pressing "Settings" in Chrome causes it to force, anyone else have this problem? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

pressing "Settings" in Chrome causes it to force, anyone else have this problem?
I have a new Tab 2 7.0.
I installed Chrome browser from the Play Store. When I click on "Settings"
in Chrome's drop-down menu, it forces close the browser. I have tried
uninstalling and re-installing it, but it was still behaving the same way.
When I was at the local Best Buy store, I tried it on their display Tab 2 7.0
and it did the same thing.
If anyone else is experiencing this problem, do you have any idea what
may be causing this?
Thanks!
P.S. This doesn't happen on my Galaxy Nexus phone or any other Android
device that I own.

Yup. Happens on my tab running CM9. I assumed it was related to the rom...I was not aware that this happens on stock as well.

guess there's some conflict between Chrome and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.
Like I said, the Chrome browser doesn't have this problem on my other
Android devices.

from my experience, this problem is only limited to the Tab 2 7.0
(on both 4.03 and the recent 4.04)
not really sure which one to blame... Google or Samsung?

just tried Chrome for the first time on my Tab2 7.0 and encountered this bug when I hit the setting menus in Chrome, it doesn't do anything for a few seconds and then the whole Chrome browser just closes by itself, returning to the home screen.
is there a workaround for this problem?

I was also having this problem a few weeks ago on cm9 but now that I'm on cm10 it works just fine

I have the same problem, it's probably a bug.
It worked when I installed CM10 thought.

Did this problem exist when the Tab 2 7.0 was on Android ICS 4.03?

I guess the problem is on Samsung's end?

it does not do that on my tab 2 10.1 but lags. Currently using dolphin for tablets. Does not lag and seems quite good

Yes, you're right. This setting/close problem doesn't happen on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that my friend has. I have been paying with it for the last half hour.
However, I also don't notice any lag when using the Chrome browser on it. In fact, it's just as fast/smooth as the stock browser and the Dolphin browser.

This trouble happens due to screen size. It is known issue and devs promise to include it in next Chrome update
See thread on Google Groups for details: Chrome bug Android ICS Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

Go to chrome://welcome and click the settings link.

Happened to me too, but it seems to be ok now.....running stock 4.0.3

Any ideas on what I should do to fix this issue?
UPDATE:
I cleared data on the app and it's still doing this. Let me try to uninstall and install Chrome again.
I reinstalled it and it was doing the same thing. I went into the settings and cleared website settings. That seamed to work. But like before, when I scroll down the facebook website, it scrolls back up to the top. It does the same thing on my LG G2x and my Nexus S. Uhg.. I understand it's beta but a lot of people don't run into this problem and/or never heard of this issue.

Default Browser ~ Bookmarks Freezes App?

Guys,
I picked up my UK 32GB N8010 two days back and whilst using the default Internet app I noticed whenever I click on the Bookmarks Tag to the right of the screen it takes me to the Bookmarks page where no bookmarks are shown but more annoyingly it then freezes the browser.
Is this a common issue with the default browser?
Yes, I will be using another browser but it would be good to hear if there is an issue.
So many views yet not one reply.... Surely there must be one owner here who can provide me with an answer... pretty please :fingers-crossed:
Never had this problem. I have 4 samsung accounts in bookmarks but no freeze. Try to clear data for the app.

Thanks but tried that.....
Try and play with your sync settings for your Google account, I'm guessing is trying to sync your bookmarks and can't.

Good call but believe me that was one of the first things I did.
It's clearly corruption of some kind. I was hoping to get to the bottom of this purely out of curiosity but it looks like I may just bite the bullet and factory reset, it's going to be easier in the end I'm beginning to think.
If it doesn't bothers you to much just live it like that until the jb update and do the reset just before updating.

The Jelly Bean update is another argument which I and many others as (you know) are having with Samsung.
I have the N8010 and JB is not out... period.
Try and get an answer from Samsung is like turning water into wine... I have never met so many politicians as can be found in Samsung, you simply can not get a definitive answer.. more like an answer within another question.
As such I can't see JB coming to the N8010 before Christmas (samfirmwares don't have anything yet and I don't want to go the N8000 route), so I'll reset and see how things go thanks.

Slow Recent Apps Tab

Hi all.
I'm running rooted 4.1.2 on 8013, with multiwidow app installed. I have very slow reaction from recent apps tab. It opens immediately but is not responding to 3-5 seconds. After few seconds it works fine. Have you seen this problem?
Thanks!

Maybe if were loud enough we might get some attention! It is sad that samsung pushes out an update that is supposed to multi task effienctly, which the multi windows does but the core service of multitasking is broken

Same setup on N8000. I've noticed considerable lag with scrolling the recent apps. I have to remove some apps to see the whole list. It will not scroll at first.

If you're rooted, u could play around with some different CPU settings. Otherwise, we gotta wait for Sammy to send a patch. This problem wasn't on the Mr.Darkman German 4.1.2 ROM though.

Been troubleshooting this for a while. Fixed by modding less apps in multiscreen mode...it's not like we need 100 apps in multiscreen mode anyway.

The Default Keyboard resets to Samsung Keyboard after reboot

Hello, I use Thumb Keyboard as my default keyboard but every time I turn off/on the tablet the Samsung Keyboard comes up as the default one. And yes, I set the Thumb Keyboard as the default in the settings. Anyone having this problem? Or a solution?
Thanks in advance...

Similar issue
I and my husband both have Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets running on Jellybean. Both have SwiftKey installed. Every time we turn the tablets on, we have to set SwiftKey as the default keyboard because it keeps changing it back to the Samsung keyboard. This is driving us both crazy. Our Galaxy Note II phones don't do it. Neither do our old Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablets or the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablets we returned to get the Note 10.1 devices. Does anyone know how to fix this? (I already uninstalled SwiftKey, rebooted, reinstalled SwiftKey, set it as default, and rebooted again to find that the issue continues.)
Thanks!
I had that issue before i rooted my device. Still on stock, but I installed Titanium backup and froze most of the bloat including the stock Samsung keyboard. Golden now.

4.2.2 and Netflix

I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with stock ROM. I got the 4.2.2 update via OTA a couple of weeks ago. I did a factory reset and since then, Netflix has been laggy and buffering like crazy. Anyone have any idea as to what to do? Is it me? Netflix?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry i haven't seen any issues with my 4.2.2 OTA update on the Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113 with NetFlix. Maybe something different but i would highly doubt much difference between the ROMs.

I am guessing there isn't any difference between 7.0 and 10.1. I have asked in other forums and no one seems to have an answer. There was one other person with a Tab 2 7.0 with issues with NetFlix and Hulu Plus. Seems to be hit and miss.

I was told that my slower internet connection has a lot to do with it. Since it is in HD all the time, and doesn't change with your connection, it causes it to stutter.

I did a factory reset and still had issues so I did a second factory reset and made sure that google didn't install any apps that were on my account (went into play store and stopped the automatic installs after I added my account). Seems to be working now, so I guess there was a badly behaving app that I had installed. I am not sure what it was, I have reinstalled most of what I had on there before, it is still working.
I am going to have to try that. Thanks a lot.

I did this yesterday after my Tab was running like complete crap. It worked. No stutter or anything after the second reset. I just kept some apps off that I didn't really need off of it. Is yours still running ok after these few days? Thanks for your input.
