Help fixing inverted Gmail's black bars on framework-res.apk - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I need some help fixing a modified framework-res.apk (or at least that's where I assume it is). I have it fully decompiled and ready to edit, but I have no idea where to look and I'm sure someone with more experience than I can tell me where to find it quickly. Here's my issues:

As you can see, the top and bottom bars on Gmail are black with grey text / icons due to a bad invert. I'm trying to make them back to the white-grey-whatever color they were stock. I've deleted the Gmail.apk file and reinstalled Gmail, but nothing works because, again, I assume the framework is screwing with it. The strange part is that when I select an email:
It becomes normal and all the text / icons on the top and bottom are visible again with the right colors for the bars.
Any help figuring out what to do would be great, I really appreciate it! It's a nightmare trying to read this in the Florida sun, so please, don't advise to put everything to inverted, I need the stock look back and can't make everything black with white text. Thanks!!!
This is on my SGSIII, listed in my sig, in case that changes anything in the framework - running 4.0.4

I think I have the answer ...

First, I'm assuming you got this GMail.apk from a ROM release over the last 24-48 hours (not the official release, which I believe is available now). I'm saying this because, the ROM build I uploaded to JDBeitz last night should solve this issue.
Let me know.

White manila 2.1 theme

Hello everybody,
I did search but no luck. Maybe it has not been done yet.
What I would like is to have a mania 2.1 theme that looks exactly as the sub-menus look. White.
This would be good for several reasons:
1. You would actually see your screen in direct sunlight. I suppose you know what I mean...
2. It would give the phone an elegant clean look.
3. It would give the good old manila a new look but at the same time it would not be exaggerated or too colorful.
I would be glad to help any developer who is interested, but unfortunately I don't have the coding knowledge...I know design though and would be glad to provide any kind of image manipulation services if it's needed.
If this already exists please help me with a link
Also, what we might need if a white upper and lower taskbar theme to make this complete.
The HTC Fuze (for AT&T) stock ROM includes a white theme. It shouldn't be too hard to modify the art a bit to remove the AT&T-ificiation, and make a nice white theme.

Personally, I have experienced that white text/icons on a black or black-ish background give me sufficient contrast for daylight use. Perhaps you should turn off your light-meter and set the backlight lumens to 100%.
Thank you for your reply. Yes. I was looking for something similar... The only difference would be to have it the default touchflo 3d sub-menu color scheme.
It would also help me if someone would guide me to a thread that is about changing the text color...that would be useful too. If I could change the text, the only thing that remains would be the slide-bar which is easily customizable.
Thanks
As I was looking further I found a thread and it seems like he has only just started the work.
Here's the thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=79323
And the image:
that reminds me of chocolate vanilla poptarts. and now i really want some poptarts!
edit: by the way that doesnt look like manila 2.1 (i typed vanilla at first, hehe, damn delicious poptarts!) like he wanted. but it looks like a white background and a white slider canvas and a black flip clock. how hard could it be to get those up and working?
Yes.
All we would need would be:
1. Black text - which I couldn't find
2. A Custom Slider - which is not as important
3. A black clock which can also be found somewhere - not too important either.
And it seemed easy to me too, but unfortunately no one has made this before. If it is that easy please point me to a thread where I can get the black text from (for manila 2.1) and I'll be happy because the slidebar isn't that bad this way either.
ask in the manila 2.1 port thread. im sure someone will get you some black text.
hey look what i found. retro eh?
Yeah, retro indeed. I asked in the manila 2.1 port thread but they seem to be too busy with answering other questions and didn't take the time to even respond.
I can understand them because they have enough on their mind...poor guys work a lot for free so you can't be mad at them for not answering.
I just hope that one day someone will take the time to change the manila text to black.

Need help with a new Theme I am creating please?

I could really use some help with this theme I am working on for CyanogenMod.
This is my first attempt at theming so be gentle.
First off, this is based off jonnybueno's HexusOne? Theme in fact it is basically the same exact theme except blue instead of black and white. It still took quite a bit of work to change basically every img in it to blue. I will also be changing pretty much everything but I wanted to start somewhere.
Here is some screen shots of the Theme, it is gonna be called NexBlue:

The problem I am having is that I could really use some help with .9.png files if someone could help. Before you say it I have read the other threads about how to do it. In fact I tried following the instructions in a couple threads but I must have done something wrong because it didn't work. It works fine if I remove all the .9.png files out of my theme but of course there is stuff missing that is the wrong color if I do it that way.
Here is some examples of the screwed up .9.png files:
It is a MetaMorph at the moment so if anyone could take a look at it and help me out here is the link.
NexBlue_Ver_1.0
THIS IS NOT A WORKING THEME!!! DO NOT MORPH/FLASH THIS TO YOUR PHONE IT WILL MAKE SEVERAL PROGRAMS FC!!! IF YOU NEED TO MORPH/FLASH THIS ON YOUR PHONE TO HELP, MAKE SURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
As far as FC's go, since you are taking a theme and recreating it blue, there is one thing, you cannot do that to all images. Some .9's that is fine, but there are others that you cannot simply just change the color, they need to be reprocessed using eclipse.
Off hand active_title_bar.9.png is one of them. There are others. So first step is separate the .9's from the regular png's. Pay attention to what you replace so you can retrace your steps and find what you can and cannot simply change the color on.
Yeah, I know what your talking about. What I am really trying to figure out though is how to change a. 9.PNG correctly without messing up something.
I never drew (err drawededed... its late and I'm feeling speech impaired) guidelines for the .9s in hexus one. I've found that if you size your .9s to the minimum size android stretches them, you don't need to run them through eclipse. Finding out what size that is, has somewhat eluded me though.
That would fix your widget problem. For your buttons and other stuff, here's what I would do:
Download the original .9 from cyanogens github. Take your modified .9 and copy it within the guidelines of the source .9(which should have guidelines already =D) then make sure your guides are definitely FF000000 black, then run it through eclipse.
That's the lazy jonnybueno way of making half themes.
Thanks, I will give that a try.

[REQUEST] Fix Voice keyboard!

Okay.

}
You see how the background is only as far as the keys are and you get the white (or whatever color the bg is of the app your on) sidebar and bottom stripe?
You can't see that on the original LatinIME.apk.
See, this is the original.
Its that dark gray background on the LatinIME.apk that I want fixed on the Voice Keyboard.
Come on, is no one gonna help me? I was told it was easy! I have no idea how to fix it, but I was hoping someone would!
I'm playing around with the APK a bit, its called "VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk", formery "VoiceSearch.apk" and "LatinIME.apk". I was hoping to find a transparent "Such_and_such_Image.png" in the new one, and the same image, only not transparent, in the old one. So far, I'm not seeing it. Perhaps its something deeper, something in the XMLs?
I can see you don't like the way it is now, but I think most people do, and I believe its working as intended.
Perhaps someone more experienced can help shed some light?
***Attached are the files in question***
In this post Konipub has a flashable zip for his rom with voice keyboard that doesn't have transparent background(atleast not in HIS pictures)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6182240&postcount=2
So I removed all the key layout files from my phone because some of them had different names and I know the zip wouldn't over ride them; and I flashed it. It looks just like the one from darches google ****s. I don't know if konipubs picture is inaccurate, or perhaps the background file is actually a file from the framework-res? I almost feel like it must be. Will do some heavy digging tonight!
: Disregard:
Its probably in an .xml within the layout folder. That keyboard bugs me when its like that as well...I'd dig through the .xml's, but ive been too tired to even focus on it...Try the Droid X keyboard, its nicer.

Thanks. I actually do have Froyo with CM6 Test Build 0 right now, but I think the VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk was removed.

I take it back, I think the problem is because the. .apk is for high resolution phones. I'm willing to bet there s an hdpi folder instead of mdpi. Yup, I was right this is for high Res phones. Its an easy fix.

If it's an easy fix, do you think you can do this? Please say yes.
And I almost gave up all hope.
Mods can delete this thread. No longer applies to CM Roms. Issue resolved.

Can someone tell me what notification bar icon is...

... the one that shows after an app has been installed from the market succesfully. I believe stock shows it as a down arrow on top of a couple of lines. Some ROMs show the Android Market symbol. Myn's latest twoPOINTtwo has this big, plain oversized checkmark and I'm trying to replace it... but I cannot find out which one this is for the life of me...
Thanks for your help.

I don't remember the exact name of it, but its in the Vending.apk not the framework. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Ahh.... I see. Thanks for that - I should be able to find it now. I've been sifting through the framework and resources APKs forever!

, that is in framework-res.apk
Not the actual downloading arrow (or series of them) but the icon that remains there after the download has been completed and the app is installed.
I just found it, thanks to the above help. It's called "stat_sys_install_complete.png" and was located in "system\app\Vending\res\drawable-hdpi". I would never have looked there.
Related question - in cases like this, is there an easy way to just replace this single icon? Like maybe with root explorer or does it require a full out replacement in the APK package and complete reflash? I really don't feel like reflashing the entire ROM just for a few changes like this and would rather just make a mental note to repackage future ROMs.
Ninjamorph should do it

[REQUEST] Custom Facebook and Market apk

I have recently came to what I believe is my resting place as far as roms and themes (for a little while at least). I am wondering if anyone would be willing to create me a custom facebook and market apk based on my current theme and wallpaper pictured below.
I will say thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to take this on. I wish I knew how to create an apk and I would just go at it myself.
Wanted to add to this maybe a black dialer keypad with red letters and white numbers.

I'm not saying I can't theme Facebook and the Market app for you but is time consuming and to be honest, I'm not into the whole RED thing BUT.....there's help after all! Check out this thread and contact the OP aka the guy that started the thread and see if he has a themed Facebook/Market app that you can borrow from him! If he doesn't have one, I'm sure that will properly be on his list of things to do for future updates to his theme! Oh and YES, the market and facebook app should work on a sense rom even though his theme is for CM7 (AOSP rom)!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042045
Hope this has helped a bit......GOOD LUCK!!
It is actually quite ironic that you would suggest that as I flashed CM7 back on yesterday and am using his themes etc. I have never been huge on red and black but there have been a couple of themes that just pop and I am kinda hooked on black and red for now.

I just happened to come across your post. Here is the market that I am currently using which will go perfect with your setup. Follow this and try the red transparent market. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888330
Also, we are putting the finishing touches on our red themed facebook.apk and should be posted today or tomorrow on the theme thread so keep checking back.
Will do!! Thanks!
