Instructions: Please READ-RELAX-READ-FOLLOW
First of all, check CAREFULLY in which case you are:
Case 1:
If you come from a US T-Mobile Defy with the 3.6.90 update
If you have already flashed a non-downgrabable sbf (2.51 or 3.4.2).
Case 2: If you are not in case 1.
Due to Motorola Defy having a locked bootloader at the time of doing this rom, the flashing process is quite complex, so READ AND FOLLOW it VERY CAREFULLY, or you will end with a non booting phone. If it is the case, you should restart again the whole procedure from the beginning.
I recommend you print the whole procedure, and check every step as you do them.
PLEASE READ EVERY SINGLE STEP BEFORE STARTING IT AND FOLLOW THE ORDER CAREFULLY.
If you don't respect the steps and order, the result can be unpredictable.
Only run the steps that apply for your case!
This Rom is a Nandroid backup of system to be restored over the phone:
Unzip the rom file, and place the 2011-02-03.11.17_Adlxmod.F4D.2.00-WhiteBar folder into the SD:/goapkrev/backup/ folder. If SD:/goapkrev/backup/ doesn't exist you have to create it. It should look as follow:
SD:/goapkrev/backup/2011-02-03.11.17_Adlxmod.F4D.2.00-WhiteBar/system.img
SD:/goapkrev/backup/2011-02-03.11.17_Adlxmod.F4D.2.00-WhiteBar/nandroid.md5

Press Menu -> Skip Motoblur setup

Go to Settings, Applications, Development -> Enable USB Debugging Mode

Once you have correctly done the process, you may want to flash some option patches. Just go into Recovery mode and flash the zip you need from the optional patches.
Phew what a detailed protocol. Thank you so much will try it tomorroow

Thanks for this! So your ROM is downgradable if we follow these instructions? I don't want to lose downgradability.
Update0: You really need to add that if you don't remove the battery FAST enough and your phone DOES go into Tenfar recovery, it will brick your phone. Because that is where I'm at right now.
I'm trying to start over, but I can't get anywhere except Stock recovery (which doesn't respond to any commands on the OK Button - wierd) and the USB Bootloader, which doesn't help because if I go through the whole process without doing the factory reset, I can't get to Tenfar's recovery boot after flashing the devtree only sbf - I just get a blank screen.
So I'm pretty much effed.
Update1: no wait, the Stock recovery is working, it's just going ... really ... really .. slow. Hope my battery doesn't run out before I get the factory reset done.
Update2: Ok yeah, still not working. Tried three times now. Can't get to Tenfar Custom Recovery after flashing the devtree sbf no matter what I do. If I leave it plugged in after flashing devtree and allow RSD lite to reboot the phone, I get "please manually power up this phone" and a blank screen. If I reboot manually, I just get the motorola logo forever.
Update3: I am going to try a different ROM entirely and maybe I can get a working phone before work tomorrow...
Update4: Yeah, your instructions were backwards. I should have noticed that right away, but didn't notice until I tried Higgsy's 2.2.1 Froyo build. You need to flash the boot+devtree sbf AFTER you restore the Adlxmod F4D v2.00 folder image - i.e. follow these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937319
If you do it in the right order, this ROM works fine and is actually pretty cool (first boot takes a long time of course so be patient.)
THX Adlxmud for you custom rom! your description is great...
But 1 question, the optional patch (Dark-Bar) is work on other ROMS for example Rom 3.4.2 UK?
Tomorrow maybe try it
Thank you!
will try it rite now, coming from chinese sbf, never flashed 2.51. will post feedback tomorrow.

If you haven't flashed any UNdowngrabable rom, you should be able to flash this one. After flashing this rom using my procedure, you will NOT loose downgradability. In other words, yes, my rom is downgradable.

If you land in Tenfar recovery you haven't followed my instructions that say:
- Press "Recovery Boot". /!\ Phone should now reboot. While the phone powers off and on again, maintain the "Volume UP" button pressed!!
- Phone should now boot into USB Bootloader Init mode again.
If your phone doesn't boot into USB Bootloader Init mode, and you start to see the (M) Moto logo, pull the battery, unplug the USB cable. wait 10 sec. Plug the battery again, maintain the "Volume UP" button pressed and press Power. maintain the "Volume UP" button pressed until it you get to USB Bootloader Init mode.

That means that, anyway you land in Tenfar recovery, just reboot your phone into USB Bootloader Init mode again to flash the boot-devtree.sbf.
If you get a non-booting device at some step, try to just reboot your phone into USB Bootloader Init mode again to flash the boot-devtree.sbf at this step.

Well, Stock Recovery is a bit tricky to use... In my particular case I use the vol up/down to select menu entry, and I tap on [ok] (I usually have to tap several time to have the [ok] actually do something. Once it starts, yes, the Wipe is very slow! Like 1-2 minutes.

That is weird... Anyway I'll double check later, but it's what I have written on my notes, and I've followed my notes a lot of times, so I guess this order worked for me at least.

I guess there is nothing wrong in flashing the boot-devtree sbf at the end, it should work the same, so I have updated the instruccions here. Maybe it reduce the problems. Anyone here with the same issue? If so, from what rom do you come from?
Also, one more thing: if you come from another UK or US based froyo rom, you should be able to skip the whole procedure and just restore the nandroid backup.

ill give that ago running uk 2.2
Nice rom, will feedback you...
can confirm that if you already running 2.2 all you need to do is run the nadroid back up and all should be good btw dude nice rom
First of all thanks for this rom! I am expecting my Defy over the mail by monday or tuesday and up till now this rom is the most appealing.
I have one question. How do you prevent motoblur installation? Is that simply a matter of skipping at first boot? Do you have plans to make a deblurred version of your rom?
coming from a 2.2 Chinese rom, it stuck on motoblur animation and didnt boot, i followed each letter from the instructions , no luck on this yet.
that happened to me pulling the battery sorted it and it booted fine after that
i think native boot+devtree would be better, so here it is.

If you have Boot loop in Motoblur Animation, please try this:
- Boot your Defy into Stock Recovery (Power + Volume Down button)
- Tap in the bottom right corner of the screen to get into the menu
- Select Wipe Data, then press OK
- Reboot phone into USB Bootloader Init mode (Power + Volume Up button)
- Flash the boot+devtree sbf provided by me using latest RSD Lite (4.9) & latest Motorola drivers (4.8)
Then reboot. How does it go?

Thanks, yeah I was coming from Eclair 2.34, so I should be downgradable. Can confirm that the camera works fine on this ROM.
Sadly, I have the dreaded "Unable to open connection to server" problem with Android 2.2 so no more exchange email.
Update: Ran a quadrant benchmark on my phone with this ROM, got 1299, so pretty good! I haven't removed any apps, and also added SetVsel and DroidWall. Overclocking in SetVsel was set to: 1000mhz/52 600mhz/36 300mhz/26. About the same speed as I had going in Eclair.
Missing WIpe!
There was a missing step (to Wipe all) in my instructions, sorry. It's fixed on the first post.
- In Recovery, Select Backup & Restore -> Restore > Select the rom Adlxmod F4D v2.00 folder
- Get back to the Recovery Menu, and WIPE ALL once more.
Click to collapse
Hmmm, I'm not sure having both email apps installed is a good idea. Once you get past setup in either app (took about 20 tries but finally it connected to the server and completed setup), either app will both force-close as soon as they are launched. Were you actually set up an exchange account during testing of this rom?
Will give this a try, Is market working?
also can i flash the data.img from my backup to restore my apps and data?

-Fixed busybox installation
-Fixed permissions to match the UXKG3 release build

BETA 3 Changelog:
ROM:
-Galaxy S II lockscreen
-Fixed Adobe Flash
-Changed hsxpa to 2 (for real this time)
-Updated BusyBox to version 1.18.4 (fixes some things in root apps)

-Change overscroll from bounce to glow (Samsung blue)
-Disable all overscroll effects
-Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent

Tip:
-There is still some lockscreen lag, but it's only visual. If you quickly drag your finger across the screen it will unlock just as quickly as on Froyo builds despite the background taking a second to start moving. Luckily the Galaxy S II lockscreen makes it much easier to unlock directly to missed calls and messages.
v2.0.0 Stable Changelog:
Kernel:
-Rainbows fixed by LinuxBozo. CWM, video playback, and the camera viewfinder are all rainbow free and working perfectly now!
-Battery charge current property fixed by Entropy512. This should fix apps like Current Widget.
ROM:
-Set wifi scan interval to 120 seconds (hopefully this will improve battery life a bit when wifi is enabled but not connected)
v2.0.1 Changelog:
Kernel:
-Disabled Carrier IQ. It's a service that runs in the background and collects and sends anonymous network statistics to carriers. It was eating cpu cycles and nothing about this was good.
ROM:
-Removed Carrier IQ
-New AOSP style notification pulldown theme
v2.0.4 Changelog:
-Another attempt to fix HSPA+ (modified CSC, stock Froyo APNs, and UCKE3 modem)
v2.0.5 Changelog:
-Brand new modem and ril for you guys to test (KH2 from the Galaxy S 4G)
v2.1.0 Changelog:
LinuxBozo's Hellraiser Beta 6 Kernel:
-Enabled TinyRCU (Entropy512)
-Added Simple IO Scheduler (drowningchild)
-Conservative governor tweaked and set as default (LinuxBozo, netarchy)
-Added interactive governor with tweaks (LinuxBozo, netarchy)
-Added smartass governor (LinuxBozo)
-Added Voodoo Sound v10 (partially working) (Entropy512, bedwa)
-Various fixes

-Updated Maps, YouTube, and Swype
-Removed Samsung Apps
-Dalvik VM heap size changed from 64M to 48M so less RAM is wasted
-Reverted to UXKG3 ril and UCKE3 modem
-New network tweaks which may improve network performance in some areas
-Fixed APNs for Rogers users and included more APNs for those on other carriers

-Brought back ROM Manager support
v2.2.0 Changelog:
-Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the phone to have no service if rebooted while charging
-Updated to the UCKI3 rils and modem to fix network speed issues
-Updated to the UCKI3 camera libs to fix video recording framerate
-Updated to the latest Market (3.1.5) and modified it to fix the insufficient space error
-Updated Google Maps
v2.2.1 Changelog:
-Fixed GPS (Locks, especially the first one, may be a bit slow though. Test it out a bit and report your findings.)
-Updated to the UCKI4 rils and modem (Let me know if your speeds are still as good as they were with v2.2.0/UCKI3)
v2.2.2 Changelog:
-Reverted to KG3 rils and GPS files so that GPS will work well for everyone (Hopefully this doesn't mess up our improved network speeds. I suspect it may for some, but we'll see. If it does, try the KI3 modem as well.)
v2.2.3 Changelog:
-Reverted to the KI3 modem (Seems to work better than KI4 for most people. If you already flashed this modem on top of v2.2.2 there's no reason to flash this update.)
READ CAREFULLY - NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
1) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Tips and answers to common questions:
1) Animations are disabled by default. Enable them by going to Settings > Display > Animation and selecting "All Animations". If you don't do this, you won't see the CRT screen off animation!
2) If your GPS isn't locking, try this: Go to the phone app and dial *#*#3214789650#*#*. The Angry GPS configuration app will open. Clear GPS data and back out. It may help to reboot after doing that as well.
3) If the power widget isn't working and shows no icons, simply toggling something like GPS in the notification pulldown will fix it. This doesn't seem to be something I caused, but rather a bug in the Rogers shipping ROM. I believe a lot of Galaxy S Gingerbread builds have this problem as well, so it's a Samsung trademark.
ROM Manager Installation Instructions:
1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip if you're on Froyo or CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip if you're on Gingerbread and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
7) If you're on Froyo, you must now install a file explorer like Root Explorer from the Market and use it to delete the file /system/bin/recovery. You will need to hit the "Mount R/W" button in Root Explorer before it will let you delete it. I can't stress this enough... you MUST MUST MUST delete that file before continuing or else you will get boot loops!
8) Now install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
9) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
10) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
11) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select full.
12) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download the ROM. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
13) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you MUST check "Wipe Data and Cache" unless you're coming from Infused V2 BETA 1.
14) Press OK. Your phone will reboot and automatically install the ROM. Just sit back and relax.
15) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
CWM Installation Instructions:
7) Download update-infused-v2.X.X-full.zip and place it on your internal SD card.
8) Power off your phone.
9) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into RED CWM.
10) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select update-infused-v2.X.X-full.zip.
11) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset".
12) Select "reboot system now".
13) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
How to manually install an update to Infused:
1) Make sure the vX.X.X portion of the update file name (update-infused-vX.X.X-vY.Y.Y-update.zip) matches the version of Infused you're currently running.
2) Download update-infused-vX.X.X-vY.Y.Y-update.zip and place it on your internal SD card.
3) Power off your phone.
4) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into red CWM.
5) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select update-infused-vX.X.X-vY.Y.Y-update.zip.
6) Select "reboot system now".
Installing addons:
1) Install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
2) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
3) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
4) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select "Addons only".
5) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download them. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
6) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you can uncheck "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and press OK.
7) Your phone will reboot and automatically install the addons. Just sit back and relax.
Known issues:
-No HDMI support. It was not present in the Rogers base ROM.

-Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)
-Change overscroll from bounce to glow (Samsung blue)
-Disable all overscroll effects
-Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent
-Revert to the default Infused configuration
Note about addons: The only overscroll addon that is compatible with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent" is "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)", and for that to work you need to flash "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)" first. "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (Samsung blue)" and "Disable all overscroll effects" will not work with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent".

Kernel?
Does using the Infuse GB kernel 1.0 make a difference with what your testing for gtg.
is the infuse kernel you included any better/makes no difference or what?
upgrading to 2.0.4 later tonight. to see if it will fix the HSPA issue.

Kernel shouldn't make a difference for network speed testing. At least not in this case.
Just an FYI... v2.0.4 may be no better than v2.0.1. In fact, if it doesn't fix HSPA+, it could actually be worse if battery life degrades as well. There have been no real improvements since v2.0.1... just attempts to fix HSPA+. If you're happy with your network speeds on v2.0.1, I recommend staying there for now.

I am in oklahoma city and never got above 2Mbps ever on my infused with (2. 02). I have a grandfathered unlimited plan from my iPhone days. I read a thread on xda that said they might not have transitioned my plan correctly and gave the codes that I should have when i call. So I talked to About 5 different reps all of them told me I had to lose unlimited to get 4g speeds. Finally one of them switched my plan for me and when I got off the phone I rebooted the phone and got 5.55Mbps. I am curious what speeds you are seeing and if you came from an. IPhone or not.

Hi GTG.
First of all, I love your work.
I flashed the 2.4 ROM tonight. I am experiencing a problem. I cannot make calls with the ROM, I can with the other ROMs so the phone is fine. The call icon in the top bar remains there after I try to end the call. Hope this helps, if you need anything from me to help solve this let me know.
Thanks
Carl.

Same applies for v2.0.2 and v2.0.3. If you're happy with your network speeds, no reason to install v2.0.4 just yet. v2.0.4 is for those who haven't had great network speeds or working HSPA+ in previous versions. And it's a test version so I'm not guaranteeing it fixes HSPA+.
For future reference, please try to ask questions like this in the Q&A thread linked to in the first post.

This is gweedo767's touch recovery ported to the skyrocket/hercules. Because many people have been asking me what the difference between this one and the version that koush put out here is the difference:
This one is open source.
This one has swipe gestures (up,down, left, right)
This one has different UI settings
This one has soft keys on the bottom of the screen
This one has 2 different options of font
Here is a youtube video I made of how it works: ------> VIDEO
4 ways to use recovery:
volume rockers
soft keys on bottom of screen
capacitive buttons
swipe gestures (up/down = scroll && left = back && right = select)
HOW TO INSTALL:
CWMR5504_INSTALL-4.3.zip (NEW ICS BACKGROUND): ---------> BLUE-FONT
CWMR5504_INSTALL-4.3.zip (NEW ICS BACKGROUND): ---------> ROBOTO-FONT
- Just flash in CWM

TERMINAL INSTALL:

recovery.img: (NEW ICS BACKGROUND) ----------------> ROBOTO-FONT
- download to sdcard
- open terminal emulator (or adb) type:
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 bs=4096

(This will not alter ANY files on your phone. It is just a test drive basically. You flash it through ClockworkMod that you have already installed and it runs over it showing you how it would be if you did install it. Once you reboot you will still have the same recovery that you had.)

Sweet. Flashing now

so i created a recovery.tar.md5 to flash through odin. I flashed it and it automatically booted back into android. Once i rebooted into recovery everything worked in there but when i tried to reboot it would only reboot back into recovery. i did a battery pull and waited a few minutes but it only booted into clockworkmod. I had to flash the original clockworkmod 5.5.0.2 i had before to be able to boot back into android. anyone have any ideas on why it gets stuck in a clockworkmod boot loop?
this is only for the recovery.tar.md5...not for the cwmrt5504.zip. just wanted to clarify that. the .zip file is completely safe and will not alter any files on your device when you flash it.
How's the cwm working
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
the zip file seems to work fine. restored a red sonja backup, then flashed another to try it out more. all went well.
so to everyone who has tried it out:
how do you feel about the sensitivity on the swipe gestures? up/down sensitivity? left/right sensitivity? does the sensitivity need to be lowered or raised or stay the same?
thanks
so will this be an actual new recovery or an overlay of type for our current cwm
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
im going to create a recovery.tar.md5 that is flashable via Odin and will be a whole new recovery. but the one i have now gets stuck in a boot loop that only boots into recovery.
Problem with Scrolling...
For me obviously noticed the colours as well noticed that when I pushed Volume increase menu scrolled down and when I pushed Volume Decrease menu scrolled up. Anyone else get that issue... overall what is the difference between this and the other clockworkmod recovery... basically what is the benefit to flashing this over flashing the one that comes with ROM Manager....
Weird when I restarted my phone and went back into recovery it went back to CWM 5.0.2.7 is that what it's supposed to do?
i hadnt checked the volume rocker mappings yet. ill fix that. i just havent used anything but the swipe gestures.
the difference between this and the original one is that you do not need to touch any buttons. you swipe your finger up and down to scroll and swipe left to go back and swipe right to select. and there are the soft buttons on the bottom of the screen. basically there are 4 ways to move around and select and go back.
1.) volume rockers
2.) swipe gestures
3.) soft keys
4.) capacitive buttons
and i explained in the OP that it was a fakeflash. which means that it does not install it on your phone. thats the reason why you booted back into your original clockworkmod. i have an installable version but it is not ready yet. i do not want to release it yet because it could mess up your device.
My Bad... I missed the fake flash... that's why you should read the entire comment I guess LOL... Anyways awesome thanks for the quick reply.
no problem. ive done that before. usually its when i get really excited about a new rom and i download it without reading the whole post and then something doesnt work with it and i get frustrated and realize they have a patch in the OP or something. haha
anyways, once i get the boot loop problem fixed i will make a recovery.tar.md5 that you can just flash in Odin and itll be an entirely new recovery installed
i updated the file on my box.com account with the correct volume rocker key mappings.
So this is the same CWM just a touch screen version... aren't we using a version of CWM that is made for the regular galaxy s2? Isn't that why there are tons of problems with FC's because this CWM does not delete everything it is suppose to and we end up having to install the stock recovery to do a factory reset?
well this is the latest clockworkmod 5.5.0.4. the only other CWM i can find is 5.0.2.7. so its updated. not sure what the changelog is on that though. And this isnt a version that was made for the gs2. it was originally made for the galaxy nexus. Im pretty sure its the same source code as the code from the cm9 repo. Im not 100% sure on that though. ill have to ask gweedo.
and ive been using this recovery for about a week and have backed up/restored/flashed new roms/reset to factory/erase cache/dalvik all a few times and havent had any issues with it not deleting everything.
I have to ask, have you figured out what's up with the colors? They could hurt your eyes if you looked at it too long. xD
Also note, which is something that's also been an issue with the current CWM, Fix Permissions doesn't do a thing. Press it and it instantly tells you it's done. Should at least take a minute to get everything done. Just wanted to mention that this problem still exists. Definitely not at all any kind of dealbreakef, but I just don't get why any ports have worked for our devices.

Hello everybody!
Yesterday, I collected my previous recoveries, updated them and built a new one (TWRP) too. I made CWM-flashable and Odin-flashable packages too.
CWM v4.0.0.2: (Thanks to The-Droidster for the recovery! )
- This is the first ever custom recovery for the Galaxy R.
- It has all the nice CWM features.
- You can restore ICS with this.
- It has no known bugs. Everybody used it as a starting point.
- What I changed:
- Removed the /lib/modules directory. --> 0,1MB size decrease.
- Enabled button backlight.
- Key layout: Scrolling: Volume up+down, Selecting: Home key, Going Back: Power+Back button. (Menu key doesn't do anything.)
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?71ynk9btw7euocr
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?iczq8xed26ohakw
CWM v5.5.0.4:
- Built from the latest CM9 sources.
- It has all the nice CWM features.
- It can restore v4 backups (you can restore ICS with this too).
- Very stable!
- It has no known bugs yet (Lot of users have been using it and no bugs have been reported).
- Toggle feature is disabled! (I find it really annoying and it doesn't make real sense for a recovery to lock the screen.)
- Key layout: Scrolling: Volume up+down, Selecting: Home key, Going Back: Power+Back button. (Menu key doesn't do anything.)
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?98c1smq7nk4485d
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?c7qbjaqwgpnbr9w
CWM v6.0.3.2:
- Built from the latest CM10.1 sources.
- It has all the nice CWM features.
- It can restore v4 backups (you can restore ICS with this too).
- Key layout: Scrolling: Volume up+down, Selecting: Home key, Going Back: Power+Back button. (Menu key doesn't do anything.)
- Known issues: ADB Sideload
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download/7xyevjf32fixf3a/CWMv6.0.3.2_CWM.zip
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download/oksv1o2hu63gohi/CWMv6.0.3.2_ODIN.tar
CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch:
- Built using the online builder at http://builder.clockworkmod.com
- It has all the nice CWM features.
- It can restore v4 backups (you can restore ICS with this too).
- Key layout: Scrolling up: Volume up or home button, Scrolling down: Volume down or menu button, Selecting: Power button, Going back: Back button. (This is the default layout and cannot be changed.)
- The touch responsiveness is a little lazy. You have to wait some seconds before it starts working. (The online builder says it needs an ICS kernel for the touch version. We use the CM10 kernel (based on stock ICS one), but it's still lazy.)
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jz24eugrrr988f2
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?6vju9tlf9byeufe
TWRP v2.5.0.0: (Thanks to 'cooleagle' for the tip! )
- Built from the latest TWRP and CM10.1 sources.
- It has a lot of nice features, more than CWM does.
(For example:
- on-screen keyboard -> custom backup names
- built-in file manager
- built-in terminal)
- It has a fully touch-driven and very intuitive interface.
- The touch responsiveness is a little lazy. You have to wait some seconds before it starts working. (The online builder says it needs an ICS kernel for the touch version. We use the CM10.1 kernel (based on stock ICS one), but it's still lazy.)
Note: Backups of TWRP are said not to be compatible with those of CWM. For everything to work well, I recommend that you create a TWRP backup too before modding.

PhilZ v5.06.6: (Thanks to Tha TechnoCrat for the tip! )
- Built from the latest PhilZ and CM10.1 sources.
- It has a lot of nice features, more than CWM does. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
- Based on CWMv6.0.3.2
- Known issues: ADB Sideload

If you want to install a custom recovery for the first time, you always have to start with an Odin-flashable package first. Flashing a recovery with Odin doesn't increase the download counter!
Tutorial (Flashing with Odin):
Please refer to the following thread (This is very detailed and good in my opinion): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406664
Choose a downloaded TAR file (ODIN-flashable) for PDA option.
Tutorial (Flashing with CWM):
Note: This only works if you have already flashed CWM with Odin.
1: Reboot into recovery mode. Do this with a custom rom or by powering on your phone and pushing Volume UP+Home button simultaneously while the Samsung boot logo appears (you have to be fast).
2: Select 'Install zip from sdcard' menu.
3: Select 'Choose zip from sdcard' menu (or if you want to flash something from your internal sdcard, select 'Choose zip from internal sdcard' menu.) Note: On CWM v4.0.0.2, there isn't any separate menu for internal sdcard. It shows internal sdcard by default. External sdcard is mounted under the external_sd folder on the internal sdcard.
4: Navigate to the file you want and choose it.
5: Choose 'yes'.
6: Wait for it to finish and you're done.
Changelog:

Update the OP!
@Adam...Now that this thread has been stickied it is best that you also add the attached CWM recovery v4.0.0.2 to the OP. This will make it a one stop thread for all recoveries for Galaxy R. Also please include a short tut about flashing these recoveries through recovery and ODIN separately!(With screenies if possible!)
One more thing, the attached v4 CWM recovery is ODIN flashable. See if u can make a CWM flashable version out of it as you did for other recoveries!
Thnx:good:

Along with the stock recoveries of ICS & GB CWM flashable zips kindly try to add a Unroot CWM zip (ICS / GB separate if needed) so that everyone can just flash that zip & get unrooted if in any circumstances they can't flash the stock ROM via a USB if the port is damaged. This will serve as a way for people who have damaged their USB port to get unrooted, flash stock recovery & claim warranty for the damaged USB port.
pankaj88 has already made one but it doesn't remove the busybox so if possible try to make a zip which removes all the traces of the a rooted stock ROM.
You could start a new thread for it if you think it's needed as it is pretty useful & important.
Cheers !
Adam Now we are having ICS, so is it possible to rectify the touch Recovery bug (little lazy for few seconds) please.....
oops sorry i haven't read the OP fully, Ok now i understood because of kernel size you are not able to do it.....

It'd be really great! I think a GB and an ICS one is enough. Thanks in advance!

This is great since I need to repack the stock firmware with CWM now just to get rid of the emmc bug.

You cannot flash through stock recovery right now. Flash a one with Odin first, it'll not increase the binary counter.

EMBRYO

This is daily driver ROM, based of OEM (Samsung) release for ATT - Build UCMC1. Please if you
are flashing for kicks, don't bother with comments if you don't have anything to enhance the dev thread.
THEME
Click to collapse
The ROM is themed holo orange with touch of contrast. The base color is #ff8800, use the above to set the colors of the text options in ROMCustomizer themeing options.
ROM ARCHITECTURE
Click to collapse
The ROM is designed and architected to cater to widest possible audience. To that extent, the OEM distribution is restructured leveraging the new /preload partition to add additional apps.
* All NON core apps are moved to /data partition. Hence can be uninstalled with any standard launcher.
* SecEmail, SecExchange and SecBrowser are in the /data partition too, which mean you can replace them with AOSP ones.
* Although some apps are in /data partition, if you do uninstall them, some feature will not work.
* ROMCustomizer app is included and accessible from Settings or Launcher app drawer, will give you all the additional customizations.
DIFFERENCES FROM EMBRYO 6

Here are the differences from EMBRYO6
* The OEM base is UCMC1 (the official Samsung release)
* A lot of core APK's are themed, unlike just the status bar in EMBRYO-6.
* I have not incorporated PDroid for now. May port it back later.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS EXACTLY AND IN THAT ORDER, do not try to be cute and invent your own process, nothing good is come out of that. Also, the only recovery I have tested is CWM 6 from sk8, no other recovery has been tested, the update script depends on the recovery providing reliable execution of the commands. If you bootloop or FC after installation, it is not a good sign. I cannot help you debug that, the update script leaves a log file in /data/log, check for errors there.
Step 1) Make a Nandroid backup and better yet also TiBu if you need to restore apps.
Step 2) Did you do Step 1)???? Do it now, already.
Step 3) Make sure you downloaded the Full Wipe ROM and any add-ons or latest Stock theme or Embryo base theme updates (orange) or bloat. if you want the stock theme.
Step 4) Please make sure to check the md5sum's.
Step 5) Boot into recovery.
Step 6) Format /system (usually in mounts and storage menu option)
Step 7) Format /data
Step 8) wipe data and cache partition
Step 9) Did you do Step 6, 7, and 8? If not, STOP, do NOT proceed.
Step 10) Turn off Signature Verification. Select the Full Wipe ROM zip and flash.
Step 11) [OPTIONAL] If you want the Stock Theme, flash it now. Or, if there is a theme update package (orange), flash it now. NOTE: Flash only one of the themes.
Step 13) Good, now reboot and LET IT WAIT till everything is installed. Do NOT touch and mess around with any keys. Your installation went fine, if you see the bootanimation and then the touchkey lights up (dalvik cache being built) and then installing applications screen shows up. If the touchkey's don't light up you are hosed, bad flash, reattempt!! Same thing if the installing applications do not show up. If the above sequence of events do not happen, then your flash is borked, please look in the internal sdcard for the recovery log embryo-7-recovery.log, pastebin it.
Step 14) IMPORTANT Follow Any POST Installation stuff below.

Please make sure you either pastebin or zip it up and provide the link. Do NOT copy the log in the post.
Logs provide valuable information if you cannot replicate the issue. I am going to provide some tips on how to capture the logs.
Capture Logs If Rebooted and Stuck On Reboot Screen (adb skills required)
1) Some how get into recovery, using the key-combo or (adb reboot recovery).
2) In recovery -> mounts and storage -> mount "data"
3) Now, pull the whole logs directory:
Code:
/data/log
4) That's it.
Capture Logs Using CatLog
The above app features a recording feature. So you can capture the logs, during an issue (if you are able to reproduce it).
i) The app allows you to save and e-mail.
Thank you Mohan !

AWESOME! I'd be interested to know the kernel features, if they are a close match to Cymbaline RD04 3.5
update from 6.11?
Hi Mohan,
WOW
Will there be an update from 6.11?
Meanwhile I'm backing up and downloading...
Thanks for your hard work man,
H
Followed OP to a tee like always. So far 2 flashes in , MD5 is fine on phone. Both flashes make it to the EMBRYO boot animation, but no captive keys light up.
I have to say I love the new boot animation. I let the phone sit for a good 15 minutes on the boot animation, and no changes. Back to 6.11 till more input comes back on EMBRYO 7.
Let me know if you guys have any issues regarding this. Thank you.
Another issue, restoring my nandroid 6.11, gives me an error "error while restoring /system! -- my default backup format has always been set to .tar (default)
However when restoring nandorids you get an error restoring system.... basically at this point I will have to do a fresh install of 6.11 again
All backups made with Sk8s CWMRTouch 6.0.2.7 14.4.6

Good glad I am not the only one. What sucks is I can not restore my nandroid backup of 6.11 I just made ... so I am boned here, have to do a complete fresh install if that is the case.
Do you have any issues restoring your nandroids ?
If using TWRP maybe try clockwork? He DID say in the OP right? Just a thought.downloading now but it'll take like two hours...

I used clockwork to install EMBRYO 7, we are having the same issue.
Something is different on these builds with these nandroids... You can't restore them for some reason, errors out on restoring /system.
Doing a complete re-install of 6.11 now so I can use my phone... sort of makes nandroids useless though if you can not restore them. It's strange because I never had these issues restoring till after Embryo 6.5 or so, always errors on system

Yes I am using Embryo 7 fine. restored all my apps from play store just finished.. initially you will be stuck on Cymbaline for 15 min if so just pull battery and restart.. than its working fine.
My dl just finished and I got a popup from AVG that said "Virus found Android/Mobile Tracker"... Never seen that before... Hoping Mohan can let us know if there's something wrong with the file. Have any of the people that loaded the rom gotten any logs to Mohan so he can diagnose?

Used preload.zip, doesn't help with the nandroid restore. (restoring 6.11) I would love to restore my phone via nandroid, but none of them are working. It must be how the newer embryos are built.
Other nandroids that I have used in the past successfully .... 6.1 / 5.4 will not restore either... what is the issue here I wonder?
