Can't enable file sharing (GS3) - General Questions and Answers

For some reason I can't enable file sharing via DLNA on my AT&T Galaxy S3. I'm using a custom rom called TuchMi S3X 3.0 and the KT747 kernel.
The toggle in the settings is grayed out, but on my friend's GS3 it's not and can be turned on.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem can be?

I'm having the same problem since the software update, worked fine last week.
I'm on official O2 uk

Hi, I have the same problem on my galaxy s3 since the update this week. The on/off button is greed out. Any ideas how to enable it?

I can't find who told me this on another thread,
Go to applications manager, click the "all" tab at the top, scroll down to nearby devices, clear cache.
As I said, I can't take credit for this, many thanks to who replied to the other thread.

Will just add, that a GS3 owner had the same problem and though "Clear Cache" was disabled, he clicked "Clear Data" and the streaming options returned.

This worked for me on my UK unlocked GS3 running build number LG8.
Thank you!

Near By Devices is not showing up in "ALL" in Application Manager.
Any other ideas how to clear the cache or data?

I had posted the same problem in another post in the general section, just tried the clear data option and that worked for me.

dlna problems
Hi,
I'm currently experiencing the same problem. Can't enable file sharing because its greyed out, nor can I clear the cache for "nearby devices"
Because it doesn't appear under applications manager. Any solutions? I'm currently running JB via free gs3

I had the same problem(running hyperdrive rls12 as well) fixed it by reflashing doing the custom install and checking the very first option which is allshare. i didnt install it the first time and its needed to share files via dlna or other sharing options.

So i downloaded Ashell and SQlite manager. I am able to navigate to data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases and located the file called gservices.db. I click on it and open it, then it goes to a screen to select which app i want to use to open it. I was assuming I should use SQlitemanager, however it is not listed as one of the apps to choose to edit. I see a bunch of other apps the only one that i can even get close enough to edit with is text editor. I did find the ""gtalk_vc_wifi_on" value to "false"" line however it is not exactly like you wrote shows up as ""gtalk_vc_wifi_only6& Q plusone:enable_instant_share_video58"
Not sure if i can use text editor to edit this i don't want to screw this up. Any input or guidance is greatly appreciated, thanks.

when you select "gservices.db" in ashell you should get a warning asking if you want to get a copy of the file, answer yes
asqlitemanager should now be available as one of the options to open the db
once it opens the gservices.db select "main"
in table "main" select "Data"
hit "PgDn" until you find the following line "gtalk_vc_wifi_only" and hit edit on the left hand-side
change value "true" to "false" and hit "oK"
hit back button a couple of times and you should get a prompt asking you if yo want to "commit changes" answer yes
before you try to initiate a gtalk over data make sure you kill/restart the gtalk app (you may wanna clear cache and data, doesn't hurt}
Done !

Strange that is exactly what I been trying to do, however when I click on the services.db and choose yes to make a copy I then do not get SQLiteManage as one of the apps to choose from.
Could it be because I need the paid sqeditor?

Aww that was the problem I Dowloaded sqlmanagerlite instead of Asqlmanagerlite.
FYI I followed all the steps you provided, however the value was already set to false.I'm using CM10 maybe the dev made that change by default..problem is I can't make talk video calls without getting the pop up message that I need to turn on WiFi. Any thoughts?? Also its weird how I have been able to make video calls by default in the pass sometimes I wouldn't get the pop up message asking me to enable WiFi and sometimes I would.

did you commit changes ?? Also make sure you go to your task manager and kill the app and then restart it.
I did save the settings however those settings you see on the sqlmanager was already like that. I also killed the app in task manager and cleared cache. Not sure if its because I'm running CM10 or what the reason is.
Thanks for trying to help me, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Sucks BC my friends who have the Samsung Galaxy S3 don't have this issue with stock.

[Q] Help connecting my Galaxy S Blaze w/ Provision V3 to my computer.

Usually when I connect my phone to my computer, it gives me an option to activate USB storage and I can transfer data between PC and phone. I just installed the latest version of Provision and I can't find any option anywhere on how to link my phone to my PC. Can someone tell me how I link them?
Also, can I reinstall widgets such as TaskKiller? I tried via Google Play and I can't find it on my phone.

For the USB storage. You go into settings/storage then press menu key. Click USB Connection and then it gives you a few options. Click USB mass storage.. Now when you connect your phone to the computer, it will ask if you want to transfer files..

I tried that, it would show the options then they would all close. I ended up starting from scratch and reinstalling Provision and now I'm waiting for it to boot again. It took several hours last time, is that normal and should I expect that again? If not, what am I doing wrong?
EDIT: Nevermind, I got it working. I just had to clear the dalvik and wipe data. I got all of my apps, widgets, and songs back. Noob mistake, probably should've looked into what I was doing a little bit more before I just started installing things, definitely more complex than jail breaking an iPhone/iPod. Let this be a lesson to any other noob who stumbles upon this thread. Don't be cautious with deleting your data, it will be backed up and you'll get it all back. I love Provision, great work!
Since I can't yet post on the original thread, I'll post my feedback here:
•The battery is dying quicker than it normally would with this. I listen to music throughout the day and before I got Provision, it would be at about 80% at this time of the day, but now it's at 60%. I believe the cause might be Ac!d, Dolby, and DPS manager. Also, I downloaded a task manager app (it would be great if you could include the stock task manager for s Blazes, that one is by far the best) and the Play Store refuses to close.
•The pull down menu is a little buggy, sometimes it only comes down a little bit, then shoots back up. The problem is usually fixed over time, but can be annoying.
•I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I can't install Swype onto my phone. I have a Zip file for it and I followed instructions exactly and it won't install. I tried going to Settings>Language & Input>Default>Set up input methods to find it, but then Settings crashes. If I could make a suggestion for a future update, I think the Swype keyboard would be a nice addition. I tried TouchPal, but it was just an awful experience.

*I deleted DSP manager from the ROM. It can't be AC!D and Dolby because it only turns on when your listening to music. Like I said on the Provision Thread, use different kernels like LZ or Blue lighting. Play store is fine in my end..
*I have no idea why the notification drawer does that. A quick fix is to just hit notifications again then close it..
*Look for a Swype apk. There are apks lying around XDA like the Beta one. To install it, just click on it like any other apk.. If it doesnt install, push it to system/app and set permissions.
I tried installing the update for 3.1 but when I boot my phone I get a constant message saying that Trebuchet has stopped. What did I do wrong?

1. App killers are useless...this is a Linux system not a bloated wincrap.
2. Beta Swype installs fine.
3. Pull down menu is extremely buggy. I have to relock and unlock my phone up to 5 times to get it to pull down.
4. the kernel that came with this is CM10 (i think), so yeah it will drain fast. Install LZ 2.3.6

Guide To Get HD Voice Activated!

I know people have problems with newer modems and dialing *#0011#*...
But with the new modems you need a app from app store called ShowServiceMode For Galaxy LTE
1. Install app
2. Open app
3. UNcheck ''use recommended setting choosed''
4. Choose option called Main Menu: 197328640 (NOT THE MAIN MENU '#*#197328640!)
5. Press ''run with above setting''
6. Press 7 WB-AMR-SETTINGS
Here you have to enable 1 WB-AMR Enable and 3 WB-AMR Setting ON
7. Press back and press ''Run with above settings choosed''
8. Press 6 WB-AMR Status and see if it says WB-AMR Setting ON, GSM WB OFF and UMTS WB ON
Thats it, you now have HD voice..
I have got this working with all the touchwiss based roms, I have not tried other roms but I think it will do fine...
And one other thing!
To get this to work you can not have frozen/deleted these apps with titanium or other app
Assistant Menu
com.sec.bcservice
com.sec.phone
Factory mode
Factory Key String
MDMApp (I think)
Perso (I think)
Preconfig (I think)
RilNotifier
Service Mode
Service Mode Ril
Ultra cfg ( I think)
I someone knows that this will work without some of these services please tell me, I have experimented myself and I think you need these services to get it to work...

Couldn't find SSM in appstore using phone but could by PC...
Please note this is a paid app...
A little while later in a galaxy far, far away....
Yeah cool, got it all going, somehow shut down my 4G then got it working again with some experimentation, DON'T ask how.... Not sure how I lost it in the 1st place....:silly::laugh:

if someone who is running another ROM than the Touchwiz based could give me a heads up if it working. Like Google edition roms etc, I would be happy
I run a Google Edition ROM and can confirm that this app cannot access the required setting due to not having a few of the files mentioned in the OP.
Call quality sounds incredible to me so it could actually be enabled. Would be nice to find out if there was a way to check.

I see, I do not know any other way, but maybe it's turned ON by default. That said, everytime I call someone whos phone supports HD Voice, I can really hear that it's HD Voice. I did not need to check if it's enable, I can hear it-- But you always know the placebo effect if you are 110% sure

I know! But it was the same price as a cheesburger at Mcdonalds, here. Looking at my stomac I knew I could live with one less burger, AND I really enjoy talking with HD Voice, it's just like the person is sitting next to you
Why anybody would pay for this app if you can flash modem (up to ME2) and activate it for FREE.
Afterwards, you can flash any latest modem and HD Voice will stay ON.
5 minutes and job done, no need to pay for it
Great. Will test it

The service to be launched is at the end of the list:

Default sharing

On 4.4 official OTA on most apps when trying to share files/URLs basically anything it defaults to Gmail when normally you'd be given a choice of methods to share (text, drop box, Bluetooth ect.) I've tried clearing any all defaults I can find to no avail. I feel I've tried everything but FDR. Any ideas would be aoorecisted.

I've found that if I install another app that requests to be the default, it will prompt me and ask which program I want to be default.. At that point I can choose " just once" or "always". Example: I use chrome as my default browser. If I install Firefox it will open the prompt and ask which browser I want to use any time I open chrome or Firefox. Hope this helps

This is a known problem with 4.4 that was fixed with 4.4.1 (or 4.4.2) on the Nexus. That doesn't help you, I know.
This hasn't happened to me, but I recently read that if you go into settings->apps, tap the three button menu and choose "reset app preferences", that fixes the sharing menu problem.

How to access IOTHiddenMenu?

So I am on CleanROMm 8.2. Yeah a little bit outdated. I have tried all the dialer methods and the creating a shortcut method with a different launcher. The hidden menu option does not appear in any of the activities in both Nova and Launcher Pro. I want to check if my phone is refurbished. (I know random for a phone this old), but I love it. So I want to check.
Anyone have any suggestions?
IOTHiddenMenu exists when I look it up in my apps. Just need to access it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
if your handphone was root, you can try edit file build.prop in /system
or download app build prop editor in Playstore, and add this
Code:
Property name: sys.hiddenmenu.enable
Property value : 1
Tried editing in build prop. No luck. I also added this property and value. Just can't access the menu anywhere. Not even in shortcuts!
Thanks for the help though!

So I did what you told me and rebooted the phone. I use AnyCut to create the shortcut for IOTHiddenMenu. When I try clicking the shortcut...I get the "Application not installed" message.
I have added the code in build prop editor with the value of one as well.
Thanks

I was just making a suggestion. I've never used this option myself.

You have to go into
/efs/carrier/hiddenmenu
(No extension, but its a text file)
Change the contents from "OFF" to "ON" and reboot.
Only works on TW ROMs though I think? Could be totally wrong on that, I guess it *is* only an app, and probably doesn't rely on TW framework.
And even then, only certain menu items still work. Back when the phone came out lots more work. Just google around for some codes you need and try them out.

Yeah I noticed it was still there just a minute ago, haven't checked if the app is still in /system/app though. Will report back!
EDIT:
Not there, I guess it makes sense though, its in the /system folder which I wipe when I install CM.

So when I use ES File explorer to get to the efs folder...it is empty. -__- I know the application is installed because I installed it. The shortcuts still do not work though.
By the way thank you guys for the responses.

You must not have enabled "root" from the tools menu of ES browser. I think that's an EXTREMELY important folder for imei/efs/carrier stuff and it persists through ROMs, so every gs3 has stuff in it.

What exactly is it you're trying to do? Probably only available from the stock Samsung dialer as a guess, which means only TW ROMs.
Edit:
Just read you're on CleanRom which is TW based.
I don't really know what shortcut you're talking about, but pretty sure the app can't be run/opened like normal apps.
The way you open it is via dialer codes,
i.e. going into the stock Samsung dialer and typing codes such as *#0*# (dont click call/send, it will open automatically) to get to the extremely basic hardware diagnostic test.
Now, the average user isn't supposed to get into this menu, so most of the codes no longer work, since people figured out the ones to benefit themselves, such as the WiFi offloading which gets rid of the annoying "please connect to WiFi network" or whatever that was constantly in the notification bar.
The above code is one of the few that still work, you'll just have to google around to find some that still work on the 4.3 (?) TouchWiz rom.
Other than that, you may just be SOL, since they removed so many.
Good luck!
