unlock codes - General Topics

Can someone explain me how many private business on the web can sell unlock codes generate by a computer almost instantly simply from a website request ?
What do they have that devs from xda dont have ?

First of all, those unlock codes are NEVER instant. If they say they will deliver instantly, they are lying. A couple hours at the least is how long they'll send you a code.
Second, any legit SIM unlocking place has some sort of license from whatever carrier the phones they unlock is locked to. (((((((They rely the carriers for unlock codes.)))))))
I don't really trust the sites, they seem very fishy, but if you go to a local cell shop, they will have a poster saying something like "official tmobile seller," so they can unlock any tmobile phone. eBay sellers will also have something like this on their listing.

Unlocking help required from existing T-Mobile customers for HTC Sensation

Hi,
I bought a T-Mobile locked HTC Sensation from the ebay. I wanted to get it unlocked from T-Mobile, but they will provide me the unlocking code for the mobile, unless I have an activated line from them. I found the following from the T-Mobile website, and need somebody who is a T-Mobile USA customer to help me out with this. If you are willing to help, send me a PM. I will send you the IMIE number, which could be used to get the unlocking code from T-Mobile.
SIM Unlock Code
For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a wireless phone from T-Mobile, your phone has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
For customers with a T-Mobile Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile.
For customers with a T-Mobile Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
You may request the SIM Unlock Code for your phone, together with instructions for entering the code, by calling T-Mobile customer care at 1-800-937-8997.
i dont know if they do it but have you try calling htc? also i think there are sites that sell the unlock codes.
I tried for the past week to unlock via T-Mobile. Complete waste of my time. Too many wasted hours on the phone with them. And I WAS eligible!
I ended up buying mine for $25 from htcimeiunlock.com received it 10 minutes later and all was well.

Also, HTC will not give it either. I tried that too

I called them and were willing to give the unlock code if I had an active line with them. I have read other stories on forums where they have shared this code. The extract that have posted is also from their website !!

I work in tech care myself and would like to clear something up. T-Mobile does not have unlock codes, period. IF you are eligible (must have an account obviously), your IMEI and account info gets sent to an unlock team, and they get the code directly from the manufacturer. It's not like they have the code ready and said "Go F yourself" lol.
What reason do they have to unlock a phone that is so new they obviously did not recuperate their subsidy yet and for someone who hasn't paid a dime worth of fees.

Not everyone has purchases their phones on contract. Some people buy them outright... and prefer them sim unlocked for traveling with.
I am one of those few people who do just that. T-mobile told me that I need to wait 60 days between time of purchase and sim unlock... Or I could get it done by a third party, usually $25 to do. Google "sim unlock htc sensation"
@stoneyjonez : Ok.. got you. Can you tell me if they would give me the unlock code if a person with a T-Mobile account ( long standing ) and asked them for the unlock code ? Obviously that person wouldnt have bought the phone directly from them
cellunlocker . net I recommend currently only 19.99 for unlock code and takes up to 3 hours
In the past I tried to get a Motorola ROKR E8 unlocked through them. I was eligible and they said they would submit something to whoever they have to submit it to. I tried 3 times and never heard back from anyone. Phone was never unlocked :-(
I would just go online and pay for one, you get way better service that way. Its not like $25 is a big spend compared to the retail cost of the phone your unlocking.
Thanks for all your responses folks !! In my opinion its a bit dodgy to send money to anybody on the net. I have read too many stories where the money is gone but no unlock code. But I can take the recommendations given by others and buy from a reliable service..
Usually yes...if you give your imei to a T-mobile customer they will give them the unlock code for it.
Here is what happened when I sold my Vibrant after buying my new Sensation: I requested the unlock code from t-mo, they replied in 24 hours that the phone would not be unlocked due to it not being the current phone on the network for my account. (I then unlocked the Vibrant by rooting it and using an unlock method via adb)
So I am guessing that a t-mo customer would not be able to help out, since the phone would not be on the network.
From what I have read on the internet, if you tell them that you are travelling internationally and would like to use a local sim, they give you the unlock code. Also, see my first post where I have posted the rules specified on the T-Mob website for requesting a unlock code and the guidelines they use for qualification of a customer.
i use my sensation on the network and so i called in to request my unlock code..they did all the button pushing on their side and said i will get an email within 72 hours with the unlock stuff...will post when i get it or what i get.

my current phone in the network is the sensation and i asked for the code of the hd2 and they gave it to me. and i didnt have to lie. i told them the truth, that i bought the sensation and was going to give the hd2 to my girlfriend and because she is in another company i needed the code so she can use the phone.
i guess it just depends if you get a good rep.by the way i did it via the costumer care online chat. i saved the transcript here it is.
Thanks for your detailed response.. Anybody willing to give it a shot with for my phone with T-Mobile ?
sorry man. i dont want to risk into getting in trouble. i bet others here are thinking the same. so guess your only option is to pay for it online. do good search for a reliable site.

Wind wants $10 for unlock code

Well, WIND are beginning to scare me. Before, when I needed my BB unlocked, it was as easy as sending them an email. Now, I need the G2x unlock code, not only I have to call them, but also to pay $10.
WTH? I'm still not that poor, but there's a matter of principle here - I have the phone, I'm paying for it since the beginning, I feel like someone is getting money for nothing. Would you pay if you were in my case?

When I signed up I was told that after 3 months WIND would supply the unlock code at no cost. I didn't want to wait 3 months so I paid for an unlock code. Here's where you can get an unlock code for 99 cents US through an Ebay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlock-Code...s=63&clkid=2846801209278919181#ht_2270wt_1037
Make sure that you give the correct numbers because, if there's an error, the unlock code won't work and there's a limited number of attempts allowed before the phone is hard-locked so that it will never be able to be unlocked from WIND.
WIND's customer service totally sucks.
I believe it was one free unlock every three months and some people on howardforums says it's 6.

One free unlock every three months for only one customer. Typical for WIND.
Does it say that as a rule somewhere on some document somewhere?

Really? I wasn't aware of this rule.
Just called them last week as im in Florida for vacation. Told me 10 dollars and 20 days for the code.
Wtf wind?

I'm not a wind customer but I wouldn't pay them 10 dollars, especially for 20 day wait. 10 dollars isn't a lot but they are legally required to give you the unlock code

how to unlock sim network on at&t skyrocket ???

???
You'll need an unlock code, which you'll need to purchase. There are a bunch of reliable sites, I got mine from www.cellunlocker.net
there is no way we can do it for free ???
No one here has posted a mod or script to do it for free, and the question has come up many times. But I'm sure it's possible and maybe no one's really tried hard enough.
It's my understanding that if you live in the US and have AT&T you can get a free unlock code from them, but a lot of users have reported that they give you a hard time before they give it to you.
I'm just mentioning this because maybe it's the reason that there hasn't been a high demand here for a sim unlock mod.
Please lost back here if you do find a free way.

Is there a similar unlock method like the HTC One S where the secret is hidden in the root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491
I remember reading about a hex edit for the cappy. Maybe someone who is interested could look it up and see how different our nv_data is and see if the same principal applies. I might take the task on when I decide to reactivate it on a new carrier.
No free method.
You could try Kachmann ...check this post.

Tell them you are moving to Canada for 6 months, and want to use it with Rogers.
I just got off the chat with AT&T They said they can not unlock my phone because I am in contract. I told them I bought it out right, then they wanted proof of purchase. I yelled at them a little then they said I would have to call samsung to get the code. The reason for that is a updated policy.

I just got off the line with AT&T and they told me that codes are not available at all for the Skyrocket. Some line about Samsung being under agreement with AT&T and they haven't released the codes to AT&T yet. I smell the distinct aroma of bovine fecal matter on that one...
I think I will be calling them back soon and yelling at them a little bit.... It's amazing how often that seems to work when you're calling customer support and they're being belligerent....
EDIT: Well, got back on the line with them, and now they want my receipt. I bought the phone a year ago. If I have the receipt, there is no telling where it would be. A whole lot of run around.
I spent a week trying to unlock my skyrocket for free, gave up walked into a flea market, walked out 15 minutes later and $25 lighter.
Yes, you can unlock it for free through AT&T. I was able to do it. It is a pain, but it will work. You need to use the online help, ask for a supervisor, and ask for a "OKCQSubsidyUnlock" case to be opened.
See post #39 in this thread (actually, read the whole thread):

Yeah, I've been thinking about just buying a code. The only thing that still ties my phone to being an AT&T device is the network lock. How Kong did it take you to get the code?

I tried to get a code from AT&T and they would have given it to me but said it wasn't available for SR. I have heard that though that if you push hard enough they will give it to you. I don't know. I use Straight Talk now and I absolutely LOVE it. You can get an ATT sim card from them and you don't need to unlock. I have tried several pre-paid networks and they have been by far the best.
I agree, I've had straight talk for over a year using my Nokia SIM and this is my third android phone using the work around. No problems what so ever. Just plop in my e-71 SIM and put in the new apn and I'm good to go. I've never had to unlock any phone.

Cell phone unlocking illegal?

Yup, it's true.
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7
Sent from Spaceball One.
Before anyone panics, this is only if the phone is still under contract. It's not illegal if the person is out of contract and calls the phone company to ask for the unlock code. At least, that's the way I've understood this. Most people can still unlock their phones, it just makes things more complicated. The funny and sad part is that they're doing this to prevent "fraud" (people making contracts and bailing on them but keeping the phones and reselling them) but all this really does is throw us at the mercy of the carriers. T-mobile is a lot more chill about this but AT&T users will find it more complicated to unlock.
Anyways, it's best to be careful how one treads with this. On one hand, they can't tell how your phone was unlocked, most carriers can't even identify a competitor's phone on their network BUT it may be more risky now to buy unlock codes and I assume the same thing that happened to megaupload will happen to those that provide unlocking services.
It hardly changes anything when you really look at it. Carriers are still selling unlocked phones. Makers are still selling unlocked phones. Once subsidiaries go away, the unlocked phones will cost the same as the carrier ones.

Only thing this makes me worry about is how hard it will make it to get unlock codes for us who aren't within the US. And what happens when someone needs to travel out of the country and needs to use a different carrier service while there?
It's irrelevant for this device. You have your unlock code, it's already on the phone you just have to look it up.
its irrelevant for any device purchased before jan, xx 2013 (forget exact date) and if tmobile or whoever wants to freely give you the code they can. or just always buy factory unlocked phones! personally hate paying extra money through a carrier to get a cheap phone when i save far more in the long run buying elsewhere and having a cheaper plan

SCAM Alert - Sim Unlock (www.samsungsimunlock.com)

I hate nothing more than scammers and I just came across one for SIM unlocking. Avoid this site at all costs. www.samsungsimunlock.com
I purchased a Sim Unlock code for my phone. Shortly after receiving the code I followed the instructions provided and the code did not unlock my phone. I send the seller images of the error code even though I did not have to and requested a full refund. The seller avoided my emails and their online chat support ended when I asked for a refund. When I pressed them for a refund and the owner came up with some bogus reason like sim encryption and non factory ROM for why it doesn't work. The sim is new and the phone is on stock unmodified.
The Website clearly states "REFUND GUARANTEE
We cannot hide the fact that some phones cannot be unlocked due to technical hitches. In fact, in fewer than 1% cases, we are barred from unlocking specific phones. Should this be the case with your phone, we assure you of 100% refund without asking any questions."
It also states "100% Money back Guarantee In a situation where Unlock Code code cannot be calculated or found for your mobile device, or code is not working, full refund will be processed with no questions." This seller will not honor their own Terms and Conditions and refund policy. The code simply does not work and I want a refund very simple. I provided proof via pictures the code is not working.
I dug a little deeper into this, Not only is the seller Dishonest but also falsely advertising on their website. https://www.samsungsimunlock.com/samsung-phone-unlock-code-guarantee.html#warranty
This is how dishonest the seller is and the kind of SCAM this website is running, the seller provides a code and an app, after the code they provided failed, I tried different codes to see what would happen in the provided app, and what do you know, the results was the same regardless of what code you use in the app. The scam is that I can put in random unlock codes into this app where it says successful unlock in the app regardless of the code, but in actuality the phone is never unlocked because after a reboot the phone, not this app he created, is still asking for an unlock code. This whole thing is a scam as far as I can see. At first I gave the seller the benefit of doubt that maybe the code just didn't work, but no, it turns out you can put in any random code and his app will say the same thing regardless. How dishonest can you be? You make a fake app that any code put into it will show as successfully unlocked, but in reality its a scam, the app does nothing, the only code that matters is the one that the phone is asking for not some app he created that scams people into thinking their phone is unlocked when in reality it is not unlocked.
I have a paypal dispute open and wanted others on this forum to know scammers like this need to be exposed.
Guess i should have google Scam and this company first. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/samsungsimunlock.com
I did finally get a refund after filling a complaint with PayPal. What I ended up using that works is doctorsim.com
