I'm running the July 2011 baseband right now with Eaglesblood ICS and I want to update to the March 2012 baseband. Just to review the steps before I actually proceed to doing it.
From my understanding and research so far, first, I need to restore my phone to a stock version, then update it via LG update tool, then root it, then install clockworkmod and then I could install the ROM I want, is this wrong?
Nope, that seems correct, that's how I did it.

So, just to be completely clear... the Recovery needs to be back to stock before using the LG update tool as well?

From all the threads in general, it would seem the update does unroot your phone. Also from those threads it would seem flashing a custom recovery and, subsequently, the su zip will give you root back. I don't know of a pre-rooted version out yet.
i just upgraded to ics a little while ago using rom manager, i had to go back to stock 2.3.3 which unrooted my phone but did not lock the phone . I was wondering the same thing and that is how the heck do i root my phone now lol. my phone still shows the unlocked lock on the boot up screen under "Google" but i dont have SU permissions anymore. if I still have su.zip file and cwm can i just use fastboot and flash the img and su.zip ?
What if I don't have my original files to roll back to stock GB? I just downloaded the version Koush put up on his twitter...will that allow me to flash in CWM and update?

Download stock images from from manager then update to 2.3.6 then you can flash the one from koush's twitter.
Root will be lost after update. Currently flashing su.zip wont work. Still trying to figure it out.

We might just have to re*root when they release the info.

Let me ask you also, I'm currently running Alpha13 w/ Francisco.Franco kernel. Is the official that much smoother that I should lose my root?

Hi,
I recently flash CyanogenMod 7.2.0 on my new phone, freshly rooted, and I've put Clockwork Recovery with NvFlash. But when a call someone, the cal is made, the other person answer, but I can't hear him and he can't hear me.
I'm with the LG-P999 (I prefer the number because my carrier says that it's a Optimus 2X)...

PS: For everything else, I LOVE CYANOGENMOD!

videotrons basebands are different than the norms. But i guess you need to be on march 2012 or July 2011 baseband

As the previous posters stated, you are on older baseband. The latest cm7 requires the latest baseband. So either update your baseband using one of the method (there are many threads about the new March 2012 baseband) or make a backup in cwm and simply flash Volk's flashable zip to get calls to work.
I assume his fix should even work work your videotron baseband a well.
His thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714536
You'll need to flash the "for_oldBB.zip"

If I update my baseband, can i have connection problem with Vidéotron (My carrier)...
Or flashing the CM7 with the Volk's zip is the same method than with the google apps?

Well, according to people on the new baseband, they have better signal, improved GPS lock, etc. I'm not too sure whether it would apply to Vidéotron or not. However, you have the very same handset as the t-mobile version, so I assume it worth to upgrade. Keep in mind that the new cm7.2 stable has Bluetooth phone audio issues.
As for flashing Volk's zip, you go to cwm recovery, backup your ROM just in case, then flash the zip file.

You're not going to have any problems with Videotron. Trust me, I'm from Canada too.
EDIT: realized you got it already. Good job!
@ DupleX01 : Thank you! Worked like a charm and got Simple Mobile service working without any APN changes either. Cool!!!
I want the new baseband for the improvements.

No, you have to go back to stock to update BB unfortunately. This is what I did, worked perfect.

So revert to stock and then download new baseband, then I can just restore what I have now?

Ya, you have to re nvflash CWM recovery again tho because when you update you lose root. And you might need to flash the BB fix in owains thread for calling to work properly, or else you just hear a popping noise on a call. Just flash it right after you restore your backup.
Hello I have gingerbread, but I bought it used and the guy had it rooted. So now the phone is always trying to update to ics but it can't because its rooted. All these popup messages are getting really annoying. So I just want to either update to ics or get a custom rom. Idk which one is better and I have no idea how to do either. Please help, thanks.
You should get rommanager and flash cwm recovery. Then donwload a ota that can be flashed with cwm and flash it. After that download the superuser zip to gain root again, flash it and you are set.
Good luck.

Yes it will wipe everything (apps, data) but NOT your sd card. If you have titanium Backup use that, I but I'm guessing you don't. The OP does say that it will wipe your phone also.

Just to be clear, if your gs3 has the official 4.3 on it, you CANNOT unlock the bootloader. You WILL brick your phone if you try.
Safer not to mess with it at this point imho

I definitely appreciate but cyanogrnmod is why I bought the phone. .. I'd there a way to possibly uninstall the update in that case or would I pay much have to wait till cyanogenmod comes or with something to get around Knox? Truthfully a good reputable stock android feel Rom installer would be nice but I'm super noob status when it comes to this and would appreciate any assistance

Nothing you can do right now as far as custom rom. Currently a few folks are working on a patch for safestrap in order to flash custom rom (currently only able to flash custom TW rom). You can follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618887 to see the status.

I have just received a replacement phone. I have gone about the ways I rooted previously and none of them are working. This did NOT come with 4.3 from the factory, and the 4.3 update is not installed. I reverted back to stock from android recovery, so 4.0.4 is on there right now. But no matter what I do, whether it's the one click method, the GS3 toolkit format, or manually trying to gain root through recovery, nothing works. On the "downloading" screen that you need during use of ODIN, it says "SECURE CHECK FAIL", and it'll either have "boot" after it, or "kernel". Anyone have any ideas? As of this moment I have no working phone. Looking for some help asap. Thank you guys.

Try to Odin flash factory 4.1.2 and see if the secure check turn to "enabled". If it's then try to root again.
I just Odin flashed a stock 4.1.2 ROM actually. It's booting up normally now. It honestly seems like they added a layer of protection on the newly distributed handsets. I will try to go through the normal 1 click method again and see if that works. How would I check if the secure check is still enabled?
Actually, no, it's still 4.0.4 but I'm going to try the same thing just with a different 1 click method.
Looks like the really old way worked. With the ez-unlock and ez-recovery. I had to completely demolish what was there when it was sent to me, though. So anyone who gets a replacement, the best bet is to flash a fresh 4.1.2 ROM or 4.0.4 ROM immediately, boot back up and go from there.
