How does the official update routine work? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Can anyone tell me how the official update routine works?
Where I work we have a number of HTC Radars, these were all delivered with 7720 installed, a number of these suffer from the dissapearing keypad problem, up until a few weeks ago we just connected them to Zune and they updated to 7740 then 8107 and the problem went away, now we find with any handsets we connect to Zune they check and say they are up to date (7720) - vodafone cannot identify the problem and passed us to HTC, HTC are now blaming Microsoft, I have updated one via cab sender etc and it works fine so that gives us a way forward, however I am curious to know how the official routine works so I can possibly identify who is at fault and kick some a$$
Thx
Max

[Q] HD2 ROM update and Radio issues -Plz help

Hi everyone
I got my HD2 an year ago. Its an awesome device and was working fine untill the time I thought of updating the original ROM of the phone. And as there are no official ROM updates in India, so I did this using HardSPL. I update my phone's ROM to "Elegencia GTX - V 2.0 Final WWE". The ROM update was successful. But there were a lot of issues with call reception and sms functionality. The phone use to freeze on receiving any call. On searching a little I found that the issue was the original Radio of my phone which was 2.05.51.05_2 . And so I installed a newer Radio which I downloaded from xda itself. Since then I am facing a lot of problems in the sms functionality of my phone. Now I have tried almost all the updated versions of Radios available in
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
but all in vain. Some radios does not allow me to send or receive sms to some of my friends and some of them freezes the phone on receiving a phone call. Now I am using Radio version 2.11.50.20, there is no problem in this Radio except for some of my friends says that they receive my single message three times and that too only the first part of the sms. And some times I receive a notification "Unable to send message".
I am not technically an expert, but would like to know the issue with my phone. I really dont want to rollback on the original ROM as I want to know the solution rather than always being in a doubt.
Please help me out in this situation. And also let me know in case you need any other info for your convenience to get a better understanding.
I really hope you will help me out.
Thanks

[Q] Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.5. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. I tried but with no luck (
Any ideeas??
so what exactly is your question and what does it have to do with the apps and games thread?
I tried too! But nothing. No updates...
its UK only...
I am in uk and seems like there is no update yet for us...
I have received this upgrade and have had nothing but trouble since installing it. I was wondering if there was a way I can put my phone back to the way it was?
Basically, since the update, the only difference in my phone that I notice is an app called "Dock" which is basically a new screen for when you are driving. I have had nothing but trouble receiving calls or texts and at worst, I have received texts 26 hours after they were sent. My work depends on my company being able to contact me at any given time which, since the update, they have had a great difficulty doing.
Is there any way I can roll back the phone to the previous software as HTC and my network company are shockingly bad at making any attempt to solve the problem?
Thanks

Strange problem with Speed Dial

Hi,
I have a Desire S on O2 UK, I was completely stock with S-ON and no root. I installed most recent update to 1.47 and this FUBAR'd the phone (kept dropping off mobile network and not reconnecting automatically) so I used the method from this thread '[UPDATED]how to root 1.47.161.2 hboot 002 (and possibly others)' to flash it back to 'RUU_Saga_O2_UK_1.31.206.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38 .03.02.14_M_release'.
I then carried on and used AlphaRevX to S-Off, flashed the Ext4 recovery image and used Gingerbreak to root.
Now when I press and hold 1 on the phone dialler instead of calling my voicemail it calls a fixed speed dial number that I can't change, bizzarely it is assigned to 123 and titled Buzon Movistar!! Key 5 is assigned to 112/Emergencias and key 6 1004/Atencion Cliente.
Does anyone know where these are coming from or how I change it back to the proper numbers?
Thanks
I flashed the pre-rooted Stock HTC 1.28 ROM and this has fixed the problem. Would love to know where those speed dial numbers came from.
I think I can answer this for you..
I've experienced the same problems as you, and HTC have only just recently started admitting there's an issue.
I'm also on O2 UK, but O2 is owned by Telefonica - a Spanish company. The ROM you downgraded to is likely to be the Spanish version and their voicemail code will be 123 rather than 901. So I would very much imagine the ROMs are exactly the same across Europe bar these few local changes.
(123 in the UK is in fact the talking clock, but I guess dialling 901 manually or assigning it to another speed dial would be a small price to pay for having your phone actually work!)
To date, there's no official fix from HTC. Downgrading the ROM is currently the only way that people have been reporting getting their full signal and phone capability back. HTC do not support this and are only replacing motherboards for the same problem to continue.
Nice one, that makes perfect sense but it never crossed my mind.
Hopefully they will release a post 1.47 update that fixes the problem-I'm frankly staggered that such a bad update could be released.
I confirm that flashing back to a stock 1.28 ROM fixes the issue (for me anyway).
Thank you sir.
My absolute pleasure, it's been nice to be able to add a slither of insight into what's becoming a major problem for many.
In the meantime, there's a thread on the Android Forums you might find interesting. Having less than eight posts on here I can't link to it but search on the terms:
"396171-signal-drops-completely-htc-desire-s"
..and you will find it. It's the latest place to my knowledge where we're being able to pool updates. O2 - and possibly HTC too - have seen this thread at least once and know it exists.

[Q] Titan 8107 laggy issues.

I am running a Titan, unlocked on Orange UK and have updated the OS to 8107 thru CAB files... I couldnt wait / be bothered for Orange to release it thru Zune if at all.
Yes, keyboard bug is gone. Speaker is louder. Havent noticed an improved battery life yet, I normally charge mine during the day.
But I find the phone now slower and a bit more laggy. Sometime when I change to from the main screen / menu the tiles are empty for a few moments while it thinks and populates them.
Data connection also very very slow at times, have restarted the phone more in the last week than I have in months. This is predominantly on Wi-Fi.
Also, was this update meant to fix the message forwarding bug on Hotmail (yes, I know the update says Exchange). Its doesnt for me, Big, BIG issue. There is a small workaround ... to forward just hit reply and delete the originators email address and add a new one. Problem is, any attachments are removed.
Why on earth does a MS Product (WP7) NOT support another MS Product (Hotmail)?
Any ideas and suggestions on the laggy issue would be really appreciated, considering downgrading.
?
I guess no one else is having this problem. It was fine before the upgrade, just thinking of taking a gamble and resetting and reinstalling.
Also saw this article http://wmpoweruser.com/orange-uk-rogers-canada-delivering-8107-update-now/ stating that 8107 is being rolled out via Orange.
Any other thoughts or advice? I dont want to loose all my recent settings, SMS etc. on a whim.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I have the verizon HTC trophy with 8107, interop unlocked, and I too have noticed lag every now and then. Especially when using wifi on IE. Have to reload a site ten times because it keeps timing out or I'll have to load another page and then go back to the one that won't load. I haven't noticed the speaker being louder or any battery improvements, but I definitely notice the lag.
I had a similar problem but already in trouble

New update today

HTC at this time began the release of a new firmware update for your smartphone Windows Phone 8 top of the line, HTX 8X.
The new firmware release for the HTC 8X is identified by the version number 1532.20.20105.401 and is also accompanied by a bootloader update to version 0.0.1532.20 passing (165610) and software radio switches to version 1.14b.32.19.06_15.42.32.19
Tthe first thing noticed is how the memory identified as more went from 4.50 GB to 2.40 GB, releasing more than 2 GB of internal memory. HTC has not released any information about the improvements made, judging from what some Verizon users that they are receiving the update, this update resolves problems related to Skype calls, the error "SIM card not detected" and a bug related to the management of battery when you turn on and then turn off sharing internet.

I have also noticed that since this update, the Bluetooth on my 8x works much more reliably with my BMW, for voice calls.
I just installed the update, will try to find any changes. Hopefully they can sort out a little bit in the Other memory partition. That partition is killing me!
