Here is the zip file to apply to the 2.3.5 fxz, to make RSDlite flash the FXZ files properly, from the ICS leak. The steps are the same as they were for the 2.3.6 fix. Just unzip these files over top of the original fxz files.
+++++++++++++++++++++++NOTE++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have pulled these files, so that no else attempts to flash the fxz and brick thier phone. DO NOT ASK FOR THE FILES, I will not give them out knowing what happens to those on ICS that try to fxz back to GB.

LOL... You forget I had to think of several ways to possibly break this before I posted it for the rest of the world, so if there were issues, I knew what to do... How do you think I was able to flash that whole process 4 times... I built this yesterday afternoon, before I even started the process of testing the OTA out. I HAD to make sure we could flash back, so we were not like the OG Atrix guys, who can't flash an SBF now.
Thank You Jim, you are awesome.

I assume I can get away with just wiping data and cache, then flashing boot and system from 2.3.6 for a quick unbrick.

the first time it would not boot, because the lbl file and the mbm were not loaded, and it is critical in this move back.... they have done something to the BL, to make flashing a little harder. I did a hex dump and a decompile of the new mbm file and it has a spot in it that looks like a check for correct lbl file being loaded from the fastboot flash.
The issue with the recovery is because it flashes a new recovery, and that was on the second time I had to flash the fxz, due to a bad root...

This is very weird, I have just redone the whole process 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 and ICS, and nothing strange happened (knock on wood).
I used the file from my signature.

Did you use my patch to patch the 2.3.5 fxz for the ICS leak that I posted yesterday?
I am thinking the secret is using a script and not RSDlite. That is how I always restore my phone is with my own scripts, that I was getting ready to release before all this started.

Okay, I had soft-bricked my phone and recovery was not working, so, after a few minutes of tech time with T-Mo they shipped me a new phone.
Even though i called them to cancel the shipment when I managed to get Odin working and get the phone back up...
Long story short - the brand spankin' new device just landed on my desk updating stock apps as I type.
KB5 stock.
Is there anyway to back this up as is before I add CWM? Can I somehow dump it with Odin? I still have not played with Odin enough to know this....
I'd like to preserve the stock rom if it all possible, for 'just in case'

Fek, sorry guys, I just got done grabbing the Kies KD1 - literally right before I rad this it finished installing.
I haven't flashed anything, this is still just the stock phone, with the T-Mo/Samsung ROM, upgaded, but not with any custom roms, on it if that will do it, I'll hold off rooting, etc until I can get the sbl and boot pulled if these will still work?

I flashed back to stock this morning to test something and noticed there was a 19Mb update. After updating I rebooted the phone and checked a few more times to make sure there were no more updates. When I went into 'Download' to flash a new rom this is the screen I was presented with. After I chose to enter to Download mode that was the 2nd screen I had. Just thought it was funny and would share.

Removing the download for the bootloaders so people won't try flashing them and brick devices left and right. They were only intended for serious devs who know what they are doing. Sorry.

Considering that we haven't ever been able to flash dumped BLs from the Rogers ROM, having the update package to look at would be highly beneficial to figure out how to flash the bootloaders.
This is a similar download mode screen to the SGSII - keeping count of how many custom ROMS you run/flash. Keeping in mind if you phone needs to go some where to be serviced there maybe a document of how they can check this counter. A USB JIG cleared this on the SGSII & my jig works fine on my Infuse so I can imagine it will still clear it.

If that's the reason, then that's a REALLY smart way to track if you flash a custom "OS", as Samsung would say.
If it's as simple as using a USB JIG to clear it, then we should be in the clear.
Well i guess this finally gives me a reason to pick one up......

I was curious about this, thanks for the info!
Also in case anyone wants to know, after flashing the leaked GB with this BL the download screen still reports official Samsung Binary as the current.
This is just a short term observation: when I flashed the leaked GB with the old BL I got hard reboots when apps accessed GPS (speed test, maps, co pilot) 1 out of 10 times. With these BL's I am at 18 hours using all of those apps without any reboots. Though it could have just been reflashing that fixed it. I did not use TB or anything to restore app data usher time, both times I went back to stock first.

Quick question. Would what I have my phone set as under build.prop (ro.build.device etc.) change what updates I could get from cheesecake? Currently my phone is set as a Galaxy S II. I'm wondering this because whenever I check cheesecake every server is usually down....
Good question. I didn't think of that before. Mine is set to look like a infuse. Same problem here

I would highly recommend being on stock rooted (or stock deodexed ROM) to check on Cheesecake. Both of those do not mess with the build.prop file, so Motorola would still see your phone as if it were on the original firmware.

ive messed with the build.prop, and i do not believe its called by the update server.... seems to me its checking something else....maybe parts of the build.prop, but if it were only the build prop, you would not need an A2 to check for updates for an A2, you would just have to change your build.prop....
so i think the answer is ...... unfortunatly...... need to be on an att based rom to recieve an att based update.....
and most servers will be down 99% of the time, and only up for short snaps... y we all have to check constantly.....

Either way, I'm doing my fair share of checking.
It is not cheesecake that checks the build.prop, it is the andriod update checker that does it.
You MUST "appear" as stock to both the update check app that chesecake calls, and to the updater script when we really have an update. As said the fxz is the best start point, for a true real production OTA.

Did you make your edit in Linux with gedit? If so it does that.... If your phone is overwriting it, it is mostlikely and issue in your ROM. Check that you do not have anything in /system/etc/init.goldfish.rc or something similar, that could overwrite it, that or /system/etc/init.d
Those really are the only things that could do something like that... or cheesecake, but I highly doubt that.
This may be a stupid question, but has anyone flashed to or been on 2.3.5. with root and with [whatever] rom, installed Cheesecake, and tried getting updated to 2.3.6. through Cheesecake?

Yes, there were several people back in Nov. that found those leaks... No not now though.. All cheesecake does is it connects to all the MOTO pro,QA,DEV, and TEST, servers, to find updates that the devs put up their for internal QA/QC at each phase... that is why they are not up for very long.
That is why even if you were on 2.3.5 you would still find the 4.04 stuff... I know I saw a couple of ICS leaks last week (they were gone before I could get them downloaded fully) right after I fxz'd with 2.3.5... I am now back to 2.3.6 bone stock rooted, so that I can test something special I am attempting. Don't ask what just yet, but if you know anything about me, you know I have one real mission in here, and this is still working to that end, I have no clue yet if this will work though.

Hey everyone,
We are currently trying to figure out exactly why some people are hardbricking when the attempt to flash from ICS to 2.3.5 and why others are perfectly fine... we'd like to hear from all the people that attempted to flash back to 2.3.5. Were you using RSD Lite, or a script (what script)? We would much appreciate it if all of tell us your preferred brick method in the poll above, or if your A2 is still up and running .
Also feel free to reply with extra information about the script or xml file you used in the attempt.
Thanks for your pacience in the matter.

Is there someone out there with a fix for this hard brick issue or is willing to find a fix for this? I'm stuck with this hard brick, many other phones have fix for hard brick, even Atrix 4G with JTAG. Why isn't there a fix for Atrix 2? What is stopping us? I'm not a profesional, I really don't mess with these things like open the phone and solder wires, but if someone manage to unbrick a hard bricked Atrix 2, maybe he/she can let us know how to unbrick it.
Trust me man. The devs are working hard on getting a fix for us. And I am sure that if they find a way to "Un-Brick" the phones affected they will. We will be the first to know.
Remember, this is on their time. Not yours. No offense, but you need to be grateful for the time they are giving us, of their own accord.
For now, try not to hijack the thread and let's stick on topic. Cogeary is just trying to get info to HELP us fix this issue.

p.s. - With all of the bricks dropping around here, someone with the ways and means could/should start up a little company "resurrecting" A2's and Motos... just a thought..
Edit - sorry mtnlion... saw your post after posting my post... ya, let's keep it clean - starting... now!
I bricked using RSDlite v5.6 (good idea chrisel..)
Maybe also include what version of rsd you're using? I know allot are on 5.6 and maybe 5.7 has something to do with it?

Nope I tied both and I can fxz back and forth all day long... so can a few others.
I have used scripts and rsdlite and they both work for me...
Could there possibly be diff versions of the leak downloaded? Maybe that would explain the diff clock speeds?

Not likely... it is probably because those that are overclocked were overclocked at one time or another, and the chips are able to overvolt now, from the OG hack that was done...
Operating system used? Front usb Ports? Rear?

Ok, here we go. I was on the leak, bought and downloaded setcpu, set overclock to 1000, set to start on reboot, rebooted and got stuck on att screen for over 20 minutes. Tried factory reset in recovery and it didn't work. Tried to Fzx back to 2.3.5 using jims patch for rsd. Got stuck on bootloader 5/18 and the phone died.

You got stuck at the boot logo screen? Or on rsdlite?

Don't understand much, why all of us used same Fxz file for same phone but RSD shows different steps. Mine showed 19 steps, and stuck at 5/19. Others are 18, 21 ... ?

Mine showed 8/20
Not all the FXZ files are exactly the same. darkmixta is on an international released phone, so the fxz for that is different from the AT&T US one, that is why some fxzs have more steps and others have less.

I've read elsewhere of another using set CPU and bricking their phone.

It wasn't setcpu, it was the rsd failure that bricked him... but his setcpu issue that forced him to fxz is peculiar..

This is for those that have ran both. Have you noticed any significant differences in the two, aside from being able to flash back? My wife has been rooted stock GB and hates changes and wondering if I would be better putting her on the first leak or allowing the upgrade. I ran SCV7 before switching to my SGS3 and found no problems with it. Having never used the second leak, would like some feedback from those that may have ran both. Thanks
Bump.....
The second leak(official) is more stable with less bugs. I have gotten better battery life as well.

What about the FXZ dilemma, is that being resolved with the 2nd leak? I know tcf38012 has posted something, but it's rather cryptic and not very comprehensible...

It is not an fxz fix. It will only un-softbrick people who softbricked on leak 2.

So there's still something to consider. ICSL2 has no way back to GB, whereas ICSL1 does. For whatever that's worth to help the OP. Thanks Jim...

Not too worried about being able to go back for her phone. Once ICS is installed and rooted, she'll be happy. Just curious if there are any significant "improvements" between the 2 versions.

Battery is a lot better, phone becomes more responsive, many have reported they are getting better graphics.
If you are not into shuffling between ROMs or tweaking i say go for the OTA you won't regret it.

I too have the same question, is it smarter to just stay on leak 1, i do like flashing roms and tweaking. Is it going to be that much harder to get custom roms if we have the official OTA version?

Well it's not that it's going to be hard it's just that if you run into some trouble you can always fxz your way back but with leak 2 that it's not the option as there is no fxz for ICS as of now.however recently a few people(including me) have been able to recover from a soft brick on leak2.so really it's a matter upto you.you know the risks and the upside.

Why not stay on leak 1 and just flash one of the roms with leak #2 system? That way you get the best of both worlds.
No way in hell will i give up my option to get back to GB if needed.

Totally agree with you. Until there's an FXZ for leak2/official OTA, I'll stay on leak one and flash away. I've already had to use the 2.3.6 FXZ and it worked perfectly.
going to bump this thread if its ok. Now that Official ICS has been out and running for a bit, what are your thoughts on it versus the original leak.

Just keep in mind that some phones had some strange issues after the ICS OTA, and were only corrected by doing a FDR.
