Better charge with wall outlet than USB - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

When I charge my phone via wall charger, it charges much faster and I get better battery life. When I charge it via USB, the battery drains much faster over the day. Is that normal?

Not sure in this. I know that charging via wall is faster as it has direct power current and it closes the data line. Maybe you were having wake lock issues and it wasnt going to deep sleep properly? I charge a lot via USB since I'm on my PC a lot but had no large battery drain. On a regular idle I get about 1%/hr and that's with no underclocking.

If you charge it through usb try restarting after its full and after you unplugged it and let us know if it still drains faster.

Charged for 8 hours, battery only at 96%

I got a Nexus S the other day and so far impressed apart from one thing. I left the phone on charge overnight and in the morning it said it was only 96% charged. This was with it plugged into the mains charger for almost 8 hours with the phone on stand-by.
So I read on a thread somewhere you need to discharge the battery fully, then charge the phone with it turned off to correct this. So I did that last night and again this morning it says it's only 96% charged.
I'm also disappointed at how slowly it charges via the USB cable. Had it plugged in for a couple hours at work on my computer and it only went up by around 3%, this is shocking. I'm trying it again now on a different computer and so far it's only gone up 1% in an hour.
What is going on?
It's meant to stop at 95% - 96%
Leaving your battery at high voltage (100%) will cost the battery lifespan to shorten in the long run. So usually chargers do not charge it to 100% at all but slightly below it to lengthen battery life.
OK thanks for your quick response.
Regarding it being slow to charge connected to a computer, is that normal?
Are you leaving your screen on while charging? Because the screen eat alot of power, so that might be the case.

Nope, it turns off after 30 seconds. Wifi was also turned off.
Maybe try using SetCPU to alter your processor speed during charging and screen off to the lowest. It will significantly increase your charging speed.

I will give that a go. But really should this be something that I have to do, shouldn't the phone charge on it's default settings via USB at a decent rate?
It might be due to programs running at the background. I'm not sure. But my Nexus S charges fast enough though. Not as slow as you mention. Maybe try doing a charge after a reboot of your phone? If it charges faster after the reboot, it is most likely the background processes you had.

Yes it is. USB only supplies 500mA. Plugging into the wall is usually 700mA or 1A. Have you ever seen how long it takes to charge an iPad on USB? Its wall charger is 2A.

No because usb is only half power of regular wall charger, so it takes much longer to charge on usb. It's possible when using the phone during usb charging to pull more power than usb can provide, stopping the charge completely.

I also have this problems, but if don't use the computer usb to charge, it seems no problem.

Slow Charge rate

Is it me or is anyone else getting a slow recharge of their battery. I turned the phone off for an hour and the charge only went up a couple percent

What did you have it plugged into? If it was a computer or charger meant for a lower powered device (like a Bluetooth) that might explain it.
My G2x charges faster than any phone I can remember.
I went from ~20% to 100% in 1.5 hours yesterday, phone on but idle and with the charger it came with. I would try the software reset (settings>privacy>factory data reset) or hardware reset (power off, then hold home and volume down as you power on) and see if those help.

I had it plugged into a wall outlet with a strictly wall charger. I know the chargers that sub as a usb and charger, recharge the phone at a slower rate
Mine recharges from sub - 20% to 100% in about two hours on stock charger in a wall outlet.

That's about what I get, but that still feels long to me. I could charge my N1 in an 70 minutes.

Same results here.
If you can disconnect the data connection of the microUSB cable, do it. This will help to speed up the charging.
OK, so I went ahead and did a factory reset and I will let you know what I get.
I'm getting a slow charge rate to..when i put cm7 on it it wouldn't charge at all for some reason, then after that w/ other roms it would overheat and charge crazy slow, like 1 percent every 5 min, idk maybe i'm inpatience or don't remember how fast it's suppose to be, i need to use juiceplotter and see how fast or slow it charges....i might do a warranty replacement......idk yet......
I am getting a fast charge rate. The fastest I've ever got with a stock charger. Now when I charge it with a Logitech charger for my wireless mouse it is insanely fast. I'm talking going from 15% to 100% in a matter of 30 minutes. Anyone know if this is bad for the battery?

Slow to charge?

My HTC Thunderbolt would often charge above 700mAh. It seems on house charger my Charge will charge at about 270mAh and in the car maybe 370mAh. It seems it takes a while for the Charge to charge? Anybody else see this? Using Battery Monitor Widget.
There's already a thread about this.

I apologize. It was mentioned on another forum. Get mixed up in all my travels. Basically, make sure that you are using the charger that came with the phone. If charging speed is of the essense, switch the phone to 3g or even airplane mode as it charges. Leave the phone alone while it charges and leave the screen off. If all else fails, contact Verizon and get it swapped out.

USB/Computer and Wireless charging are at 475mA and the AC/Wall charger should give you 800mA
FYI - I just checked the chargers for the Charge (Am I stuttering?).
The tiny cube travel charger that comes with the phone is a 5.0 VDC / 1.0 A charger.
The Samsung multimedia dock / charger (that has the backup battery) comes with a 5.0 VDC / 0.7 A charger.
So, as crazy as it sounds, the larger dock/charger actually has the slower charging capabilities. This may be to prolong battery life, though.
While LiIon battery packs can be charged quickly, it stresses the battery pack to do so. A slower daily charge will allow for longer overall lifetime for the pack(s).

Battery takes longer to charge while the phone is off

Why does the battery take longer to charge while the phone is off?? the funny thing is i think it lasts longer when i charge while the phone is off, am i being paranoic?
I have noticed that it charges slower when turned off, but personally i see more battery life when i charge the phone when it is on.
Not in my case...It appears to be faster....
Charge via USB and it is slow.
Charge via wall outlet is extremely quick.
The phone trickle charges during the last 10 percent to ensure a real full charge. But it shouldn't matter if the phone is on or off.

[Q] Portable hotspot kills battery

OK the title probably leaves you thinking "no sh*t, Sherlock!" Hear me out... I plug the phone into the AC adapter and then plug it into a wall outlet. After that I switch on the portable hotspot.
I'm OK for hours but eventually the charge in the battery dies. Seeing as the phone has been plugged into the wall the entire time I am left wondering what foul, black magic could be responsible for this anomaly. The fact that the battery goes dead even though it's plugged into a wall outlet baffles me. Is this normal? Could it be that the battery is dying faster than it can charge?

Normal? It depends on how much you're using as far as bandwidth. If you're downloading an 8Gb file over some hours, that will eat your battery even if you're plugged in.

setcpu
Have you tried setcpu profiles to underclock when screen is off? Im able to get a couple hours of tethering unplugged.
Normal, unless the AC adapter isn't supplying enough Amps/Volts. I know using a Samsung adaptor from my Vibrant doesn't supply enough, and discharges if I use it while plugged in.

You're not getting enough amps into your phone. Get at least a 1 amp charger.

If your devices / ROM supports it Bluetooth Tethering uses less power then Wifi, but is is a little slower.
