Views saved password for WiFi - HTC Desire S

Hello,
i would like to read stored password for my wifi network.
According to article on internet, i have to open file data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. To read this file, i must have rooted phone and open in file explorer. Unfortunatelly im running on stock Desire S ROM, no root, no custom recovery, nothing. Phone like from box.
Is there any way to get access to mentioned file ?

Yes - root your phone.

Temp root is enough. No need to S-OFF or bootloader unlock, and these 2 also will wipe your phone, so you won't get the data anyway. But if you can run ZergRush and get temp root shell - it will be enough.

Thanks,
i did it

how??? I need help also..

SuperOneClickRoot.
Yeah i tried adb, super one click, and zroot. None of them worked, and for some reason everytime i try to start up root explorer, it crashes trying to get super user. I've tried all means of forcing super user to get onto the phone. No matter what it wont work. Mike thinks its Nand locked. Another thing i noticed is when I used super one click, i had two options at the top right hand corner that looked like names of my device. I can get my serial number with adb, and it shows it. Another darn problem is no drivers are out for this phone yet. Also have no idea of the LTE chip is interfering with this either. So come one come all dev and droid guru's help us out!
So basically I think this means we a need a custom recovery, flash image and stuff. Bah, that'll probably take like a month
K, also tried visionary rooting, which did some wierd ****. I rebooted and it seemed like i had root, but super user still didn't work. It fooled a couple programs into thinking i had root, but it would not let me "touch" the files on the phone. Even though it claimed I had r/w permission.

The Samsung Epic 4G drivers worked for me, also tried the rooting process used on the Epic whoever busybox says im rooted but that nand is locked, i downloaded Terminal emulator and it says im not rooted, also installing superuser not possible, I was able to install root explorer but not any good if doesnt let me delete the bloatware only read.
Yeah, busybox says the phone is rooted but nand locked.
superuser app was added to system/apps. however im not able to mount system/apps with R/W from root explorer. The rooting process seems to gain access to r/w the files but the apps cant.
seems 4G still have far distance from us...
Supposedly there's a work around for Nand locked, but the first one didn't work for me.
With the absolutely beautiful ADB exploit I use, titled rageagainstthecage (ratc), absolute ALL devices can be rooted. This is because it exploit is ADB which all devices use. There is an issue though. Some devices have a NAND lock which does not allow you to write to the /system mount. Because of this, you can’t copy su, sqlite or busybox to /system/bin. This creates some issues but there is a work around. For things that don’t need access to /system (like enabling non-market apps) I can use the ratc exploit to make those changes. If your device cannot use su in /system/bin then you can simple select a checkbox (as of v1.5) that says to use ratc.

This didn't work still for me. So the only other option was unrevoked, but when I went to the site, it listed only HTC. Kinda confused how using HTC roms is a work around for a samsung phone lol. Still need some master guru's help on this stuff.
I too have been trying and am unable to get nand unlocked, I would really love some other ideas. Anyone out there able to help?
I'm waiting 'till the $50 MIR on the 1st, then I'll jump in with both feet.
Some guy suggested to shell root > perm root > restart device. That doesn't work either. I also noticed something called "media scanner" that scans as the phone boots up, i wonder if that's preventing any modified files.
If anyone knows how NAND unlocking has worked for other phones (and im not just talking about what apps to run or what room to use) please contact me so that we can try a few things out and hopefully get a full root for everyone.
Supposedly Mr. Parker rooted:

I'm asking him through both post and through private message if he could elaborate. Apparently he had trouble with getting Win 7 x64 to work, but it worked with Win Xp. I'm still not sure what drivers he used, and he said he had it not in debug mode. I tried in non debug, and my phone wouldn't even register. So hopefully he'll expand on how he did it. If not, back to the drawing boards, at least till we get a real pro in here.
Got my hopes up that even though we dont have full root yet, I would be able to get rid of the bloatware.
The SuperOneClick is able to get read/write access and send commands to the phone so I opened Root Explorer on the phone and then rand the superoneclick. As soon as the program mounted the phone with Read/Write I started clicking on the Mount R/W button in root explorer until it showed the app as having read/write access to the system/app directory. I tried deleting the Iron Man app and it said it was deleted successfully.
but then I checked and the app was still there loading root explorer agian then showed that the file was still there and had not been deleted.
Wow you managed to get root explorer to work? Mine just tries to obtain root, and crashes everytime i start it up now. I've tried to unroot, and uninstall and reinstall it. I used Linda manager to view the files on the phone, but like you if i deleted they would return on boot. That's why I think metro or samsung has some kind of media scanner that scans at start up, and it somehow reinstalls files, or prevents root. Can't confirm this yet because super user fails ;/
I've been trying also to get root. Programs often will think i have root access. as far as adb is concerned i do have root access till i dont something that requires it. I've been able to install root manager and look through some files. Im under the impression metro or samsung did install something odd, though im not sure the media scanner is it. Also the phone does not require root in order to install other-market software.
What do you mean programs "think" you have root? You mean you have super user? And what "programs" are you referring to? You can install root manager without a root yes, but in order to put it into "r/w" mode and delete the files from the phone itself, such as bloatware, you need root and Super user access. Most people here I hope are aware that you don't need to root to install "MOST" apps. There "is" apps that require root, and you cannot run them without root access.
Such as:
Titanium backup
Set CPU
Why do I want to root is like everyone keeps saying, to delete all the metro apps, and have "full" manufacturer control over the phone. That's the whole point of rooting. So far no one has rooted this phone PERIOD, or at least shown proof they were even able to. So any info you find regarding rooting please post it here.
Alright, so I tried what Mr. Parker did, and no go. Whether I ran super one click on Win 7 x64 (which was all in admin) or win xp, it would not install super user. In fact I noticed a couple of the files copied from super one click were already on the phone, and weren't able to be overridden. Which may relate to nand lock.

[Q] Copy a file from Android to PC

UPDATE: I have reach the file through "adb pull", however, the adb shell still prevent me from reading that file. Strange, but my problem is solved. Thank you herbthehammer!
UPDATE: I have adb into NS, but it isn't a root shell. so still can't access that file.
Hi all, I have a problem here.
I have a stock 2.3.4 Nexus S. Now I need to copy a file from /data/data to my PC.
I can't even see this file unless I root my phone. But rooting means wipe all the data and then I'll lose that file forever.
So....How can I get this file?
Any suggestion?
Thank you for reviewing my question.
What file?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't know for sure, I'm just guessing. If you booted into the bootloader, couldn't you adb into the phone with root access? Then copy that way? I can't imagine what file would be sitting there that would be important enough to copy it. I think the sd card might get wiped in an unlock. Wasn't there a guide to root and recovery without unlock?
Rooting the phone doesn't wipe your data, unlocking the bootloader does.
Try adb commands as suggested above.

Thank you for your reply!
It's a profile generated by an app. It seems only that app and the Android system can gain access to that file.
The guide to root and recovery without unlock? You mean this post? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865
I think it only works for Android 2.3.3 and 2.3.2.
I'm interested in "adb into the phone with root access", just need some instructions.

[Q] Rooting, Unlocking and installing new ROM on a HTC Tattoo

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice about my attempts to put a new ROM onto my phone (HTC Tattoo currently running Android 1.6). I'm struggling to copy an image file to the sdcard. Basically, I can copy the file to there from my PC but adb can't see the contents of the /sdcard folder from within the shell. I also can't use adb push to copy anything to /sdcard. I just keep getting permission denied errors or file not found errors.
I've followed the procedure to root the phone and all *seems* to have worked OK. When I go into the shell I can su and run all the other commands I try work OK but I just can't see the content of, or copy to, the sdcard.
My confusion is several fold:
1. How can I be sure the rooting has happened successfully? I've read in other posts that people get a message on the phone when they run su in the shell. I don't - so does this mean that I'm not rooted??
2. Assuming I am rooted properly, why can't I see the /sdcard folder? I've tried all sorts of things including creating a gold card but that also fails because the sdcard is not visible to adb.
3. Finally, what about unlocking the phone? I thought creating a gold card would unlock it but that process fails as described above. Do I need to get the phone unlocked before the rooting will work properly?
I don't really want to pay the £20 to get the phone unlocked if its not going to make any difference. However, if it means that the rooting will work properly (assuming it hasn't done yet!) and then everything else will fall into place then I'm willing to give it a go.
Hope someone can help clear the waters for me,
Martin.
My phone is a HTC Tattoo currently on Android 1.6 and the phone is locked to Orange.
To ensure rooting was successful, you can download root checker from the market

[Q] Write to /system folder?

I am trying to place an app into the system/app/ folder of my Droid Maxx. I tried ES File Explorer and got "permission denied" each time, then read recommendations to buy Root Explorer which is good for situations like this as it can mount system as r/w so I tried that but it will not work either. I am rooted and on latest firmware update.
What would be preventing write permission for a root user? Is there any way around this? Push via ADB? Or would I run into the same problem via that method?
You will need to boot into your recovery to bypass write protection, make your changes, and then reboot normally.
Or follow the instructions to permanently remove the write protection.

THANK YOU!

You are awesome, thank you so much! I have been Googling all day and couldn't come up with much beyond Jcase's root method threads (which I already used but did me no good in overcoming this WP). I see this is a recent development, convenient!

Restore void.fstab / void.ftab.nand (no root/adb/flash)?

Straigth to bussines:
Specs:
Device: Cat B'5- compac
Rom: CAT_B15_EMEA_DS.1.041.0 4.1.2 JB
Was rooted by: iRoot/Kingo root
Was working perfectly, untill...
"avoid due poor connection" - wifi stoped to connect
-config didnt work
-delet dhcp folder didnt work
- reset factory/ wipes didn't work
-backups (still working phone at 100% with wifi conected trough static IP
My sd card was swaped internal - external by me trough void.fstab and void.fstab.nand
"was working perfectly, during many root-unroot process most with kingo root"
Tryed to upade my firmaware trough device, system updates, catphones told me to download google OTA from catphones website support, instaled, found a few updates 86mb, couldn't uptade, tought it was kus phone was already rooted, crashed always during recovery menu due bad signature, even being the official patch... Anyway phone still working fulkly, sim, sds...
But since the reset factory to try solve the wifi poor conection problem, my phone seems to have losted his root, I still have esfile explorer on some of my backups including kingo root, cwm mod, and uninstaler, I even able to navigate trough the system files... The only thing I dont have is "permisions"
Why do I need permisions? Well I'm trying to root it again using any app or program, it was rooting B15-compal, now the kingo root reads my device as "android device" when with the original google ota and as HC phone with the catphones googleota, I root and others still recognize my device as B15, emai and everything else is working just fine, soi I presume that the root is unable to complete on any root client kus I swaped my sdcards, and now I lost my root permisions so I can't edit the vold.* files, and return my b15 to its originals sdcard, prety sure that this would fix the dam thing and enable me to root or unroot it again...
Root checker tells that my device is not properly rooted...
The super user from kingo root is still remaining even after backups but is does not grant me any permision or ask for it, also it doesnt have an uninstal option, esfile explorer is set to navigate root files and it oes, it only stops if i uncheck the options on seting and than cant check it anymore...
Downloaded a few adb fiels, tryed to perform comands as adb root even instaled the unsecure adb on phone, tryed also the method when in the factory menu, also on the recovery menu, also on the system itself, cant mount, and when tring to push the originals volds from my d:x/x/x/x to dev/system (/system) /system.etc (/system/etc/), some times it acept the correct command but tells me that Permision denied...
In other situations tells something like "cannot do or perform action on build" or something like that...
Put my hands on the original room of my b15 from xda (rooted), but my cat b15 doesnt give support to clockwork so I never made a custom recovery, even aknoledge that it is not necessary if I'm trying to flash a non-custm rom, witch is the case, althoug remember that my sdcards are completly swaped, 1,58gb sdcard internal is now external and 8gb external card is now internal, so the recovery acess always the sdcard 0 that now is my 8gb external card swaped, I got all the options, backups and restore working normal, but somehow seems that I'll not be able to flash any zip from inside my recovery menu, it says stating sdcard or something and already shows the picture of and android robot lied down with a red square over its open chest...
I hope that as long as I can restore it I'm fine, but I am not a programer but an advance user, so I need the root, tankfully my system was backuped when I riped off almost everything that was garbage and also moved to sdcard most of data, but still only 500-200mb of internal storage, I need to be able to restore vold by any mean, that must enable te root and the root will fix everything...
Any ideia would be apreciated, I would realy love to update my system to android 6, it has the hardware enought, but seems that this model was discontinued, so depending on someone creating a custom rom for it...
I was wondring if not trough CMD - ADB, could be possible flash fom SP_flash, but only flash the image related with the void files? I'm from Brazil and I don't wanna mess with my sim cards only to reflash the same version of the rom that I already have, not without the possibility of being running a custom recovery, couldnt and now without root option I cannot even run the CMW on android properly...
Tried intal oither suoper users from GP, put all of them ask for the same thing twm something or intal but all of them speak about "binary needs update", guess that why my phone is not rooting as it was, although, if I accept the option the apps entenr in a loading that never ends and eventualy ask to be close... Tought backups were for this purpose but the dam thing could not even fix my wifi little issue...
Counting on your xp guys...
