another phones theme? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

i was just wondering if i could use a theme that was made for another phone, on this phone?

I wouldn't suggest it....different phones have different system folder setups not to mention the different framework-res.apk and twframework files.
If you don't have problem with Odin and love trying things like me....go for it lol.
I use to do that sort of trial and error stuff on my vibrant but since then I had learned uot kitchen and photoshop

I've been wanting to learn how to theme the phone myself. I'm good with photoshop. There are very few themes out there that theme the majority of our device. None of the themes for Go, ADW, etc I've d/led have had a skin I could use.

I would suggest you head on over to uot kitchen and read up on their tutorial.
Also somewhere here someone wrote up a more comprehensive tutorial
But keep in mind it's more for froyo and gingerbread roms

I thought UOT only worked on froyo and gb.

And cm7
The op didnt specify what rom he's on and unless I followed the both of you around....I don't know what rom your on either....but I did say "its more for froyo and gingerbread" in my previous post.

Thanks for the heads up. There's this Umbrella Corporation theme I saw on the "LG Esteem" forum, it looked freakin' sick

[Q] Awesome evo theme confirmed on one incredible rom, boot loops on uncommon sense

I saw this today while browsing through the forums and wow do I want this! I installed it and it booted up, and started to run. It looked so amazing! But out of nowhere it went into an endless boot loop. So sad! I'm running uncommon sense V1.1. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Works on Lou's R-EVO-lution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799679) rom as well. I used the R-EVO-lution rom and mounted the theme, and it ran fine and is actually quite beautiful, but it ends up messing up the internal mounting, which is a bummer.
I don't think it's possible to load the way it is. A dev would have to port it (I'm guessing) or you'd have to switch roms.
Crap. Thank you for the insight. If there's any dev that would want to try to port this to uncommon, that would be sweet...

This is an EVO Theme for EVO Rom's that is why you are having an issue. The framework-res, com.htc.resources, rosie, vending apk's are different than on the DINC. You would have to have someone port it over to the DINC to get it to work correctly.
***Edit*** So apprently the only DINC ROM that it will work on is FrankenRom http://adrynalyne.us/
It works on hey its lou new rom as well

What little tool?
There is a tool on AndroidForums made by a guy called Androizd that ports and converts everything over. He is a really good DEV but had some problems with some people in the ERIS sectino so he no longer post on XDA, If you want to try and port themes I know it worked really well on my old ERIS.
Actually I got it here at XDA. I know what tool your talking about with the Eris, I used to own one.
What tool are you referring to? Do you have a link?
I will see if I can find the original thread so I can give the original creator credit. If not I will post it here for download.

So I used it and it works well. Only issue is...if the ROM does not use the .9.png files and the Theme does then you are out of luck. In this intance the Ucommon ROM does not use .9.png files and this theme does so the theme will not work with Uncommon ROM. SkyRaider does not use .9.png files either.

His name is Tom, he's being silly.
No one here has created a kitchen, and so far none of the devs have any interest in creating one. Kitchens lead to ROM creators who have no understanding of how their devices work, and this is a bad thing.
I suggest that you try to find MikeyMike's ROM authoring guide, I think it's somewhere in the Captivate forums. There are a bunch of other guides too.
I suggest starting small - learn about theming and deodexing, then try to perform some small mods (e.g. modifying an existing ROM with a small CWM-flashable mod), then think about full ROMs after you've learned the smaller stuff.
Yes it was a joke, sorry for the confusion lol

TMobile Theme Chooser

UPDATE: Doesn't work, but maybe it could be made to work? See last posts.
I just have a question about installing the theme chooser on any rooted and deoxed ROM. Is it possible? I'm running one of jboxers roms. I saw one thread here at xda about it but the guy was asking about sense roms.
It can be installed on any ROM based off of the CM7 source. (I think it can at least, I've never tried it on MIUI but you don't need it there)

What needs to be changed in the rom? Is it edits to the framework? If I can do it, it would be an interesting project to try.
It would be cool to see a stockish ROM with that kind if theme support. I did read elsewhere it needs some frameworks found in cm7.

Try to push it to a stock room with adb. It will fail, and somewhere it will say why. Fix the why.
I haven't got the slightest idea as to what exactly the theme chooser relies on.

Search Google for "T-Mobile Theme Chooser." It was code written by T-Mobile for their phones. That is what CM7 and others use to implement this feature. It requires the framework to be decompiled and recompiled with support code for the theme chooser. It is just not installing a program. it is very technical and not easy to do.

Tried Install
So I gave it a shot and this is what I end up with. I'll google around to see what this means, if it means anything more than its face value might suggest.
pkg: /data/local/tmp/ThemeChooser.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]
Edit: Looked around some more and found this thread on the error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640592&page=54
To quote Brut.all there "I think "INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE" is straightforward: Android refuses to install apk with UID if it has different certs than already installed app."
and Daneshm90 "Yup so u got 2 options,
1. Find all the apks that have the same uid and resign them with the same keys
2. Remove the uid from the manifest and hope it works"
I am not sure exactly where to go from here. Is there a tool that would let me open up the APK and see the UID?

would it be possible to insert only those specific entries to the framework and make this work? its really the only reaon anymore i prefer to use a rom, considering 2.3.3 has fixed many of the bugs that originally made me switch.

In theory yes, but if you were good enough at ROM development to be able to do so, you wouldn't be asking these questions. Even if you want to learn, start with something easier.

well it just so happens that i have the p500 factory 2.3.3 flashed on my p509 now right now, since they dont have an official tmo version yet. but it is european based, so what im wondering is, would that already be incorporated into the "ROM" inces its european, or maybe not conidering the p500 isnt a t-mobile phone, and both prerequisites arent met, 1. european firmware, and 2. t-mobile branded
what do yall think??

Questions need to be asked in the Q&A section. Third link in my signature will tell you the procedure for pushing apps. You can try it and see if it works.
Actually since it is a app made for a different phone it would have to be decompiled and recompiled for your phone.

If you wanna get technical he is asking how to get it to work period. That means DnickDominic is more correct. However it wont work until its "ported" for the sgsg. I guess using the term decompile and recompile are too hard to understand.
lol.
@eolli: i understand what the hell is decompile and recompile.
im pointing the question did you understand what are you saying bro?
decompiling and recompiling doesn't make the app compatible with any phones.
porting app requires you decompile the app, change some codes and n the smali folder, recompile, zip align for usage efficiency.(yes, i know a lot of stuff about porting)
NOT JUST RECOMPILE AND DECOMPILE
DON'T TAKE THIS AS AN OFFENSE BRO
Jules typically when talking about getting a app to work you would do as I stated and the people that would be doing this know what I was talking about. I didn't use the term port for a reason, and your response was exactly why.
Now regarding me taking offense...why are you telling for me to not take offense? You don't want me to take offense but you tell this statement at me.
Vroom Vroom
recompiling and decompiling the apk doesn't make tha apk compatible for sgs4g. lol it like you want coke, so you open a bottle and close it so i will become a Pepsi.
you need certain step to follow in order to make it compatible in other phones
so that's why i used the word porting.
btw how much experience do you have about recompiling apk and modding?
I bet you don't even know how to decompile an apk

If you're really serious about taking apart the S3 rom get ahold of dsixda's kitchen and learn how to use it. It'll let you do most of what you need such as extracting system apps from ext4 image, deodexing apks, etc.
The learning curve is steep, and Google is your friend. It's all been done before and documented in various xda threads, just search them out. And good luck.
