Nexus infinity? Lol - Asus Transformer TF700

I just called office Depot about seeing if they had the infinity in stock, and after about 3 minutes of searching the women says "no, but we do have the nexus infinity in stock" I laughed and said thank you, but golly I wish this tablet was true

I totally sign this. I really would love to have a 10" Nexus Tablet. With a dock.

Tiny keyes...hell no lol.
If there was a Nexus tablet with a 1080p screen and was 10", I'd be all over it.

I never said I wanted a 7" dock
With the extra bezel space (dock bezel, not tablet), I'd want speakers that were actually pointing at me, instead of away.

Hmmm not a bad idea. Yet, the keys would probably still need to be smaller to fit that. Or a much larger dock that won't fit the 7" size very well.

I'm a form follows function kind of guy. If Asus would hear me out, I'd have them take a 100% (same size) dock, but with a lid, containing speakers on either side and a slot in the middle of the lid for the tmini to slide into. As an extra bonus it would be even less top-heavy and more stable on uneven surfaces. I grant you, it wouldn't be the prettiest package without some finnessing, but I'd still prefer it.
Asus thinks the same way every one else does (7" tab means 7" keyboard), or at least they will until my infinity ships, and a day later they'll announce my ideal device :crying:
C'est la vie :silly:

Can the transformer be plugged into the dock either way?

Just wondering if the transformer could be plugged into the dock either way? As in can you also plug into the dock so that the screen is facing you while the keyboard is behind the screen. I would assume that you cannot but it would be nice if you could dock it both ways so that if you just want a stand and don't need the keyboard you could do it that way.
Man I hope the transformer prime does get released on the 9th and has sufficient stock! I was eagerly awaiting the original but after the crazyness trying to get one I just ended up getting a BBQ instead!
um.. no? you can use the dock as a stand the normal way as well.. just don't use the keyboard I do this quite often when watching videos. Well, I mean, I guess you could do it the other way if you wanted to break the pin connector? But assuming that you don't want to do that, no you can not do that.
Have fun with the Prime! I'll be watching it to see how the developers do with it.. won't be picking one up though.
No need to assume anything. Try to insert the charging cable into the port the "other way" and see if it will fit.
Thanks for the reply. Yah I figured the connection would only work one way.
Really its not a big deal but it would be nice so you could have the screen right at the edge of the table you are putting it on. Really no biggie but was just wondering.
I don't blame you for not making the upgrade. If I had the original I doubt I would pull the trigger on the Prime either.

Yea that would be a good design if they had done that, I guess we need a separate case / stand for using it as a tablet for long periods without the dock
You should email ASUS with your idea

Haha, I was gonna suggest getting an ipad2. While you still can't put in the connection backward with the ipad2, at least you know the best tablet on the market, the one that everyone wants, can't do this and so it's forgivable.
My experience in this is that people tend to complain about everything in a less popular tablet while turn a blind eye on ipad2 weaknesses. Take light bleeds, for example. People have been crying bloody murder about TF light bleeds since day one. Most ipad2 users don't even care about their ipad2 light bleeds. And let me tell you, all devices with ips display have light bleeds.
Actually, let me suggest it now. If you want to be able to insert the connection in backwards, buy an ipad2.

For anyone who does not mind full retail price ($149), you can purchase it direct from Samsung: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/BKC-1C9USBGSTA
I am holding out for it to show up at more vendors. I suspect it will cost between $99 and $129 very quickly.
About the Samsung Keyboard (gorgeous, btw). Can you type on it and touch/pinch on the screen while it's upright? I mean, would it easily fall back? The rear support looks slippery/flimsy.

That's my only real concern also. The keyboard and case itself looks MUCH nicer than anything else on the market. I don't like cases that cover the sides of the screen (which the Samsung doesn't), and the keyboard looks larger and slimmer than any of the competitor's offerings.
Exactly and the YouTube video is crap, the thing lays flat nearly all the time...not helpful.

I have found it to actually be really quite sturdy, even on very slippery desk surfaces.
The stand itself is a quite ridged, yet has some flexability in that it wont snap under pressure.
The part of it that makes contatact with the desk or whatever is coated in a very grippy rubberized material that grips anything really sturdily.
It does not slipthats for sure.
So yea you can absolutely pinch and zoom while in laptop style angles on a desk, or leather couch.
The whole case is really thin and nicely designed, I also have the Vipertek slim leather case, and this is only very slightly thicker.
It does add quite a bit of weight to it, but its not to bad, and feels very solid.
The keyboard works pretty well, there is some quirks that I assume are related to androids implimentation of BT keyoards and hope to see addresed in ICS, but all in all I find it works pretty well.
When I bought it I was only really planning on using it when I knew I would need it for some reason, and still primarily have my tab in the Vipertek most of the time, but since I put my tab in, it has stayed in, and I don't think I will go back to my old case.
Can you flip the keyboard behind the screen and just use the screen say on your lap?

Nope, unfortunatly you cannot.
It almost goes all the way around but not quite.
That is probably one of the main drawbacks, but I have found it to be less of an issue then I thought it would be.
Thanks for the response. I use it in portrait mode a lot and don't always need the keyboard. I would definitely get this if it wasn't so expensive!

Using dock for first time?

Ok this is gonna sound really dumb but..i dont wanna break my 160 (with tax) dock before i get to use it. The connectors are facing towards the keyboard..as in not straight up where you can plug the tablet right in. The hinge doesnt seem to want to turn at all so i can insert the tablet. Is there something i need to do so it will move? Very confused...
EDIT : Figured it out . You just insert the tablet as it sits. Just didnt seem like it would have enough room to insert being in the fully closed position. Oops.
WOW. the build quaility on this dock is outstanding. I can't believe how nice it is! I expected a much, much more "tablet with a keyboard" like experience than this. Money well spent.

the only problem with the dock is that it just isnt heavy enough where the touchpad is- when i use mine on the train, it will fall over backwards if the train brakes too hard which is a bit annoying when playing dead trigger with my phonejoy

I planned to pick through some generic stands like this one before starting, so its good to know if one worked. I like that it had the cutout for the plug, which is my biggest general complaint on alot of stands. $10 on amazon too, not bad. I would prefer something I could attach the plug so that I could just insert the tablet and not have to worry about the cable flipping back and forth and so on. Ideally I'd like one for each of my offices and one for home on the bedstand or home office desk. So that one for $10 is pretty tempting.
This is an interesting one. It looks poorly executed, but the idea seems pretty good in principal.

This one looks promising. It has a nice big base that I could carve into and place a dock cable, then silicoln it all into place.

I hit the gym 5 days a week and I would use the hell out of this. But not like you see in the pic. I could use something like this in either my bedroom for movies or even playing games when using a wireless controller or my original thought was to set up behind my monitors and have my tablet "floating" about my wall of monitors on my desk at work.

My brain is about to explode i cant'd decide!!!

I just purchased a tf700 2days ago and i love it but always wishing it to have a pen digitizer , now that the galaxy note 10.1 is already available at bestbuy , the same place where i purchase my tf700 i'm going to return it and get the samsung. I really like the resolution on the asus but the productivity samsung offers using the digitizer is something thats hard to resist. I'm also using an ipad3 so i know how hard to go back to a low resolution like the samsung.
Is it a good move to replace it or just keep it?

Well, I think the Infinity with the keyboard dock (and a wireless mouse) is a super productivity device. I can't really see making that much use of the pen digitizer, so for me it's a no brainer...I would keep the Infinity. But it depends on what you think you'd get more use out of.
Good luck.

Since you have both....what do you prefer, screen resolution or battery life? Digitizer pen or a keyboard attachment? Plastic or aluminum shell? Use the devices and see which one preforms better.
You'll need to make the choice.

I say go with the Infinity, Samsung's update track record is horrible, and the plastic build quality is lacking compared to the Aluminum shell on the Infinity.

You guys really need to do some research. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I traded my Nexus for the Note on Friday and immediately fell in love. Of course, there are a few things I would change about the Note – there are a few things I would change about every smartphone. Aside from being stuck on Gingerbread (with TouchWiz no less), though, I have very little to complain about. And after spending just shy of a week with the phablet, I'm surprised by how much I actually find myself using what I thought to be the least notable feature of the Note, the S Pen (stylus).
Being a stylus, granted it is far better than your typical capacitive stylus and comes with additional functionality (the button), I honestly never thought I would use it all that much. I had no reason to hate it, like most people do, but I figured it would stay in its slot in the back of the phone. I've had my fair share of capacitive styluses (styli?) and found them to be no better than a shaky, inaccurate finger.
I knew the S Pen was different, but I doubted it could be that much different or better. I had tried it in passing (with a few demo units at CES and with Aaron's Note during his challenge), but a few minutes with it really doesn't do the S Pen any justice or give the users the full scope of its abilities.
So what makes it so much better than your average stylus? For one, it isn't capacitive; it's inductive. Using a capacitive stylus, if you touch your hand to the display while trying to write, your palm may also make marks on the display or cause the application to zoom in or out. Since the S Pen is inductive, when it is in use, capacitive input is shut off entirely until the S Pen is lifted from the screen, so you can rest your palm on the display without worrying. But it also has a tiny point about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, like resistive styluses of yesteryear. Capacitive styluses come with either felt or rubber tips, making them big and inaccurate.
Like I said, I literally thought I would never use the S Pen. But the Note has replaced the Nexus as my primary device, and I have noticed that I'm using the S Pen almost every time I turn the device on – which is very often. Even if I don't use it, I pull the S Pen out when I flip the cover (I'm using the Samsung Flip Cover on my Note, pictured above) around back and have it ready to go if I need it for a screen shot or a quick note.

I am charging them both to 100% before I really get into it with them.
What one do you think would have the better battery life?
The pen is a nice thing to have once and a while.
I will never buy the dock for the ASUS. I want a tablet not a mini computer.
The shell does not really matter to me. The Samsung does not really feel cheap or like it would break easily. If you drop one of them and it is damaged i am sure the other one would would not be in great shape either.
Is there a difference in the screen material?
Isn't having a Samsung and an Apple in the same household against the law or something...
