"omg, a newb asking an apk question, KILL HIM!" - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

I know I know... There are a lot of things I am good with... android...is new for me.
I have a galaxy note and I dont know the first thing about .apk files or rooting, etc.... I dont mind the way it works now... BUT
I want S Voice. (duh)
as you can see from my sig... Its be A WHILE since I have hacked/modded phones. Then I went to the iPhone for a few models and now I am back...
I downloaded "apkinstaller" and "appinstaller" but niether will load the apk I got off of xda.
I loaded the .apk to my external sd and made enables the ability to load apps that arent from the android market.
Do I need to delete something? Or what... I really need someone to give me a "step by step, you're an idiot" way of getting this done. I really dont want to root my phone if I dont have to.
Thanks to anyone who helps!

you shouldnt need to root to install apk's as long as you have checked off ability to install apps that arent from market. I have been doing that from my dropbox since my phone was stock everything. Maybe the apk is broken. Try downloading it again. Maybe even try downloading another apk just to test if it installs properly.

I will try that now.

- Download APK
- Open a File Manager (ES File Explorer or something)
- Tap the APK
Done.

actually I dont think that S Voice is an apk. From what I read quickly is that it needs to be flashed via CWM. Which is a bit more complicated than installing an apk.

This is the one I JUST downloaded (dl'd this one to my phone)... not working.

I dont really have the time to read up on all of it but from what I have you may need to be rooted and remove voice talk first. I think a few of the custom ROMS also have S Voice installed on them already. This is a trickier apk than usual. Would be great if someone with more experience on S Voice would jump in and show you the steps. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

not sure if this needs to be pushed to system/app rather than installed?
if it won't install I'm sure you'll need to be rooted.

say what? (told you I am a newb)

it is, in this state (unrooted), impossible to get it working.
You need to have root-acces (which you stated you don't have), because you have to replace the usual voice talk with the S-voice application.
You can of course root your phone, read up, and install the mod.

OMG you're such a NOOB! Kidding, just kidding. Well no actually, but that's just how it is
Just follow this guide which also has screenshots of the procedure. Yey to you!

(App) Market 3.1.6 download

I have made an install zip for the Android Market 3.1.6 which seems to be working well. No problems with downloads or payment options. Please feel free to download and leave comments. This is my first foray in the Android arena so please no flames, YMMV. The usual disclaimers, I take no responsibility if this bricks your device, etc... Hope it helps some and if it does please give thanks/credit.
Dude this version has been out for a long time now and its not even the newest version of it
Please search first and stop spamming!
No spam intended, I know this is not the newest version of the ap but 3.2 is not working for many. I just posted to help anyone who upgraded and needed to roll back to a working version. For me (and many others) 3.2 does not allow you to purchase aps, free works fine but purchase is not working. Again no spam intended and this is a working zip and ap.

Yes just unzip the file and copy the Vendor.apk using root explorer (or whatever ap you are using) to the system\app folder, reboot and you're good to go.

You missed the intent of the post. Granted the OP did not do a great job explaining it, but this is not spam...
He made this zip version so people can easily revert to this version of market if you are using my series of ROMS. Mine have 3.2.0 and that is a screwed up version. If you flash this zip it will resolve that by killing the old version and replacing it with this version. He made it into a zip to simplify the process.
And remember, if you dont like the post, simply dont respond. No need to come in and start flaming and acting like a tough guy. Just ignore what you dont like and move on.

Has anyone successfully installed Google Now on their rooted Skyrocket. I rooted my phone today just for this purpose and its been a no go. I have tried what some of the threads have explained but no luck. I sure would like to be able to do this. Although im a noob im not afraid to try things. Any help would be appreciated.

Use the Mikey V7 one. I'm not sure what the procedure you followed is but if you get the velvet m7 apk from that post, you simply replace the Google quick search apk with the one provided. Be sure to backup your current apk first.
I believe it's located in system/app, but obviously find the exact instructions first, just pointing you in the direction. There's a Google now thread here in the SR section. I believe the apk linked there is outdated but the instructions are correct. Be sure to adjust permissions to match the original Google quick search.

How do I do this. When I go to storage it tells me I have 9.32 GB of free space but when I try to install the apk it tell me I only have 19 MB of free space
Before doing anything, you need to make sure you have at least 60MB of free space on your /system partition for Offline/Online files and 30MB of free /system space for Online Only files.
You'll have to delete some system apps or move them to sd to make room
OR
or you could use Sean's skyics. Google now is pretty much flawless on it, and it's a great rom. Much easier route imo

If you're on GB then you can simply extract the AllShare.apk from a ROM that has it or go in one of lumins thing and look for the APK. IF it fails to install try pushing it and fixing permissions. It will most likely fail because it has Samsung proprietary stuff so just follow Lumins guide if nothing goes into plan.
If it doesn't work at all then I'm sorry, it might need other proprietary stuff like Swype.

Today is your lucky day...
I had to flash back to stock, and I remembered this thread, lucky you.
so... here is the apk, not sure it will work because is may have dependencies, but try it out.
apk does not say AllShare, but the icon matches the app in the drawer.
if it won't install, push it to the system\apps folder with a root file explorer.

Just curious, did it install or did you have to push it?
I was afraid that would be the case. It most likely has touchwiz and other proprietary Samsung files it depends on. Possibly even the kernel like wifi calling.

You can see in logcat when an apk won't install because it is missing something -- and it will usually say what. I've seen clear logcat indications that TW libraries are what is missing on Memo.apk, for example.

Very true, not going to complain too much and all I had to do was drop a few files. I renamed all the other folders/files it was supposed to overwrite so all is good, didn't need to take a nandroid or anything. Pretty nifty feature to have and takes stock rooted one step closer to JB.

First find out if its ICS or gingerbread ROM. Than look around the blaze dev. Pg., and read-up on the great ROMs available. Follow instructions to the T when installing whatever you choose and make sure you create a backup in cwm FIRST. Happy flashing
Flashing another ROM will fix the touchwiz thing, you don't need it unless you really want it.

I uninstalled superuser app and now it shows that I don't have root access. I fixed the thouchwhiz problem by just using the go launcher app. Now the only problem is that I want some of my tmobile apps back like mobitv and Polaris office. Is the only way to get them back just by getting them from the play store?
Two choices: get it from the play store (if available) or follow the instructions chjema posted. It flashes the original build and will get everything back as if purchased new.
