Root Broken Power Google Nexus S ICS 4.0.4 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have Google Nexus S with ICS 4.0.4 and my power button stopped working all of a sudden.
i want to root my nexus s.
I read lot of forums, tried lot of stuffs but unable to do it.
the problem is my device is not recognized in fastboot mode neither in window-xp or windows 8.
currently i was following the below thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655377
Please somebody help me to fix the issue.
regards
Sid

Did you try installing HTC sync to fix the fastboot drivers (its a weird but well documented fix, something about the HTC sync drivers makes windows recognize android phones)?

No i din try that.
Mine is Samsung Google nexus s.
So why to install HTC drivers?

Because it might get it recognized. I have a nexus s and had to do the same.

I installed HTC syn. But still my device is not recognized in fastboot.

can some1 help me fixing the issue please...

Again this crappy button failed :-(
check this thread, it might help u
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524858

it din worked for me.
i went through http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=1379875&page=10
but that also din worked.
I tried with heimdall, it too din worked.
My mobile is not getting recognized in bootloader mode. Not even in the list of device manager.
Please advice wat to do next. Is it like it ont work at all?/

USB Problem on my Inspire 4g( Please help!!)

Hi, all
I got a new inspire 4g last week. It was working fine. But now it does not detect the USB connection. It only charges when I connect to pc. No other issues. I have also noticed that during fast boot mode also pc does not detect the phone as a device. I have tried all the suggestion on xda but no luck.
Please help me to solve this issue. I have seen a lot of thread discussing this issue on HTC Desire. They all suggest to format mtd0 in fastboot mode .But during fastboot mode also my phone is not detected by PC (tried both on linux and win7. Other phones are working on the same pc) , So I could not format mtd0 and reconfigure it.
Can anybody have any other idea? If I change the main board how much cost will incur ??
Thanks all.
EDIT:
I have full access to recovery. Currenlty Clockwork mod 5.0.2 is installed . I can install custom rom without any problem.

Thanks for your reply. But there is no issue with driver because my phone does not detect the usb connection as well as the pc also does not detect the phone as a device ( in device manager in windows or in demesg in linux).
Please help..
Edit:
Today I have tested with another Inspire 4g (My friend is having one inspire 4g) with my pc. It is detected by my pc ( both in linux and windows). Fastboot as well as adb worked like charm. But my inspire is not detected by the same PC..
I have the same problem with my Inspire and yet to find the answer. Have tried everything i could find on the internet except a factory reset. If i cant fix it, will trade off for a Galaxy sii i guess.
I had the same issue a while back. Believe it or not, the USB cable just up and flaked out on me. I bought a new cable and it worked fine afterwards. Of course that was my last thing to check, but I had the cable for about 6 months. I travel a lot, so I think wear and tear got the best of it. It's worth checking...
swap usb cables, also canned air to the usb port on the phone wouldnt hurt
This just happened to my inspire as well. Charge is OK, but no more Mass Storage connection. I have tried on multiple computers and multiple cables. I even reset the phone back to stock and it still didn't work. Oh well. I have a Vivid on the way.

ATT ships an HTC data cable. They do not ship a charge only cable. Most likely you just got a bad cable.
I was following (like an idiot) the instructions for the Advanced Ace Hack Toolkit.
I uninstalled the My HTC phone that was listed in mY Device Manager
64 bit Windows 7 Pro.
Now, no matter what drivers I try to browser for, my computer cannot find a driver for 'Android Phone' when searching.
The HTC Drivers 3.0.0.0.7 installer doesn't seem to do anything, and crashes, saying it's not installed correctly.
Has anyone had this happen, and can correct it?

Agreed with Ago, you likely have a bad cable. please dont confuse new users. I would go back to att and get them to replace it.

First, I would like to know what part of following the instructions causes you to be an idiot?
Second, did you uninstall HTC sync?
Third, I would like to know IF you have tried running the installer as an admin OR if when you run the installer, it has the user account control pop-up asking about changes and the computer (or if you have disabled that through user accounts)
(Oh and I used AAHK's same driver installer on my Windows 7 x64 computer without an issue... sooooooooooooo it's likely a local issue, such as needing to verify the download's checksum, disabling antivirus [something about the first line where in the same section as uninstalling drivers], etc)
AND, a tool like at this page might help a litte... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/view-the-list-of-installed-drivers-the-easy-way/
or if you wanna command line it...
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...t-of-installed-drivers-from-the-command-line/
No joy my end either trying to install that HTCDriver3.0.0.007 on a Wind'ohs 7 x64 Shuttle
In certificates under options for this installer, "This certificate has expired or is not yet valid" Valid from 11/ 01/ 2011 to 17/ 01/ 2012". Can anyone help me to locate a driver that I CAN install to let me unlock a HTC Desire please?

[SOLVED] Fastboot USB not working

Hello,
I got a strange problem: my phone does not accept adb or fastboot commands sent from my pc anymore. The screen says FASTBOOT when connected in fastboot mode to the pc, but the USB appears only after I move the cursor up or down (push the volume button up or down).
The command line on windows states "Waiting for device...". The driver seems broken. In Device Manager (Windows) it says "Other devices -- Android Phone" with an exclamatin mark. A driver update fails.
I am running CM alpha 12 on a HTC One S (S4). The phone was not connected to my pc while on stock. The Android SDK is installed on the pc and up to date.
The phone is running fine besides the lack of usb access in any way. Charging works fine.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I had the same issue too. I wantet to push a recovery and my pc could not find my device. I reinstalled htc sync and then found the drivers in c:/programs/htc/sync drivers

I'm delighted it worked. Thank you. I should have tried this before, but I did not think of installing HTC sync. Will keep that in mind.

[Q] HTC Desire S and Windows 8

Hi all,
I am trying to upgrade my HTC Desire S to Android 4.0 via the official ICS update from HTC. However, I cannot get my laptop (Windows 8) to interact with my phone.
If I mount the SD card then I can view the contents but HTC sync won't find the phone and in 'Device Manager' the phone is labelled as "Android Phone" with the yellow warning triangle next to it. I have tried to download drivers but can't seem to get them working. Whether that is my fault or the laptops fault I am unsure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
benandrews54
Search for Windows 8 drivers in the main Android Development thread of XDA. I would have give you a link but it is hard via Tapatalk. I have 2 Windows 8 machines and it works perfect on both of them

Cheers, I'll have a look now and let you know if it works or not.

HTC drivers are not yet compatible with win 8, I was having the same problem you shud use older version of windows.
with out the drivers sync cannot access the phone
When win 8 is officially released; HTC will release a compatible driver
This might work try once

That link is dead.
Searched and found multiple 'fixes' but none of them work for me.
Tried:
Restarting Windows 8 into "Disable driver signature enforcement" mode but HTC drivers still terminate as "not compatible with this version of Windows". cant post link, search "Installing Fastboot/ADB drivers in Windows 8"
Installing drivers via device manager but "Windows was unable to install your Android phone".
DL and installed full SDK but 'SDK Manager.exe' flashes up and closes with no further notice when trying to run.
Despite post count I'm not a noob, I am however starting to feel like one! I thought I knew what I was doing but I just can't find compatible drivers to get Windows 8 to recognise my Android so I can run ADB and Fastboot.
Appreciate some have no issues (and that's wonderful for you) but this is driving me crazy! Can someone please post a link to USB drivers that work with Windows 8 x64 and the Desire S.

Thanks, I tried that under both XP and 7 mode to no joy. It's not just this one PC, I can't get it to work on any of my (3) Win 8 machines!
For the SDK, I dl and unzipped the (almost 400Mb package) with WinRAR. With Java install, Elaipse works fine but I cannot get 'SDK Manager.exe' to run. I tried to run from both GUI and CLI but not even an error message.
Device Manager still shows exclamation mark under 'Android Device'.
I even tried to run the HTC Sync Tool but this failed at the USB driver stage. Nothing seems to work
Very frustrating as I have a custom ROM which keeps powering down randomly so I need a reload very soon.
Edit reread the whole post
I was having a lot of trouble with windows 8 x64 and jugg1es pointed me to the guide posted by .blAcK. Worked perfectly for me. Tried it on 2 different PC's. I'm not sure why it's not working for you though. I used the x64 files posted by the author of the guide.

Fastboot Not Recognized

Ok guys, sorry to start another thread on this but I have been going through thread after thread and searching endlessly for a solution and nothing has worked for me.
I was getting ready to do the S-Off procedures and my device is recognized by computer to transfer files, and adb recognizes the device as well, I was able to get the device ID. Reboot into bootloader and fastboot just hangs there and no fastboot usb. try to enter fastboot command and it just hangs at "waiting for device"
I started going crazy and uninstalled drivers. Installed HTC Sync, (never needed it before). Now when I plug in USB while in Fastboot computer recognizes device but says it is not working properly.
Under device manager > Android USB Devices > (Yellow triangle) My HTC > Device Status ( This device cannot start Code 10), (A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed). Driver version 2.0.7.14. I try to update the driver manually and it says "It appears the right driver is already installed." Tried disabling enabling. Unistalling, plugging back in. Nothing seems to work.
Running Viper 3.2.3
Windows 8 (didnt have the problem before using fastboot)
Sorry for long post. Thanks in advance.

try using this application if you think your device drivers are dirty but installed correctly for usb devices
USBDeview just uninstall whatever devices you want reinitialized especially since they can change even with rom changes so it is good to clear some old ones out by sorting them based on Last Plug/Unplug Date.
I had to use a different Micro-USB cable to get it work. Try that.

If your on Windows 8 problems will occur but there are methods you need to look into. Windows 7 is your ally.
First Uninstalled the drivers for the device using the program in the previous post. Second, make sure your cable is working correctly. Third, make sure you have the correct drivers for you phone on the computer - - HTC Sync causes problems sometimes. Fourth, plug in the phone in while it's on and let the drivers install correctly. Fifth, place the phone in fastboot and let drivers install. Should work.
Remember sometimes you need to restart your computer and try different USB ports. Some users have said 3.0 ports cause problems.
Good luck.

[Q] Android L froze and stuck at google logo on nexus 5

I am in need of assistance as my Nexus 5 running Android L recently froze up on me at the lock screen. Not being able to unlock it, i restarted the device only to find it stuck at the Google logo. I figured i could just reflash the phone to stock android 4.4.4 via fastboot, but when connected to my pc in bootloader mode, it isnt recognized as Nexus 5, rather as Android Device. I deleted the drivers and re-installed them but no such luck, i ran out of options. I searched some threads and couldn't find a solution to my problem, so i was hoping to get some help. I'm still kind of a noob with this kind of stuff, so please excuse me if this doesn't make any sense. Is there anything else i can try?
