Every thing i'm reading says you can make phone calls from the galaxy tab plus in receiver mode. is that strictly for the 3G versions? Because on my wifi version I don't have that option.
Sorry but off course you cannot do that with WiFi version...only 3G works as a phone.

That's only half-correct. You can't make phone calls without a wifi connection in the wifi-only version, and it is missing a traditional dialer, but there are plenty of apps, such as Skype, Vonage, and GrooVe IP which will allow you to make calls in receiver mode even on the wifi-only version.
Does anyone know if the 3G/4G GT 7.0 Plus can be flashed to enable voice calls, like the original Galaxy Tab? Thanks to the great devs here on XDA I was able to flash my original tab & was hoping to do the same if/when an AT&T model is released. Other web sites (samsung, gsm arena) show pics of the GT 7 Plus & the GT 2 with the dialer app. I'm sure these are the European versions, as was the case with the original Galaxy Tab.
....if not, I may have to settle for a Galaxy Note.

I understood we were talking about phone function with dialer application, which wifi version is unable to offer. And off course there are plenty devices which are able to make calls through VOIP, Skype etc...but not through GSM if there is only wifi version. This is general for tablets and computers.
Does this the t869 version have the "Voice Receiver" mode?
Talked about on the Samsung site or just speakerphone?

That is the million dollar question that I am trying to get answered too. I have the original Samsung Galaxy Tab and make phone calls all day long with it. Of course I am using a SIM that originally worked on a Samsung Galaxy S so I don't have just data on my plan.
If you are like me, you are absolutely frustrated that you can either have Phone+2G or swap modems and boot into pure 3G mode without phone calling ability. So, I have a couple people confirming that the Huawei Springboard can make phone calls and I believe also utilize 3G/4G on the TMobile USA network (unconfirmed on the 3G/4G portion). I want to stick to having a 7" device that makes phone calls as my phone but I want my 3G/4G ability that I am paying for.
So, here are the tablets that are out and if they work with TMobile USA network:
Huawei Springboard Phone=Yes, 3G/4G=?
Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus Phone=?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Phone=Yes according to one website
Samsung Galaxy Note Phone=No, not unless new radio is put in unit.
Dell Streak 7" - Not sure

From what I understand the Springboard is also missing the hardware to do voice calls without Bluetooth, speakerphone etc.
Is it possible to purchase the int'l unlocked version of the Galaxy Tab 7+ that has the voice receiver hardware and flash the modem, etc from the T-Mobile version so that tmo 3G/4G?
Or is that a hardware incompatibility with the int'l version?
Juanpv, I believe you are right about the Springboard not having the hardware/microphone to handle phone calls without bluetooth or headset.
I believe the international version of the Tab Plus doesn't do the 1700 bandwidth which the TMobile USA network needs.
I'm so frustrated right now. Does anyone know of a 7" device that works on the TMO USA network and allows phone, 3G/4G without having to reboot?
I've been using the T-Mobile galaxy plus as my primary phone for about a month now. I etf'ed(if that's not a real word,it should become one) my original number to transfer it over it Google voice,only cuz i picked up a galaxy ii as well. I downloaded the groove IP app and that was pretty much that. Now granted,its not ideal,on wifi u get a small delay,and because I live in a market without 4g...its almost impossible to use it as it cuts out either when I'm talking...or the other person on a line. My tablet has two numbers attached to it also...the Google voice one and the T-Mobile data plan. Granted...I use really only about thirty minute a month for voice...its been pretty ideal for me. It was also very easy to attach a blue tooth headset to it. Also,I don't think it allows u to call 911...but with two other cell phones in the house,I hope it wouldn't b a problem. So I've been pretty happy with this setup..playing games is great, I've been reading way more then before and I have yet to find pants that I own that it doesn't fit in....watching Netflix or other movies is great,especially on the treadmill ...and that'd really when it becomes awkward...is listening to music at the gym...but its cool to use apps like jetfit pro to keep track of your sets. Is it ideal...no...but more then functional. Let me know if anyone has any questions.
Ps. While the camera takes decent pictures...its def a drop off from the quality of the s ii I got use to before I gave it to a family member.

Thank you for sharing in what way you are using the TMO Galaxy Tab Plus. Have you tried or found any hacks to get one of the sim cards, from another phone, to utilize the phone features of the tablet?
I see on the Samsung website that it has phone calling capabilities but I also read somewhere/someone believes TMO had Samsung remove the physical hardware to support standard phone calls. I personally believe that is erroneous information as they thought the same with the original Samsung Tab.
I am just using another "data" sim card from T-Mobile...so I have two numbers attached to my tablet ...sorry...I did scour the interweb to find a trick to just use my original one...but no dice :-(

Galaxy Tab 7 Plus (USA Version) won't allow 3G/GSM Calling. No one has hacked it like you can on the original tab. I actually bought the Galaxy 7 Tab Plus in hopes I can, and sadly found out after hours of reading that I can' t
Now, the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus (International Version) does allow you to! It will run you around $700 for it (I was able to find one for $460 in Australia, but shipping is expensive).
The reason the USA version can't, is the same reason why no tablet in the USA can make calls the carrier (I believe) blocks it. I don't know exactly why they do, perhaps data usage or something... there is only 1 or 2 tablets out there that support gsm calling, I don't recall what they are though, but nothing fancy like a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus.
I'm all about GSM Calling and anti-VOIP calling, but as I do more research I might migrate to VOIP phones, mostly because there is no limitation on what device you use...And I'm leaning towards the Sony Tablet P (Fold/Clamshell design)... I know, 99% of people out there hate that device, but I love the idea. Comes out in a week, so I'm pretty excited

I was under the impression that I could use my G2 sim which has unlimited data on this Tab, but that not the case!
TMO wants me to sign up for another data plan, so said KMB and send the damn thing back. As I could only load T-Mobile website on it using my sim card.
Now I am ordering EU tab thru my friend who lives in London. I will post updates after getting it

See, I feel differently about utilizing VOIP or relying on it. I personally have been using VOIP on older Windows Mobile devices, Nokia N800 and my Samsung Galaxy Tab when in 3G mode. But, I can tell you it's like having cell phone access about 1/10th of the time that you would have Cellular phone ability. Maybe it's even less but I don't want to be too critical. The amount of dropped calls, weird echoes, inability to even call, etc. is just too frustrating to rely on for a day to day phone. Plus, you'll upset everyone that you are talking too because they suffer through the same problems as you do. It's been a great way to alienate my friends.
I think I'm going to have to just give up and go back to a dumb 4"+ phone just so I have a dual core, Cellular, 2G/3G/4G capability all at the same time SINGLE device.
Damn the US phone companies! Every last one of them. At least with T-Mobile's business plan I get 1000 minutes, unlimited data (5GB), unlimited text for $39.99 a month. If I wanted unlimited everything then it's just $10 more at $49.99 as of Feb 2012.

Wow, thanks for that post I've been asking numerous people and read a few threads/articles online about VOIP, and what you said is exactly what I was afraid of, and I've been told it won't happen if you have a connection... but I thought, well what if I'm driving? That means the speed will only decrease drastically, and like most people I talk while driving a lot...
I was afraid of the dropped calls, echos, upsetting the other end, etc etc... looks like that will happen still
Sadly, I think I will also have to go back to a dumb 4" phone too :\ I really want to use the new Galaxy Tab 7 Plus as a phone, shame it's not possible like the original :\

I am using the Galaxy Tab t mobile SGH t849 7 ich that allows me to use GSM 2g voice + data and 3g data only using modem switcher.
Hi, they seem to be selling the 3g version on Ebay now, ive been scouring the net but cannot find a DEFINATE answer as to whether the 3g version can make and recieve calls from the watch itself without having to use a headset?
i have other question, if i dont use e-sim.. i can use normally gear s2 with bluetooth but speak with gear s2 ?

You should be able to. I don't think it's a software limitation with the non 3g version, it's just hardware. So with the hardware present it should work.

Thanks for confirming that, any sources/links that i can look at? Im in the UK so the esim will not be of any use to me atm but if i can pair it to my phone and make and recieve calls that way that'd be great.

Yes you should be fine with the 3g version, but the non-3g version doesn't have a speaker so you need bluetooth headset for calls with that model.

Hello, I'm on AT&T and I want to get the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE but I see there is two and im curious about whats the diference? I know the W200a is the AT&T watch and the W200 is an unlocked overseas watch im guessing that will work on AT&T but im hearing If I get the W200 I wont get the LTE, is this true?

The W200A, the AT&T version, is unlocked and also works overseas. I'm currently in France visiting family and I'm using a Truphone SIM in my W200A with no problems. The W200E is the European version with 3G. I wouldn't worry too much about LTE. I'm usually on HSPA when home in the US and it works fine. I occasionally get a LTE signal but not sure what advantage it offers. I don't use AT&T so I'm on Truphone at home also.
Do you guys have your regular phone number forwarded to the watch. I been trying to win one on ebay but the price is so high i might as well buy from AT&T they sell it outright for 350

Most of the time I'm paired by bluetooth so I leave the cell off on the watch to save battery. When I do leave the phone behind and pair through cell data, usually when tracking runs by GPS a few times a week, I forward my phone calls to the watch's number. I also turn on audio feedback to have my texts dictated to me through the headset while running.

I am using W200A in UK and it is working perfectly. However, the 4G network is not working as it is not compatible with the UK 4G frequencies. But, I don't care as I won it in an auction for £160 (with leather band ) and it working great in HSPDA+.

You've got me interested. I'm in the UK and could do with some info if you've got a min. First thing, £160 through an auction?! Like where??
I'm on Vodafone and want to be able to leave the phone at home when I go running, gym etc but need to be able to still take calls, how is this done? Do you have a duplicate SIM fitted for the same number or a different SIM which calls and messages are forwarded to? Also, does it receive notifications from WhatsApp?
Last Q is if you're without your phone can you either stream Spotify playlists to the watch via LTE/3G or can you at least download playlists to the watches internal memory and play tunes over Bluetooth headphones? gain aimed at being in the gym.

It is possible to use the watch separately in some extent. As I understood, the watch can both connect to the phone by bluetooth or the cloud. It means that when I am outside without my phone, I can get notifications through the cloud (needs your phone and watch be connect to internet), but it takes a bit time to get the notifications. I put a data sim in, so I don't know about the call and sms transfering. I only test the phone call and sms sending with the watch independent of the phone. It can get the whatsapp notification, but not image posts.
For the spotify, from my experience, with the watch you can only control playing of the songs played with your phone. However, it is possible to pair your headset with the watch to use the music player of the watch. But, i couldn't make spotify play the songs from the watch to bluetooth headset connected to the watch.
But, I think all of these would be possible with android wear 2.0 which will be released very soon by Google.

- Can you upload your own mp3's to the watches internal memory and play them independently (using a standalone watch app) from the watch to bluetooth headphones? I'm looking to not take my phone into the gym.
- if I don't have my phone in the gym will the watch still track my activity and then upload the data when it pairs again with the phone?
- which version of the watch did you get? W200A or W200E?

I am in the US and have the W200A version. I was able to use my Truphone SIM in the watch successfully when I was visiting family in France on the Orange and SFR networks. I believe France and the UK have similar frequencies. You should be able to use HSPA+ on the 2100 band. Of course W200E will have additional bands, 900 and 1800 I believe. W200A does not have these. I use mine to track runs with GPS without my phone. I forward my calls to the watch's number during runs. I also use Google Play to transfer songs/playlists to my watch and listen through bluetooth headphones. I don't believe Spotify allows you to stream music yet but that might change with 2.0 later this year. I use the ghostracer app to track runs. Runs sync to the phone after saving them. Ghostracer will then sync directly to Strava, runkeeper and Smash Run. I use SyncMyTracks Android app to sync across to multiple platforms after that.

- You can sync your phone music with the watch, but with a clean memory, watch free space is 2.2GB. So there is no so much space for music. But, I think you can use Google music cloud, if you happy for paying that.
- I have not tracked any kind of activity, so can't answer this.
- I have W200A. I bought from ebay.com (US)
- The strap is like other rubber watches. The internal surface is rubber and for me, the outside is leather. I feel comfortable, personally.
Does anyone know what 3G and LTE bands the W200, W200E and W200A use? I could only find sketchy vague info on the net about it.

I bought a W200E here in France officially imported in an Orange store. The box states "2nd edition 3G", and supported bands : 2G 900/1800, 3G 900/2100.
No LTE on this version.
The W200A uses 850/1700, W200 uses 1800 and the W200E doesn't support LTE

I know, the UB2 LTE is so different from UB they should be separate. I think though the counter argument is this forum is pretty quite.

Yeah i notice is very quite. But so are some of the other smart watches forums too. Like the gear s2 and gear s3. Yet they got their separated forums hmmm
I have a question that I have not been able to find the answer to. I want to purchase a s2 3g but use it as a wifi bluetooth watch. I want the bigger battery and gps. If i were to buy it from, say, amazon, would i have to activate it on the carrier to use it, or could i just use it just like the normal s2?

i believe the answer is no you do not need to activate it on the carrier but you will not be able to forward calls as far as i know.

It'll work fine thru Bluetooth as long as call forwarding isn't turn when you set it up. As long as you don't turn that on should be golden

I've got the 3g AT&T version. Check Best Buy site, Found mine with No contract for $149.00! (Yes I think it was a error on the site!) Anywho, the watch gives you the option to set up the phone number but without the SIM being active it will not save the settings. Everything else works fine via the bluetooth connection including the speaker-"phone" from the watch during calls.
I really like it, but kinda miss my gear live... just wish tinzen played better with android like my gear live did.

You should be able to turn off cellular connectivity, and use Bluetooth to use it as a non 3G version.

Yes. It will work as the sport bluetooth model but has the speaker feature..
