I just purchased a tf101. I wanted to see what is the best method to root the tablet.

Yes that's correct.
Ok. So I don't have to down grade it to root it later? I read some of the tread that you have to be on a certain ice update not sure its true or not

What version of HC are you on? You don't need to upgrade to ICS and then downgrade back to HC to root. You can root HC and use OTA Rootkeeper to carry Root all the way through ti latest version of ICS.
3.2.1 . Build number 8.6.5.2.1 20111216
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
That looks like a slider model?
Since you are on the last HC incremental build, you should be able to use ViperMod. It is in the Development section. Download that to your PC and run it according to the OP. IIRC, you have to use Option 1 for the TF-Honeycomb build. Once you have root, then go to the market and get OTA Rootkeeper. Install that and make sure it saves Root. Then install a Root app like Titanium and make sure it works. Then use OTA Rkpr to Temp Unroot and take the OTAs. Then finally once you are up-to-date with the latest ICS build (.27 is the last number of it), go back into OTA Rkpr and restore root.
One thing that I have found it that the latest version of OTA Rootkeeper will not save a backup of SU in /system/xbin (this caused me a problem with an app yesterday). What you want to do is get a file explorer like Root Explorer and copy the su from /system/bin and paste it in /system/xbin and you should be good to go.
And one final thing, if you have a custom recovery like Rogue or TWRP, the OTA will not succeed, nor will it if you delete any apps from /system/app. For thatI used Titanium Backup Pro and just Forze the bloat. When a new build comes out, I just defrost and take it, the re-freeze.
What is the slider model? Sorry for noob question

That is why I asked you what build you are on. Razerclaw (.13) only works on earlier builds of HC, whereas ViperMod works on the later versions (.19+).
Could always try Razerclaw. At worst it will let you install it and then once you run it, it should throw an error. I used ViperMod when I got mine b/c I stupidly updated before I knew about Razerclaw (this was before ICS came out). ViperMod is really eay. Just install it on your PC, install the drivers and run it. Takes less than 5 mins to do.
I googled that build number you provided and it came up as a slider version, so that is why I asked.
Edit: OK I just looked around a bit more and your build number isn't 8.6.5.2.1 but rather 8.6.5.21. So you are on build .21. Then you need to use ViperMod and use the directions I post in the other post and this one and you shoudl be good to go.
I had the prime before but sold it do to wifi issued. I rooted the prime before using viper. Is it the same process
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Yes. Only for this one it is Option 1.
If you somehow lose Root when you get to the first ICS build (.11 I think it was), you can still use ViperMod but you'll have to use Option 3 then.
Good luck and let us know.

Could I down load the viper mod from transformer prime tread?

They are one in the same. If you used it before then you should be familiar. Exact same program.
What do I do if the computer doesn't recognize the tf.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Means you probably don't have the drivers installed or still have the ones from your Prime days.
I still have the prime driver on the laptop. Do I need to remove it

You can also see if super user app is there in your applications...
ofcourse you can check that by downloading root checker app from play store.

Like lumin says reflash. Use the second link in his signature.
However what rom are/were you on?If it is not a stock based rom dont use the reset feature within the phone use the one in recovery.

Perfect is a hard statement to make. Any of the ICS flavors are pretty stable there are bugs but even stock roms have bugs. I think barebones by antonx is a good one and VB by FB is too.
Is it add simple as installing stock GB was using heimdall? I've read good things about VB would you possibly post a link? Most I click on are dead/inoperable...

Run Gremlin Remover and go from there. You will have root and CWM to flash the ROM you want.

I'm not sure that I understand the cwm. Click work mod? I put that on my CPU and tether it with the market app? Sorry this is still very new to me...

Hello, I own a Motorola Xoom 2 (France Wifi only with 16 GB) which it is rooted as well. I'm afraid if I can't upgrade to ICS since I removed some stock apps (I know this was stupid). Is that true if I removed some stock apps I can't upgrade to ICS anymore?
If so, how can I restore all stock apps? I already did a hard reset and I thought it will be restored (another mistake I know).
I need ICS so badly, for some reason I can't update the Gmail app anymore on Honeycomb (not compatible) - but that's another problem.
There is still no ICS available.
Here are my tablet info:
System version: 0.268.4.MZ615.Retail.en.FR
Model number: Xoom 2
Android version: 3.2.2
Build number: 1.6.0_268.4-MZ615
Sent from my XOOM 2 using xda app-developers app
You will have to find the missing apps that will match your specific xoom by running logs and comparing hash tags... If you dont really know how that works or what to do then your pretty stuck... In the future never delete stock apps. Just use an app to freeze them.
Sent from my XOOM 2 using xda app-developers app
Holy ****. Can anyone (with the same device I guess) send me the apk files to reinstall the apps? Is there no image file to recovery the device? I know XOOM 2 is locked, it might not work then? The last option is to wait for an option to unlock the device...
Sent from my XOOM 2 using xda app-developers app
Post up the details of your xoom im not sure if its the build number or config version you need to match the apps to. When you get them put them back in system/app you will most likely need to reinstall them aswell. Once your done you should be able to update.
No need to worry about flashing although it would be easier if the bootloader was unlocked but beggars cant be choosers.

I have been reading about guys excepting the update and just rerooting after, so I tried it. Now when I 'rerooted with root 66 it brought me back to vralf 2. I checked for the update again and I get a msg saying com.samsung.syncmlservice has stopped? Now I know the number one rule is don't except updates, so don't preach just looking for help.. Also if I restore and except update then root will It keep the vlraf7 after rooting. Sorry for the mouthful in advance.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
When you installed root66, what you essentially did was install a rooted version of VRLF2 over VRLG7. Probably the safest thing to do would be Odin back to complete stock, accept the update, then use a root method that takes advantage of an exploit rather than one that installs a rooted version of a ROM. There are other ways to accomplish what you want, but I think that would be the safest.

Just grabbed this cheap from menards. Comes pre-rooted would love to to install a custom rom too.
This is the best I can find, not sure if it works yet as my PC is jacked ATM... It has cmr and bloat removed, pm me for other info... https://a170132.uranus.1blu.de//data/public/d9c188c9d2e5984b774443ddbe44e1b3.php?dl=true
So flash at your own risk obviously and you have to follow the same procedure as polaroid directs to when you first connect the tablet... The link will directly DL this .IMG file... I can't wait to flash it but can't ATM so when I do I'll post results here or if anyone else does please post results...
jr, I see you are in my neck of the woods. any updates on flashing with that rom? I have a couple of these that I am itching to crack the seal the on.
