Hey there,
I'm planning to buy the European version of the 10.1 Tab 2 and I have some questions. I know that there's an IR blaster on the WiFi version, but I can't find any info regarding the 3G version. Actually, there's no word regarding the IR blaster in neither of the user guide, WiFi nor 3G.
1. Is there an IR blaster on the 3G version?
2. Are there any hardware differences between devices launched in different countries? I'm planning to buy one from Germany.
3. Are the hardware differences between the WiFi and the 3G version affecting the functionality of the devices? Are there any noticeable operation speed differences?
I'm interested in using the IR blaster, so if there`s no IR on the 3G, I can live with it. I can share my data plan from my SGS2 via WiFi.
I've searched the net and didn't found any reviews of the Tab 2 10.1 3G covering my questions.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I think only the xx13(wifi only) models have the ir blaster. But it doesn't seem to be supported by custom roms. Neither cm9 nor AOKP do. Frankly it seemed like a novelty to me, but maybe that's just because i don't watch much tv.

Thanks for your input.
I've noticed that the custom ROMs are not supporting the IR blaster. In this case maybe I'll choose the 3G version.
As far as I know, the IR Blaster is only available on the US WiFi versions. Anything outside the US (and maybe Canada) won't have the IR blaster.

Bought one here in the Netherlands... it's a GT-P5113 (which is supposed to be the US version of the Wifi Tab 2) and it does NOT have the IR Blaster....
It's strange. As far as I can remember, I've seen one at Mediamarkt - Germany with a dark plastic thing on the top/middle section. It looked like a IR blaster cover on the WiFi version.
Today or tomorrow I'll go there again and I'll take some pictures.

I'll check to see if it's any different than mine =)
Just got back from Mediamarkt. The Galay Tab 2 10.1 has no IR blaster. I think I saw to many reviews on the internet and I've remembered wrong. My mind is playing with me
The WiFi version costs 369,- EUR and no UMTS version available at Mediamarkt Germany. They have no supplier and they don't even know if it is going to be available in the future.
I'll wait 2-3 weeks while checking more shops, maybe I'll jump over to Holland to compare those prices too.
LE
I've checked om mediamarkt.nl and the 3G version costs 422 and the Wifi 336 EUR. I think Holland is waiting for me )

I know that the OG SGS2 on AT&T is capable of NFC (thought from what I understand, it's not quite enabled in the software), and I've read that the T-Mo variant is too.
I'm looking to upgrade and am likely going to get either of AT&T's new LTE phones (The Vivid or the Skyrocket), and am trying to decide which. (I'm upgrading from an older phone, not an OG SGS2, so I'm not looking for a discussion on which SGS2 is better. Also, I'm in Atlanta, where LTE is live, so I'm not looking for a discussion on the merits of LTE, either.) Overall, I like the Vivid best, but would love to have the NFC. So if the Skyrocket does in fact have NFC, I'd probably go with that.
My question is: Can anybody confirm whether either phone has NFC? I've found conflicting things all over the internet, and searching XDA hasn't turned up anything definitive.
Thanks for the help!
I have seen the skyrocket myself and I can verify that the battery inside of it says Near Field Communication. I however, can not verify if it is an unlocked feature as it is in the OG one.
Great! Thanks for the confirmation! Any idea about the Vivid? (I think that one's more of a long shot, as HTC has not released any NFC capable phones yet, but I can hope, right?)

Get the skyrocket if you can! Super AMOLED+ is the best screen out there. HTC lost its flair recently. Samsung v/s iPhone it is now!
If it's disabled in software, you're better off with the I777. We're a LOT closer to reenabling it.
(as in - I can now read tags, but Google Wallet FCs.)
The manual states on pg 138 that it is disabled and will be activated at future date.
Hope these skyrocket threads can be moved to their correct destinations...

I had the same question. It's a p.i.t.a. to find info about NFC. Samsung is worst. A handset without NFC chip, another with disabled NFC chip and a handset with enabled NFC. We talk about one and the same model. Some manufacturers and most carriers don't give info about NFC chip.
bjg222, HTC has the Incredible S NFC (yet only in China), and the Amaze (T-Mobile)! I don't have info if NFC is enabled or not.
At NFC-Phones.org you find available handsets listed by country and by carrier, also a summary-list with info about the NFC features. If the Phone has Tag, Pair, Share and secure payments enabled. Still many question marks, feedback from owners is hard to find, but working on it every day. Joao
how to enable NFC
The only way I am aware of how to enable The NFC functionality is to upgrade to ICS. I did and NFC is now an option to activate. Don't know how it works, though. No one near where I live is making use of that tech.

Yes.......
GT-P6210 has it for sure.
Hmm... I'm getting confused =.=!
So P6200 do not have Ir port & P6210 have it, right?
P6200 has white back case and sim card slot, no peel nor IR port
P6210 has grey back case, samsung peel and IR port. No 3G nor sim card slot.
I don't have it either, mine is P6200, white back case.
mine have
mine GTP6200 3g 16gb, white back
have ir, sim slot and mcard slot
interesting, might be region dependent.
Went to a Samsung store and noticed there dummy display unit has IR while the actual demo unit has none.
Mine have Ir too
mine GT P6200. 3g+wifi 16GB White, also have ir blaster and have peel smart remote.
On Samsung website the 6200 is listed as having infrared. Incidently, I have the 6210 and it has IR, no 3g but white case. I think both colours are available for each model. And I believe IR is on both.

Mine is a P6200 Asian version. No infrared

Yes I have noticed the similar threads and I came across them but I want to get the specific answers from XOOM experts;
-I want to purchase a tablet for my GF and a lil usage from my end as well(gaming?).
-Right now in the UAE I can have the 3G version for $249 (with the protective folio for free) and the Wifi only @ $221 (Uk version cause it says it has the UK plug? standards here are all UK based I believe)
-I know the basics now(you can tell from my sig) about android, de-brand, use different firmwares for different region models of the same device (eg.Galaxy Nexus takju vs yakju).
1. Which is really better to get, the 3G variant(yes can tether thru any android phone but is only having 4.0.4) or wifi(which I have read has the the Jelly Bean 4.1.1?
1.5 How is that team EOS or CM10 as a daily driver for the xoom? can it be used for both wifi and 3g version?
2. How does this stand to the nexus 7 as of now? I know the device is 1 1/2yr old now Hint; my GF does not like squinting LOL, maybe she'll be using a tab for facebook epecially poker, e-mails, pictures, and videos (1080p is supported?)
Hope the experts could chime in to this dilemma I am having..
PS..not considering iPAD, no way!
BUMP
for an answer from the experts
Get the 3g, you can load any rom on the xoom be it wifi or 3g rom, all 3g xoom is quad band 850/900/1800/1900,My understanding is all internal parts are the same, only radio software, be it umts, cdma, gsm.. my xoom is a cdma 3g, when motorola have any new ota updates for wifi only i load my 604 wifi backup and test, when verizon decide to send their ota i load my 602 backup..
Hi,
Can anyone help to share where to download the firmware FM RADIO for SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE II LTE, N7105???IS The phone missing the fm radio tech suppported???????
thanks..
tehnoth or maior 5 comptroller
I cant find it too. I also download a app on the market and it dont work. Maybe this version do not have Fm Radio in it =| .
Call Samsung
Seriously, I did not know there were sooo many different variants of the Note II (LTE). After reading on a couple of websites that it had FM Radio I went ahead to purchase the LTE version and only to find out later that it did not have FM Radio enabled in the Singapore version.
Some say there is no hardware built within the phone to support FM Radio but when I called Samsung Singapore helpline (1800-7267864) and voiced my disappointment, over the local market being deprived of a very basic function;
1) First I was told, no FM Radio and to download Radio Application from Google Play the streaming kind that will incur data charges.
2) When I said, why is that overseas LTE model has inbuilt FM Receiver then I was told that Samsung was aware of this issue and that they were working on this situation and perhaps there will be an update soon.
So in other words, it may just have something to do with the ROM and or Kernal and the hardware is probably already there but disabled. I suggest, those who feel there is a strong need for this function (FM Radio) to call them up and constantly, get an update otherwise, Samsung won't really know that there is a serious market for this function. Just my opinion.
Hi there,
I was also "cheated" by thinking there is FM radio in the Singapore Note version! Had called Samsung before but there is no satisfactory answer from them.

My conclusion is that nowadays it is quite rare or virtually unheard of to get a dirt cheap plan with unlimited or 10GB data with any of the local telcos. Those good old days are gone. The 3 major telco here have limited the data to 2GB-4GB for basic plans. Question is how else can these telcos make money? Answer, via these data consuming apps that some of us have been suggested to use in lieu of the actual hardware based FM receiver.
True, some may not see the need of having a FM receiver on their phones but then there are those of us who love listening to live music while on the go. Some may even suggest getting an additional gadget for that very purpose but the last thing we want to do is carry multiple gadgets for multiple reasons. I love the phone but it would had sweeten the deal more if they had enabled the FM receiver on our local handsets. Besides, why the double standards? Same model Retail set you get FM receiver and Telco set without. A big boo to Samsung Singapore and the local telcos.
I received my N7105 today, bought off Kogan.com.au.
I only have a 500MB/month data plan, and my employer's internet connection isn't great, so I thought I'd try its FM radio...
and there was no app.
so I ran the Samsung apps apps to see if I had to download it. No sign.
googled and found this thread... it seems hard to believe there's no FM radio!
I would still have bought the N7105 but I would like to have known of the radio's absence to avoid the tinge of disappointment.
Add another surprised user to the list... I just bought my GT-7105T (Telstra Australian version) a few days ago and went looking for the FM radio just now... not there! I had no idea there were so many variants, perhaps I would have tried to find out which grey imports would have worked on Aus 4G networks as the Korean versions get a DMB tuner (for digital radio and TV!)
If anyone is interested in checking out the different variants before purchasing, there's a handy table on the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_II#Table_of_variants
In the meantime I will contact Samsung as well, at least to try and find out if FM hardware is missing, or maybe it will come with a software update or some software mods/hacking.

I believe it has to do with different models (varriants) as mugget points out on the wiki thread, and not retail vs telco.
I also looked in those korean versions. I do not believe you can get fm (or tv) reception in countries that do not utilize that system.
As far as LTE functionality, those korean models might match one or 2 of your country's LTE frequencies but not all. For example, none of the korean versions tune to the 2600 frequency.
Whether or not the fm hardware is there or not, is it not more involved setting up 2 assembly lines instead of one?
And like already stated: "Why the double standards"?
Add me to the list. Singapore and Starhub. Pretty disappointed.
Does anyone know if the phone has the hardware?
Welcome to the disappointed club!
The lack of radio and 64 GB model kept me from buing this one although I REALLY wanted it...
Is the radio harware there? I guess only Samsung knows.
Patience!
Australia is digital radio and tv ready. why didn't sumsung pt this feature in note 2? fortunately I haven't bought it yet.
Add me to the list of disappointed owner. I own a HongKong GT-N7105 Galaxy Note 2 LTE and I really never thought that something so basic cheap and useful would be let out of this high end piece. Does anyone have any info if the hardware is in there and that a software update or a dev could enable it? Cheers
Same problem here. No FM Radio app, I'm SO disappointed. Bought the device 3 days ago and just noticed that it's missing! WTF. Everyone doesn't have internet access all the time! And it takes a lot more battery to use mobile data on the go to listen music, when you can just turn on the app and listen it for real! And how about when you don't have access to mobile data, like when you're hiking and there's no mobile network! You might hear FM frequencies with the phone, but no, there is no app for the cause. Fck.
GT-N7105, 4.1.2 (N7105XXDLL5).
Seems like we aren't going to get FM Radio at all...

Greate...i payd 490Euro for a Note 2 Lte and it doesn't have radio FM? WTF? My dad has a Lg Optimus Sol and HAS RADIO!!!
I hope they will make an update for radio on Lte version...
Can't update that!
It is missing the hardware!
I searches for this too ,same result :/ i dont see any other way than Google musix all acces , spotify or webradio ,that Kind of stuff

I live in the UK and want the Gear S2 3G watch so I can use the speakerphone rather than having to get my Galaxy Note 4 out of my pocket. I would prefer the Classic 3G version which seems only on sale in South Korea. I do not want to use the watch as a standalone so don't need a sim for it. If I buy the Classic 3G version from South Korea should it work with my UK Galaxy Note 4 using Bluetooth? Samsung Support will not confirm as their Smartphones have different interfaces on different continents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can think of no reason, other than Samsung deliberately sabotaging the combination through programming in the Gear Manager application to prevent it, that it wouldn't work just fine. And while I have no authoritative source from which to answer the Gear Manager question, I find it so remotely unlikely that I'd take the risk (and am considering it when I can find out for certain whether or not it can be flashed with US firmware, and operate on Verizon's network).
Remember, it works with the Note 4 sold in SK. Same Bluetooth, same Android OS, etc.

Thanks very much for your reply. Being a novice I have one more question...Will the S2 3G version definitely operate using bluetooth with no sim card installed? I was just wondering if the watch needs a sim card inserted to switch on properly and to use bluetooth like Smartphones do?.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Yes, it will still work over bluetooth. That's how I'm using my S2 3G. No SIM activation.
