Three ways to backup your contacts - Android General

Ⅰ. Back up your contacts with your own Android phone
1. you need to open your Contacts from your Android phone, press the Menu button and then select More option from the list of Menu items.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. As soon as you click on more option, you will get some options. Now, you need to Select the Import/Export option to proceed.
3. Now, after clicking on Import/Export, you can Select your choice of Export to either SIM card or to SD card
Ⅱ. Sync contacts with Google Gmail
1. First, log into your G Mail account from PC or laptop, once you get logged in, select the contact icon which is located on the left hand of the screen. You will be directed to contact management area, now click on "+" signed icon. After clicking on "+", you will be asked to create a new contact. Now, input all of your contacts and once done with all the entries you can click on the save link. Now, repeat this process until all of the contacts get saved.
2. Log into your G Mail account from your Android device where contacts are stored. Go to the main menu on the device and select the contacts icon. Drop down the check box to bring the list of options. Select the account from the available list which is select the G Mail account. Once you select the account, turn on the sync contacts option.
3. Now you have successfully synced the account with your Android device and all contacts will be transferred from the device. It allows you to conveniently have a backup of all your Gmail contacts. This helps a lot when phone gets stolen or crashes down or even if it suffers from memory loss. As all the contacts are synced with your G Mail account, you can retrieve on any of the smart phones as a replacement device not necessarily to be Android.
Easily use the backup feature of Moborobo
1. Open Moborobo, click Data, select the contacts you want to backup. Click the button Backup/Restore.
2. Specify a path for the backup file, then click Backup.

Thank you for clear instructions. I use ICS and there is no option to store contacts other using Google account. When I create a new contact there is only google account option .Is there any option to override this setting if I would like to save new contacts to sim card or other contacts account. Google starts to be funny
Thanks

google sinc and messy contact problem

ok. SO I am officially sick and tired of having to re do contacts and apps after every flash. I have google sinc checked, but no apps ever seem to auto re download, except maybe maps and another... as well as every time i have to re do my contact list, add from sim to phone, then add in facebook contacts. what am i doing wrong? why do i always have to re link up contacts and why is it always so messy, with like duplicates and contacts with 2 of the same number? is there some damn guide to that? am I missing something or is it always suppose to be a pain in the ass?
any help is greatly appreciated. I can sit here and flash a new rom in ten minuets and spend a hour or more re doing my damn contact list, apparently it doesnt like me...
I tryed save to Sd card, but then I had the problem of it loading in MORE duplicate files, and if I do that Im assuming I cant have facebook contacts with out same problem ? ? what do you guys do and what am i doing wrong? Thanks
Have you tried to use google to sync your contacts to it? This can be done in settings-accounts-and checking the sync contacts.
Also, have you tried titanium backup to backup contact data?
I have never tried either of these since I just user my sim card for contacts, but maybe one of these will save you an got after each flash.

wow umm i just went through this.. it does get messy but it can be fixed and have your phone, google and facebook ALL sync to the same correct contact..
Back up to SD first (you did)
Phone Contacts> Menu button> More >Display
UNCHECK PHONE
CHECK GOOGLE
Phone Contacts> Menu button> Settings> Save new contacts to GOOGLE
go to gmail.com on computer > import contacts > use backup on SD card
phone Settings> Accounts and Sync > Google> Sync contacts
now all new contacts automatically go to google and sync to phone.
for facebook use built in facebook syncing, not the App based syncing.
Phone contacts> menu button > get freinds > Facebook >check ones you want to sync.
Go through contact list, LONG Press contact> Join Contact

2 issues though, syncing with google contacts I believe doesnt let me set custom ringtones.
and the other is that when i sync with google i seem to get all the damn emails ive ever communicated with over like 10 years so its like a billion random emails ( craigslist, ebay, work, school, ect.)
????

I believe you can use custom ringtones with google contacts..I just tried mine and I have the option to use them.
All my contacts are synced with google...so when I flash a ROM, I just add my google account and all the contacts are there. Plus I like the fact I can control my contacts in gmail. Go to your contacts in gmail and choose what you want there...
As for apps, use titanium backup to back them up.
I use contacts groupu from the market. Works great for groups then all u have to do is set the ringtone after a flash. Works great for me! Let me know if u need any help.

Work good for me without resetting the whole thing
Thnx
Just to be clear, by "delete all accounts," does that just mean my gmail account, ONLY?
Also, how would I go about deleting my FB account?

I wanted to know that too. Is it working only for Gmail account or ALL accounts that we have on the phone?
You could go to Settings > Accounts and Sync > [ Your Account here ] > Remove Account... A lot easier and safer...

I WILL NOT BE CHECKING THIS THREAD POST. IF YOU HAVE ISSUES OR FIND BUGS PLEASE EMAIL ME VIA GOOGLE PLAY'S DEVELOPER EMAIL LINK - THANKS

Changelog:
See Google play store
===========================================
Purpose: The purpose of this application was to fix the infamous bug for ICS devices. The bug that I'm referring to is the one where contacts images downloaded to the device from your G-mail account blurry. This is app stores a copy on cropped images on SD card and then stores a reference. This way when you flash a new ROM or have to reset your phone then you can easily restore these high resolution photos back to contacts quick and painlessly.
THIS IS ONLY A WORKAROUND. THIS DOES NOT COMPLETELY FIX THE KNOWN GOOGLE ISSUE WITH LOW RES CONTACT IMAGES ON RESYNC

Does this provide multiple account sync (Facebook, Skype, etc)?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
This does not interface with facebook or skype. Its purely contacts on just the phone level. You have to have the persons photo the first time you set everything up.
not working
I set an contact picture, i'ts all ok, backup database in hd contacts, remove google account, add google account, sync... low res contact picture.
Enter HD contacts app, restore database, apply picture, nothing changes. Select with long press contacts name in hd contacts app, selecting modify, turns "Curently no contact photo for this contact".
I did something wrong on these steps? pls help
I'm on android ICS 4.0.4.
p.s. sorry for bad english
A lot of manual work for me. I'll think I'll stick with High Resolution Google Contact Photos since it can pull photos from Facebook.

It does not fix the problem for Google contacts being blurry on sync. It is more of a workaround. But i have noticed a bug in my app and will be temporarily pulling the app from the market.

Contact Sync on Android

Is there anyway, -not- to have my contact list pull from my Google account the second I add a Google account into my phone?
I have disabled automatically sync data, yet Google still deem it necessary to push my contact from their servers into my second phone where I do -not- want any entire contact.
I remember that on my Galaxy S7, I ended up getting around the issue by simply deleting the contacts I did not want on my phone (probably by disabling sync first).
But on my Pixel, which replaces the S7, I am getting a warning that doing so will remove the contacts on all my other devices despite the fact that I have also disabled auto-sync.
Worse come to worse, I suppose that I could just use a different account on my second phone and avoid adding the account on my primary phone, but I would prefer not to that if only because I would like to be able to access my paid apps (yes, I could also login and out of my primary account as necessary, but I'd prefer a set and forget solution if there is one).
Thanks.
I just make backup copies, then import the latest one.
Hi, you can also use android contacts manager tool to help you make backup of contacts on your android phone to the computer, and you can also manage (edit, delete, etc) them before you take backup. The tool my suggest is Coolmuster Android Assistant. With its help, contacts manager is really easy.

With Samsung phones there is already a robust contact manager, no Gookill needed.
Contacts app>manage contacts

Question Samsung contacts: insert address

When inserting address in GOOGLE contacts app, you just type in a single line (part of) the address and the apps queries Google Maps to let you choose the address. Any way to enable something similar for SAMSUNG contacts app?
Any idea here, pls?
Samsung contact app is not that sofesticated. but if you add a post code or any part of the address manually then a map button allows you to use activate the default map app.
Maybe use Google contact to fill contact address and then swap to Samsung as default
Or just use Google Contacts which is the better app. I tried using all Samsung apps and found it to be too much of a compromise.
I use Samsung Notes and My Files, the rest are google apps. It sucks but it's the price you pay for owning a Samsung device.

Unfortunately using Google Phone or Contacts on Samsung is annoying if you have dual sim: Samsung allows three choices-
- sim 1
- sim 2
- always ask
I chose always ask because I need control yet when calling a contact for the first time, you are asked which sim to use but there's no way to set a default sim upon this first call: on my former pixel I had an option to check "always use this sim", which is missing on Samsung.
In Samsung contacts there's a handy feature to assign in batch a default sim for chosen numbers, in Google contacts you have to do this contact by contact.
Update: never mind, all of a sudden the option to set default calling sim is now present when I call this contact for the first time...
And also Google Messages behaves strange: when selecting a contact for the first time as destination , I am prompted with two numbers from this contacts, same numbers but one with space and one without
