Developing - General Questions and Answers

My phone, Gt-S7500L (galaxy ace plus) isn't so famous among the Android owners, so there are many custom roms. We dont have Cyanogemmod, and its is a sad thing, but im actually trying to port it from the galaxy ace throught the android kitchen. I m afraid of bricking my phone, so my question is if i use the STOCK kernel in the custom ROM that i'm porting, is there any chance of HARD brick(softbrick isnt a real problem,i backuped the OS)? I know! Custom rom without custom kernel may dont make sense, beu we, ace plus owners, are desperate.
Thank u :good:

bricked= bootloader corrupted if you don't touch bootloader nothing happens
maybe you think about a hardware failure ..this is possible when porting a rom
to port a rom is not about copy/paste files from somewhere if you see kitchen has "experimental support" for porting it can help you to "put things together" I mean to root that rom and add some features then pack in a flashable .zip format but you need a rom for that ! kitchen can help you to port in the case you get Cyanogenmod sources for a device that is almost the same as hardware specs with yours

never try to install other phones firnwares
every phone has a specific hardware and software.
never try to install other phones fiwares, it may cause your device dead or sth. if you are a programmer edit your own firmware.
if you want gingerbread rom go through cianogenmod7 or kyrillos10.
those two roms are in alpha stage but stable.
porting..

I said it is impossible because it is VERY difficult, not really impossible.
However ther will not be any significant improvement to our GB stage:
1) When you port a rom you will need at least to replace original drivers with your device ones => If the driver for GB is still not ready that particular feature will not work even if it used to in the original rom (ie: b/w preview in camera in CM7)
2) Performances will be surely lower compairing to a rom that was compiled from source
At last i suggest not to ask developers to start porting a rom because they are pretty busy with lots of projects right now.

[Q] custom ROM for gt-s5830i

I have bought a galaxy ace and unfortunately it is gt-s5830i which hasn't got any custom roms till now as far as I know isn't there anything that be done to overclock this phone over 832mhz. ickyyy wrote that we can use the roms of galaxy y but it would have some bugs such as camera would not work. ickyyy if you are reading then please help me I can bare some bugs but I am mainly excited to overclock my phone. In one of your posts I found the clockmodrecovery and have backed up my phone please can you suggest me that whether should I use a ROM of galaxy y and if the bugs are too much for me can I restore my phone (as it is my first Android and I have bought it 3 Weeks before and haven't used Odin etc).
Also it would be a great help if you tell me or just give a link to the full and the easiest easiest way of flashing.
My advice is don't risk to flash ROM's for galaxy Y.It has the same hardware, however it's not 100% sure that it won't kill your phone. The display resolution is different. It may be posible that you would be able to flash and run it but it has no point. For overclocking you need a custom kernel which.Flashing a kernel for a different device may be very dangerous as it can kill your phone with no chance of reviving it.Just wait some time and there will be custom roms, kernel and everything for s5830i and you'll be able to overclock it.Many people are currently trying to port some ROMs and developing kernels but there are no good developers for this phone yet so it's very hard and slow...don't rush it!Use the stock rom.Samsung must release a new update to optimize applications and the videocore IV so it should give better FPS on games and etc...
hi ickyyy .
where are DEVs . why they dont work on s5830i ?
there are a lot of people waiting for a custom rom for 5830i !!!!
sorry for my english .

[Q] Device unsupported by custom rom. anyway to install?

I'm somewhat new to the whole idea of rooting an android device, and flashing custom roms. I've rooted my phone successfully, but there doesn't seem to be a custom rom tailored to my phone anywhere on the web. Is there any way I could use a custom rom (looking at CyanogenMod) for a different device on my own?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Centura (SCH-S738C)
Carrier: StraightTalk
Android Version: ICS 4.0.4 (Stock OS)
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-1207620 (Original Phone Kernel)

U can port ur own rom for ur device from the custom rom of a similar device with same specs if available with the help of dozens of tutorial in xda.
But you ll have to put a lot of hardwork on learning and implementing it, also have to sacrifice much of ur time. Indeed if you don't wanna do that, just wait until some devs to come up to cook rom for ur device if ur device model is new
Hit thanks rather than typing it

I think I'll take a look at some of the tutorials and give that a go. I aim to have as much control over my device as possible.

Generally not. (Compiled) Roms can be "ported" kinda easy if both phones have the same specifications. Porting (compiled) roms to phones with different specifications is a lot of work (you will need at least the kernel sourcecode and create a device specific kernel) or not possible. Flashing a rom to a not compatible phone will either brick the phone or beeing refused by the phone/recovery/flashtool.

[Q] verykool Spark II s5015 ROM Question

Hello,
With the recent Android M coming out soon, I wanted to try to find a custom ROM to flash onto my Android Phone. It's the VeryKool Sparks II s5015. However, being as it's not very much supported, I'm having issues finding ROM's etc for Lollipop custom builds. Does anyone have any idea's where I could get one? Or what? CM 12 doesn't appear to be compatible.
hey bro, your phone it's compatible but there are no developers working on your specific device, thats the reason for that you can't find a ROM... Whatever your phone have MTK Chipset, install cpu-z app from playstore and see what model is. example mine device is mt6572. when you sure know your device chipset can download custom rom from here: http://_www.mtkroms.com_/ and here: http://_www.mtkcrom.blogspot.com_/ (delete the "_" on URL) obviously you have to ported first for your device, but don't worry, there are tutorials on the pages.
finally sorry for my bad english and... do all things at your own risk, if i helped you click the "thanks" button
