Camera zoom? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just asking why isn't there camera zoom taking pictures or is there an .apk that can do it?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app

becuase Nexus S's camera doesn't support it, only way you can is zoom in the picture after you shot it ...

camera zoom fx works with nexus s

Digital zoom is no different than taking the picture and zooming in in gallery when cropping it. "Real" zoom requires hardware the Nexus s doesn't have.

Ohhhh come on please can someone advise on a good camera app to use pn tab with zoom capabilities. I also really miss that function. Any suggestions will be appreciated

its only possible using software digital zoom, not optical. it can be made in some third parties like C360 or Vignette, but i dont know exactly)
There is no optical zoom on phones, only digital. Digital zoom is more or less like cropping an image and then resizing it, so the result will not look very good. If you still want it there many app on the market like devilng said. Or you can take the pictures normally and then crop and resize with a pictures editing program like photoshop or something. Like I said it won't look good.

There are tons of Camera apps in the Market. Fuzzy and Blurry sounds like you have a fingerprint on the lens. I have nothing but good things from the CM7 Camera or stock LG Camera. They both have pros and cons but neither one of them produce fuzzy or blurry pictures.
Every single camera app I've ever used has produced the same quality images. Image quality is all about your physical camera itself, not the software utilizing it. Any camera app is just going to be using the same basic Android functions anyway, the differences are purely in the UI and any post-capture activity (filters, HDR, etc)

Camera app

As we all know the stock camera isn't the best. Anyone have good alternatives they use to take quality pictures?

I still get blurrry images when up close using flash, idk im disappointed so far with this phone, i loved my og atrix. the camera to the sd card problems may make me return it.
what kind of camera to sd card?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
sorry if that confused haha i meant from the camera problems to the sd card problems. as in 2 separate issues. Im returning my atrix 2 today too many issues that I dont see being updated anytime soon.
I am disappointed with Camera Zoom FX and am bummed that I let it get past the 15 minute refund window. Though, I suppose for $5 it is still better than the stock.
I REALLY liked the camera features that were on my Captivate - you can tap on a spot on the screen for lighting and focus, not relying on the image being exposed based on the center of the screen.
I like Camera Advance and Camera360 Ultimate.
Camera zoom fx. For sure

You have to press and drag the focus square in the middle for the Atrix2. I have no idea why motorola won't do it like everyone else with tap-area-to-focus
I have Camera Zoom FX, and I have to say that I prefer the stock camera app. I think that the stock camera app's UI is nice, the photos are good, it has a fair amount of different settings, and although it's not tap-to-focus it's drag-to-focus, which at first is annoying but now I prefer it as it lets you move the square more accurately.
I had the A4G before my A2, and I think that the A2's camera is at least as good as the A4G's camera, except for the flash (the A4G had an extremely powerful flash).
I tried the Camera Zoom Fx and the layout is much better than the stock but picture quality is a whole different story.
I took 2 sets of pictures (one with CZ fx and stock). In both sets, the resolution was NOTICEABLY clearer in the stock camera app. Totally unexpected for me because I assumed CZ Fx would be better. For instance a car licence plate was easily readable upon magnification with the stock app but almost unreadable with CZ FX.
Both apps were set to 8mp, auto focus.
Camera zoom FX pic's EXIF: F/2.8 5mm 1/274s ISO-100
Stock camera app pic's EXIF: F/2.8 5mm 1/257s ISO-65535
I will be sticking with the stock. Stock seems to optimize settings better.

I love camera zoom fx. It can be testing at times, but for the most part, a great app. The HDR app(forgot the name - reformatted my phone) is good too.
Not sure if pictures will work.

You guys should also try ICS Camera+ it's basically a port of the Camera from the Galaxy Nexus, it works great. Picture Quality is great as well...
What about vignette? I think it's great for more artistic takes

I've tried Vignette as well as Camera Zoom fx - both are good for effects. Since the 2.3.6 update, stock camera works fine for me. I'm not big on effects. I just need a nice, focused, crisp photo and stock does that for me now.

[Q] Replacement Camera App

Hey guys, coming from the epic I an missing the great camera options it had. Does anyone have a good app they use for pictures? I'm not looking for better output, but options like panoramic and whatnot.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
The stock ICS camera app can take panoramic shots, albeit in not very good quality. For a replacement app, I'd recommend Camera zoom FX (was on sale for 10 cents awhile ago). It really depends on what features you're looking for though.

Camera360 as well here
I use an app called "Pano" for panoramic shots.

lgCamera is also a good, free alternative with lots of options.
Is there one with zoom, or is that not possible on the nexus a 4G?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I'm using Camera Zoom FX and Vignette. Both are very good i think.
Both have a Zoom but of course only a digital zoom.
If you don't have a zoomable lense (nexus phones dont have) then only digital zoom is possible, which has a poor quality and you can do better yourself on your computer.

You realize since it's a fixed lens that any zoom will only be digital? Thus it's simply like cropping a larger picture to see a smaller section...
Edit: Didn't notice blackg3cko already mentioned this. My bad.

Q. Cameras

Is there any good camera I can flash that takes good pics cuz the one that's stock look gritty when I zoom in

No matter what camera app you use you'll get a loss of quality when using digital zoom.

Yes, the zoom feature is just a digital zoom, not optical. Meaning its basically just cropping the image and making the pixels bigger, therefore the "grainy" look.
If you want to zoom in without the grainy look, just move closer to the photo subject! Of course that may be obvious, and not always possible. But camera phones are just snapshot devices (for convenience and "spur of the moment" picture opportunities), not serious photography cameras.
