I am due for an upgrade soon from at&t. Is it worth it to get the nexus s or wait to see when the galaxy nexus will come to at&t?

Nexus S is old at this point. If you want then wait for the Galaxy Nexus but if you don't want to wait then get a Galaxy S II.

Also money is the other issue I forgot to mention. So even though it might be old is it worth it for free with the contract upgrade?

At this point, I would be hesitant to lock in to 2 more years with a Nexus S. It's a good phone but even for free, I don't think I would want it after another year or so.
I just sold my Nexus S today. Got a Galaxy Nexus

How much for? I could maybe buy a new one for free then sell for money and wait.

I checked with my local stores. Some want to take it in for $100 SGD and $200.

buy a nexus s off contract if you really want one, I picked up mine for $100 off craigslist. Had the gs2 for a few weeks and didnt like it, just too big and the UI isnt bad but just prefer stock android. Still have my iphone 4 unlocked which Ill probably sell and wait for the next new toy.
Nexus s, think this is my third one now. Love the size and feel of the phone! ICS is very solid and a good over haul for android.
Buy a nexus straight out. They are cheap enough now. Keep it for a year then get the nexus 4 when it comes out.

Even better haggle the price / contract term down or get the galaxy s3. At least you can mock the s2 guys with it

So I have the s3 and I love it. I also have the opportunity to get the note 2 for $100 but would have to give up my s3 for it. I'm thinking of getting the note 2 until the s4 comes out, then selling the note 2 and buying the s4. Any thoughts from the great xda family?

If you're fine with the giant screen, go for it. The Note 2 is better in every other way. Also, it will have the higher value when selling it. Even though I love my S3 and couldn't deal with that giant screen, I say do it.

Do the swap then sell the note 2, buy the LG Nexus 4
If the note 2 works fine, I would trade for it, give it a try, and see if I like it. If you don't like it, you can definitely sell it for way more than your s3 and make a profit, then get another s3. Or just keep it til the s4 comes out, either way you'll get more money than your s3 for sure.

I'm not crazy about the note 2 just because its so big, but I like the idea of making some money on it and getting the s4 when its out.
What's particularly special about the nexus 4 and would it be better then the s4?

Well, I've wanted this phone since it came out.. I know the S4 is out there but not for Verizon.. I'm wondering if it's worth still picking up for an extra phone to play with and root? Amazon Wireless has it for $19.99 and it's only $40/month for my plan to add a line... Worth the additional line to be able to play around with it? I know it's another contract or whatever ...

I'd take S3 over DNA anytime, but that's just my 2 cents.

I've always wanted a Samsung phone since I had my Fascinate so long ago but dumped in favor of HTC....

I wouldnt add one to my line just to play with. Pick up one with a bad esn for 100 to 200. Its certainly one of the best smart phones overall.

The S4 isn't even worth the cost to upgrade from S3. Specs need to be a lot better. Wait until fall and grab a phone with better specs then the S4

S3 will still be a good phone for atleast another year or so, especially with the community it has. Roms keep getting better and better
Imo, I'd pay for it. The d2vzw has a huge developement community, so you'll have plenty to tinker with.
I always buy my phones from eBay and last year when the S3 came out the price of brand new S3 locked to AT&T was around $535-550. But this year the S4 prices have incredibly held up very well... well over $600. I can't remember the last time a branded Galaxy S line commanded such price.
Bought mine for 700$ shipped on release day off EBay...best purchase I've made this year!

On contract doesnt make a difference for me. Bought mine for $81
I think the GS4 is selling for a higher price off contract compared to what the GS3 costed when it was released. I don't remember the GS3 costing $650 at launch. I bought my GS3 for $475 brand new off ebay a month after launch.

I got mine S4(AT&T) two days ago from Craigslist for $550, sealed in a box, couldn't be happier

Wow you lucky guy!
I paid exactly 0.00$ for my S4. Technically I was given 8$ to buy it.
I traded in my wife's iPhone 4S. Best buy gave me 220$ for it and the S4 on contract was 212$. So I gave my iPhone 5 to my wife, and walked out of Best Buy with a brand new Galaxy S4 and an 8$ gift card lol
Couldn't be happier and I LOOOOVE the S4!

Did about the same thing, ditched my HTC One X at Best Buy and paid $87 for the S4 and a case on launch day. Thing has been a beast ever since.

That screams of a future IMEI lock. I'm happy to sell on CL but I've been burned lately with working phones that suddenly come up IMEI locked 2 months later for issues AT&T or T-Mobile can't seem to tell me about.
if only the price held up as well as the iPhone, Just sold my iPhone 5 for 475, not as much as I thought, but then again bought my 5 in sep

wow... that's way better than AT&T's trade in program. Was is a 32/64 GB?

No, I traded in a 16GB, but Best Buy's trade in program has always been great. Newer phones tend to be under what you could potentially get selling it (they wanted to give me 350$ for my factory unlocked and jailbroken i5 when I could sell it for 500$ on eBay) but other phones were definitely higher, like the 4S.
I always try Best Buy first because they usually give the most.

They can still lock it. It's a nationwide database that all the carriers use.
Doesn't matter, if it's locked on AT&T or T-Mo it's locked on any prepaid carrier using the same network.
Just a FYI.

Will Walmart be selling the nexus 5? How would that even work? ( i still have the old plan *classic plan*) when i did my last upgrade this year (one time payment) $168.99 for the galaxy S4 (T-mobile) and i continued with the old plan now my mom is due for an upgrade I'm gonna give her my s4 and use the upgrade for the Nexus 5... But has anyone heard anything about Walmart carrying the Nexus 5?
Thanks in advance.. =]

My guess is that they will. I'd say look for something around Christmas or maybe black Friday.

Just saw Nexus 5 boxes in a Black Friday commercial but they didn't specifically mention it.
Just called my local Walmart and they said they don't do T-Mobile contract anymore... Just pre-paid... ={ but they said they have no idea about the nexus 5... Has anyone else called??

I actually work at Walmart. No, we won't be carrying the Nexus 5. If we do, it would only be through Sprint.
