I know I've read a couple threads regarding modems in this community and recall seeing a couple folks posting that they live/work in St.louis. curious which modems your having the best luck with in this area. I live and work in the city, on GB, kd5 I feel I got the best performance from, but wondering if you st louis cats were using something else. Thanks for all yous hard work!

I live in South County, and I've been using KJ6 for a while with really no issues. I'll try out KD5 and let you know if there's any difference between the two. We don't live too far apart, so I think we're likely to have similar results from each particular modem. Can you link me where you've found a KD5 MTD modem? I can't find it here.
You can't find it because KD5 doesn't exist haha. It's either KB5 or KD1

Sorry for the confusion , I should've been more clear. I'm still running stock cm9 modem, asking about other mtd modems, as I am looking for better performance, not that its horrible, but could be better

At the moment you'll only have a choice of 3 modems, KJ6 (which comes with most ICS roms), KG4 (which I prefer due to lack of long sms problems) and KD1 (which was a Froyo modem).
You can find all these on the Padded MTD modems part of the modems thread. You can find a link to this thread in my signature.

FB, so KG4 and KD1 modems will work with stock CM9 ? I am having difficulty getting good signal with stock KJ6. Is the KJ6 mentioned in the modem thread different than the one from the stock CM9 ?

Sorry people but Im still a Noob.... Dumb question time.
I'm Running the stock FROYO 2.2 and was wondering if I could flash any KB1 kernel on it?
For ex:
[KERNEL] stock+Voodoo stable 5.x for Captivate
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870760
[KB1]eXistZ Captivate Kernel #8[28MAR][Voodoo Sound 7, Lagfix & Color][OC/UV]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988805
[KERNEL][KB1]OverStock v1.2 341MB, Voodoo Sound, Color, Lagfix, BLN 3/23/2011
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989298
And if so, What would be a stable, reliable Kernel? Thanks
Some more info on my phone: Baseband version= I897UCKB1
Build number= FROYO.UCKB1

Are you stock stock? lagfix? rooted?
Those will all work. being stock the first kernal you flash will have to be a .tar version with the full version of Odin (ensure you have 3 button combo)
My current favorite is Onix. Works great and is very stable. Plus it add UV and OC features. AND gets updates all the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930679 flash the .tar from here, for Onix
Then flash an i9000 modem.
Yup, I'm runnin stock, rooted and have the supercurio voodoo lagfix kernel. But I'm lookin for somthin different that might speed up my phone... I've never done any OC/UV so I'm not to worried about that that much haha
Thanks man

That kernel has clockwork.........so you don't need to use a .tar version.
Use the CWM versions put to the root of your SD and flash with clockwork Recovery
Even if your not into OC/UV the kernal is still great at stock settings.
So its as easy as flashing from CWM?

Sure is.

Oh and the onix kernel is an i9000 based kernel. Does that matter at all if I'm runnin a kb1 modem? Cuz I've been reading that we shouldn't mix kernels

edit: Sorry, I re-read your last question.
If you choose to run an I9000 kernel then you need to match an I9000 modem to it.
They are a simple CWM flash as well. there is a thread on here somewhere with all the current 2.1,2.2 and I9000 modems in it. Just do a search
Here is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835272

I have read that others have done it with little success. Any reason why you are holding back from just flashing a full ROM. You are almost there and quite frankly, I think you are safer going with a prepacked ROM over putting pieces together on your own. If you are comfortable with rooting and CWM then you have nothing more to learn to do a full ROM flash. I have never looked back since I first flashed. I've tried several and would say my favorites so far are Serendipity and FireFly. If you want to stay more Stock like, Cognition is also really great stuff.
Ok thanks guys.... Ill look into that

Even with the prepacked roms most people do not leave them alone, and mod and change the guts of them to their taste.
I don't see how learning to change things one part at a time is a bad thing, as you learn how everything works together, and will have a better understanding of it as a whole.
That's true.... but ill look into a rom haha.... hopefully I don't become an addict haha jk

Get something designed to work together first. That gives you an easy start and stability out of the box.
After that, and after making a backup (get a backup right after you root and install cwm, then again after you successfully flash your first rom), you should feel fairly confident in trying out different kernel/modem combos.
Just remember that if you're using an i9000 kernel, you must use an i9000 modem. Likewise if you are using a captivate kernel, you should pair it with a captivate modem (kb1).
Here's an excellent list of kernels and modems and the safe combinations.
And, of course, there's always the modem thread.
Nice! Thanks man

This is NOT a full ROM, only the modem. It will not mess with your current ROM/data.
Here is the KH1 modem from Krylon's ROM leak. It is available in Odin and CWM flashable packages depending on your preference. Attached to this thread is Odin version 1.85, to my knowledge the latest version (at least the version I use).
I am not responsible if you brick/break/blow up your phone.
Odin Package: Here
CWM Package: Here
If you are unsure how to use Odin to flash the modem see this thread. If you are unsure how to use CWM to flash the modem, then please stop now and go watch some T.V., leave your phone alone.
Thanks for CWM version. Updated my Dr honk powered Kg4 rom with this modem.
So does this modem help with the weak wifi signal on KG4?
were is the modem at?
were is the link for the modem so i can test it out.
I just flashed the CWM version on Audiophile Bump in the trunk with no problems.

You can check what modem you have installed by going to settings > about phone and looking at baseband version. Should say "KH1" toward the end if you just flashed the KH1 ROM.
Says KH1, All is well.
I flashed the CWM version yesterday.
I'm running Audiophile Bump in the Trunk.
A couple hours ago I went into our market app to browse and while there the MARKET automatically updated on my phone.
I believe it recognized my phone as a gingerbread phone because I ended up with a high definition (tv like) market app with a new icon. It looked and functioned GREAT...I want it!
But my phone got laggy and just a little buggy. My quadrant went from mid 1600's to mid 900's so I just uninstalled the updates and my phone is behaving normally. It has the mid 1600 quadrant again.
However now gmail tries to update and I'm getting "Package file was not singed correctly"
I have my froyo gmail and all is well. I'm not sure if the update is for gingerbread and I'm on froyo so it won't update or if I'm not receiving a froyo update.
Has this happened to anyone?
My market upgraded itself too. I'm using kg6+ kh1 modem and kg4 kernel.. Not sure about lag or scores..

I got this KH1 modem on my Samsung Infuse 4G and the battery life just amazing. I think I also posted it on samsung infuse 4G section. Once I fully charged the phone after 4 hours it still have 100%.
My friend has the HTC Sensation 4G, do you know if this KH1 will work on HTC phones? He has bad battery life also.

Highly doubt it would work on any brand of phone that isn't Samsung, would probably cause all kinds of problems. Wouldn't advise you try it.

Hi,
Please don't burn me about a new post I've done a lot of phone research to get to the Infuse. The options for an "android development newb" are many. And not sure what a kernel and Rom is...Rom is the operating system right?
Basically looking for a stable/best operating system with priority in audio quality for headphones.
Ive read abit about the Voodoo for the wolfson chip in the Infuse. Read about a leaked version of Android 2.3.5 available but it may have some 'rainbow' effect?..
Basically trying to find the best rom, kernel and whatever, their are so many.
Thanks.
EDIT: Looking to use 'Voodoo control plus' app and 'Voodoo Screen Tuning' app so need compatible rom & kernel.
It really is going to be personal preference all the roms I have tried are pretty damn stable I have seen people really liking caty rom though prob try that first
Other popular one I used to see in google searches was MIUI, infused might be good, is it closer to stock ROM? Stock roms are probably safer ie not losing BT?
Interested in this [KERNEL]Community Kernel v8 - (7/17/11) - Voodoo sound v10
Catyrom and numas are infuse stock based roms like infused....everything works

So the opp could not use of of the other threads about the same thing?

samfirmware I997UCKI4 - Anything better/newer than this? No rainbow effect?
Did AT&T ever release official Gingerbread version?
UCKI4 is way old....we are up to UCKL2

So is ROM I997UCKL2 [2.3.6] stock, reliable, likely to work with apps?
EDIT want a good stock app not one messed with (not insult) Messed with could be improvement.
Umm yes...its stock infuse rom

Going from this download list; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293751
"ROM" in the download title indicates it's stock (from Samsung or AT&T) & the one that says ie "Stock UCKJ4 [Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox] [2.3.6]" is the stock rom with things done to it like rooted??
Is video fine on KL2?

Video only works with that rom if you have the correct kernel I do believe.
I would suggest going here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021 and downloading the one with 3e recovery. That enables access to modifications such as voodoo control, while maintaining a stable stock environment. The simplest voodoo kernel you can use is the voodoo community kernel, which can be found in the infuse super thread under the android development section of this forum.
Hope this helps!
I am also new to the Infuse. I had the AT&T Captivate that I was able to flash to Rogers 2.2 and it was great. Rogers allows more control of the phone and was very stable. I then got greedy and tried to flash a Rogers GB rom and bricked my phone. I read that the Infused rom is based on Rogers but it seems to have some bugs.

No bugs in Infused. The Rogers firmware doesn't have HDMI support, because the Rogers phone doesn't have HDMI out. Other than that, Infused is the best stock ROM for this phone. Once AT&T releases GB, we'll probably get another update, but there's no bugs. If you flashed an Infuse ROM on a Captivate, well... there's your problem. I can't tell from your post if that's what happened or not.

I disagree that the infused is the best ROM. Its a good ROM, but IMO CatyRom or Numas, are better. I ran infused for a long time as well as a lot of Ports. The Ports are fun, lots of customization and bells and whistles, but the 2 I mention as well as the infused are the best for what you're looking for I think.
Infused is outdated though.
I prefer these because they are native to infuse.
I suggest
1) CatyRom
2) Numas
3) Infused v2.3.3
The ICS version of Caty has a MIUI music player that is awesome. Also there is a free app called audio FX that I use for an eq and its great.
X,
Sent from my flashy Infuse.
Might try Catyrom, but probably will one of the latest leaks "ROM I997UCKL2 [2.3.6]" or "UCKL2[Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox, and CRT off]" I'm led to believe theyr both stock.
If I go with first UCKL2 I will need to root it to run the voodoo apps. If I root it will I lose video and HDMI? If so how do you fix it? Would I be better to go with the latter UCKL2 (already rooted)?
Note I may be upgrading from froyo (I havent got the phone yet).
Also not sure on the flashing procedure, I found this; any good or bit outdated? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318160

You can flash any rom but if you flash a gingerbread rom you will need to have the correct bootloaders. Fbis251 has an excellent starter pack that you should check out. Valhalla is the only gb rom I liked. It is good others are equally as good.

Having come from the fascinate, there were different modems and some worked better that others. Was just wondering if the charge had different modems (4g/3g) and which ones performed better (connectivity, speed etc)
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Personally I think that the current ones are the best, but then again I never really had issues with any of them like we had with one of the Fassy's we have.
That being said, others have said that they have seen improvement with this or that depending on where they are I guess.
I do not know of a list for the Charge Radios and that will make it somewhat difficult to find them all. The best bet if you are looking to switch up is to search for Radios and go through the threads....
Or stick with the newest...
Froyo: ED1 (Shipped with), ED2, EE4 (OTA)
GB: EP1F, EP1H, EP1Q, EP1W, EP3HA, EP4P, EP4D (OTA)
those should be most if not all leaked and OTA radios, all radio packages contain both CDMA (3G) and LTE (4G) parts so there is no mix and match... personally the newer GB ones work better for me, but you'd have to try all of them as different phones work differently
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
I have tried EE4, EP1W, EP3HA, EP4P, EP4D and found the latest (OTA) EP4D to be the best for me
