Slower than my GTAB 10.1 - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

For basic tasks like web surfing, I find the A700 actually slower than my GTab 10.1. I have even tried different browsers and the results don't change much. When I go into the TSN.CA video library (broadband link at top), I can click links and 29/30 times it does nothing with the stock browser and dolphin. It works fine with my GTab (3.2 stock). Scrolling with the A700 using quick finger strokes and there's a 1 second delay before it scrolls and I'm not sure if this is by design or not. It's sure annoying though. Other than the nice display and the quicker video decoding, I'm not sure this is going to replace my current gtab just yet.

Rob:
Haven't picked up an A700 yet, but on my A500 you can adjust the sensitivity settings for the screen. In addition, a few others have mentioned by disabling ring, and a few other non-essential apps, their lag issues were greatly diminished. Maybe a few others that have the A700 can comment on whether they have adjusted their settings.

I disabled the ring, but haven't tried much else yet. It seems kind of strange that the O/S is not optimized better than it currently seems. The video playback I have tried is smooth, but I'm also noticing inconsistent sound volume with this tab (all apps). Sometimes the volume is soft even at max, other times it's good. The very first time I tried the tablet the max volume was really low, like about %30 what it should be.

compared to my tf300 the a700 behaves like a brick on a stick. the OS seems cobbled together, is slow and unresponsive. Yes its helps deaktivating the ring and uninstalling crapware (Titanium Backup uninstall since they are protected apps...)
Bear in mind that the same hardware has to power a much larger pixeldense screen - though i find it interesting that riptide i.e. plays much as it does on my tf300 (ok its a bit more corny but thats thanks to the increased resolution)
but yeah - everyday tasks are much slower - moving smth on your dashboard around i.e. webbrowsing... etc....
this tab needs a recovery mode so bad - since with recovery we can flash custom roms - and a rom without all that crapware on it would go a long way for speeding things up - add some kernelmods and optimisations and this tab could go a long way - but sadly, we're not there yet.
so long

Sounds like you need to stick with your Galaxy Tab OP :good:

touchscreen questions

Can anyone who has installed a custom android type rom let me know if the touchscreen is better once rooted and reflashed. I am talking about sensitivity at the store two different ones now both units are just bad when trying to select something I occasionally had to hit the selection more than 2 times.
I am also interested in if this changes. I read that its hit or miss whether or not thr screen works as intended or has problems, leaving me to believe its a production consistancy issue.
Some love it and some hate it.
Does this sound accurate?

Sounds like it.
There's another thread about this which has a youtube video of one of the ones who said their's was bad and it certainly looked to be the case. In the video on the "home" "page" of the launcher when he swiped in the top half of the screen nothing happened most of the time, while it worked as expected in the bottom half. Mine behaves as expected wherever I swipe...
I'm not going to let on that it will be perfect, but when I moved to TnT Lite (I'm now on 2.2.1), I installed LauncherPro. Within LauncherPro, you can adjust the sensitivity and scroll settings that covers all the launched actions. Also, there's an entry you can add to the local.prop [go into adb shell and type: echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop ] (requires r/w permissions to update). This change made it smoother (and quicker) to go from screen to screen.
There are still times where I press an icon and nothing happens for a second or so, but it rarely happens anymore with all the improvements that have been added to TnT Lite over the last couple of weeks.
I have had no touchscreen sensitivity issues to speak of with ZPad ROM. I am now running the VEGAn ROM which has really come together nicely in the last few days, and again the touchscreen is as sensitive in all places as I would expect it to be.
Any slowness/lag issues were resolved with the updated drivers that were discovered a week or two ago.
The stock TNT ROM has lots of software issues that are totally unrelated to the hardware. This is most likely one of them. I can't say for sure, since I wiped my unit within 5 minutes of opening the box and installed ZPad.
The touchscreen is still not as good with multitouch as it should be, which I believe is a driver issue, so pinch and zoom and similar multitouch action is not as smooth as it ought to be. But in general use, typing, swiping, scrolling, etc. I am just single-touching and everything works as smoothly and well as it does on my Nexus One phone.

Animations stuttering

Hello,
I recently replaced my TF201 (Transformer Prime) with a TF700 from BestBuy.
I am impressed with how many problems they fixed, such as GPS, WiFi, and also impressed with the full HD screen!
The one main issue that bothers me is certain animations seem to stutter and are generally much slower than my TF201 was. I am even comparing it to two TF300 in front of me (one on ICS, one on JB) and the TF300's animations are so much more fluid and responsive.
1) One that is very apparent is screen rotation. If I am on the stock launcher with the default wallpaper with default icons and widgets if I change orientation it takes a long time to actually start changing orientation and the animation is not fluid and stutters. If I do the same thing with a TF300 in front of me the the time it takes to start changing orientation is 3 times faster, and the animation is completely fluid - I cannot see any stuttering or framerate drops.
2) Certain menu transitions have the same stuttering problem (although not as obvious since the transitions are fast). Pressing System Firmware Update is an example.
3) Also occasionally using certain Live Wallpapers (such as ASUS DayScene) will cause the Recent Apps menu to stutter a lot.
I just want to see if it is all TF700's that suffer this issue or if it is just mine.
I am running locked, stock OS, and rooted. Also have latest version from ASUS.
If anyone can test the scenarios I mentioned above and reply to this post it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

[Q] Asus Stock factory 4.1.1 Lags when recording audio - options?

Hey all,
I have a Nexus 7 and an Asus Transformer Infinity (it's my wife's). We bought the VoicePro application from the Play market for recording and mixing audio. Unfortunately, we are finding that my Nexus 7 running 4.2.1 records reliably and quickly. The Infnity on the other hand, is a mess. Pressing the record button gets us a second or two of lag in the activation of recording mode, and we get interrupts and stutters in the recording. We can actually see the lag hitting as the 'waveform' being recorded is going across the screen, and during playback, sure enough, it's chopped up.
We almost got her an iPad instead of an Android tablet because of audio lag concerns. However, before we give up and go that route (especially being an Android-owning family), I want to see what my options are.
Option 1 - Unlock + Root, and set up the Seeder app that everyone is talking about (yes, I know critics say it's placebo, but what little lag I saw doing recordings on my Nexus 7 has now GONE since I installed it and updated read_wakeup_threshold. Whatever magic it is, I can tell you it does prevent kernel-based blocks that lag the device, and I believe might improve the recording).
Option 2 - New Kernel and/or new ROM. Obviously I'm not afraid to do this as I'm an experienced person in this regard, but I need to make sure we don't lose stability or functionality with the ASUS dock. Although my wife likes some of the ASUS add-ons/apps, she's not married to them, and would be fine with letting them go in exchange for a smoother experience.
For Option 1 - has anyone tried out the seeder/entropy fix on the TF700 and can you report that it exhibits the same performance increases (in terms of less lagginess) as other people are reporting?
For Option 2 - recommendation for a 4.1 (or better yet, a 4.2.1) ROM and/or that will work with a docked Transformer Infinity pad, and provide enhanced performance and less stuttering/lagging?
Thanks in advance,
Randy

Phone performance

I disabled the "Turn over to mute" and "Turn over to activate" settings under Settings > Gestures and i would swear my phone is actually performing better than what it was. Can anyone confirm this for me?
It could be a placebo but I notice it. I had already turned off flip to snooze on mine but left flip to mute on. I had lag when changing from Chrome back to the Homescreen prior to turning off the flip to mute setting. After turning it off it did not lag. In an attempt to recreate the issue I cleared the memory and did it again with no apps running in the background as a baseline and had lag with flip to mute on vs off when going from Chrome back to the homescreen. Also tested it when opening and scrolling through the app drawer. I can't wait for 5.1 update, if it comes...
After switching to Apex launcher, and turning off the other two gestures in the Settings, I have had no instances of missed double taps. It was pretty reliable to begin with, but yes, I was noticing some drops. But those are now gone.
I know everyone is complaining of UI lag - which is indeed present. However I decided to do a more real world test. I loaded up WatchESPN, OSMonitor, Play Store,
Gmail, Firefox (with Engadget open), Two camera apps, Hangouts, Play Newsstand, HBO Go, Google Photos, ES File Explorer, N7 Music Player, YouTube and MX Player. After loading all these up one after another, I started Nokia Here Maps - and asked it to locate an address on the other side of town and compute point to point directions to it. It took what seemed like a blink of an eye, and it was back with the route. I then turned WiFi off ( so that it cannot hand over the task to a server in the cloud ) , and asked it to compute another route, and again it was back within a second, with multiple route alternatives. So - to me - this is a more real life use case - I will actually be using the device a lot in this fashion - and for that - it is performing quite well. In general I have noticed that the UI lag does not get worse with the number of apps loaded. So when it come to real heavy lifting, I think the device is doing pretty well .
There is a YouTube video out there today, which is claiming that the Alcatel did better than a Galaxy S6 in running multiple 3D games simultaneously. I will myself never play any games on this device . For my applications - I find the performance satisfactory. Of course, this clearly has all the 5.0 performance issues, which I am hoping will clear up with 5.1 / 5.2 update.
You may want to go under developer options and try things such as disabled the animation scales or lowering them from 1.0 to .5 and possibly enabling gpu decoding of 2d content.....disabling the animation will give the ui response a bit of snappiness.
If you are running nova launcher it has it's own animation settings under "look and feel" and you can choose the "faster than light" option....I disable all the animations...I'm interested in gettings things done..not gimicks and "flash". I'm sure apex has similar settings.

I already have animations down to 0.5 - I am not touching anything else there. Apex has a setting to speed up some animations as well.
What is a good way to test the browser ? I am using Firefox - with adblock plus.

When the phone is rooted I'll use adaway....what exactly do you want to "test"? I use lightning+ browser(lightning browser (without the +) is free) which is always nice and snappy.
I've found, that turning of the OS "vibrate" on tap functions seems to have improved performance for me. At the very least it feels better. I feel like i was getting 2 different vibrations when using keyboard, and it would double tap things by accident as a result. You also need to independently turn off vibration on the keyboard if you want it gone completely.
Has anyone noticed that transition animation scale keeps on reverting back to 1x after it has been set to 0.5x ? Does this qualify as a bug ? Or is there something I am missing ?
BTW - even with the third party launcher, I am getting unresponsive double-tap ( wake only ) occasionally, and unset/set the option always brings it back. This is something that Alcatel should be able to fix - clearly a software issue.

Has anyone found a fix for this? Mine does this as well, resetting the transition scale!
Thanks

Never had that problem, I've been using nova prime and double tap to wake works perfectly.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (SM-T231) - Few Tips to make it faster

Though this is an old model, I purchased this device only a month back. After using for a few days I was having second thoughts. It wasn't very smooth, froze a lot. The reason I picked it was for its brand value, sturdy build and bright screen but doesn't mean I would be happy with its laggy performance especially laggy home button.
While randomly browsing the internet, I came across a video which explained how editing the s-note app setting (uncheck double click home button to launch s-note option) helped the home button to function swiftly. I have also reduced the animation to 0.5. I find the device performing very well now. How small things can make a huge difference
I would also like to have inputs from the rest of you on any such nuances that makes for a better user experience.
