CyanogenMod team Q&A video - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, I've just watched a Q&A session with the CyanogenMod team posted on YouTube. It's 45 mins long. There are some very interesting insights in some of the teams answers, especially at the end. With the "holy grail" question being. Which devices do you guys recommend.

Have fun. Anil
PS. I'm certain none of the CM team will ever see this. But it needs to be said. Thank you for giving a ****! Otherwise our smart phone's, would simply be appliances.

[VOTE] We need a dev team around ICS, no?

Hi
These last days, and this is a joy, a few new/or not developers are beginning to create roms on ICS.
Each rom has a difference with others, and i noticed some roms has qualities that are not found on others, but need the advantages of some others.
A few users asked it before, i offer today with this thread (i hope this is not a mistake, and that it will remains clean), to vote. The target is to ask to our developers to create a sort of developing team, around a "unic" rom.
Their competences put in common should be awsome, don't you think?
If you want to help me to make this thread known by developers, do not hesitate to link it in your signature, by this way, dev in the development section could see the result of the vote, that i hope to be YES
Thx for your responses, and please take this thread clean
Want a good idea !
Google is doing this. Wait for the official release...

It is called the CM team.... facepalm
FYI, Koush is an integral member of that team (not that they have been working on ICS as a team yet)
This is a terribly biased survey. Where's the option for "No, we'd like to see a diverse selection of Roms"
With all due respect, "Nope, i prefer lot of partially working roms" is a very suggestive option, that says you're critical of the current work, or just impatient.
Seriously dude, ics JUST CAME OUT. Teams will form, and work will get done in due time.
Patience, grasshopper.
Have you no humour?
If you say no, indeed it can be for other reasons..
In fact, the target is to reach an almost stable and fully functionnal BEFORE the official release...
after this, no need to have a team, on a official base, a dev can do something good alone.
As you like to call me grasshoper, and with all the due respect , i would like to call you embittered cod-fish.
Does it fit enough to you sir?

Community and Development

So I’ve been seeing posts and threads floating around asking about Dev Support on the SkyRocket. There are two thoughts floating around. The first being that the SkyRocket will not have Dev support like Nexus or any other phone and we may as well give up on Dev Support, the second being that there is Dev Support and people actively working on the device. I tend to agree with the second thought so I wanted to post this up for everyone to think about.
First off we have to remember that Devs are not here to serve us. Most all Devs, regardless of device, do this as a hobby and like to share with others their hard work. Secondly, everyone should contribute SOMETHING to the community. Whether it’s advice on how to do something with our device, or links to good articles, links to deals on accessories or whatever, or if you have experience in development or gfxs or if you like to spread the word on social media. Whatever you want to do, just be a contributor to the community and the forum, I think if we all contribute more and take less, Dev support will grow and so will our community.
I also think it's awesome when people get excited about a ROM or Theme, that excitement gives the Devs postive feedback that helps them get excited. Basically what I am saying is positive feedback is just as important as the complaints and problem feedback. Probably more important, no one wants to be burden with problems constantly. An encouraging word can go a LONG way!
It’s just as important to be PROACTIVE in looking for answers to any questions you may have before you ask in the forums. It’s cool to ask a question but you should always be sure it wasn’t already answered. And be patient until someone can answer your question don’t start demanding answers if your post has only been up for a few hours, give people time to read it and digest it. Again this is just good community etiquette.
I am always available to PM if anyone ever has a question for me, I got no problem trying to help people and I enjoy seeing people figure things out. I do wallpapers, icons, docks and themes for our phones and I am a recognized Theme Dev on RootzWiki. I’m going to do my best to make the SkyRocket forums one of the greatest forums on xda. I’m not saying that to be prideful or boastful because I think we ALL need to do our best to make these forums the best they can be. We can’t just expect Devs to take the load, we got to ALL be proactive if we want good product.
All this being said, I think we have a great community started here. Looking forward to the future with all of you!

Yes YES YES!!!!!!!
this is the Truth<<<<
thanks for this post Mortem
Very well put sir. Thank you
We also have to remember that some of these devs, myself included, have families.
Families should always come first and everyone should understand that, if someone doesn't understand that then that is seriously messed up.
This is one of the reasons I am taking a break from themes, family. I get so obsessed with the theme that my family suffers, my kids don't see me for days. It's just not right. And that is something I have to work on, and that is what I am trying to do. I need to learn to tell peeps here.....yo, I need to take a break I got family that needs me.....and if they understand cool, if not, tough luck.
Wallpapers are not so intensive, I can bang a wall out in no time.....but themes, that's a whole new beast and it is intensive.
At any rate, I am excited to see what our Devs can put out and excited to keep making wallpapers for all you guys that appreciate them.
Oh one more thing. You can never hit the THANKS button too many times. It really is a moral booster to see people appreciate your work. No one here is making money from donations, and hitting the Thanks button is free.
Amen brother.. thanks to all who help this forum rock... after the holidays i might start helping out theme wise. Icons etc.. but too busy til then . And its my busy season at work. Graphics...

Support your devs!!!! Speaking of which, I need to hit our current devs up with a donation each. All this time spent looking to lure new development onboard worries me that the current work is going on unappreciated

I would like to publicly offer my skills to any developer that is currently working on SkyRocket ROMs.
Although at the moment I cannot work on full on themes I can certainly help you in the area of gfxs if need be, depending on what you need of course.
Please let me know if I can assist in anyway, and if it's in my ability I will certainly help.
and feel free to add me to Google Plus if you are there, send me a message and I will add you to my SkyRocket circle.

[Q] Advice on how to follow CM9 Development

I asked this in another thread, but unfortunately wasn't able to get a response before it got buried.
I have had a tough time navigating the CM9 site, currently there is nothing as far as "Nightly" and Released builds for CM7 or CM9 released for the Sensation, even though I know there is an Alpha CM7 build out there.
I know both of these are far from release, but is anyone aware of threads, twitters, or websites alike where I can track the development of CM9?
Many thanks, XDA.
Edit: For clarification, this is barring the excellent "CM7 Bible" on XDA. Mostly looking for Outside sources and internal sources on CM9
twitter is a great resource for this, but the real news usually comes on google plus. add keyan mobli (our device's dev) to your circles, as well as steve kondik, who is the "boss" of cm. whatever you do, don't drive them crazy or ask for ETAs, it's quite irritating to them!

I'm actually flabbergasted that people do that. Asking for ETA's on free software. *Shakes head.*

recognizion by XDA as senior member/ Developer etc

About granting status of recognized Developer to someone and taking it back.
Hey what is this? XDA gives the status of recognized Developer to Dorimanx and took it back second time? Why? what is the error of XDA team please answer?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ima...da-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
you are 100% right
yes my dear i was just a few seconds ago was thinking this same thing you posted whyxda is so famous how can it consider a developer it can consider senior members on his site but not can mention developers xda was started as a facebook group it exceeded then the administrators thought to make money with it i like android authority like this bully site here the condition is like rich and poor where rich are developers and administrators and poors are new comers as you can think that the 1st day in a collage how senios do
just unfair!
dorimanx has on of the best rom/kernel for the htc hd2, we worked hard to get everything fully working just how we wanted and i can really say im desapointed with xda dorimanx schould be a recognized developer!
I tried many ROM's since I became a member in your community and I have to say that Dorimanx's ROM is the best by far when it comes to HTC HD2. He was helpful about everything and just check the thanks meter and the porpularity of his thread. Insane? I know. Nobody deserves more the title of recognized developer than him. Keep up the good work dorimanx.
... congratulations .... congratulations for your very vivid vision .... if Dorimanx does not deserve the title of developer, who else should? It 's a real shame ... or maybe just jealousy ... then do not complain if the best go away ...
Dorimanx deserves recognized Developer status. I repaired my old HD2 becouse of his work. Can we at least get explanation why he lost his status?
bye
Give him his status back! Dorimanx is the only developer whose roms I can trust - fast and working. Sometimes when he does soemthing wrong, he fixes it fast. And his fast support. In other threads I need to wait few days for reply. Here I get it in max 2 hours... If you think he doesn't deserve this status, then you should sit down and think for a while...
Well no idea what they did.
But I think all is said.
Dori did and does one of the best jobs to develop hd2 more.
Posts and thanks meter tell all.
He even came back after giving his HD2 away because we needed his help.
Who does this?
He is recognized as one of the best developer in our opinion.
If xda chiefs cannot see this, they are blind.
If they do not want him ....
Ok dorimanx should tell is where to go.
We will follow.
If you have any question about this please do it privately to any Senior Mod
In this case, there were issues in the Galaxy S 2 forum, pertaining to making unfounded and false allegations against another developer.
At XDA we ask people to be respectful to each other, particularly anyone with a developer title. In this case, going around making false (and very serious) allegations against other developers is NOT acceptable. For this reason it was revoked, although a user subject to this can appeal and it will be dealt with suitably.

Need a ROM: Feature list

Hi all, I'm ROM-shopping for a Note 3, model SM-N900. I've gone up and down this forum, but I cannot seem to find a suitable ROM. Most ROMs are probably suitable if I could get more information, but in that case I would be posting tens of almost-identical questions to tens of threads. Perhaps someone could spare us that mess, and I'll ask here concisely?
I need a ROM with these features:
* Android 4.x preferably. I really do not like Lollipop, but I'll bite that bullet if I have to
* S-Pen support. Surprisingly few of the Note 3 ROMs mention if they support the S-Pen or not. I mostly use the S-Pen in Anki and LectureNotes.
* HD Voice support
* Hebrew support, as in Hebrew menus and keyboard. This could probably be an add-on after install, but I mention it as I'll need it.
* Call recording. I use the Galaxy Call Recorder on the stock ROM, but I've seen custom ROMs, such as the Omega ROM [1], that people have trouble with call recording.
Thank you! As you can see from the Omega link, I've gone through hundreds of pages or posts looking for the perfect ROM. Now I turn to those who actually know a thing about them! Thanks!
By the way, I do donate to the FOSS software projects that I use, including for Android apps. Any ROM that I wind up settling on will likely see a modest donation. Not financial support, mind you, but a "thank you" for the hard work. I usually donate $10 - $20.

Look in Development section (while we're on it, questions go into Q&A, Development section is only for showing off your work) for the ROM that you might like. Instead of waiting for replies, why not go digging for the one that suits you, try first one out, then another one etc. Works much better than waiting for hours doing nothing.
On a side note, you have completely misunderstood the purpose of xda-developers and the ROMs here. Why? Look in my signature. 3rd link.

Thanks, Someguy. In fact I have gone digging quite a bit, as I show in the OP. I even provide a link that is on page 800+ in a thread, intended to show that I've put real effort into this. But I do understand you, lots of folks want help after putting in no effort at all. I assure you that I'm not one of them!
Can this thread be moved to the Q&A section?

Actually, I am trying to learn. I learn by doing, not by watching Youtube videos. And I'm trying to find the right ROM so that I can learn from it. I wish that I had a spare device to experiment on, in fact today I went to the stalls to find a used Android phone to experiment on but all the affordable devices were Android 2.x, not 4.x. But again, I thank you for making sure that I'm no riffraff and doing your best to keep the forums clean.
