device came back showing 6gb of space. This was indicated from within the device and on windows and from within motocast software. I called Motorola and talked to Tec 2 support and the person I talked to said "we will get this fixed for you." that was 3 days ago and still nothing has been done. I should add that the tech 2 guy I talked to seemed positive that the space is still there it is just not being shown.
So my question is is there a utility that can go into the ARM v7 processor and see or fix the space.
My personal thoughts are that they put an 8 gb model into the 16gb case and shipped it to me.
At this time it works fine but I am missing 8 gb worth of space and I want it because that is what I paid for.
Thanks

So I've rooted and SD apped my G1, and have been loving every bit of it. I do have one question though about speed.
This is not really related to rooting or SD apping my phone it's more along the lines of the speed of "Home"
I often find that the more apps i move to my home screen (or your fav home app 'open home' 'ahome' etc), that going to the home app takes a long time to load.
When I only have a few icons then it's faster generally speaking. But I have about 7 folders with maybe 7-10 apps in them on avg, to keep my screen organized, but it seems that I will never get around how slow it is due to the amount of icons i have in the folders on the screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the home screen any faster while keeping my apps organized?
I was thinking along the lines of maybe a Labeling App that lets you categorize your apps...sort of like how the Market lets you search for them. Maybe this way...a reference to a label could at runtime go and pull up the apps you've labeled as such...as opposed to having physical app links in a physical folder...thus forcing the home screen to load all of your organized apps (that you're not even using at the moment)...slowing it down.
Tips & tricks welcome!

Could you provide some kind of testimony about this app?
Is there any side effect of that mod what are the concret and noticable benefits?
I have the default 2GB scandisk card in my phone, is it fast enough to do SWAP? I have no clue how crappy or neat is that card in terms of speed.
Thanks
friggin sweet! worx awesome!
man this app wont destroy your card
it'll create a file named swap on you /system/sd/
and boost you little phone it's free feel free to test
if you don"t like it disable it and restart your phone .
that's all !
nice site thanks
It WILL shorten your SD Card's lifetime significantly!
There is a limited number of reads/writes before the SD card begins to corrupt.

That might be for normal usage.
Using the disk as a swap drive IS NOT NORMAL USAGE!
And it still doesn't change the fact that there's a limit to how many times you can read and write to a flash memory chip.
I read an article about a TV company who were trying out SSDs (based on flash memory, the same tech) as a fast way of providing on-demand TV over the internet.
The drives lasted about 3 days... and that's professional drives..
I'm not saying you will burn out your card in 3 days... but you will decrease it's lifespan from maybe 2 years to 1 year or maybe 6 months.
Does it really matter micro sd cards are so cheap I got an 8GB class 6 card off newegg for $15 w/ free shipping. Just make sure you back your crap up every so often. Which you should do anyways.

Not really, except that - as you say - you should be aware of it, so that you're not suddenly left with data loss and a semi-bricked phone ;-)
Don't worry sandisk microSDHC have something like 10years life span and believe me you would change card before the swap "kill it".
After using Swapper for a few days i uninstalled it. So it's not really resolved my issue. it seems to lockup the whole phone when not in use for a few hours or so. nothing responds, and I have to pull the battery to get it to turn off. nice concept...and when it was working, it worked well. just not sure why it freezes the phone after phone inactivity.
Hey,
i screwed it up somehow. my phone doesn't work anymore.
After installing the memory card and a hard reset it stops working during the installation.
it just says:
Code:
"INSTALLING APPS
A few more applications still need to finish installing. It should just take another moment or two."
i wait 40mins before i removed the batterie.
after this i try to restore my phone with zune to the NoDo restore point.
failed with error code: 80180090
But the phone restarts normally and my phone recognizes the 16Gb card.
but it doesn't feel smooth anymore. (for example it takes a long time to start enter the settings)
i was also able to connect my phone to zune.
Zune recognizes my sd card as well but when i try to sync Musik it throws an error (C00D124D) after a few songs.
it tryed a softreset but the result is still the same.
right now it shows the
Code:
"INSTALLING APPS
A few more applications still need to finish installing. It should just take another moment or two."
again
it is a vicious circle...
any other ideas?
Greetings from germany
Joel
Newegg's comments on the microSD 32 GB cards they offer rate the cards very low in general. Appearently quality assurance on these cards, or the cards themselves, are extremely flaky. Put the card in your PC and run a stress tester on it.
As for your original 16 GB that seems to be worse, try a hard reset. When changing the cards around, that could have something to do with it.
I used the 32GB card linked in my sig. It actually came in a red package that says for mobile devices. It also appears to be the EXACT same card as the 16GB that came in the phonem only difference is the capacity.
0 issues whatsoever, seems every bit as fast as stock if not a bit faster.
I had such problem with my old 16Gb Kingston Class 2. There were no any problems with installing apps, but phone was not smooth. And there were some problems with syncing Music, it was taken a long of time, and sometimes there were problems during the process.
So, I've installed my original SD 8Gb card, made another hard reset. Now it looks smooth and sync is fast. I decided not to change card anymore, but buy mp3 player with 32 or 64 Gb of memory. Because I don't like how this phone is playing music.
I've purchased a Wintech 32 GB microSD card from Newegg and plan on installing it in this, when I get my tri-wing screw driver set. So I'll let you know how that turns out.
Until then, I've ran just about every stress test I can find against it - and it has no issues. Note: I am not going to do a full format like others are, that seem to have issues in the long run. I am going to use it as the card came.
EDIT: Don't buy the Wintech for WP7.
i managed to bring my phone back to life by simply replacing the new card (Toshiba microSD card 16GB class 4) with the original card.
But 8 GB is a mess i will try it later with another sdcard.
Did anyone could recommend a 16GB/32GB card from a retailer in germany/europe?
Joel
For the record, I had issues as well with my 32 GB upgrade.
After some research, I now see that you should not be getting the highest class card. You need to focus on random access times. The Sandisk 32 GB microSDHC really is the card to get perhaps. Still a bet.
I'm ebaying my Wintect 32 GB class 10 to some Android user. For our WP7, it's all about how quickly you can find the fragmented data - not how fast you can read the data. Think, "need to find it fast enough, or the phone will reboot".
Hey guys, I just got my first WP today, bought it used from a store at a good price as a temporary phone. The only that was said to be wrong with it was that the SD card slot doesnt work. I said thats no problem, I dont plan on using the phone long or putting much on it so the internal memory will be fine. Well, there is no internal memory. Literally. The "about" is telling me the phone has "Total Storage: 15.73 MB" I thought this was pretty bad that they wouldnt add a decent amount of internal space. After a quick research, it should have 8GB!! WHERE IS IT ALL!? Has anyone ever seen this problem or know if there is a fix? It only gives me about 7 MB to use, and after contact sync and a couple text, I gotta reset the phone to erase it all and be able to text more.
Hy!
I'm going to buy my first tablet tomorrow, so I'd like to ask few questions.
I tried few tablets with Android 4.4 and 5.1, but yesterday I saw new tablet in nearby store with Windows 10 home system, and its cheaper than similar spec Android tablets.
I can't post a link as new user, tablet is Mediacom winpad w700.
I might get 64Gb memory card for storage and some apps, but I'm worried if 1Gb of RAM is enough?
Also, I'd like to know if its possible to install windows 8.1 on it, I don't like windows 10 much (yet)?
Next tier tablet available here is Samsung galaxy tab 4, but its almost 2x price.
(1.2 quad core, 16Gb flash, 1.5 GB ram, and higher rez screen).
I don't want to pay too much for tablet, its just for some browsing and movies when I'm not near Pc.
Sorry for long msg, I'm new to this forum
Cheers!
It sounds like for what you want to do that will work fine. Does it have a sdcard slot? There are plenty of cheap tablets android or any os. Just remember the saying you get what you pay for.
Yep, it has SD card slot.
I just ordered it, it should be here tomorrow morning
One more question, I found some answers on kther forums saying to keep backup of OS on USB device, so not sure if its really necessary?
Is it possible to reset windows tablet to factory settings, just like android phone/tablet?
If not, any idea how much space is necessary for backup? I have 8 and 32Gb USB laying around, so if it can fit to 8Gb, it would be great.
Update
I really love it, it's better then I expected.
It takes long to reset to factory settings, and it took me even longer to find out charger needs to be connected for reset lol.
It supports 64gb sd card too.
I wish it had more ram, sometimes I get Low memory msg, but its because I keep 5-6 tabs open.
Pagefile can't help, cause this CPU (z3735g) support only 1Gb.
One more question:
I'm not sure if I can safely disable pagefile, since it's not usable?
Thx for help!
Unfortunately in Canada they only sell the 8 GB model and 1 GB Ram... if anyone who has it is it worth buying? How is it?
Honestly I am still happy with mine but the the 8 GB does not leave a lot of room for storage. Right now I don't have that many apps installed and I have 4GB left. That's not much but I keep all my backups on an OTG usb which helps.
Even with onlyb1 gig of RAM its pretty snappy and has never been an issue for me personally. If it were me though I think I would go with something newer given the chance. The phone is a couple years old after all.
don't be upset. 8gb enough, if u need more also u can use a portable HDD. our falcon is the only phone I got, which can deliver 4.5 volt via OTG. u don't need any xtra power to run a HDD. just direct plug and play.
