Droid2 Root Stumped? - Droid 2 Global General

I have a Moto Droid2 Global - Android 2.3.4 - build 4.5.1_57_D2GA-59...
I have rooted phones before (Galaxy phones which were WAY EASIER) but this freakin thing... Using any one click method doesnt work... seems to not be able to get exploits to work or something... Any updated ways to make this happen?

Okay. System version is 4.5.629.A956... I'm a pretty strict Samsung guy myself... so this Moto stuff is newer to me. The link for the SBF is corrupt in that other post... Ill play wiht it, see what I can do. Thanks.

did you install d2 bootstrap then update
cwm with rom manager use dx 2nd int
hold on I'll add links
The correct way is installing Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery and using that to hijack. This will give you CWM 2.0.0.x. Once done, install the Droid X (2nd init) CWM via ROM Manager, and you'll end up with a fully functional CWM 5.0.0.x.

[Q] Bricked phone, help please

Hello xda.
I bought a D2G from eBay that came with MIUI, I wanted a stock android so I downloaded a supposedly stock ROM and flashed it with CWM included in MIUI.
It bricked my phone but I can still get to stock recovery, I've read a bit but I'm still confused of how to unbrick it. I watched a Youtube vid that was a guide to do that, however some people say that one of the files is corrupted.
I already have RSD Lite and the drivers, what do I have to do next, please help me.
Thank you very much.
EDIT: Is very probable that the ROM I flashed wasn't the correct one because it was about 100Mb in size.
EDIT2: If it helps in any way, if I turn on the phone it shows the MIUI logo and then goes blank (well grey).
try wiping data in stock recovery
edit: what was the file name and how did you flash it, clockwork or bootloader mode
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Thank you for your response I'll try that now, by the way, can I charge battery in stock recovery? because I don't know how much do I have left.
EDIT: The file is in the other computer, I'm downloading right now another called DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL.sbf.zip, I entered MIUI recovery then with that I entered CWM and flashed it. Another question, how do I wipe the data? thanks again
not likely, but if white charging light, next to usb port comes on you should be good

Well, I didn't bother making a proper logo so I took the one I use at hisouten.koumakan.jp, another wiki.
Thank you, I now have stock android installed. When I saw battery life after flashing... 90%.
are you on verizon?
if so your phone will, try to update, to 4.5.629, which is fine if you are not interested in rooting, but you can not go back
if you do not want to update you need to root with Pete's root tools, and rename motoblurupdater
if you want to know more just ask, or check out the link in my sig

It doesn't matter if you're on VZW or not, stock firmware checks for updates and tries to install them via WiFi/mobile data regardless of your carrier choice.
The files in question to be renamed are
/system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk
/system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex
I had wondered if the wiki was your work, G.Y.
Thanks for compiling that, it's helped me many times.

Anyone tried/using clockworkmod touch recovery?

I highly doubt it will work for our phone. Considering we had to have nitroglycerine33 whip us up a custom CWM that would work on our phone, I doubt that touch cwm would work...

I was able too take parts from our bootstrap and I got the razr touch recovery to where it was able to make backups. But I'm not going to restore it at work. I can't go 6 hours without my phone if it craps out.
If I did get it working I'm not going to release it til I get permission from everyone involved in the two recoveries that I used to do it.

[Q] Help installing custom or stock rom.

So here's the story so far.
I have unlocked the boot loader. I have CMW installed. I can't seem to install a custom rom, and everytime I try, it hangs up on the htc screen forever.
Phone shows s-on. Is that a problem? Current rom doesn't appear to be working properly. Super user is installed but wifi doesn't work.
Any clues?
Thanks!
Since you are S-ON you need to extract the boot.img from the ROM zip and "fastboot flash boot.img" from your computer.
Interesting. And this applies to any custom rom? What I'm getting to is, should I do this instead of the rom provided instructions?

Hey man, I'm new to htc...I've seen so many different ways to root this thing but I'm somewhat lost...which method worked for you ? Ya think you could point me in the right direction....so far I've seen bubby one click gui, that hack kit...I'm on 2.3.3, I'm not sure what kind of RUU it has all I do know is I'm feeling really ignorant about now

Currently there are 2 methods: unlocking the bootloader and AAHK. Both are explained in the guide in the Ace Think Tank thread in DHD General forums.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824379.
EDIT 2: note that the Desire HD and the Inspire 4G are essentially the same phone. You will see more development (ICS and JB) on the DHD forums. So you can use the ROMs and unlock methods from there. Just be careful with radios.

Regarding your card, can you hook it up (through an adapted, if necessary) to your PC? If so, use a format tool for it (such as SDFormatter) and give it a proper format and resize (again, if necessary).
Fat32 that ***** up!
I just wanted to make sure I fully understood every instruction b4 I ended up bricking this device....I should be good to go...I'm going to format my card tomorrow with my gf's computer than use that hack kit thing and get this thing rooted....that ace think tank thread is packed full of information though..I'm quite surprised though because over in LG forums, tutorials aren't that advanced....I still don't have a full grasp on s off and bootloaders and all of that but by the looks of that hack kit it seems to take care of all that...all I wanted for now was to get it rooted so I can flash an ICS rom and get all of this bloatware removed...one thing I haven't seen though is a list of items I can safely delete....
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I was looking through your profile and realized I hadn't responded to this.
I remove:
Apollo.apk
CMFileManager.apk
CMFileManagerThemes.apk
CMUpdater.apk
CMWallpapers.apk
Email2.apk
Exchange2.apk
Galaxy4.apk
GenieWidget.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
NoiseField.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
Talkback.apk
Term.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
I have also removed Calendar.apk and Gmail2.apk to replace them with ones from the Play Store (so I can back up their settings in TiBu) but I haven't lately. The list is up to you; that's just what I do. And if you flash a lot of ROMs you could make a flashable zip to customize it exactly how you want it more easily every time; for example, in addition to deleting stuff, mine also add a build.prop DPI change and some other small things I do every time I flash a new ROM.
Quick question...
I can't seem to get this phone to show S-OFF. Is it possible? I mean I do have SU installed and such, obviously CWM so what am I missing here?
You need to use AAHK. Check the guide in my signature.
Interesting. Is it best, perhaps, if I begin from scratch? I mean, can I go back to stock first?

Exploit on Jelly Bean - Root with locked Bootloader

I tried...
Well, I tried this on my VZW Razr Maxx HD. There was one issue for me, this phone's File Manager app does not allow you to mount a remote location like a Samba share. Instead it only has backup assistant as an option with all the local storage. Unless I just missed that option.
With that said, I did try some third party File Managers (Astro and ESstrongs). You need to do it with the Motorola File Manager though. It looks like the Motorola File Manager will mount the share as /storage/rfs0/ or something similar. The other file managers do not do this. When it comes to the "sudo /tmp/share/adb shell /storage/rfs0/pwn" part of the instructions no rfs0 exists on my phone to work that way. I couldn't find it under a different folder name either.
Lenny
I did that on my Atrix HD, worked awesome, I'm allready rooted on jb with my HD so I can't try it on that.

but when it comes to this point of the instructions you already worked with the samba folder. you downloaded motoshare.gz, extracted it, gave permissions etc.. so this folder must have exist.
maybe it's

sudo /tmp/share/adb kill-server
what's happening if you skip this part of the instructions?

Hey bgumble,
You're right, I did download to the samba share, but that was all on the host PC running Ubuntu, not on my phone. This folder existed on my host as /tmp/share. I successfully downloaded motoshare.gz there and extracted the files, changed permissions, etc.
I'm not sure what would happen if I skipped those parts of the instructions, I don't recall an error when I ran it. I believe the way this exploit works is when File Manager mounts the samba share on your phone it does so as /storage/rfs0/. That's why you can then run /storage/rfs0/pwn as if it were being executed locally on your phone. My error at this point was that /storage/rfs0/pwn could not be found.
Since the VZW version of the File Manager doesn't allow you to mount network shares and third party apps don't mount shares as /storage/rfs0 (I don't know where they mount them), I couldn't get this to work.
There is a chance I'm not understanding how this works, but I'm pretty sure this is it.
Thanks,
Lenny

Yeah, good heads up on the File Manager. I did download it and try to install it, but I get an error saying it could not be installed, I think because it tries to install as a system app.
On a side note, after unsuccessfully trying to install it, my real File Manager disappeared. I'm not heart broken, but its kinda weird.
Thanks,
Lenny
Didn't get an answer from the dev yet.
The ones without the stock filemanager app could try with a different file manager. Once the samba "share" folder is mounted on the device, you could type "adb shell mount" on the host machine or just "mount" on the device in an terminal emulator. This will give you a list with all mounted file systems, The "mount list" should output the mount path of the "share" folder on the host machine.
Now replace the path "/storage/rfs0/" with the path you could find in the "mount list". For example "sudo /tmp/share/adb shell [your-mount-path]/pwn".
Please note that this exploit will never work with a third party filemanager if the hack is based on a stock filemanager vulnerability...

If you guys have XT926, You can just downgrade to Ice Cream Sandwhich, use the working root, then upgrade back to JB with VooDoo's OTA root keeper.
Is there a generally accepted way to do that downgrade (JB to ICS on a Verizon XT926)? Something that's relatively simple for the noob-ish? I have a Razr Maxx running ICS and a Razr Maxx HD running JB (both rooted) and I'd like to try running ICS on the Maxx HD for a bit.

Same situation for me
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
I talked with dev (@djrbliss) and the exploit absolutely does depend on the Motorola stock FileManager app that can mount network shares as rfs0. So droid RAZR HD/MAXX HD users are out of luck.
There is no writable executable place to manually mount a network share ala `mount -t smbfs -o blah blah` so you can't manually use this exploit either on RAZR HD.
Finally, the FileManager application is a system app so you **can't** install this app. In fact trying to will make your original droid RAZR HD File app disappear along with access to vzw cloud storage.
I really appreciate Dan's work on this - it's nothing short of amazing - but the sad truth for RAZR HD users is that there is no way to use this exploit. It's a catch22 - you need root to use it.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
Sounds like the dev doesn't realize there is a difference between xt926 and xt925
Those of us with xt925 are not on verizon, and DO have the stock filemanager app on our phone.
Now if the RazrHD filemanager app is somehow different than the Atrix's, that's a different story.
And that's the rub - @djrbliss says the exploit absolutely does depend on the stock FileManager app.
Also - 3rd party apps do not (can not) mount remote storage using libc.mount() because that requires root which no app has. Again catch-22 - can't use matrix HD exploit on RAZR HD. Sorry.

Sorry I don't see what the "rub" is?
RAZR HD (xt925) has stock FileManager app.
Is someone saying that the RAZR HD FileManager app is different than the one on Atrix? If so, why would the dev say this should work on RAZR HD? There's some confusion here...

OTA update for Maxx

Woke up this morning to the new ota downloading. As of this time it is on ask me later.
I know enough to know that it could not be installed with root so I started reading the xda forums for the best method. I originally rooted with moto root, then later updated to pwnmymoto. I have also installed safestrap 3.63a and used xposed framework to allow unlock with NFC. My question is if I uninstall all of these (they all have the uninstall feature) can I install the ota? Sorry if I missed this some where else, but I havent seen anyone with a similar set up comment. Any help is greatly appreciated. I forgot to mention I have read about fxz with houseofmoto but have never used adb so am a little nervous to do this if not necessary.
Thanks,

You will need to go back to stock. Otherwise you'll bootloop. You can remove the update zip from cache and place on your SD so you don't accidentally take the update. Try houseofmoto for returning to stock while saving data! Sry I don't have the link.

House of moto is a utility for fxz back to stock. You won't need to set up adb for that. Just download and set the proper files and run the utility. RockMyMoto by jcase is the exploit you will need to reroot once you take the upgrade. You WILL need adb for that as of now.
