[Q] Wait to buy? - Asus Transformer TF700

I am going to be buying this through Best Buy soon I am sure this is going to be the best Tab for awhile... But i was wondering if I should wait to buy it because of the I/O issues incase they ship a new model or something? or can all the I/O issues be fixed though software updates?
Thanks in advance!!

[Q] Any reason not to update firmware?

Aquired a cheap touchpad today & was wondering if there is any reason not to update the software on it from HP? I mean its not gonna stop me from changing the Os in future or anything like that is it?
Apologies for probably stupid question..... But I'm thick
Many thanks
Hutch
No, it's really just a bug fix update. changes none of the core functionality or access to the developer mode. Go ahead and script the update
SENT FROM MY DINC2
Good to hear, i have just picked one up from Argos today, reserved it as soon as i heard prices were coming down and then extended my reservation until the end of the month.
Price came down to £115 for the 32gb today so i collected my order

[q] to keep or not to keep infuse?

Please excuse my girlie-ness
Ok here is my dilemma. I just got this phone not realizing the galaxy s2 would be coming out soon. Wasn't thinking...silly me.
Now i have until september 14 to exchange it with best buy if the s2 happens to come out in time and the buy back with best buy.
My problem is that I have no idea if the ATT version of the s2 is even going to be worth it. I hear the battery isn't going to be as large and that they're changing some things.
Should I return this infuse completely and just go buy the euro version from ebay? Should I wait even longer for this s2 Plus I've heard of here and there? (does that actually exist?)
Should I just say eff it and wait another 6 months for my next discounted upgrade and go with whatever is newest then before my 300$ buyback expires?
I want the super crazy fast dual core and the gig of ram....and the overall awesomeness of what I've heard with the s2

Well the window of release per documents on the web is between now and october 2nd.
I have had the chance to play with one....it is awesome...and no, they did not change much.
Is it worth using the buyback.. i dont think so...there are better phones that will release in q4
Is it worth returning the infuse...i say yes...as long as you don't mind patin $100-150 more for the SGS2 when it does finally release.
I have had sources tell me this weekend...next weekend.. and Oct 2nd ..the roadmap says q3 so it honestly could be anytime in September

Thanks! Just realized i can't return it completely bc i won't have a phone...forgot my iPhone sold on ebay.
do you happen to know what they've actually changed?

If the Infuse isn't enough for you, trade it back in. I was in the same boat, but I've noticed nothing where the infuse isn't fast enough for me.
The Galaxy S3 is coming out next year anyway, or another 'super phone'. You might as well wait until ICS drops if you are that worried about future-proofing your phone.
I thought about the same thing...return my Infuse for the SGS2 or hang onto it. I decided to hang onto mine because the 4.5" screen has won me over. The power is perfectly sufficient for me and the style and shape are just right. I also am blown away by the extraordinary sound quality of my Infuse. It's at least on par with my Cowon D2 and iPod Nano 3G, both of which use a Wolfson audio chip.
There's so much to like about the Infuse that I just don't care about the SGS2 enough to give it up. My Infuse is satisfying me perfectly as it is...well...with the expectation of the coming Gingerbread update that I hope will fix some serious issues.
Whether you keep your Infuse or not is really a matter of personal taste. I find my Infuse to be so endearing that I can't part with it.
appreciate your answers! Thank you.
I guess I just don't want to go and switch it for the s2 (if it comes out in time for my swap thing to still be good) and then be stuck with it and not like it as much.
I do love the screen. for sure. and the battery life is amazing for something with a screen this big....its not too slow thats for sure...but the sound was way way too low for me so i have galaxy tuner and its a little better but i can't find a good set up for the app so that it sounds good and loud at the same time. it gets real tinny sounding.
I also hate that the media hub can't connect with hdmi....has anyone found a work around for that yet? Google and forum search has failed me so far.
Also my camera seems to be kinda grainy and the videos i upload to my youtube channel are always off synced with sound.

[Q] When/If To Buy

So here's the deal, i just recently graduated high school and am moving to the UK to continue my education. I have been looking into tablets for a while and have finally decided to get one to aid in that endeavor and i feel that the infinity tab is my best option.
Now my question is, should i buy one before i fly out on the 24th or july? or wait to buy one when i get there? could i even get it in time? or should i just wait for the nexus 10?
let me know what you guys think, thanks in advance.
Personally I would want a tablet for playing with while traveling

Buy before you leave. Good chance it will be more expensive in the UK.
Sent from my De-Sensed HTC Vivid using XDA Premium App
Where exactly are you moving from? If the US, it will almost certainly be significantly cheaper to buy here and not the UK. When you add in VAT/Duty/Etc, it will probably be hundreds of USD more expensive over there.
Buy in the US before you depart, but keep in mind that US supply will probably be tight. So you may wind up having to buy in the UK if you cannot source an Infinity regardless.
agreed
yeah i was thinking it would be cheaper here, plus i was hoping to load it up with movies for the plane ride.
so if i were to preorder it with somthing like next day or 2 day shipping, you guys think ill get it in time?

No one here is going to be able to answer that question with an accurate response.
They are scheduled to go on sale the WEEK OF July 16th. That could mean anything up until 7/22. But that is subject to change with no notice. And even if it does "go on sale" by 7/16, who knows when whatever retailer you pick will actually have them. Then they need to process them and ship them out, plus transit time.
Also, keep in mind that J&R just removed the Infinity from their website, you can't order it through them anymore. AFAIK, they were the only retailer in the US to have pre-orders. I assume that they maxed out their incoming inventory, so stopped taking more. So even if you wanted to buy it now, you would have to find another US store that has them.
All in all, I would say that if you need it by 7/24, you could probably get one in time. But unless someone here as some guaranteed insider information, you still better be crossing your fingers. Worst case scenario, you could always cancel your order if it doesn't look like it will meet the deadline to be shipped.
Yeah, i dont really want to risk it, will the nexus 7 get to me on time? im beggining to think i should buy the nexus 7 and then the nexus 10 when it comes out. itll add up to about the same price i think.

"2-3 Weeks" on the Nexus 7. Same boat. In fact, it may even take longer.

Just order it. If it's not on time you cancel the order and buy in the UK.

[Q] replacing tf700... to what?

hey guys... im a frequent reader (not poster) of the forums and have a simple question. my mom broke my tf700 so i sent it in to squaretrade and the are reimbursing me $499.99 bc they can not fix it (first time using squaretrade and im very happy i insured it through them).
What should i replace it with? i loved the tf700 but i cant see myself spending $400ish on a devices thats a year and a half old.
i was thinking of the kindle fire hdx 8.9 bc that seems like the best bang for your buck at the moment. It has the newest and best hardware out and is getting great reviews. the only problem with the hdx is that the bootloader isnt unlocked and who knows if it will eventually be (i have faith but i dont wanna drop $400 soley on faith). if i get the hdx it is a must that it would have to be on a custom rom as i cant stand the mojito rom amazon uses.
i was also thinking nexus 10 but the same problem as the tf700 comes into play... $400ish for a year old device. it would be a big disapointment to buy it and have the nexus 10.2 come out next month at CES. i understand that tech is always gettin better and ill always be waiting for the next upgrade and yada yada yada but a year old tablet at $400 is a little pushing it. The upside is that the device wouldnt need to be unlocked as it has the best rom on it (stock kitkat).
so pretty much my question is what would you buy if you were on the market for a tablet today???
anyway thanks for your help and thanks for all your past help throughout the 16 months i have had the tf700.
PS- what is you guys opinions on 7" tablets?? i think 10" is where the swet spot is but if you guys can persuade me otherwise.
I'm waiting for the new Nexus 10, it should hopefully be out any day now. No idea on specs or even a date really, but that's what I'm waiting for. I hate the fact that they dont usually have the option of using a memory card with the Nexus range, but I might be able to deal with that if the rest is good. The TF700 has been a huge disapointment, and waiting and praying for a company to release the latest android version is the dealbreaker for me. If I was to buy something now, I would consider the Sony Z, possible the Galaxy Note 10.1, or the TF701.

[Q] Brand new note 2012 or refurbished 2014?

Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.

If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.

So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

Refurbished = Someone did not like it and took it back, or worse they took back caused it had a problem and the repair people turned it on and it booted, ha it works, resell it.
Refu
I bought a 2012 refurb a year ago
.......no problems
$300 for a 2012 is high in today's market.
You can find new 2012 on-line for less than that.
enjoy

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.
