Q) How to install custom roms?
A) Before proceeding, you will need to have any custom recovery installed, since the stock Samsung recovery cannot be used here. Preferably, use CWM5 by tj_style (the one explained above). Also, remember that your phone’s data (not the one stored on sd-card) will be erased/reset, so be sure to make a backup.
1.Now, download the custom rom of your choice from the Development Section of our sub-forum.
2.Optional: Check if the zip file you have downloaded is proper (i.e. not corrupt).
To do this, simply use WinZip (Windows) or other similar program to extract the file on your desktop. If the extraction has completed without any errors, then the file is proper, but if you get any errors while extracting, then the file is corrupt and you will have to re-download it.
3.Now, copy the file onto your sd-card.
4.Reboot into recovery mode.
5.Select “wipe data / reset”.
6.After this completes, select “wipe cache partition”.
7.After this, select “advanced”>”wipe dalvik cache”.
8.Now that you have wiped all data, select “install zip from sd” from the main recovery menu, then “choose zip from sdcard”.
9.Optional, but recommended: Select “mounts and storage”>”format /system”.
(Important, if you are installing any variation of CyanogenMod 7 (cm7) for the first time, or are moving from a stock based custom rom to a cm based custom rom...else you will be stuck on the "android" text screen)
10.Now select the custom rom that you had placed on your card, and wait for it to install.
11.Optional: When the install completes, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache again (steps 5,6,7)
12.Select “reboot system now”, and be prepared to wait till the phone restarts. (Note: first boot may take upto 10 minutes, so do not panic)
13.Enjoy your new rom!!!

didn't help... stuck again... ( what's left??

which CWM version are you using?
flash the latest one then goto>mount and storage
>format data-yes
then >format system -yes
and >format cache -yes
then follow normal procedure to install a rom.. after completion remove battery and boot up.
also check the zip file size properly whether it matches exactly or not..

i'm using v5.0.2.7.
i'll try it now.

i quit... it stuck again... (

List out the steps (properly) that you do...
Not all the roms should get stuck...

all roms get stuck, but razodroid 4... (

tell what u did exactly ..

Um Have you tried a STOCK ROM? That Might Fix it And then just Go into another Custom ROM

it's better to flash stock firmware once again

CM9 boot animation loop

I have clockworkmod recovery installed and rooted. It's been a few months since I rooted, and can't remember exactly what I did, but OTA updates stopped working. Hence, I am still on gingerbread.
Trying to flash a custom rom now, CM9. I tried the rom manager method several times, found out that wasn't recommended, and then tried the recovery method.
The same thing happens either way: it boots into CM9, but the boot animation keeps playing.
With the rom manager method, I tried wiping nothing, then tried wiping dalvik only, then tried... whatever the other option was, wipe cache and data?
With CMW recovery I downloaded CM9 zip and the appropriate GAPPS, moved onto the internal SD card, booted into recovery mode Wipe data/factory reset, then Wipe cache partition, then install both.
I'm able to restore from backup each time, but this is annoying.
Thank you
1. Install ICS Radio (UCLF6)
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Format /System
4. Install CM9.zip
5. Install Gapps.zip
6. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
7. Reboot
:good:

So "UCLF6" appears to be rom that is similar to stock, I'm guessing the idea here is that I'm resetting the phone but retaining root, the idea being that something on my phone is messed up and preventing CM9 from booting but doesn't prevent the current rom from booting?
Two other questions
1. Won't format/system wipe out all my backups in addition to my data?
2. Have you had or seen this problem before? I'm hesitant to commit myself to something, especially with no backups, if it's just a theoretical fix. I do appreciate it either way.
UCLF6 is an ICS modem/radio you need if you're coming from gb.
If you back up though CWM you can restore again later if you want.
Formatting /system will delete the operating system.
Formatting /data will delete your apps/settings/wallpaper etc...

I had a similar boot animation loop when I went from stock GB to stock ICS. What seemed to fix it was updating my CWM from 5.0.2.6 (non-touch) to 5.5.0.4 (touch). (BTW, I couldn't find an advantage of stock ICS over stock GB. I have since put on CM9 which I'm liking).

Still got the boot loop.
When I did the "Wipe data/factory reset" I did get an error message during one of the processes"
"Error mounting sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format"
I had a boot loop problem when I first tried to flash JB. I went from GB to ICS with a custom rom a few months back, but I couldn't get any of the new JB roms to work. I ended up having to upgrade my CWM to the touch version in order to get JB flash to work. Also, a tip-- the boot animation will take a minute or two even when it is working. Don't assume it is still a problem if you see it more than once.

Check on the steps mentioned by Chinmay in the development section - they are pretty straight forward, else just google up!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844062
-First you need to root your cell by flashing cf-root for your firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331253
-then download the latest RemICS ROM and put in the roots of memory card
-put your phone in recovery mode by pressing the "volume down + HOME + power"
-once cell goes in recovery mode Do a factory reset/data wipe
-then select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose RemICS ROM
-after flashing this rom "wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (by going in advance)" from recovery
-then select reboot system now
I see you are a newbie, i'll help you.
You first need to flash XXKPE, from XXKPE you need to flash DDLF2, and when DDLF2 is flashed, you need to flash CF-ROOT for DDLF2.
Let the phone boot and go to CWM icon, press it and wait till it loads, press Reboot to CWM recovery (something like that) and when it is rebooted wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and install the Remics Rom and reboot and thats it.
If u want to flash ADDONS just reboot recovery and flash ADDONS no need to wipe anything.
Good luck.
where is external sd card folder in remics rom?

I've seen and tried to follow the steps in your post in the dev forums, but I lack the XXKPE step! Lol. I have RemICS 1.7 now on DXKP7, but I'm experiencing problems with battery drain, so I want to switch to DDLF2. I'll just outline the steps that you have already mentioned so I can be sure:
1. Flash XXKPE, download from here (post by kkrraazzyy).
2. Flash DDLF2 (don't know how to,but you can download from the same link in step 1)
3. Flash CF-ROOT ([please insert forum link here for download and instructions])
4. Let the phone boot
5. Reboot to recovery
6. Perform factory reset
7. Wipe cache and Dalvic cache
8. Install RemICS ROM
Sorry, noob here. Many thanks!

Problem after I tried to install CM10 A4

Hello !
I have this phone since yesterday and I have a problem.
I want to install X-Gamerz v2.6 Rom. I have done the KPE clean part, but after I flash CF Root LF2, I don't know what to do. I have reboot the phone in recovery with volume up+home+power button, I wipe data and I selected the .zip (CM10 A4) from SDCARD to flash. It starting to flash and after 3 seconds , it start to reboot. After another 3-4 seconds it says something which look like trying to flash something in recovery, but it stop very fast and it reboots again. After 3-4 seconds it says same thing, and reboots again and again . I tried to take out the sdcard, but after reboot , the recovery says something like "Waiting to mount the SDcard (20sec)" . After 20 sec it reboots again and says same thing.
I tried to follow the steps again, but I`ve got same thing. I tried to use the phone after I flashing CF Root LF2 and it work. But if I trying to flash again CM10 A4 zip or X-Gamerz zip, it enter in bootloop again.
What I doing wrong?

bro go to recovery>>flash original 2.3 ROM>>after succesful flashing>>again go to recovery>>follow the instructions given in the thread for flashing custom roms
im also new to android........but this reflashing method works well....
ok do it as follow.
remove your battery sd card and sim card. hold the power button for like 10 sec. then insert every thing back on it
Re partition your memory card and make sure u do it from inside CMW recovery.dont forget to backup stuff on it. make an ext-4 ext partition. min 1024mb.
after that go to mounts and format cache, data, system, sd-ext. dont format sdcard. leave everythhing unmounted
then go to advance and format dalvic cache and battery stats.
then factory reset/factory wipe on the main menu. and then flash the rom. wait for like 20 mins or so. it should work.
if it doesnt then unroot ur phone. install factory rom using RUU and then root it again.
Fastboot TWRP or PhilZ recovery into your phone. Explorer doesn't have the ability to flash recoveries as zips.
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2123503
PhilZ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265055
Also, never do a RUU. Unless you know what a RUU does to your device and how to handle soft bricks(clearly you don't).

And if you have an internatiinal version and your falshing a carrier branded rom it wont work it will brick and go to your boot loader and post the information s-on or off your cid all of it to get to the boot loader simply power down the phone hold power and vol down until it boots into the boot loded and simply tell us what it says it will help out a lot

Just flash the sense4 :good: in your HTC Explorer with minimum 1gb sd-ext,
Reboot the phone and when it stuck on htc logo just press and hold volume down key until the phone starts..
it will start within 4 to5 minutes in safe mode, then again restart phone and enjoy ......!!!!!
I still say we need to know his boot loader status because if he dosnt have s-off he has to flash the kernel (boot.img) sepreatly through adb and fast boot if he dosnt have s-off it wont work without the kernel

You can flash a Custom-Recovery using Odin.
You´ll find a link latest recoverys in my signature.
If Stock Recovery still boots you need to uncheck "Auto-Reboot" in Odin. When Odin finished flashing, wait 1 minute to be sure. Then directly boot into recovery from download-mode and enjoy the custom recovery.
This will increase your flashcounter!
Put your Rom & Gapps on your MicroSD Card
In CWM / CWM based recoverys:
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvic Cache
Wipe Data Factory Reset
format /system
fromat /data and /data/media (this will format your internal sd! be sure your rom placed on microSD card)
flash the rom
reboot (first boot can take ~30 minutes - if it still bootloops: something´s worng )
if everything working:
reboot recovery
flash gapps
reboot
Strange that reflashing the system didn't help. You could try it with an other recovery?
