Device: Nexus s (unbranded, bought from carphonewarehouse uk)
Rooted: yes
Rom: Ns Collab
I was going from London to Amsterdam and I switched on flight mode.... i was listening to mp3s and was using volume keys to skip tracks and suddenly it went silent. I tried everything to turn it on... didnt happen... it gets stuck at Google logo on boot....
fastboot was working but CWM was not... so used adb to push new CWM from CMD (win vista) .... mounted sd .... but since the last 8 hours or so...
I copy a new rom e.g. MIUI or the stock one or new NS Collab or Cyanogen mod ... it shows me its copied but if i try to install it it says... can't read (bad) ...
When i restart my old stuff is back (the old NS collab on root directory which i was using). If i flash that rom it again gets stuck on boot google logo....
I have tried formatting everything... from CWM but after formatting i restart and everything is still there.. tried formatting the sd from windows after mounting from CWM but it shows it is formatted, try copying something and installing same error and if i restart my old stuff is still there....
I am unable to write anythign to sd.. well it shows that it has copied but actually it doesnt and if you turn the phone off or restart it everything is there - old data ... no use...
IT SEEMS AS IF MY PHONE IS IN SOME KIND OF WRITE PROTECT MODE LOLZ.... BUT PLZ URGENT HELP NEEDED ... I AM UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING... I AM WILLING TO PAY ANYONE IF PERSONAL HELP IS GIVEN (i.e remote help through team viewer or skype)....

revertback that unlock the phone then try it again unlock.
I would say the best way is lock your bootloader, and unlock it again as it will wipe all the data
I tried the following:
1. lock (fastboot oem lock)
2. unlock (fastboot oem unlock)
Nothing hapenned...
Downloaded the original firmware from samfirmware.com, flashed it ... nothing hapenned... still there is a boot freeze at google's logo ...
I am going to try reflash with odin... wait its not working now... first time it did... now it says failure....
what should i do now???
does anyone have update.zip file of the original firmware whic could be flashed via fastboot????
trying to format sd card
Guys the lock / unlock did not reap dividends....
I tried formatting sd card from:
1. CWM but after a restart the data is still there....
2. From windows which includes:
a) Quick format &
b) Complete format
Both these formats, I mean all of these options did not succeed, from windows it says format unsuccessful...
I think the internal sd card of the phone is, i dunno, somehow write protected or somehow malfunctioned.... i dunno how this hapenned cuz i was listening to music when it hapenned and it it just froze.....(read my 1st post)
Guys, if there is an option remaining please tell me cuz i am going crazzzzzyyyyyy....aaaaaarrrrrrhhhhhhhhh!!!!
I have tried:
1. Odin flash ---> failure
2. Tried copying a new rom and tried installing ---> failure
3. Flashed 2 seperate versions of CWM (crespo's and the latest ) both did not work, mean; i was not able to succesfully copy a new rom and flash it, everything i copy does not stay there after restart, or if i try to install before restart it gives error.... ---> failure
4. Locked the fastboot and unlocked it (not once, several times)..... ---> failure
All of the above did not work... the root cause of the problem is that i cant write on sd which is some sort of write failure but doesnt says so....
IF I WERE TO RETURN THE PHONE TO SAMSUNG/GOOGLE WARRANTY CENTRE WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THERE IS NO OTHER OPTON LEFT ???
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot oem lock
Does this reinstates my warranty right???
i can upload all image files for u to flash in fasfboot mode, recovery, system, boot, cache, data have u tries all of these????
There is a simple thing - you need to flash your Phone with the Odin in the Download mode, not through CWM.
Its gonna delete completely everything, including SD Card and then gonna rewrite the NAND with the stock ROM.
Afterwards root your phone and flash custom ROM.
P.S. Here is the latest ROM with Odin for the I9020 - Samoled Version and here is the latest ROM with Odin for the I9023 Version with SLCD.
Search for a thread called "corrupt storage". Your nand flash may be corrupt. If so, even odin does not work. Luckily Samsung will replace your PBA (printed board assembly) for you that will include new nand memory, free of charge.
From reading your posts it seems like irishrally is right, you have a very common problem that some nexus s's have which a corrupt nand memory and it happens at the most random of times.
I have the same problem, the only why to fix it is take it back to samsung but i would recommend using odin first to return everything back to stock(i.e. lock bootoader, stock recovery).
They will replace your nand memory free of charge.
heres a few links that might help:

Thanks I will try that... I flashed with odin to stock rom... it succeeded but the phone didnt boot up and now if i retry to flash with odin it doesnt work... gives a failure. I am guessing that the first time sucess might have replaced the NS COllab rom to stock but I can't see it ... then i removed the CWM through fastboot and then locked the bootloader through Fastboot oem lock... Have i done everything right??? now can i give the phone to samsung???
BTW i bought the phone from london but i just moved to amsterdam on sunday... i will try here otherwise my friend is going to london next month then will have to wait for that
Yea that should be fine, I'm sure you can send it to Samsung Netherlands. I'm pretty sure the warranty is valid all over Europe. As long as your phone is the i9023(sLCD) model like they have in Netherlands, they'll fixed it.

hey sorry man,
Yea your only plan is London (i9020 was only released in England and USA). Look on the bright side, at least you can send it there and get it back soonish. I had to send mine to the states through a friend and I'll be getting it in 9 months when he returns again :/.
By the way most people say its takes 10-14 days before it gets fixed by samsung and sent back.

I have cleared the CWM from fastboot by:
fastboot erase recovery
then i unrooted it via:
fastboot oem lock
is that it ... or there is some sort of a log file somewhere that i need to delete??? or what i have done is enough???
i was installed a i9000 rom on my samsung galaxy s2 i9100 (because i didn't read the title)..
i know it's a stupid mistake but- can be a solution to the hard brick that i got??
or i have to go to store to fix it??
please help me because my phone doesn't work at all (not download mode or recovery also..)
If download mode no longers works you will need a JTAG device to restore functionality, which are expensive.
So you will mostlikely have to go to a store.
If the repair guy wants to, he can find out that you flashed a wrong ROM.
Which means he will know your warranty is void and will most likely charge you for the repair.
i understand... oh crap - there is someway i can make them to don't know that i flashed a wrong rom? and i also want to ask you how to flash my store (16gb but its in my phone its not an a memory card).?
I did the same thing when i got my t989. I put a i9000 rom on it and it never turned back on...sorry man i had to get it warrantied out and got a new one. Thank god i did it in 3 hrs of getting the phone so they swapped it out no problem.
I think there's nothing you can do without going to your local repair shop. Good luck and be more careful in the future by reading instructions more than twice
i hard bricked my w8 once..then i act stuopid in front of the retailer and he repaired it for free cause of warranty he changed the mother board..worth a try

right, ill try to act like stupid and i really hope they won't check my phone.
could they see any rom or there is actually no rom inside so they will never find it???
OK guys what your talking about is fraud and is not condoned on XDA. If you brick your device by Modding it that is on you and you should not try to get a warrenty replacement for it.
This is the reason you are advised to understand what you are doing BEFORE. You do it.

I buy S3 phones from craigslist seller(s) with broken screens in order to repair/resell (and to play around too), and once some sneaky ass sold me a phone where he swapped t-mobile motherboard to a blacklisted AT&T one. So IMEI on the phone said one thing, but actual IMEI on motherboard was a different one. Since the screen was broken, I couldn't run it and detect that he's taking me for a ride
Here's what I'm looking to do: I have a USB jid device (looks similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Downloa...063?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a224c448f), and I can force device into download mode, whether screen is functional or not. I can use heimdal to dump PIT, which is not very useful as far as figuring out IMEI. Now I am looking into a method to dump efs partition, so that I could write a script, which gets IMEI for me. I can't find any way to dump anything but PIT using heimdal. I know ODIN has some functionality to do that, but I got no idea how to activate it.
Anyone can suggest a solution?..

I would flash a recovery with adb enabled, assuming adb is unusable in the main system, and use dd.

it's probably easier to come with an screen then and just run device... Besides, phone is most likely bootlocked, and I will just brick it
Out of curiosity, is there way to brick this device to stage that for example warranty service can`t find out that it is self-inflicted?
Surely, flashing a bootloader not intended for the device is the best way to brick it?
i will do in that way :
flash engeniereng bootloader
flash a rom not suitable for your device ( ex. rom for 9200hk )
if still works, flash wrong pit file or modified wrong one )
Why would someone do that anyway???

I can tell you why someone would do that. This is purely hypotethical but here is one reason. Let´s say that you have rooted your device and lost your warranty. After that your camera starts to make buzzing noise and focusing don´t work. ie. this case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/galaxy-s6-camera-randomly-makes-loud-t3123724
Now you want to get that camera fixed for warranty, but they don´t accept it because Knox is tripped. But now if whole phone is bricked and be sent to warranty service, they have no other choice but flash stock firmware and untrip Knox and device will gain full warranty again. Or that is my theory anyway. I mean sometimes these devices just stop working maybe due faulty motherboard or something similar. Please remember this is totally hypotethical...

Dark ideas! I like it!
I bricked my G920F trying to get back to stock-rom. Nothing would work, Odin failed time after time (cm.bin). I could flash TWRP and used ADB to get back to stock-recovery, connected to smart-switch and performed emergency restore. Failed again.
I took it to a Samsung servicepoint (talking about Holland) and they immediatly found the custom flag. Phone wil be send over to Samsung now and, according to the lady at the servicepoint, Samsung does not even check. They just reflash it and send it back under full waranty. All I can do now is hoping she is right....
Still figuring out why everybody but me can restore a bricked phone through ODIN.
Hi to all of you.I got given an old samsung galaxy s4 mini(GT-I9192)and the person who gave it said it was broken if you can fix it you can keep/sell it.I tried opening it but it didnt respond to any keys even when i tried download/recovery/power on.As i researched online it seems to me that the device has been hardbricked. The guy who gave it to me said he had sent it to a store to repair and said that his cpu was not functioning anymore for both of his s4 minis which doesnt seem to happen just for the 2 phones that 1 person buys and because i live in Albania services arents so great. When i tried to install a custom rom from odin(latest to this date)it wouldnt recognise it but when i plugged the phone in windows made tge sound that something was plugged in and then shortly after it made the disconnecting sound whoch gives me a reason to think that the device may still be alive.I came here since this is the most know site for tech stuff.I havent seen any kind of bricking before but i read tgat the soft bricked devices just need a clean install and to wipe cache and dalvik which gives it the look when it was bought.Ive seen that you can pay for jtag or try a usb jig but i dont want to spend any money since i have a better phone (galaxy j5 2017) and i just wanted to see if i could use it to experiment with roms root and stuff on there.
Any help will be appriciated and if i have any mistakes in my languagee im sorry because as i said im from Albania and not USA/UK

Download and install the full set of USB drivers for Samsung phones. This might be part of your connection/disconnection issue.
https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
On your Windows system, go to Control Panel>Device Manager, then connect your device, when you connect it, watch the Device Manager window, if your device connects, it should have something appear on your list of devices. Try to see what the list shows when the device connects, even if it still just a momentary connection, then come back here and post what it says. This will give me a better idea of what is going on with the device.
If what your friend told you about the CPU's being bad is true, you won't be able to fix the device(s) unless you replace the motherboard(s).
Some Samsung devices with locked bootloaders also have a hardware component called a Q-fuse, if someone attempts to flash a custom recovery or anything else custom on the device, it trips Q-fuse which then "burns" the fuse, rendering the device inoperably hardbricked. This is probably what was attempted on the devices you have. If this is what happened, you won't be able to fix it, not even Samsung themselves can fix this, all they can do is salvage the device to reclaim any possible usable hardware components.

Thanks for the reply.First things to start,my friend doesnt mess up with loading custom roms as he doesnt have much knowledge on technology.Next, when i connected the device the first time it showed me the name QSHUSB_DLOAD(or smth like that because i am not avaible to use the computer right now).I tried installing some drivers and i will edit the name that i got when i use the computer in a matter of a hour or two.

Everything you're describing is exactly the results one gets when someone tries to flash something custom via Odin, or when trying to update the device via Odin but the wrong firmware is flashed.
Generally, the only to fix this is to send the device to a professional shop to have a JTAG service performed on the device(s) or replace the motherboard.
From what you describe, I believe the devices are permanently hardbricked, the only solution then is to replace the motherboard. Other than that, you're wasting your time.

Well feom what i know he doesnt know anything about odin or flashing a new rom since he doesnt even know what a rom is.Then again he hasnt done a factory reset since he doesnt know how.And he has even said that hasnt done anything else than getting it out of the box putting a sim card and just using it.If there is anything we can try to bring it to life by trying to flash a new custom rom or the original rom from an sd card or a usb flash drive(since i have the converter from charging port to usb).Anyways i was just trying to see if i could bring it to life and idk maybe give it to someone else or sell it.
Thanks for your help for the tips you have given me amd for the help that you may give in advance

If you can find a "debrick.img" or "unbrick.img",(sometimes, these files are debrick.bin or unbrick.bin), there is a method that involves burning the .img or .bin file on an sdcard to create a type of "bootable disk" to restore the device. The only way to get a copy of this file is from a rooted device with the same model number as yours, try to find one that someone has already creates and made available or try finding someone in this forum that has a device like yours with the same model number and then have them pull a copy of debrick.img from their device and upload it for you to download and use for your device.
Here is a thread for doing this on a galaxy S3, if you can find the specific debrick file for your exact model number, you can try this method. Use the method and the tools as described in the thread, you just need to make sure that any device specific files used in the method are those files for your specific model number.

Use an sdcard, the thread that I linked has instructions for returning the sdcard to normal usage after you're done getting the device restored. No, you can not use a debrick.img or any other file from a device with a different model number, it has to be for YOUR SPECIFIC MODEL NUMBER I have told you that in every one of my replies here, that is a MUST, it is not "optional".
Stop looking for shortcuts, I know it isn't easy to find what you need but there are no substitutes, do it the right way or don't do it at all.
