Anyone else noticed it?
Mine works perfectly fine. Make sure your animation for Window is set to x1.
I have the same problem on my Nexus S I9023. It feels weird...
same problem here i9023.. crt not work

(I9023 SLCD here, and CRT animation working 1/30 times)
i got an i9023 aswell
My used to work, now it's nothing.
the problem looks to be only on the I9023 model (which i have) like raducux mine goes once every while.i think we should be able to work on a fix,the problem is probably with "services.jar" i decompiled the "framework-res.apk" and everything looks fine there (i checked the bools) so am gonna take a look at services and will try to work on a fix for this.
i9023 here. same annoying issue
Same here. i9023.
(But sometimes I see it... just not most of the time. I hear "click" though, when screen is already off)
window animation is set at 1.

any fix pls ?

Would be super cool if someone could upload any kind of a fix for this. That's the only thing that's pissing me with 4.1.1
do you also have this bug when you updated 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 OTA via the system update (not manual flashing) ?

I always had this bug on any type of 4.1.1. SDK port, AOSP, manual upgrade in cwm from stock 4.0.4 fastboot images. I even tried that "official OTA" from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497
Now I'm on 4.1.1 which I got by installing this update:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/9ZGgDXDi.zip
CRT animation was active for a while, then just stopped working.
working on fix here (can't promise anything though ) i would be happy if someone can provide me with ICS 4.0.4 "framework" odexed or deodexed just to save me some time.as i said before the problems seems to be with services.jar which i deodexed and decompiled in order to start working with it but i still need the 4.0.4 framework to compare with.
i do this step : Stock 4.0.4->Unlock bootloader wipe data->Flash Cwm->Flash 9ZGgDXDi.zip->Boot->Lock bootloader-> After Wipe data and cache from Android Recovery and factory reset from settings .. the first time work i think but after no...
so you think everyone gets the 9ZGgDXDi.zip? Maybe google rolls out a different update for i9023 that's why I asked if anyone updated via the standard google update process.

no google usually roll the same update for i9020 and i9023 the only difference is the display the problem could be with backlight oe other related screen things, like the problem we had with 4.0.3 recovery.

istalled the ics ota 4.0.3 on my nexus s now recovery is not working anymore
what can i do
I had this problem with other ROMs as well besides the stock, but the Gallery seems to only want to display pictures from the Camera folder that were taken after that flash. Any photos from the past refuse to be catalogued by the Gallery. It's a bit annoying, but I'm glad at least the photo actually still exist in the file system. They just aren't being scanned by the Gallery properly.
Another one: I can't add custom ringtones (tried the /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones and /sdcard/Ringtones directories). Any ideas? Same issue with notification sounds.
I'm having problems on the internet using the stock browser. It takes a while for pages to load. When I scroll on long pages like message boards, part of the screen goes to a blank white, until everything catches up about 3 seconds later. It seems like the single core processor of the Nexus S isn't playing well with ICS. I kind of figured that this would be the case and regret doing the update.

I updated with OTA 4.0.3 this morning. I too am noticing that things are a little slower.
Also, my windows 7 laptop no longer recognises the phone. As a matter of fact, nothing happens at all. I turned on "USB Debugging" but that did not help. Thing is that yesterday I transferred files using the USB cable with no problem (when gingerbread was installed). This morning I update and the phone no longer shows up. It does charge though.
I haven't found a solution as yet. If anyone can help I'll be greatful.
I did a factory reset and things got a little better...my linpack test went from 6mflops to 15, but it should be mUch higher than that
I manually updated my dad's nexus s. Installed fine but it looks like the phone doesnt want to read the sim card.
I bricked my LG G2X can't get past boot screen. The little unboxing screen when you hard reset isn't unloading anything. Is there a way to get to recovery mode without a pc?

so now i know it doest for now.......so i decided to root(ok so far) and

im up to the point where i drop in the rom on extcard to install.
The problem im having is that the ROM im trying to run is

and its not working properly. When i install (about 5 tries already) all goes good till reboot. I reboot, phone "sammy text" appears 3-6 xs, then eventually i get the ICS intro with all the colors and 1sec after it appears, it freezes and theres like a "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" sound like a turbine engine like if phone was gonna blow up.
My ? is, whats going wrong? i followed the guide to the letter and did every step(as far as clearin cache etc) multiple times.
if this rom is bad (i also downloaded twice) then are there more ICS roms

OK I see your problem. Looks like the rooting guide you followed is for GB (GB is gingerbread OS) which is before ICS. And let me get you the right guide... u need to flash this first http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23105-i727ucld2/ and that is becuz the rom itself doesn't have what is called the "radio" or "modem" for it to work properly so u need to flash the ics leak that came out first and then you have to flash CWM TOUCH recovery with Odin and root... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24085665 rooting guide for ics: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24050465

Firstly, man, the devs will kill you if you say they are just skins and not full ROMS..LOL...!
The step above in your post: You should not skip that step if you are coming from Gingerbread.
You flash the leaked ICS modem first thing.
Then you wipe data etc.......although the modem is onboard the ROM.
see mhx's Full Bloat ICS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570498 FOLLOW THE STEPS AND LINKS FOR MODEM, KERNEL AND ROM in that post.
I have this running on my phone full time. I think that is that absolute safest for any newbie. Once you have ICS STOCK running, then you know you are good.

overall, i have samsung galaxy tab 8.9 and 7.1 and im wondering if i can use the tools you guys have provided on those 2 devices or if i have to go look for specific mods/upgrades for those devices seperately?

[Q] [ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root added - Infuse 4G - Arabic Support
[ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root added - Infuse 4G
I applied the above ROM to my AT&T. So far, all is working well from what I have tested: WIFI, BlueTooth, Phone and GPS. It seems to be very stabel compare to other ROMs I applied in the past.
My delimma is that I correspond in 4 different languages and arabic is one of them. When I applied the Hebrew Arabic Patch I am able to see the arabic letters connected. However when I attempt to write any arabic text, it is all disconnected.
I could not post to the forum where I found the ROM since I am new to the XDA forum. But I believe the answer to this question may help others.
Can anyone please provide me a patch to this ROM so it can allow me to write connected arabic letters? If such a pacth exists, can you please point me to it?
Thx for any help!!!
Some of the Arabic keyboards available on the Android market have settings to connect the letters. Here is a link to one that defaults to having letters disconnected, but it offers a setting to connect them.:

Hi Ishedra/ jscott30,
I currently have a Samsung Infuse 4G with the GB 2.3.6 update. I am really only interested in rooting and getting Arabic RTL support.
You mentioned using the ROM [ODIN][UCLB3] AT&T 2.3.6 Gingerbread with root.
My questions are:
Which of the options did you go with because there are 4 of them? Or does it not matter which one?
Where do you obtain a Hebrew Arabic patch that works with this ROM. It seems Arabic support is only available in certain custom ROMs. I tried searching for a general patch that works on all rooted 2.3.6 Gingerbread but couldn't find any.
Thanks in advance!

Hi dashrendar,
Here is a link to the patch that Ishedra most likely used. It should work with any rooted UCLB3 base or rom w/ CWM recovery. If you opt for one of the options from my Odin to rooted UCLB3 thread, it sounds like you would most be interested in Option D.

The Infuse is actually my wife's. I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy SII with stock ROM (2.3.6 GB).
I wanted to make sure that I can do the same patch on my wife's phone so that she is not left out.
I will definitely be following the steps you provided, but I wanted to test on my phone first. Do you recommend a similar ROM for the SGSII similar to what you did for the Infuse--basically, rooted stock software with CWM (to support the RTL patch). The goal is to be as close to stock as possible (can't afford to lose any functionality but I do welcome the ability to uninstall bloatware).
Thanks again!

Hi jscott30,
Thanks again.
I am in a bit of a dilemma. I stayed up until 4:30 AM this morning trying to resolve an issue I ran into. Sorry, I tried to post in the original thread for the stock image, but because I don't have enough posts I wasn't allowed to.
Anyway, I went with option D as you suggested. I performed the data/cache wipe in step 4 to avoid the potential boot issue. Everything else went okay.
However, after installing a bunch of applications and freezing a couple, the Phone application kept crashing. Basically, when I click on it, the screen stalls for a couple of seconds, the screen turns black with a quick all-screen white flash, then black again. Then after a couple of seconds, I see the pattern screen lock. Then I can go in again. That happened every time I clicked the Phone icon.
I performed the flash again the same way. It went fine. The first thing I checked was the Phone app, and it was working okay. However, now every time I turn on Wi-Fi or mobile network connectivity, the same crash keeps happening periodically every 10-20 seconds, which makes the phone unusable. :crying: I initially thought it was the external SD card, but I took it out and the same symptom persisted. I turned both network connections off for now and no crashes are happening.
Do you have any ideas? I thought I would post this first before I start scouring the forums in case you had any ideas.
Thanks!
I can't reproduce those issues here, so it's hard to say. Try a software factory reset by going to Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset. That may clear what is causing your issue. That package has been downloaded over 2000 times, though, and this is the first I've heard of this issue. Makes me think that something is left from a prior install. Also, do you have this issue before the Arabic patch?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Hi jscott30,
I have done the reset as you described and it goes into a loop when it boots. I tried flashing again and this time I wanted to keep track of the order of things. I mean last night I was able to download and install a bunch of apps using WiFi without problems. I think after which I installed the Arabic patch and the crash started happening.
I flashed again about 30 minutes ago following your steps to the word. After that I did the the following:
- Skipped the Setup Wizard;
- Enabled WiFi;
- Launched the browser to ensure data is being transmitted;
- I added my wife's Google Account to make sure it's not a synch issue;
- I asked her to check her GMail on both WiFi and mobile connectivity;
It seems like it's working normally so far. I will try to apply the Arabic patch to see if it's the culprit (which would be disappointing to see it affecting Wifi/Mobile Data).
By the way, I noticed that Al Hosny instructed installing something called Aries. What is that? And do I need this as well prior to the patch?
If the patch is indeed the problem? Could it be an incompatibility with this version of the CWM kernel? (Sorry for any noob questions).
Anyway, thanks for the quick response and I'll keep you updated as to what happens.
If the patch suggested ends up being culprit, I'd PM Ishedra to ask how to apply an Arabic patch. It was a guess on my part that he used the one patch, as I've not used it before. Unfortunately, English is my only fluent language.

When you were installing the app and the OS started crashing, were you trying to install apps that you had backed up previously?
Some times, certain apps restore or apps/data restore from the older OS will cause crash on the newer OS.
When this happens, I would suggest downloading the app new from your source and do not restore them from backed up source.
Not every app/data does this...but if you ran into problems, start new.
Hi qkster,
I was actually downloading and installing those apps from the market. I only backed up/restored their relevant data/settings.
I have some good news though. Before I loaded this Arabic Patch I started looking for another one. I tried and settled on this method whose source steps are in this blog. I see the Arabic text fine, the letters were all connected in GMail, Whatsapp and Facebook. I haven't tried the keyboard because my wife showed no interest.
I apologize for not trying out the previous Arabic patch in order to confirm its functionality. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time--with my wife waiting and depending on her phone and my baby daughter wanting to play with me, it's hard to find the time.
I installed the rest of the apps for my wife and everything is working solid so far.
This is good practice for when I need to do the same steps on my brother's and dad's phones. I believe my phone will be getting ICS soon (which should have built-in Arabic language support), so we'll see.
Thanks again for the great ROM and advice guys. :good:
Hi all,
I've got a euro GSM nexus s and I recently erased and re-flashed the official stock ICS over, as expected after a few minutes it decided it wanted to install the jelly bean update so I let it download, verify and then reboot the phone to install.
It showed the "unpacking" screen with the box with the arrow coming out of it and the progress bar. When the progress bar got to the end it changed to the warning screen with a triangle with an exclamation mark inside it and a little android below the triangle. It has been stuck on this screen for about 25 minutes now and I'm too scared to pull the battery because I don't want to kill the phone mid-update.
Does anyone know what this screen means or what it means for the update? Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there any way to get around this? Should I just pull the battery and see what happens?
Thanks for your time,
carkey
P.S. Here is a photo of the phone with that "warning triangle" screen:
dropbox dot com /s/6uoyyqslox6s74w/IMG_20120829_233306.jpg
EDIT: I can't post outside links yet so just go to dropbox and then the "/s/..." etc.
Thanks.
EDIT 2: I eventually breathed deeply and pulled the battery, after doing so it booted back on but into ICS and now says "Your system is currently up to date" so it seems the progress bar part of the update didn't actually do the whole update and then the warning triangle bit was what was making the whole updating process stuck.
Anyone know what the warning triangle screen is for or a way around this? Is there a jelly bean rom I can flash so I can actually have a working copy of JB?
Thanks again.

Hey, thanks for the reply but I'm not sure what you mean? Do you mean I should flash the stock recovery, bootloader and radio over and then flash the stock ICS system?
I have the stock ICS radio and bootloader the only difference is I have clockworkmod recovery on there.
Thanks,
Carkey

Why don't you flash custom rom? The stock rom is a bit slow to be honest.

The main reason is because it is my girlfriend's phone and she pretty much wants stock. If there is a pretty much stock-looking JB custom rom then I'd definitely go for that but I don't know enough about customs, the only one I know is cyanogenmod and that definitely doesn't look like stock.
Can you recommend a stock-looking JB custom rom? Or even a way of getting stock JB on without putting ICS on and then doing the update?
Thanks again for all the replies,
Carkey

What zip file did i flashed for stock ROM??
If you flashed real, pure stock(odexed), plz follow this..:
If euro version is i9023,(I don't know exact version..)
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-s/i9023/
This site might help you.
Download JRO03E from IMM76D(if you are stock rom and version is IMM76D)
Do wipe cache/dalvik cache and flash it via cwm6.0.1.0
(If you didn't modified system partition!!Just adding more system apps is ok, e.g Rooting)
Just hitting thanks button will be great

Cool thanks for the information!
I'm going to try this tonight, is there a chance she'll lost personal data? As in, will she have to go through the setup process again like it's a new phone? We had to do this for flashing ICS?
Also, is this much different than doing the update from inside Android as in when it comes up with "New firmware/software availavble [whatever it says]"? Is there any chance it will get stuck on the warning triangle again?
Thanks,
carkey

I should have a tethering fix and a flashable modem (for people on cyanogenmod) out by tomorrow
nice... anybody unlocked with the trick that wants to be the guinea pig and flash this and report if it locks it back or not?

I can confirm it works. I unlocked my phone under the previous stock ROM for use on Wind, and it remained unlocked through the upgrade. I didn't need to unlock it again.

awesome, i'll wait for the tethering fix then
I have the stock ROM, and have just applied the update to my phone. Anyone know what the flashing red box around the screen is for?
I've been using the new JB ROM for a few hours now and have found a quirk or two.
When manually adjusting the brightness, sometimes the screen takes on a blue tint. Like, things that should be a dark blue become much brighter. This goes away if I tweak the brightness back and forth a few times.
I rooted the ROM using the CWM+flashable root file from previous ROMs. It worked, though last night I kept getting "radio is requesting superuser access" until I restarted the phone. I don't know what that was about. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
The compass is STILL misconfigured. Every time you boot the phone, it needs to be recalibrated before it has any idea which way is up or north.

No idea what you mean. Got a picture?

Okay, so we may have something a little deeper here. Today I'm seeing the "radio is requesting Superuser permissions" dialog again and again. I'm unsure what this means, but as a wild-ass guess, it may be the ROM checking to see if the phone has been rooted. This could be bad for people out there who still have their warranties.
I can't seem to get a screen shot, but it's like what you'd expect the hard drive LED to do when accessing data. I've looked up different "solutions" through Google, and it seems to be a developer's mode attribute, but I turned it off. One person says to uncheck the strict mode setting, which hasn't worked.
Well, whatever it was, it's done doing its thing now. As the day went on, the red flashing border appeared with less frequency. Throughout this morning I didn't experience it at all. Maybe it was some type of optimization thing going on?
Tethering
So Jax184 are you tethering on the JB ROM on Wind somehow or are you waiting for the tethering fix like Braccoz? I am on Wind as well and want to keep running the JB ROM but need to be able to tether on pretty much a constant basis.

Thanks - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something - guess that means I'm going back down to LJ1 until we get tethering!
---------- Post added at 09:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:30 PM ----------
Now I'm in trouble - I got distracted while trying to go back to LJ1 and ended up applying the LJ1 tethering fix to the JB ROM. Phone rebooted and got stuck on the screen with SAMSUNG with the pulsating blue background and just wouldn't go further. Got back in through ODIN and flashed back down to the LJ1 ROM but again when the phone reboots it is still stuck on the same screen. Did I just brick it? Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get back up and running on *ANY* ROM?
Alright so it turns out that I didn't screw it up - the problem is that I just can't seem to downgrade. If I clear the cache in recovery and then flash the BMC5 (ie JB) image the phone will come back up running 4.1.2. However when I clear the cache and flash any other image (LJ1, LH1, etc) the phone just gets stuck on the SAMSUNG screen (and I've left it sit there for as long as 10 minutes to make sure it isn't actually doing anything).
The only reason to downgrade though for me is that I need to tether. Hence faced with this problem I started going through all the Wifi Tether apps (that I tried before the tethering patch was out for the previous versions and none worked) and discovered the FoxFi works. It seems to override the T-Mobile tethering restriction in that when it is active the normal Mobile Hotspot icon appears (as well as the FoxFi icon) in the notification bar and when you pull it up it shows as On with the devices connected listed. Using FoxFi isn't as elegant as just using the built-in software hence I'll hobble along with the new image and FoxFi but still hopes that someone is kind enough and smart enough to figure out a tethering fix for this image.
Anyone got any comments or suggestions?
Does anyone have the OTA update from TMO? I was going to make a flashable stock jelly bean rom, and the updater script is useful.
If you received the update and didn't apply it, it should be in the cache partition. PM me if you need help pulling it out.

That is the full rom, I was looking for the actual OTA update because I wanted to look at the updater-script.

You need to wipe everything, data, system, cache in order to downgrade from JB to ICS. Also wifi is likely to be broken due to the new JB over writing the persist partition. Someone who is still on ICS and who is rooted should probably keep a copy of that.
I'm having some gps issues and radio is requesting superuser access. This is on rooted, debloated jb with the jb radio.
Let me know if you need logs, data, or want me to flash something.

JB downgrade to ICS + GPS
Thanks for the info Nardholio! I guess that means I'm staying at JB then. Overall I'm happy with it and having no problems perse. However to address your specific comment about GPS, although I haven't had any issues with it I have noticed that it has taken up to 5 minutes to fully sync and get a position lock now. I hadn't attributed that to the upgrade necessarily though as this happens from time to time as being way up here in Calgary Alberta sometimes satellites aren't as easily visible as they could be and this happens occassionally with all of my GPS receivers. My old G2 used to have quite a lot of problems that way. Haven't noticed anything about root requests though as Gee One indicated.

does making a cwm backup cover that, and all other stuff needed too?
