I know that there is an FM chip inside the Xoom and I was thinking if it is possible to utilise it? I know there is an app called spirit FM and I would love to see the Xoom supported. Would a edit with a kernel work or is it not possible at all. I'm sure this feature would be very useful for people who travel etc.
The Xoom has a Broad com BCM4329 Chip. A teardown on ifixits website has this.. more info is available here http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4329
Surely not too difficult, just the software?

That's cool I didn't know that.. but +1 i'd like to see that working too... my gf with be all happy if that worked!

Wow that's interesting, if it really does have a FM chip I wonder why it was kept so quiet? I didn't even realise.

Are there other Motorola handsets that have similar hardware to the triumph? I ask for porting reasons. It was nice modding the vibrant because we had the i9k for resources and information. I'm wondering if there's a similar moto device.

Im bored so ill respond, the triumph is not a actual moto device it's a rebranding of the Huawii X6.....
Interesting. I saw the thread about the doom kernel. Is it safe to say that x6 gingerbread will be portable?

I was porting it, just missing some lib files, I been busy lately now with school.

How can I activate radio fm in. My skyrocket or someone rom that has activated this
Thanks

I'm also looking for any info and the threads about an at&t and rogers radio in development just confuse me. I'm kinda new to android and wish there was some sort of crash course

The skyrocket does not have a FM radio antenna in it so no FM radio for us
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
in other pages, says the skyrocket has FM radio with RDS, but disables it for att users consume streaming and leverage their networks tle
Cooks need only create a rom or kernel to activate the radio, or someone who has one to remove the doubts and told us if you have no fm radio chip as the i9100
"FM" radio has nothing to do with data/LTE. Please post a link where you found this information.
You guys are talking about regular ol fm radio right? Like the one in your car?

FM reciever is listed here as being present on the skyrocket

Ok. Well....do you see a radio apk in your app drawer? Go to the Samsung website and look at the official specs from Samsung. You won't see fm radio included. Or better yet flash the cm7 Rom in our dev section and try to use the fm radio thats included. It won't work. No fm radio on skyrocket

I understand what your saying, just wondering why so many sites have it listed as being part of the phone.
I was wondering the same thing buddy. Kinda confusing. I was pretty sad when I figured out we didn't have a fm radio

Hello everyone
Keeping in mind the excellent dev support for NS , i wanted to ask if someone has managed to enable 720p video recording on it ? if it is possible ...
thanks for any info in advance
Not possible.
i too was curious about this a while ago... got a similar "plain" answer with no explanation... which obviously didn't satisfy the original urge to discover the answer... the more drawn out answer is:
the Nexus S doesn't have the hardware to allow for HD recording... we can thank the NFC chip that was added in place of where the extra bit for HD recording hardware would've gone...
btw, search is your friend... ibtl

Please keep in mind that Nexus S is primarily a developer phone. For a developer it is better to have every bit of hardware the Android SDK supports than having extra functions which are useless for a developer.

good point... because i bought it b/c it was a phone... maybe this is why google hasn't gained as much ground as they could've?? NFC is only NOW useful since Google Wallets latest update allowing for adding other cards like Visa, etc... before that, NFC was totally useless for me and pretty much everyone else!
but you're point does make a lot of sense from that perspective!!
Oh ok ... Thanks for the info

The htc one v has got this function. The htc one v has got a 1GH processor and the benchmarks points are only 2100. The nexus s has got 2900 without overclocking.

And what does any of that have to do with taking 720p video? Absolutely nothing.

I know I'll probably get bashed and trolled for saying this, but it's the truth. Apple Wi-Fi antennas seem to beat Android devices in my opinion. I'm Android til the end, don't get me wrong but my buddies girlfriend has a criPhone and I've used other Apple devices and I have to say the Wi-Fi antennas are better. I know the reasoning for this is most likely the fact most I devices don't have data and mostly no 4G. But I've used most all high end Android phones such as the S3, One X, and I run the E4GT and the antenna doesn't reach near as far. I'm just curious if there are any devices coming out or that are out that match or beat their range. I feel this is the one thing they have us beat on and I'm on Wi-Fi a lot, so I feel it could be a very beneficial upgrade. I've done some searching and yielded very little discussion on this topic. And any feedback would be great

Well you kind of answered your own question in a way, haha. But that's sweet, I had no idea of this mod, although it seems as though I get a little better reception on the Goodness ROM I'm running than on previous. I was kind of more referring to hardware, although mods to help it would be sweet!

If xda-developers made a phone, what would it's features be?
I'll start.
Dual microsd card slots. (1 can be mapped to ram expansion.)
Optional snap-on fold-out QWERTY keyboard.
Single touchscreen on outside that unfolds to reveal dual touchscreens on the inside.
HDMI out.
FM radio.
USB host.
Solar cells (from old calculators) for trickle charging.
Anything more?
Anything less?
If we control the hardware, we can better control the software.

The problem with that would be copyrights. We would have to make sure everything is open source.
I like your idea to make it cyanogenmod or aokp, so we could just update it when a new version comes out...

Physical bottoms.
Physical bottoms.
Touch bottoms are cool... but.. can be touched by accidental, or can be very sensitive.
Physical bottoms is better, from my point of view.
I absolutely agree.

And devs should try making a phone for sure.
Immagine how cash friendly it will be!
And why would cia look into this?
